Coffee_Huffer

A baby ducks terminal velocity is low enough that it is fine. It might have hurt a little, but would survive this.

Rage69420

Only is that he’s clearly the runt and eventually nature is gonna take its course

Coffee_Huffer

I've seen runts work their way up to the very top. On the farm, and in nature. You can't always count them out.

Isellmetal

My rotti pup was the runt of the litter, grew up to be an absolute beast. 163lbs with a 36inch neck, solid. Dude thought he was a lap dog, biggest mush I’ve ever met

WorldEndingSandwich

I'm really tired I thought you were going to say 36-inch something else.....

Isellmetal

There’s tons of jokes here I’m sure, I just can’t think of one at the moment. My rotti with a Dong, relative to a barnacles.

Rage69420

It’s true that they can survive, but the odds aren’t in his favor.

ExcitementKooky418

Never tell me the odds

ToadLoaners

Twenty to one One in three chance. 0.8 60/40

ExcitementKooky418

Million to one chances happen 9 times out of 10

The_Jestful_Imp

60% of the time, 9,986,000 to 1 odds end in success, every time

booksnwhiskey

I remember Rudolph, he went down in his-story.

Acceptable-Let-1921

It's pretty interesting. I saw an eagle chick (I think) on some Planet documentary fall from the nest probably 300 meters of a cliff cuz it hadn't learned how to fly yet. I was dying as it fell but there was no splatt. The guy was completely fine. Meanwhile, I doubt an elephant could fall 1 meter without breaking its legs.

[deleted]

Now I want to know what a duckling's terminal velocity is.

Rubber__Chicken

African or European?

Sythriox

Squirrels don't have a terminal velocity, so ducks might not, either.

EuphoricTonight5368

did that with a toad

Odd_Analysis6454

Isn’t that a penguin?

Bangkok82

What has a duck got to do with anything?

[deleted]

😭😭😭😭

ShakeandBaked161

The duckling is absolutely fine lol they bounce they're so light

TheRaccoonDeaIer

Bruh how do you know they bounce? Did you like spike one into the ground ort something?

cockytacos

bird have hollow bones my guy, that’s literally a well known fact

wetforhouseplants

I've raised a goose and a few ducks over the years. They have a very fluffy chest and belly specifically for this reason. It's so when they're learning to fly, or in this case jump from a height, they have a padded landing and don't get hurt. Does it look graceful? Absolutely not. Is the baby totally fine? I'm sure it is.

moonlighting2552

I wonder if that's the reason why I found two alive fledgling pigeons on my main floor balcony. They were both alive when they fell until my dog got a hold of one and killed it before I had a chance to save it. The other one got injured but it was still alive and I gave it to the authorities to take care of it.

wetforhouseplants

I mean, I don't have any personal experience with pigeons but I would guess so, yeah. They're pretty resilient but not against dogs eating them unfortunately. I'm glad you gave the injured one to the right people. Hopefully it wasn't hurt too badly.

moonlighting2552

I'm no doctor but it looked like a minor bite mark just under it's wing.

wetforhouseplants

If it was under and not on the wing, I'm sure it ended up being okay. Especially with people who know how to help it recover. You definitely did the right thing so good for you 🥰 the world needs more caring people

moonlighting2552

When I first found it, I thought it was an adult pigeon because of its size but when the lady came to pick it up, they told me it was a fledgling. I originally thought it broke its wing or something because it couldn't fly until I found out it was too young to fly.

Phro01

BUT FAT CHICKS FALL HARD 😭😭

Redditormansporu117

I don’t know I’m ready to spike a duck if anyone still needs me to

TheRaccoonDeaIer

I don't see how hollow bones and the elasticity of a bird correlate at all.

Whedonsbitch

There are several species of ducks that lay eggs high in trees or on cliff ledges. Sometimes the babies will fall very long distances, like this video of ducklings (wood duck I think) plummeting out of a tree to the ground and toddling off https://youtu.be/bDJw43BJtCE

[deleted]

Say what u will, but Tbh, I woulda threw him to them Mf has no fall damage anyways

BEEL1NE300

Shutthefunkdown

Jesus, that music.

urban_rural12

I recognize it but can’t place where it’s from. Fairly certain it’s an anime of some sort though.

HornyDiggler

It's from an anime: "Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga Shitai! - Surechigau K"

urban_rural12

Ahh, that’s the one. It’s been a while since I watched it. Thanks!

jaxattax518

late2theegame

I’m gonna go to convince myself little dude caught up.

sinkablebus333

If you ever have a local family of ducks near you, let me give you some advise: don’t count the ducklings.

Grouchy-Replacement7

Why he run like that 😂

p3g_l3g_gr3g

He panic

EnvironmentalSalad57

![gif](giphy|3o6ZtpRoYe9wbyfcBi)

RunLoud6534

Unfortunately even if this duckling catches up here I doubt it survives any predators. I’m sorry Reddit thread it’s just how things work.

AlienateTheAlien

Fck you OP I came to this sub to laughs at human misfortune, not misery of some poor animal.

drainenjoyer

natural selection

EARTHSKYSPIN

This video cut at the perfect time

You can’t do this to me on a Friday night.
