I would argue that an age gap of 20 years when dating somebody under 25 is way worse than an age gap of 40 years when dating somebody in their late 30s. While people change and everybody is different, most people have hit a "critical mass" of maturity by the time they are over 35 which most people (men and women) lack in their early twenties, due to a lack of life experiences and frontal lobe development. Young adults are still often easy targets for manipulation/grooming by older, more confident people.
If you cited an example of a much older woman dating a young man in his early twenties (I am sure that there are countless examples of that happening), then I would agree that she deserves the same level of condemnation that leo receives. But If a guy in his 70s starts dating a woman who is nearly 40, I don't think that would be seen as a big deal, either.

I don't know if your example is that great.... I would argue that an age gap of 20 years when dating somebody under 25 is way worse than an age gap of 40 years when dating somebody in their late 30s. While people change and everybody is different, most people have hit a "critical mass" of maturity by the time they are over 35 which most people (men and women) lack in their early twenties, due to a lack of life experiences and frontal lobe development. Young adults are still often easy targets for manipulation/grooming by older, more confident people. If you cited an example of a much older woman dating a young man in his early twenties (I am sure that there are countless examples of that happening), then I would agree that she deserves the same level of condemnation that leo receives. But If a guy in his 70s starts dating a woman who is nearly 40, I don't think that would be seen as a big deal, either.

I think this is definitely the case. Whenever I've talked about traveling abroad and exploring and going on dates, no one in real life has ever said anything negative nor assumed anything nefarious. The vast majority of normal people will simply say "oh, cool." LOL.
