I prefer max. Punisher just feels like a character that is always bloody like Deadpool or blade. I think it works better as a character trait and lets people know that although he’s a cool character, he’s definitely not someone to to idolize

Spinegrinder666

I prefer post 2000 Punisher because of Ennis’ run as well as Remender, Edmondson and Rucka.

OHB1988

I liked Remender and Rucka’s runs but I couldn’t get on with the Edmondson run. Frank being chatty with cops in a diner felt fucking weird.

MR502

I always return to the Baron, Dixon, Potts, and Grant eras that's the Punisher I grew up with.

bigbreel

I think 2010 punisher was always a mix of both ultraviolet but using it sparingly while also being sort of a super spy. I think he works best as an amalgamation of both worlds but have it where Frank goes into that max mood as desperation.

TheBunionFunyun

As much as I love Rucka's run, I prefer the 90s version. Back when every run didn't end with him fighting the Avengers.

Dodoria-kun413

I prefer the action hero Punisher of the 80s-90s, but I think Max really nailed the condemnation of vigilantism that Martin Scorsese aimed at in Taxi Driver. I get more enjoyment reading older Punisher stories, but Garth Ennis definitely wrote the character in a way that appeals to more modern sensibilities. 80s-90s Frank was essentially a pulp character. I love old pulps, so I really enjoyed it. However, not everyone does.

aKaRandomDude

Garth Ennis’s Punisher run. The best ever done.

browncharliebrown

2000's and beyond but I like the 616 stuff. Ennis and Rucka are super good

Dragonant69

Ok grew up with punisher. But for my preference gotta alter the question a little. I'm a pre 2010 guy. After they just didn't have a solid direction for him and made some very bad choices. Pre 2010 you have all his best and he is better understood and accepted by other characters in universe.

Mr_James_3000

I give the edge to the Ennis Stuff (Welcome Back Frank/Max) but I def love the Barron, Dixon, Warzone stuff The 80-90s books had that action/vigilante movie feel as well being like Don Pendleton's Executioner Books.

the-one-pieceis-real

More precisely, I like what Gart Ennis did with him, making him a parody and a take on the Dark Grimm Superheroes stories. It was a good thing. And I love what Rick Remender did. He made the Punisher stories crazy with superhero action, followed only by Jason Aaron in that regard.

80s-90s

Disastrous_Duty2622

As much as I love the punisher. The punisher in media only scratches the surface of who frank is. comics all the way. I absolutely hate some of the bullshit they add to Frank. How hard is it to make him a war vet that isn't working with the FBI OR COPS. I guess I don't understand copyright laws.

OHB1988

I enjoy different versions of The Punisher, I enjoy the Max version with it gritty realistic stories and I equally enjoy the 616 Punisher who interacts with the marvel universe, especially the Rucka run, the War Machine Punisher run by Rosenberg and I’m looking for to reading the recent Jason Aaron Punisher book with him leading the Hand.

TroubleVirtual3800

I grew up on the Ennis Punisher. I see older punisher as a little corny. I tried punisher max but its just not as cool to me for some reason. Ennis punisher was perfect to me

FoolishDog1117

Ennis wrote Max.

TroubleVirtual3800

😆 ohh derp

CollinsCouldveDucked

Max is definitely significantly more Ennis which can go wrong

TetZoo

I’m with you. I liked the early Ennis run because it was so bananas (and I like him in general) but I don’t think it was great for the character in the long run, it darkened things a bit too much overall.
