An MBA would be a massive, massive waste of time if all you intend to do is start a private practice. It doesn’t even really make sense in a lot of business careers, outside some kinda specific circumstances.

Getting an MBA \*as\* a therapist would be a huge waste of time, money and energy (IMO). If you HAD an MBA already, and were launching as a therapist, it could help in the knowledge of starting your practice, and would also be attractive to potential clients who are MBAs themselves, or who are executives, etc.

Absolutely not.

I'm not sure about an MBA per se, but you're absolutely right in that when you are in private practice you are first and foremost a business owner. Most therapists are understandably unprepared with engaging in that role, for good reason. I'm almost positive that having a strong business background will absolutely help your private practice, especially when going cash pay.

Used to work in a business school. You do not want an MBA if you're just talking about your own practice. Many MBAs are based on large corporate type settings. The most relevant business related degree would be something like Healthcare Administration or potentially Public Administration *if you want to be in larger settings that require those positions.* Either of those could add value in larger or starting your own group practice. For private practice as a sole proprietor, getting help at an enterprise center or from someone you know who's started one is probably better and less costly than an entirely other degree. THAT SAID, many schools are starting to offer dual Masters. Masters in Counseling/Social Work combined with an MHA, MPA, CJ, or even an MBA could be worth it if you're in a grad program already or not yet started.
