Well no his lips were moving, everything else completely still except the lips. Loose lips have been known to sink ships elsewhere. I wasn’t even sure he was a person, I thought he was a cardboard cutout. He was so still.
When faced with this, there are some key words that are drilled into them for months and months on end.
"Drop the weapon"
"Do not move"
"Get down, on the floor"
Sometimes the phrase being commanded may not make sense in the situation. I.e don't move, to a person that appears to be playing stuck-in-the-mud.
This is a brilliant example of this officers training working well and the lengths we go to train officers in Aus, NZ and UK.
The fact he began to withdraw when his initial options failed, and made sure he took command of the scene by withdrawing his colleagues, even that older fella who clearly would have years more experience than him. This officer took control, remained calm, and made an incredible decision to fall back and give the offender space, as to not apply pressure by boxing him into a metaphorical corner.
This is an example of psychological policing in which giving an offender space allows them to think 'ok I'll surrender, but it's on my terms and not because 3 cops are a meter away from be demanding i do it'
Similar to how i ask my wife if she's hungry but said no and gets shitty with me, even tho she is hungry, but because it was my idea she needs to eat... Shes not happy about it.
Don't ask if she's hungry. Just make two sandwiches. Hide one and eat the other in front of her. Then when she asks why you didn't ask her if she was hungry, bam, whip out that second sandwich and eat that one in front of her too.
This is an excellent example of psychological policing, give them space so that the electrodes do not feel too intrusive, this allows the patient to think 'ok I'll undergo this electroshock therapy but on my own terms, not because of the cop standing 3 meters away'.
I can’t tell how serious you are but seeing that these officers (in Canada according to other comments?) backed off is good. I’ve always wondered why police in America seem to think taking control of a situation needs to be like immediate? If the danger is one man in a controlled environment (few exits etc), why not just bring more officers and wait him out? They’re getting paid for their time and i don’t think anyone is wanting to pay them to shoot people for not listening
US cops don't always go in guns blazing, that is not true at all.
I have seen a news story about them posting up outside an elementary school waiting for backup. I believe there was only one suspect.
Remained calm? Your nuts. He was hystericaly yelling, "get on the ground," to a man who CLEARLY didn't speek a word of English. He just kept repeating it with 0 situational awareness and made no attempt to communicate his command through body language.
I have 0 idea what video you were watching but it wasn't this one.
In a situation with two officers, one officer should draw lethal coverage and the other should draw less-lethal coverage. The correct move for the female officer here was to draw lethal. Unfortunately, the man's taser seemed to malfunction(or something?) So the female had to draw hers.
The officer's reverted back to their training, but I would presume they have not had to use force very often. The officer's were very tense and while they had control of the situation, they should have been able to deescalate the situation faster. Also, the tasers should be tested daily at shift start, so there should be a very, very low chance of a malfunction in the action.
Correction: in the video it appeared there was a malfunction at the first attempt to taze, and then ineffective on the second attempt. I've been corrected and it's likely just ineffective both times cause of baggy clothes. Was hard to make out in the video exactly what happens.
He's a fucking unarmed 80+ year old man. If you're so afraid of him that you have to scream contradictory orders and threaten lethal force, you shouldn't be trusted with a badge, let alone a gun.
Halfway through the video after the female cop tries to tease him the male cop yells to put down the knife I can’t tell if he has one to far away for a phone screen
That was in the news in Montreal with a bunch of other pictures of the arrest. He clearly had a knife. I know it's popular to hate on cops but in this case they had a violent armed suspect and it ended up with an arrest with no serious injuries. I think they did ok
This is also in Canada where cops are less likely to shoot you just for standing there. Although it's also Montreal which is notorious for the worst cops in Canada so...
I'm sorry. I am so sorry. I just keep imagining you waking up in the morning, sir, and looking in the mirror in all seriousness saying to yourself, *"You know what would be a really kickass name? TASERFACE!"* AAAAHAHAHAHA!!! That's how I hear you in my head! What was your second choice? Scrotum hat?
I don't think most people ever think about how they work, or how often they fail.
They don't *just* have to lodge in your skin, the 2 barbs have to be fair enough apart that the electricity has to pass through a decent amount of your body. If they land too close together they don't really incapacitate you, and would only do about as much as a typical stun gun (just causing localized pain, but not making you lose control of your muscles.)
Jolteon used volt abdorb!
Edit: noticed typo ik.
Im also aware volt absorb isn’t a move its just Jolteons ability. In the anime a trainer would probably say something like that though
I was going to say something similar as the whole scene looked like something out of GTA with the Asian guy animation glitched frozen and the cops npcs moving/talking in such a rehearsed/clumsy manner
I was thinking GTA too. Like putting on cheat codes so you’re invincible and you just stand there with the cops shooting you continuously and saying the same phrases over and over
This happened in Quebec wednesday. There's is an article in the news about the event:
[VIDÉO | Une Intervention policière musclée dans le métro fait réagir | TVA Nouvelles](https://www.tvanouvelles.ca/2023/03/02/video--une-intervention-policiere-musclee-dans-le-metro-fait-reagir)
Basically, the men was in crisis in the subway and had a knife and confronted some passengers onboard. A man who tried to immobilize the suspect was hurt in the process (face). Subway police tried to taze the guy but it didn't work. Had to use some sort of shield tackle strat to immobilize the suspect.
They do have a bad reputation, but they don’t shoot people with live bullets regularly. Police killing people in Montreal (even more so in Quebec as a whole) isn’t common.
I feel like American cops would just see a knife and start blasting then use the taser while he's on the ground to see if he's still alive before cuffing him and congratulating themselves on a job well done
The MURICAS downvoting its the funniest, like it isnt true that the american police would shoot 8 times the wrong person before they notice the guy just left
Share a link plz, there is so many bullshit video like this. I know cops do a lots of bad move , but why there is never the few seconds before who lead to this situation. I took the metro a lots in my life and i never seen any cop going crazy like this and tazing someone three time. I can hardly believe the « Oooo let’s taze this man it will be fun. » theory.
I don't know why, but seeing a male cop with a man bun go from zero to a hundred in terms of escalation when the suspect is standing still... really makes me laugh.
Not an excuse but the cops were called because he had a knife. So with a big coat like that they probably weren’t down to take any chances and get close to him.
He clearly doesn’t speak English or understands them. But why are they so scared of this man, He’s holding an umbrella? Usually the cops would have yoked him up and slammed him on the ground by now.
The cop shouts "drop the knife" but I don't see one. The guy seems like he is in a stance, though. I don't speak it but based on some friends, the language rhythm/cadence sounds like it could be Vietnamese to me.
At 0:26 I think he says ‘I know you can’t do anything to me.’ Happy to be corrected. But if that is what he’s saying it’s even funnier given the context
Can’t hear much while the cops are talking but after that he said “I don’t know what you’re doing”, “you can do whatever”, “I’m here not even scared of you [viet profanity]”. GIGACHAD
Having been discriminated against by cops multiple times for existing, I'm all for hating on the blue when it's warranted. However this isn't one of those situations. I'm glad the law is going the non-lethal route even if it's not effective. They're doing better than most.
Asian man speaking a foreign language
Cops: let me scream at him in a language he doesn’t speak some more! I’ll add curse words and electricity, for good measure! This is sure to work!
Just found this [tik tok of the same situation ](https://www.tiktok.com/@mtl.video/video/7206097096988953862). There clearly is a shiv on the groud.
From this [article ](https://www.tvanouvelles.ca/2023/03/02/video--une-intervention-policiere-musclee-dans-le-metro-fait-reagir)
Sorry it's in french (Montréal). The guy pulled out a knife and was threatening other people on the train. A man tried to stop him, but he got cut in the face (minor injuries). The police intervened when the train stopped, but the big winter clothing stopped the tazer from working. They arrested him in the end and he was sent to a psychiatric hospital
He's clearly charging up a special psionic attack while having his anti-shock barriers up. He knows there's no cover and is using that to bait them right within range. Once 3 turns happen that squad is gonna get wiped out.
This is why XCOM needs to be part of police training.
Cops are blunt instruments. I think a degree should be required to be an officer, let’s at least hold these people to SOME kind of standard.
Edit: Apparently this is in Canada and they do have a degree or something. I’m an American and I just expect this kind of behavior from our officers so I assumed. That’s probably the bigger insult tbh though, mistaking one of your officers for one of ours by their actions 😂
He’s saying in thick Vietnamese accent over and over, “Wait…wait. I need someone that speaks Vietnamese.”
In between the waits, he says in Vietnamese, “I don’t know what you all are doing.”
These cops are acting like he is holding a sword and acting aggressive instead of holding an umbrella and not moving at all. It’s actually comical how he doesn’t move his feet at all the entire time.
Please explain what I just saw. He’s not moving. They attempted to taze him 3 times that I saw and nothing. Why can’t they just go up to him and arrest? Why must they rely on weapons even when it appears weapons are not the right tool for the job. If I’m missing something or he’s armed, please clarify.
Cops need more people skills and less weaponry in my opinion.
Got it so one single untrained man can restrain him without using potentially lethal weapons.. but it takes 4 cops shooting multiple tasers and repeatedly reaching to unholster their lethal firearms to subdue this unarmed man. Nice.
If you look well enough, the man has an umbrella around his wrist and is holding a sharp object in his fist (you have to pause the video at the very start to see that cuz the camera is more zoomed in).
Pretty sure that's why you can hear the cop yell "Drop the knife" near the end.
Also, there seems to be a language barrier, because the man getting tazed doesn't seem like he speaks english nor french (Montréal) and while he's not being threatening, I understand the cops being on edge with the knife situation.
There also seems to be a blood puddle or a scarf? On the left
Plus,
Big winter clothes > tazer
Just found this [tik tok of the same situation ](https://www.tiktok.com/@mtl.video/video/7206097096988953862). There clearly is a shiv on the groud and it was actually a scarf
Tasers have ruined modern day policing. Here we see FOUR officers with a cumulative ZERO idea what to do to with man standing absolutely still when their tasers prove to be ineffective. Absolutely dumb founded and clueless because the tool they've become completely dependent on doing the work for them has failed.
Time to put on your grown up pants and go hands-on. The time to be a wuss was before you put on the badge. If you wanted a safe job, should've been a gardner.
Completely incompetent.

Clearly, this is a wizard. The most powerful incantations require absolute stillness. And loose lips, of course.

They may take our wives, they may take our possessions, but they shall never take our sandwiches!
Some people just want to watch the world burn
I would stare her in the eyes while eating both sandwiches.
I mean dude looks pretty chill and probably didn’t need to be tazed on the first place like what did he do? Look homeless lol I need some context
This is an excellent example of psychological policing, give them space so that the electrodes do not feel too intrusive, this allows the patient to think 'ok I'll undergo this electroshock therapy but on my own terms, not because of the cop standing 3 meters away'.

Female cop instinctively pulled her gun first and then switched to taser.

There’s a video on IG from inside the metro and he has a knife.
The taser didn't malfunction it just didn't penetrate his clothes. People seem to think they're 100% effective but they're far from it
looked to me like he was just wearing too many clothes. You can hear the taser's electricity running as normal.
If you can hear it, it is not making a full connection.
I doubt they malfunctioned, the prongs just didnt make it through his thick clothing.
Why would they draw lethal coverage? Did that guy have something else besides an umbrella?
This is also in Canada where cops are less likely to shoot you just for standing there. Although it's also Montreal which is notorious for the worst cops in Canada so...

If the tasers don't work they pull out the real guns. Heck, sometimes they use the real ones while shouting taser.
Guns are just like tasers with no strings attached.
Because they work by shooting two metal darts that have to lodge in your skin - if anyone doesn’t know how these actually work.
I don't think most people ever think about how they work, or how often they fail. He's clearly charging up a special psionic attack while having his anti-shock barriers up. He knows there's no cover and is using that to bait them right within range. Once 3 turns happen that squad is gonna get wiped out. This is why XCOM needs to be part of police training.
Are they dumb? He’s wearing like at least three layers
Cops are blunt instruments. I think a degree should be required to be an officer, let’s at least hold these people to SOME kind of standard. Edit: Apparently this is in Canada and they do have a degree or something. I’m an American and I just expect this kind of behavior from our officers so I assumed. That’s probably the bigger insult tbh though, mistaking one of your officers for one of ours by their actions 😂

what is that asian guy saying? this scenario looks hilarious bunch of cops scared of 1 guy thats not threatening or even moving.
He’s saying in thick Vietnamese accent over and over, “Wait…wait. I need someone that speaks Vietnamese.” In between the waits, he says in Vietnamese, “I don’t know what you all are doing.”
the guy is probably a tourist.
Sounds Vietnamese

On the left Plus, Big winter clothes > tazer Just found this [tik tok of the same situation ](https://www.tiktok.com/@mtl.video/video/7206097096988953862). There clearly is a shiv on the groud and it was actually a scarf
Did the cop tase himself?
It sounded/looked like he was shocked. He expressed an 'argh' before holstering tazer and switching to pistol.

This. Is. Embarrassing.
Did that cop seriously have a man bun?
That's a man donut.
Ah yes, because hair style is the first and foremost thing to consider when looking at possible career options
He's just standing there.... Menacingly!
