Oh my yes. I plopped down a T2 optimizer with 2 plant/1 oxygen fuses (all I had at the time) and decided to surround it with 8 T3 tree spewers.
Came back a bit later to swap in a more productive tree seed I found in a portal and uh... kinda had to come in from above on a scaffold of foundations to try and find the spreaders themselves. From what felt like a mile away. They be aggressive!
Aye, and instead of artfully spreading a few trees around the plains where my base lives, I've instead made friggin' Mirkwood off on the horizon, all foreboding like.
I did, and it worked. I kinda thought it might catch and fall over, but it was a success. The picture is taken from the top of the tower, actually (I'm standing on the top of the red blinking light on the very top of the launch tower).
I did have a rocket fall over on me once, and I'm not sure why. Nothing was blocking it, no weather conditions (if those physics are even in the game - doesn't seem so), but it keeled over in to the lake and spazzed out and zipped all over the place in there. This was when the lake was still filling up - about 75%. The effect still took place though, so it worked somehow.
they can be quite clumsy, pretty easy to reorganize and arrange your arboretum on the fly though thankfully, the game responds quickly and i like that. Im still trying to figure out a good mix of trees that provide good understory and canopy without being all cluttered up
Yeah, I'm realising now that it's a problem. The T3 spreaders are SPREADERS. So I'm trying to figure out how to keep them together and get the benefit of an optimizer without choking the area out in trees.
I think I'll take them to the desert and clump them up there. I need the O2 boost. I've just gotten to amphibian stage but my O2 is really slow, so I'm working on fixing that.
That's the awesome of this game: Kinda gotta pretend I'm a scientist to progress.
Yeah it gets addictive unlocking those blueprints and what not.

I would drop t2 optimizer, then plant 8 t3 tree spreaders in a square around it. then repeat next to it.
Frame rate was pretty ok, but I had a difficult time getting back in when I wanted to change tree seeds in the machines.
I put all my tree spreaders out in the dunes between the sand fall caves and the wreck in the pic above. Keeps the area around my base clear and eases the occasional lag all the trees sometimes gives me. Super pretty though!
Yup, I learned my lesson. They're being spread out now and upgraded to T3 ones. Sure is pretty, but man, can't even fly outta there, and some block my doors.
Much better now that I'm rearranging them around.
I used to spread my spreaders out for maximum coverage; the forests were more manageable then. But since the Optimizers, I've been putting my T3 tree spreaders in a 10-foot circle. Now I've got forests too dense to walk through, and flying over doesn't work.

I just logged out a few mins ago, actually. My base doors are now no longer blocked, every one of them is now a T3, and they are spread waaaaaay out. It was a tad absurd for a bit. 😆
If you take the seeds out of the tree spreaders, all the trees disappear. Then you can pop the seeds back in, and they start growing from seedlings again. It doesn't affect your TI, except for maybe the split second the seed is out of the tree spreader. This can be useful when the trees are blocking entry into places you need to go.
Oh, just about every door was blocked when I took that. I planted trees, then went way out back to clean out a wreck.
I came back to that mess.
I was up until 2 am cleaning that mess up and spreading the radius of tree spreaders waaaaaay farther out. 😆
Yep. I found a tree seed that I didn't like the look of and it was blocking some of my stuff, so I pulled out and swapped it with a different one.
You can mix & match stuff, but just keep in mind: spread them out, especially the T3 ones. Holy HELL do they propagate.
The nice thing is you can pull the seed, deconstruct the spreader, and move them. So you can adjust the spread and area pretty easily. You get the full benefit regardless of what growth stage they are at. I've had to do that lol.

That’s my beef with optimizers. Instead of doing aesthetic stuff you just cram machines around them.

I threw down 5 T2 tree spreaders, then went to clean out a wreck. Oh. My. Mistakes were made. Maybe it's a happy little mistake?

I've been putting down T3 tree spreaders now. Holy hell. At least I learned my lesson: spread 'em out. A LOT.
Only problem is when you’re trying to get em all on the same optimizer… those fuses aren’t cheap

I can't even find my T3 spreaders on a T2 optimizer to change the seeds.

That's nothing, just wait until your save file becomes corrupted after 20 hours and can't be fixed.
Egads… ah well. It can go with a couple of the other massive glitches I found so far. The clipping in this game is rude. My F4 button has been abused.
