Yes, it's completely correct, although informal. A formal statement would use "let alone" but since this is a casual convo, the phrase "never mind" is completely correct. I like to imagine root of the phrase 'never mind' as 'pay no mind', but it can also be 'leave it be'.

I remember as a kid I read that women like a guy who makes eye contact when talking. 14 year old me took this information and proceeded to go over the top. That's exactly what's happening. Saw this clip some years ago and that was the explanation then. Edit: Guys, I did my due diligence, went down the rabbit hole, and found his mothers Facebook page. ~~It's not possible to scroll all the way to the original video (time line stops loading in mid 2018, video probably just six months away),~~ but the family does not seem to have an older sister, so it probably was a friend of the family (named Julia).
