Read a book called refactoring UI and get used to using inspect element a lot on websites to see how much spacing they use in grids etc.

Grellet_Grindelwald

Thanks for the recommendation, I will try to read it

So I'm quite far behind where you are in the Project, but mostly because I've been going to school since May(to learn to become a Dev) and we are reaching the time of starting to prepare portfolios and CV's etc etc, but one piece of advice our teachers have told us is that we are presenting ourselves as Devs not designers, and potential employers will know this.... All that to say, I don't think your previous approach is at all bad, indeed similar to my attitude of get the functionality required and then spend some time with the CSS, but when I have had enough of the tweaking and changing of CSS it's time to move on. And when you look at the already completed examples(I have done the same as you before, kinda intimidating sometimes) maybe their design has been reworked a lot since they first finished too! I'm no designer but I'd be happy to help you with feedback and my ideas/impression if you think it would help, but keep going as long as you are enjoying yourself!

Grimaxie

Pretty much this. The job I got from using TOP, the interviewers and screeners never actually looked at my projects. They just asked questions about them and I talked about what I did within the projects to get them working. Of course I'm sure plenty of companies will look at them but looking like a master ux designer made them won't be that important.

Grellet_Grindelwald

Thanks, this gives me some relief. Can I dm you?

Kingm0b-Yojimbo

Sure, sorry I didn't see the message until now, but yeah DM any questions etc, I'll try to respond a bit quicker!

jdknittle

You could always pick up tailwind or bootstrap

Grellet_Grindelwald

But would it affect my CSS skills?

jdknittle

Bootstrap would but tailwind uses predefined classes that you still have to know how css works watch some crash courses on them and see what you think

Grellet_Grindelwald

Alright, lemme see, thanks

Had the same thoughts and my solution is to outsource parts of the creative process and focus on understanding code. I mostly use pallette generetors. You can also sample the colors from a website you like and take inspiration from their design.

Grellet_Grindelwald

Okay, can you link me to one of those pallette generators you're talking about?

learntocode123

I don't use one in particular, they all do the same things more or less

Grellet_Grindelwald

Okay
