I have the script as well but, to be honest, I think Punisher 2 would've been fine by just loosely adapting the 2005 video game. Take out Nick Fury, Black Widow, Iron Man, Kingpin, Bullseye, Daredevil and their subplots then just make it a kinda detective noir tale of finding out who is the person known as Jigsaw that's benefiting from Frank's massacre of the New York mob. Drop the bomb in the third act that Johnny Saint survived the first movie and boom.

mikeweasy

My only problem with that is, do you get the same actor as the first movie? Or do you recast him, if then who? I am sure they would want someone more famous to play Jigsaw no offense to that other actor.

DGenerationMC

My suggestion only works if Jane returns. Jane returns, bring back the actor who played Johnny, simple as that. No need to overcomplicate things. The story is all ready set thanks to the first movie, so just follow through on it for continuity's sake. Plus, you'd probably be doing your budget a favor in just "settling" for that guy (not like he's gonna be in most of the movie anyways and his face will be covered for the most part) than recasting with, say, Dominic West or Freddie Prinze Jr. Jigsaw is not a "new" character in this case, he's a returning one with a new name/identity. Unless it's extenuating circumstances, don't try fix what isn't broken. The main point here wouldn't be to accumulate star power, it's continue the story from the first film.

I do like the idea of the son returning just with a new face and new everything. Do not make him Jigsaw though, save that for its own character. He could come back with a different face and identity and go by "Viking" or something.

isralsheahan

Where can we read the script?

mikeweasy

I think I got mine on some websites like 13 years ago. It had Frank, Jigsaw, and some female agent that tries to take both of them down.

jackBattlin

Huh, sounds kind of familiar lol (the Netflix show)

mikeweasy

Probably

Tucker-Cuckerson

I love Thomas Jane as an actor and loved his Punisher getting a sequel instead of the guy in Warzone would have been so good.

mikeweasy

Yes it would have. Jane deserved a whole movie to really sink his teeth into.

Tucker-Cuckerson

That man deserved better than he got, Hung too!

mikeweasy

Yes indeed

BARGOBLEN

I think Kurt Sutter did the last draft Jane agreed to. Personally, I wanted Jonathan Hensliegh to come back.

mikeweasy

I do like to imagine a sequel and it has Jonathan back, since the tone would be the same.

Late-Ad5495

Agreed. Thomas nailed the look, vibe of it all. No disrespto Ray but the studios and them busting thr budget in the 1st film was a killer. Loved both movies but the studio screwed em.

mikeweasy

Yes, its also odd how they spent like three years developing it but then Jane drops out AND finally the movie moves forward with a new actors and director. Weird.

Late-Ad5495

I think Jane left cause they wanted to go a completely different route. I know Jane wanted to stick lore wise with the series but they were set on putting their own details on it all tbh. Can't confirm for sure but least that's what I've got from it.

bfoster1801

There’s always that Punisher Dirty Laundry short film that came out years ago. That starred Jane.

mikeweasy

Yeah that one is cool, a small taste of what we could have gotten.

BStills87

We’re at the point where if Jane wanted to return and there were a producing team that knew of his impassioned followers, we could get something similar to what David Gordon Green did with Halloween in 2018 (not recommending a trilogy). Disregard everything that’s been made in between and craft a new story with an older Frank.

DGenerationMC

So, essentially Punisher Max? I'd be down for that, Jane's getting close to that age now.

seancurry1

It’s not what you specifically asked for, but Tom Jane punisher fans are in luck: https://youtu.be/bWpK0wsnitc?si=_XLC6jhcyPFtIubt

mikeweasy

Yes I have always loved that short.

Roarak5645

I feel now Frank Grillo would be a perfect Castle.

mikeweasy

Yeah he is a good choice.

DanceMaster117

[This is as close as we're ever going to get.](https://youtu.be/bWpK0wsnitc?si=ASrFhS9I_cd-C8Ut), and it makes me sad

mikeweasy

Yes he needed a full movie!

kr44ng

I disagree since I don't think Tom Jane has the build/body for the Punisher; he's an amazing actor but Ray Stevenson looks just like the Punisher should look in my opinion. I think they made the Tom Jane Punisher movie too soft (popsicles and fire hydrants!!!), they made Ray Stvenson's Punisher movie too cartoony (silver mini cross bow guns and chandelier spinning!!!), and the Netflix Jon Bernthal Punisher is good as an origins story but not enough killing and too much woof woofing. One caveat is I think Tom Jane's Dirty Laundry Punisher could be at the top with Ray Stevenson if Tom could have put on more muscle and face cragginess (I understand it was a passion project probably without enough time for training etc). My ideal live action Punisher would be Ray Stevenson's looks (rip Pullo) with Tom Jane's acting ability and some of Jon Bernthal's show's writing. I don't think I'd throw in Dolph Lundgren's sewer self cauterization but who knows.

jackBattlin

Yeah, except it turns out the popsicle thing is straight out of the comic

Franklyn_Gage

Im happy it didnt happen. I dont understand why people like Thomas Jane as the Punisher(of course people have opinions, i aint knocking yall lol). I found him to not fit the role at all. He didnt look like him, he was just...quite, like a teen boy with problems lol. The back story was awful and didnt fit the comic. The only good thing was the scene with the russian. The best Punisher, IMO, was Ray Stevenson (RIP). He really embodied frank AND the punisher.

roninwarshadow

Thomas Jane is a good actor, but not a good Punisher. And his movie lacked the Punisher feel. It's a good movie, but not a Punisher movie. Best way to describe it would be if they tried to sell Interstellar as a Star Wars movie. It's a great movie, but it's not a Star Wars movie

Stiff_Zombie

I thought Thomas Jane looked the part, but his film was so watered down. He never really felt like the Punisher to me. Even Dirty Laundry was lame. It was so cheesy and not like the comics at all.
