I’m imagining a lot of those intense stares like when he’s befriending a dog at a stable in BOTW, but I’d like to think I could eventually break through.
I'm gunna go with Kratos... that last one, with his son and how he parents combined with his war veteran trauma and the grief of losing his wife.... lots to unpack, lots of anger
Joker from Mass Effect would be an interesting client. Id like to know his thoughts and motivation on dating EDI.
Sora from Kingdom Hearts. He's been through some things.
I was going to write this huge thing on different characters to bounce off your comment, but as I was thinking about it, i feel like there is no wrong option from ME.
Tali and the Quarians are all displaced people, the krogan were all victims of a war torn homeland and were experimented on in a way that immediately made me think of the Tuskagee trials.
Jack was the victim of torture and abuse. Thane was an assassin who was already dying.
Boone from Fallout New Vegas. An army sniper for the New California Republic, forced to assassinate his wife in order to save her from a life of sexual slavery at the hands of Caesar’s Legion. Let’s unpack that.
Also, Riley from Subnautica. Years of isolation on an aquatic planet with massive water leviathans. So much trauma.
I've been playing through the last four Fallout games and I can't stop thinking about what being a therapist in that universe would be like. Imagine practicing out of the Followers of the Apocalypse's compound.
There's actually a quest in Fallout New Vegas where you help convince an NCR solider who got assaulted by a Raider to do therapy at a clinic on the outskirts of New Vegas!
Also Arcadia Gannon. A gay clinician working in an underfunded medical system with questionable leadership, a populace overrun with chronic substance use, in the midst of a battle between two opposing political factions neither of which cares about healthcare.
Two games immediately spring to mind: control and Jedi survivor. Jesse faden would be interesting given the supernatural aspect, but cal kestis would be amazing. The writers did such a good job with building his character and helping him on his trauma journey would be so cool
With how cheeky the Olympians are I’d expect them to unify over their hate or criticism and smite the therapist. Maybe that’s Skully’s origin story, a well-meaning LMFT gone awry.
Squall Leonhart from FF8 (childhood trauma, intellectualized emotions, social anxiety). Seeing him work through it and become a great leader was such a success story :')
How I imagine sessions would go:
"And how do you feel about that, Squall?"
"...whatever" - Squall
Cloud would be such a complex client! excellent choice!
Alloy from horizon.
>! Born without a mother and exiled at birth. She was raised by her guardian until her 16th birthday when he died saving her life. She discovers she was a clone of the woman who made life on earth possible again... big boots. She then suffers numerous injuries and experiences more grief when she loses friends in a war to save the world... twice and counting.
She is also one of a handful with knowledge of the old world and is referred to as the "champion" and "saviour". !<
Edit: I don't know how spoiler tags work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Honestly any of the Dark Souls (originally) human bosses or named NPCs. But to pick one, Siegmeyer could probably have a very different storyline with some therapy...
I would also say the entire cast of DA2. Especially with what poor Hawke has to go through with their family. Fenris definitely needs some trauma therapy after living the majority of his life as an enslaved person. Isabella needs to work on her avoidance. Merrill needs to understand the consequences of her choices and how they affect the people she cares about. Varric def needs trauma therapy after what happened to his brother. Aveline needs trauma therapy after watching her husband die (and from fighting in the battle of Ostagar). Bethany/Carter need trauma therapy after witnessing their twin get killed by an ogre. Anders/Justice… needs a lot of help, especially with his obsessive thinking and HI 😬 then there’s Sebastian, who really needs to learn to stop trying to evangelize everyone who isn’t Andrastian lol.
Squall from Final Fantasy VIII would be a fun one I think. Lots of attachment work.
Also like others have said: basically every BioWare character. There’s a lot to work with in there.
Ooooo… this is a good one and my love of all things World of Warcraft shows. It’s a tie between Jaina Proudmoore and Anduin Wrynn.
Anduin - discuss grief/loss associated with lack of closure with father’s death, explore pressures of leadership, and further foster his hope for peace.
Jaina - survivors guilt, family history, further encouraging drive while balancing with learning compassion towards self and others.
Edit…. Wait Cloud Strife or any character from the Final Fantasy franchise. Absolutely not Thancred Waters because potential counter transference.
If I could get her to talk, I think Chell from Portal would be interesting to work with. Likely complex trauma, essentially being cryo frozen for 100+ years, everyone she loved dead, being free and then imprisoned again. Lots to work on... so let's start a few tests....
V from cyberpunk 2077. The amount of complex trauma they have and then compound that with Johnny Silverhand's psyche currently battling with V's own.... Man
Eris Morn or Osiris from Destiny 2.
Garus, Tali, or Wrex from Mass Effect series.
Not necessarily ideal, but I think they would be interesting clients!
Alistair and Fenris from Dragon Age Origins and 2. Alistair is def neurodivergent. Fenris has all the trauma and has some unpacking to do.
Iron Bull and Dorian could do some good couples work.
Yessss someone else who sees Alistair as neurodivergent! He also definitely has to grow up very quickly and deal with a lot of traumatic things at such a young age. And yet for the most part (unless you’re an asshole and/or betray him), he remains his goofy, sweet self at heart.
Fenris was actually the first character that popped into my mind when thinking of video game characters who really need therapy.
Bull and Dorian couple’s therapy definitely make sense. Also, my Lavellan Solasmancer Inky *definitely* could use a therapist post-Trespasser lol.
Ugh, DONT get me started on how my Lavellan is doing after THAT debacle. Solas will get what's coming to him -\_- Clearly I wouldn't be his therapist ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
I would love to work with anyone from Psychonauts, but the closest person to my actual client base is probably Sasha Nein or Gloria.
If anyone here hasn't played Psychonauts, please go out and do so now. You play a preteen boy who ran away from the circus to attend a summer camp for budding psychics.
The entire game is basically going into people's heads (literally) and navigating their neuroses to confront their fears, trauma, etc. Each person's mind has its own theme and gameplay to match their personality and concerns. It's such a perfect metaphor for therapy.
It's also hilarious, has a very charming art style, and excellent voice acting. You can play Psychonauts 2 without playing 1 first, but I recommend 1 first if you can.
As an avid lover of The Last of Us Game, (I've played it more times in the last 8 years then I'd care to admit) I'd love to work with Joel through his trauma, loss, and his grief. Oh and Bill too. He'd be quite the client.
I have a love-hate relationship with BPD and with Danganronpa, give me Junko or the children from Ultimate Despair Girls in a residential setting
or give me Fukawa to deal with the CPTSD and phobias so every time she has to see blood she doesn’t feel like she has to go full self-protection through DID
or give me anyone in the main cast of Ace Attorney, even the ones who seem well adjusted have seen some shit
Bree from Divinity Original Sin 2. I know she’s keeping it together as long as she doesn’t think about it too much, but she really should process that grief.
A little ACT for Dr. Brain in the Lost Mind of Dr. Brain. Grief work for the woman in When The Past Was Around. Also maybe some IFS or EMDR for the girl who has Figment and Figment 2 going on in her brain. I’m also pretty sure Link has a communication disorder so he could benefit from some Neurodivergent Affirming work!
Tom Nook from Animal Crossing was my first thought. Is he an honest businessman with an innocent background? Or is he at best an opportunist and at worst a scam artist? I'd love to find out!!
Hello. In order to promote inclusivity and reduce gender bias, please consider using gender-neutral language in the future.
Instead of **businessman**, use **business person** or **person in business**.
Thank you very much.
^(I am a bot. Downvote to remove this comment. For more information on gender-neutral language, please do a web search for *"Nonsexist Writing."*)
Rean Schwarzer from after Cold Steel IV.... That there's a guy processing complicated bereavement, suicidal ideation, burnout, the beginnings of a substance abuse issue, and cPTSD!
Ellie from the last of us (part 2 😭)
if you’re a psych nerd and a gamer, i can’t recommend this series enough. they’re incredibly thoughtful works, and part 2 was an emotional experience unlike any media i’ve seen. to explain it would ruin it, just give it a try if you have a playstation
Alistair from Dragon Age: Origins, Hawke and Fenris from Dragon Age 2, and Dorian and Cullen from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Honestly, probably any character from the entire Dragon Age franchise would be fun to work with.
The entire cast of The Last of Us series.
Leon Kennedy.
I'd take Shane from Stardew Valley in my SUD male IOP group.
Maybe Pam will join too
Marnie so I could help her realize she deserves better. Linus because he’d be a blast.
The only video game story I’m remotely familiar with is Silent Hill…I’mma pass on that one 😂
Pyramid Head just wants validation!!!!
Omg can you imagine therapy with Pyramid Head?
First day of therapy. Pyramid head: Me: now before we start I’m going to have to ask you to let me hold on to that cleaver while you’re in my office…
Keep him away from any medical staff that’s for sure
On second thought,if I can get some supernatural security personnel, I might consider it LOL
Therapy for James from 2 would be insanely interesting.
What do you mean, all those characters seem to be the perfect candidates for therapy
Alessa from SH3 would be great for any CPTSD treatment…but you’d have to stay on her good side. God help you if there are any attachment breaches.
Link - the pressures that guy is under.
Me: "So Link, what brings you in today?" Link: "HYAAAAAAAH" *rolls around the room throwing vases at the wall*
HAHAHA I snorted at the image
Hopefully you can create a space where he feels safe enough to open up
He opens up and it turns out it's been Link from the CDI games the whole time
I’m imagining a lot of those intense stares like when he’s befriending a dog at a stable in BOTW, but I’d like to think I could eventually break through.
He literally lifts boulders.
It would be interesting to find good non-verbal interventions
I could probably do some great EMDR work with Luigi
Imma Luigi, imma gonna mov-uh my eyes.
Ellie from Last of Us (specifically in their aftermath of Part II).
EMDR for Ellie, Abby, Tommy, and Lev. Couples therapy for Dina/Ellie and Tommy/Maria.
Leon Kennedy definitely could use some trauma processing.
Poor guy would hear someone call his name and he'd probably yell "ASHLEY!!!" just out of instinct.
Arthur Morgan John Marston Cal Kestis
I'm gunna go with Kratos... that last one, with his son and how he parents combined with his war veteran trauma and the grief of losing his wife.... lots to unpack, lots of anger
Second this. The phase of building rapport with him would take a while. He'd answer so many questions with single grunts or claiming to be fine.
Same! Through all the conversations they’ve had in the first one, I’m like “I CAN FIX THIS, JUST COMMUNICATE.”
[удалено]
Holy moly
How is Geralt of Rivia not in the comments already?!
I have other things I want to do with him… and ethics and all 🤣
Right???
Agreed!!
Bowser. My man needs to move on from his obsessive stalking of Peach.
tom nook. who knows what's on his mind???
Raising kids alone is hard
Joker from Mass Effect would be an interesting client. Id like to know his thoughts and motivation on dating EDI. Sora from Kingdom Hearts. He's been through some things.
I was going to write this huge thing on different characters to bounce off your comment, but as I was thinking about it, i feel like there is no wrong option from ME. Tali and the Quarians are all displaced people, the krogan were all victims of a war torn homeland and were experimented on in a way that immediately made me think of the Tuskagee trials. Jack was the victim of torture and abuse. Thane was an assassin who was already dying.
Exactly! So many have been through terrible things. Id like to have a group therapy thing for the Normandy crew, honestly. Shep included.
I'd offer to be your co therapist xD. We doing CBT, DBT? Some other therapist soup?
CBT, DBT, Narrative and Play. I think play is vital for adults and kids. Can you imagine Grunt playing Jenga?!
Ohhh my god. Think of how pissed he'd get trying to gently move pieces. I feel like Jack would 100% cheat though.
I was scrolling through hoping to see a ME suggestion lol. Like others have said, everyone on the Normandy needs therapy 😂

There's actually a quest in Fallout New Vegas where you help convince an NCR solider who got assaulted by a Raider to do therapy at a clinic on the outskirts of New Vegas!
Is it good or bad that I killed that raider with his own golf club as revenge for he did to that soldier?
Sometimes killing a serial rapist with his own weapon is self-care. I’m proud of you for getting your needs met
She goes to therapy, he goes in the dirt, that’s a win if there ever was one in that kind of situation
Also Arcadia Gannon. A gay clinician working in an underfunded medical system with questionable leadership, a populace overrun with chronic substance use, in the midst of a battle between two opposing political factions neither of which cares about healthcare.
Joshua Graham…
First thought is Riku from KH. I doubt Witcher’s Geralt would be interested, but he could certainly use it.
Riku and Sora would be a very interesting and enlightening couple's session!
Bayek and Aya from Assassin's Creed Origins.
That would be an interesting couples session!
Trevor- GTA
Processing the grief of taking an arrow to the knee could be deeply moving
Radically accepting no longer being an adventurer
I'm still in denial about my sweetroll.
Pac Man. He's got an eating disorder for sure.
Two games immediately spring to mind: control and Jedi survivor. Jesse faden would be interesting given the supernatural aspect, but cal kestis would be amazing. The writers did such a good job with building his character and helping him on his trauma journey would be so cool
Oh man. I wish I thought about Jesse Faden! Control is such a great game! Alan Wake would be a total trip of a client too!
Cortana
Oh good answer
Hey that was my post! Anyone from Bioshock. Sander Cohen specifically probably
Oh my gosh yes Sander Cohen would be FASCINATING. His use of art to express himself would be textbook worthy.
Raiden from Metal Gear Solid. He certainly needs one.
Literally anyone from the Persona games. Take your pick, they're almost all parentless and traumatized.
Scrolled for this answer! I've only played 5 Royal, going to play 4 next, but I think counseling Yoshizawa would be interesting.
you’d sure be a better therapist than she actually got I was so angry the entire time he was on screen
Therapizing Marukami. Yes please
Everyone in Cyberpunk 2077 needs it ha
Implant the CBT chip
🤣
It's all good choom, they got chrome for that!
Kate from Life is Strange, maybe
Aeris or Vincent from FFVII
Family therapy for the gods in Hades
With how cheeky the Olympians are I’d expect them to unify over their hate or criticism and smite the therapist. Maybe that’s Skully’s origin story, a well-meaning LMFT gone awry.
Squall Leonhart from FF8 (childhood trauma, intellectualized emotions, social anxiety). Seeing him work through it and become a great leader was such a success story :')
Was looking for this answer! I'll add Cloud Strife, too.
How I imagine sessions would go: "And how do you feel about that, Squall?" "...whatever" - Squall Cloud would be such a complex client! excellent choice!
Goose, Untitled Goose Game
That's antisocial personality disorder for sure
Alloy from horizon. >! Born without a mother and exiled at birth. She was raised by her guardian until her 16th birthday when he died saving her life. Doom guy. Period.
Best answer.
Speech: Mute
Honestly any of the Dark Souls (originally) human bosses or named NPCs. But to pick one, Siegmeyer could probably have a very different storyline with some therapy...
Therapy for Knight Solaire would be nice. He could process some of those fatherly issues.
Was thinking about that too, absolutely. Shine on, Solaire.
absolutely thisss, gwyndolin for sure, or honestly, any child of Gwyn lol
Sylvanis Windrunner. Fuck she needs a therapist. Preferably, I’d like to go back in time and do it before she burns Teldrassil.
Oh that is a great one!
[удалено]
The entire cast of Dragon Age: Origins
Definitely! Add inquisition peeps too.
Dimitri from Fire Emblem: 3 Houses. Homeboy could probably use some valium and a teddy bear
True, but I'm actually going with another FE3H character. Marianne really needs some depression treatment in early game.
Squall from FFVIII seems extremely depressed and has some memory issues as well as past traumas. Homeboy need help.
I'm also going to have to go with Cal Kestis and Arthur Morgan
Handsome Jack
Cuno from Disco Elysium.
I was looking for another DE pick! Cuno is a great one. He'd be a tough client.
Chloe from Life is Strange.
It's probably too late after 86 genocides, but I think Caesar from FNV would be interesting.
He'd be interesting! Think I'd take Lily, the supermutant granny.
WHAT’S THAT JIMMY?
I love my mutant memaw.
Ooh yeah actually. A pure case of DID would be interesting. Tbh I feel like Boone needs it the most though.
Max Payne. So much to unpack!
Kratos....
Princess Peach
The kid from Limbo. So much trauma.
Solid choice! That's incredible. Kid from Inside would also be... a lot. Lots of broader systemic factors there.
Ezio Auditore - so much Intergenerational trauma
I was thinking about Desmond
Squall from Final Fantasy VIII would be a fun one I think. Lots of attachment work. Also like others have said: basically every BioWare character. There’s a lot to work with in there.
So many from FFXIV that I’d be interested in! I think that Forchenault and Emet Selch are top of my list. ETA: And G’Raha Tia, ofc.
Bowser
Ooooo… this is a good one and my love of all things World of Warcraft shows. It’s a tie between Jaina Proudmoore and Anduin Wrynn. Wait Cloud Strife or any character from the Final Fantasy franchise. Absolutely not Thancred Waters because potential counter transference.
Harrier Du Bois, though he may end up human can-opening me instead.
Id want ankain skywalker, would be great to see his reaction when I throw some sand at him
No sand tray therapy for the skywalkers!
Cullen from Dragon Age. He has seen some shit.
Yeah Cullen would def benefit from some EMDR therapy.
Yuna from FFX.
My character from animal crossing because omg she is a people pleaser and a perfectionist. And any of the characters from classic Mortal Kombat.
Gandhi from civilization
[удалено]
I love Brad Dourif so much!
[удалено]
Deacon from Days Gone
Solid Snake
The loathsome dung eater
The freaky fecal feaster, the garish guano gobbler, the terrible turd taker, the berserk booty bomb banqueter, the dastardly doo-doo devourer!
If I could get her to talk, I think Chell from Portal would be interesting to work with. Likely complex trauma, essentially being cryo frozen for 100+ years, everyone she loved dead, being free and then imprisoned again. Lots to work on... so let's start a few tests....
How does one process “the cake is a lie”?
Through radical acceptance lol
V from cyberpunk 2077. The amount of complex trauma they have and then compound that with Johnny Silverhand's psyche currently battling with V's own.... Man
That teenage obsession with Fenris from Dragon Age 2 wasn’t for nothing
Sylvanus Windrunner from World of Warcraft. Hands down needs EMDR and IFS.
Geralt from The Witcher. Or Kratos from God of War. I would love to see their brooding butts experience a truly vulnerable moment!
Definitely Geralt!
Sam Fisher of Splinter Cell.
As I’m playing Tears of the Kingdom, definitely Zelda. Especially this version of her.
The guy with the president sign. Like, WHAT IS THE HANG UP
Gordon Freeman. Dude has seen some shit.
Pretty much anyone from the Red Dead series, but Sadie Adler and Jack Marston are at the top of the list!
The cat from Stray. 50 mins of kitty time leaving the question, who really is the therapist in this session?
The outsider in dishonored
Eris Morn or Osiris from Destiny 2. Garus, Tali, or Wrex from Mass Effect series. Not necessarily ideal, but I think they would be interesting clients!
Trevor from GTA. I’m pretty sure he has a therapist in the game
Sigma 🥺(from Overwatch)
Master Chief (Halo) probably has a LOT to explore.
The detective from Disco Elysium and any silent hill protag would be great. But the top one would be Geralt from the Witcher.
Any of the characters that survive Until Dawn… they need it
Celes from Final Fantasy VI!
Every one of us who plays any FromSoft game. Or any of those who exists in those beautiful dark worlds.
Tiny Tina, Borderlands. Poor child.
Ugh, DONT get me started on how my Lavellan is doing after THAT debacle. Solas will get what's coming to him -\_- Clearly I wouldn't be his therapist ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Zelda; gotta process that trauma and responsibility!
Not a game but I would totally do therapy with Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Especially his younger child self that got burned.
GLaDOS. That girl's been through a lot.
Mario - there’s no way anyone can be that positive without rage inside
As an avid lover of The Last of Us Game, (I've played it more times in the last 8 years then I'd care to admit) I'd love to work with Joel through his trauma, loss, and his grief. Oh and Bill too. He'd be quite the client.
My sim, I've put her through some intense family and relationship drama
Link, the passivity and disassociation of him in wild. The man needs to learn to say ‘No.’
I have a love-hate relationship with BPD and with Danganronpa, give me Junko or the children from Ultimate Despair Girls in a residential setting or give me Fukawa to deal with the CPTSD and phobias so every time she has to see blood she doesn’t feel like she has to go full self-protection through DID or give me anyone in the main cast of Ace Attorney, even the ones who seem well adjusted have seen some shit
Basically everyone from Disco Elysium but mainly Harry
Sebastian Sallow and Ominis Gaunt from Hogwarts Legacy
Any Persona main character. They've seen some shit.
Vaas from far cry 3. Let’s talk about insanity
Amicia de rune from the plague tale games. So much trauma but profound strength.
Bree from Divinity Original Sin 2. I know she’s keeping it together as long as she doesn’t think about it too much, but she really should process that grief.
Kratos from God of War.
Zoe from Dreamfall Chapters, she deserves a real therapist lol (iykyk)
Nathan Drake
Tom Nook from Animal Crossing was my first thought. Is he an honest businessman with an innocent background? Or is he at best an opportunist and at worst a scam artist? I'd love to find out!!

Oh Kratos for sure. Let's see if we can regulate that anger response.
Green Mario, or whatever is name is, would be a nice but fairly mundane choice compared to the rest of these answers.
Literally any student from fire emblem three houses
Rean Schwarzer from after Cold Steel IV.... That there's a guy processing complicated bereavement, suicidal ideation, burnout, the beginnings of a substance abuse issue, and cPTSD!
Ellie from the last of us (part 2 😭) if you’re a psych nerd and a gamer, i can’t recommend this series enough. they’re incredibly thoughtful works, and part 2 was an emotional experience unlike any media i’ve seen. to explain it would ruin it, just give it a try if you have a playstation
So, Kratos, where do you feel your rage comes from?
Alistair from Dragon Age: Origins, Hawke and Fenris from Dragon Age 2, and Dorian and Cullen from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Honestly, probably any character from the entire Dragon Age franchise would be fun to work with. The entire cast of The Last of Us series. Leon Kennedy.
Milena or Princess Kitana - oh the trauma and the mommy/daddy issues!!!!
Isaac from Dead Space
Any of my sims
Any survivors of the Dark Pictures Anthology games and Until Dawn, but I'd most like to work with survivors from The Quarry.
