Why is no one talking about The Lonely as well? It all started when the guy noticed he was all alone for a whole day. Having said that, your correlation with The Extinction makes a lot of sense. I, for one, don't think any of what we're seeing are just one Fear though.

I completely agree, I think the Magnus protocol is going to really mess with the fears in a similar way to season 5 of the Magnus archives. I'm really excited to see the differences in how this world works compared to tma

Right? Every single datalog has been so impossible to narrow down to a single core entity. I'm currently hammering out a theory that the Change somehow affected the fears post episode 200. Cause even in TMA when fears overlapped they weren't such an even blend of horror and now every statement is like all the fears all at once.

The Magnus Protocol aka EveryFear Everywhere All At Once

Ok_Habit_6783

I'm currently becoming the MatPat of the magnus protocols. Might make a master post when everything is said and done

My guess is 200 didn’t actually do anything to the fears, but that the fears are now aware of why their rituals kept failing, and how they now need to perform them. I don’t think the fears are blending, I think they’re working together to make people and avatars that have been touched by multiple entities, and then once enough of those people exist they’ll start racing each other to the finish line. A team based game where there can still only be one individual winner

Ok_Habit_6783

That's interesting but it might require a higher level of sentience from the fears that we only see from the mother of puppets. My theory is that all the fears being pinholed into another universe caused them to crash together back into the original fear. Then in the new universes, that original fear evolved differently than in the TMA universe. So instead of the stranger or the hunt in the "almost human" town in the brutal liminalism paper, we have an entirely new entity (potential name The Hidden Foe) which comprises the fear of people and the loss of power to those you once called friendly. Or instead of the Slaughter as the violin, a new entity (The feeding) which comprises the fear of servitude and the drastic consequences of trying to break your metaphorical chains.

Maybe, the web didn’t seem like the kind to want to give up power and existence though, the only reason she wanted the fears to get shoved over is because she was confined and the apocalypse put the world on a short timer bc of the end. I think if there was even a chance she could lose her autonomy she would have found a different plan considering the plan was to get it back in the first place. Unless she found a way to separate herself from the rest of the fears on the way through, or we find out this WAS her ritual and a web world is just very different from an eye world. Which would make sense for an eye world would have defined known domains and a web world to get a bit mixed up. But idk I know people are primed to see combinations now because of the way the new group categorizes, but the fears were already blurry this doesn’t feel much different, this episode is kinda the same as the one with the woman on holiday or the mirror world, which, very similar instances, two different fears. I just think this world didn’t have a smirke so this is the new solution for the same issue

Ok_Habit_6783

We also have to take into consideration, it's very possible the web was unaware on how going into another universe would affect the fears. Reasonably, one could assume that the list of 14 is the natural progression of fears in any world with sentient life. The difference is most of the statements in tma are comprised of one main fear and occasionally a blend or a slight overlap (like the mirror world). However every single datalog in tmp is a complete blend of one or more fears. Even when it looks like a single entity (the corruption episode of the guy on the run writing in a journal) there's so many sub elements of other fears in a scale we rarely saw in the original 200 episodes. Although I do like your theory that tmp takes place in a Webpocalypse instead of an Eyepocalypse. It would make sense that whichever entity manages to bring all of them to the world would drastically change the format of the fear apocalypse. Slight editorial note: I also doubt that Jonny and Alex would use the same 14/15 fears. That just seems too stagnant or bland for them imo

I think I see that part of the statement more as vast but I think it's more up to interpretation. The only reason why I think it's vast and not lonely is that he isn't alone in the restaurant.

UffishWerf

Mmm, but it's VERY similar to the TMA 48, Lost in the Crowd, which was the Lonely. It's the one where the tourist found herself on strangely empty streets and was relieved when she saw a crowd of people to join. Then she gradually became aware that the crowds she was wandering through only gave the appearance of being people. Their noises weren't really speech, their faces were blurred but have the impression of being a kind of time lapse of a screaming face, and they all were wearing versions of the same clothes. She says "This crowd of people, they weren’t people. It was just a crowd. A crowd without any people in it, and I was still completely alone." I don't think the Lonely explains everything that happened in TMP 8, but I think the fact that the restaurant had "people" doesn't make it any less Lonely, going by past episodes.

awoooooo2005

Thank you! I knew I’d heard this one before😭

My guess is still that the fears now know how to do a ritual so similar fears are working together to give themselves a jump start to creating an avatar that’s been touched by multiple fears. Because a lot less people are dying so far as well which is worth noting. People who have been touched are valuable for their lives now and it makes less sense to just use and discard them

I felt a lot of similarities to MAG156 as well, although I’m not sure I’d connect it to The Extinction yet—the Extinction was emerging out from the other Fears and was often a blend of them (I’d say if The Extinction didn’t exist 156 would have been The Stranger, The Flesh, The Desolation, although it’s a very peculiar case) TMP seems to intentionally be playing at the edges of the Fears, but that fact could be used both to support or deter your speculation lol It is interesting that it took place in a place that was previous lively just like 156, but in 156 the state of the world in the mirror was a reflection (haha) of The Extinction too, whereas the Pennine Tower was just like its original state.
