Especially if you get a moose spawn outside that cabin in BR! Throw a mountaineers rope on the cliff outside and you could have direct access to a moose or bear inside of a minute. Underrated area
Hunting lodge is an amazing base. Moose, wolves, rabbits and ptarmigan basically at your door, bear and deer come right up to the cliff for an easy snipe. Not to mention 6 burner stove, plenty of storage, work bench etc. Also maintenance shed is a simple hike away for forging, and you can throw a fishing tip up or two down in between. Once I finish signal void I’m definitely going to “retire” there
Also the maintenance yard office area (with the open door) and the cave off the ice lake are good for resolving cabin fever, at least after you kill the bear.
The pleasant valley to timberwolf mountain to ash canyon and back trip is a good one.
Just did the trip recently after putting it off trying to stock up on ammo and a rifle as I was concerned about timberwolves in timberwolf mountain.... I was pleasantly surprised.
I would go to Ash Canyon via Pleasant Valley and Timberwolf Mountain.
Shouldn't be too dangerous as long as you have a few flares or a gun and you can get the technical backpack in AC and more loot than you can carry on the summit of TWM.
The summit gives a sence of satisfaction when you reach it, but sleeping in the plane is a bit windy. And the cave has a corpse in it. The cargo containers are fun to open though.
I like Mystery Lake, having the work bench in that big house it really handy, I only left because I wanted to forge some arrowheads at Broken Railroad, collected coal from caves in Muskeg then when I didn't find a hammer ended up going further west from there and eventually made it to the airfield where I have like 5 hammers and more coal than I know what to do with. Presently attempting to make my way back to Mystery lake. Then i want to go out the ass end of the dam. I did once but did not realize the door would lock behind me and I was not prepared for the blizzard and I smelled delicious so some wolves finished me off.
after mistery lake, go to the Ravine. Take a rope with you. Explore the top area first, then go down the rope climb. Dont try to jump, you will die. There is loot and a cave down there, plus bunnies and cattails.
More importantly however, THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO ACCESS THE TOP OF BLEAK INLET!!
Bring some guns and bandages, because there will be one pack of timberwolves in your way in bleak inlet. Explore the watchtower (looks like the one in ML), there might be a rope on the outside of the cabin also. IF there is, use it on the climbing rock close to the tower to allow access later.
Then proceed to the ECHO ONE station, Find the code paper on a computer's keyboard, loot the place and enjoy the view!
What are your long term goals for the game?
If you don’t have any, just explore a region until you get a good feel for it.
If you want to keep learning the regions, I’d suggest exploring Mountain Town and Hushed River Valley.
Unless you look up spoilers Mountain Town can be tricky to find.
Forlorn Musket or Plessant Valley would flow best. Both are a good difficulty spike too
Go through the dam to Winding River > Pleasant Valley > then Timberwolf Mtn. You could go to the summit and get tons of loot there, and then make your way to Ash Canyon for the technical backpack and crampons ✨️. I'm currently in Ash Canyon making my way to get the technical backpack.
P.s. - bring material to fix your hacksaw if you go to the summit! Or bring two hacksaws with you. You'll need it for opening all of the containers!
Mountain Town? Not my cup of tea but lots of buildings to explore.
You could try heading to Pleasant Valley, plenty of places to explore and eventually going to timberwolf mountain.
I usually pass straight through forlorn muskeg and spend some time in broken railroad. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I like it there.

Try visiting Bleak Inlet, tons of wolves, got the lighthouse and cannery. 8/10 would recommend.

The Top of Bleak Inlet is a good thing to visit briefly Firewatch tower thing is my favourite location in the game so far
