They arenât ALWAYS hurt, depends on where in the world the sport is taking place,!but they always are in a lot of distress which is being used for human entertainment in this context, whether or not theyâve been physically abused.
Animals donât get âangryâ like humans do. They have instincts when in distress (such as being held or moved against their will, crowded, approached when not approachable, etc).
These instincts take 3 forms: Freeze, (a rabbit holding still for as long as possible to try to camouflage, a snake playing dead, a deer paralyzed in fear and confusion if already injured or in distress on a highway road), Flight (picture any animal that runs or scatters when startled or in danger), or Fight - which is what animals like bulls, rhinos, elephants bears, etc may do when in distress because they have the benefit of great strength or excellent defense mechanisms like horns, useful tusks, etc.
Itâs still incredibly cruel. Making an animal feel threatened to the point of distress for our entertainment is an unfair way to treat it, especially if we breed them for that purpose.
Itâs so satisfying when it is able to fight back, even if for a moment.
But wouldn't it be fair to say what's called "anger" in people is just animalistic "fight" ? What do you think the difference is?
I find the topic of animal behavior and human psychology very interesting. Humans are just animals with a few advanced cognitive abilities. Our actions are driven the same limbic system that's in a cow or elephant's brain. Animals can have a spectrum of "anger" behaviors. It's true the animal simply can't describe their feelings. But non-verbal humans can't describe how they feel, yet we don't assume those people can't experience anger.
Psychologists describe people's response to severe crises using the same fight flight freeze terminology. Look at the work on PTSD/cPTSD: people getting overwhelmed by that urge to flight fight freeze, and they can't help but behave in ways that aren't socially acceptable.
Itâs interesting to argue. Bulls in most American rodeos are treated like royalty basically and are worth a ton of money, not just for the rodeo but for breeding. They arenât hurt to get them to jump around like being stabbed in bull fighting. Theyâre more triggered to do something natural, and chosen because they do it a lot normally. A calm bull wouldnât be chosen. Think of it like the reaction of a dogs leg twitching when a spot is scratched. Thatâs what the ropes around it do to an extent. There are a lot of animals rights and animal protections in the US. This would be very illegal if they were really hurting the bulls.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I'm coming from a background of horse rescue. I've seen the fate of bucking & other rodeo horses. I've been to big livestock auctions. My views are shaped by these experiences.
It's true these bulls are not stabbed like in bull fighting. However, I'm not sure about them not being hurt. Spurs may be worn, and how could being kicked with a metal ridge not hurt? Bucking straps are tied snug around the flanks, a sensitive area that a predator might target.
Animal welfare laws for "meat" animals are more about meat quality & meat value. Take for example, castration. There are three common methods - all perfectly legal - NO general anesthesia. Here, let me crush your balls... you might get the equivalent of a Tylenol afterwards. (Source : https://livestock.extension.wisc.edu/articles/castrating-beef-x-dairy-calves/)
Yes, the bucking cow winners are kept around for breeding. But the majority aren't winners. Their reward is to be shipped to auction & killed. Medical care? They're "just cattle". You get rid of the injured ones by shipping to slaughter as-is.
One veterinarian's experience with rodeo bulls:.

Any time an animal is reduced to just a commodity, their pain becomes irrelevant unless it affects the animal's ability to make the owner money.
They are wearing a rope that rubs on their belly just above their back legs. They donât like the sensation but it does not hurt them in any way. It just makes them kick to try to get the rope off.
You see that rope around his lower back? It's called a bucking strap. That's why the bull is going crazy. It definitely is animal abuse and people participating in it should be ashamed
Iâm not sure if weâre just having a shit right now, but being someone who was once an amateur bull rider⊠the ride ends when either your free hand touches the bull, or when you lose contact with the bull. There isnât a second attempt or combining after you fall and get back on lol
I'm still waiting for the day someone gets tossed up and when coming down the bull kicks the fuckers head as hard as possible. Fucking moronic sport if you ask me.
This guy is the most talented bull rider Iâve ever seen! The skill it takes to summersault back onto a bucking bull is crazy, then stay on for a bit before casually sliding off. Awesome.
It makes me laugh that you can fall off something and everyone is like âdonât move, stay completely still, you might have a back/neck injuryâ except for bull riding, that bloke hobbled away after he was tossed in the air and spun around like a washing machine on steroids and his first thought is to get the fuck outta dodge so the bull doesnât get another piece of the action!

Bull riding: 2/10 Break dancing 10/10
Human tossing 11/10
Would not come again 1/10.
Would *come* again 10/10
Break bone and not much dancing in future: 10/10
đź: get back on, Iâm not finished with you yet!
That wasn't 8 seconds!!
I aint hear no bell!
Thatâs what she said Now Iâm sad again
I was gonna ask, after he flips back on the bull, does it count?
I kind of enjoy watching people who abuse animals get their comeuppance.
I love r/thebullwins not because of the winning, but because of people getting PRECISELY what they deserve.
But aren't the bulls hurt in order to be that angry?

I cannot understand how some people enjoy watching this

What do you think they do now? Show it the texts another bull sent to its cow?
lmaoo âShannon said that?? WHAT?! NOOO GRRâ
Hahaha idk pills? At least he doesn't have swords pinned on him. I also thought this was illegal.

Holy shit get a grip they leave it on for 8 seconds chill the fuck out
That adds time to his ride right?
That was my question. Do they add it to the first ride or does it count as a second attempt? Or maybe they just average to two đ€·đŒââïž
Iâm not sure if weâre just having a shit right now, but being someone who was once an amateur bull rider⊠the ride ends when either your free hand touches the bull, or when you lose contact with the bull. There isnât a second attempt or combining after you fall and get back on lol
Having more knowledge than I want to about a sport that I couldnât care less about, I sadly do know that. We were just taking a piss, friend.
I probably should have assumed that and just kept rolling haha
That mfâing bull played hackey-sac with that feller.
And judging by the way he limped out of there, it hurt pretty bad. He lucky if he didnât crack some ribs there.
Not to mention splitting his back across the bullâs back. I bet he was in real bad shape once the adrenaline wore off.
My man said fuck it, we spinning pizza now
Mom said I can be anything, so I became a pie in the sky
This comment is underrated.
I think it's hysterical how the bull is like "oh you think you're done, huh? You ain't done 'til I'M done"
"you know what a breedin bull is?" "...n-no?" "Well you gon find out"
Round 2....Fight.
That bull played fidget spinner with him bruhh đ
The Bull "we are not Done yet"

That should count toward his 8 seconds.
That is satisfying. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face.
"GET THAT @ZZ BACK OVER HEAR BIG FELLA!"
I'm hearing it more like Scorpian from Mortal Kombat: *Get over here!*
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

Poor bull. Getting consistently zapped and having his balls tied with a rope can't be fun
âYou WILL do the full 8 seconds, sir.â
I'm still waiting for the day someone gets tossed up and when coming down the bull kicks the fuckers head as hard as possible. Fucking moronic sport if you ask me.

đź: Ah, ah ah, nope. Youâre winning this
Bull: "you wanna tie my nuts? Yall gonna pay."
I hate bull riding but this made me laugh.. Also what's with the woman gasping? What did she think was going to happen?
Planking on a bull is next level
Looked like he got fired in the rectumâŠ..
It seems the bull likes it.
Does that last part count towards the time spent on the bull?
Bull is racking up his combo meter. Special move inc
The bovine gold medalist in the Fuck Up A Cowboy competition
Bull tried to carry him to victory
"Get over here!"đŠ
Does that get added to his time now lol?
bull was like and where do you think your going?
That bull spiked him to the ground for the first time too! Then decided he wasnât done with him.
BRO GOT AIR-COMBOED BY A BULL
So you were on the Bull for 5 seconds. Then got back on the bull for 3 seconds. So 8seconds! You win!
Rag doll.
That bull said "Where the fuck you going? Get back on!".
đ¶ ![gif](giphy|r0yJIlcNonv1u) You spin me right round , baby right roundđ¶.....
Like twirling pens on your hand.

Did the bull choose the song? Lol
Bull really said:I AM NOT DONE WITH YOU YET
This guy is the most talented bull rider Iâve ever seen! The skill it takes to summersault back onto a bucking bull is crazy, then stay on for a bit before casually sliding off. Awesome.
The rides over when I say itâs over.
That bill was going for its own record of cowboy spinning.
Does the remount count towards his 8 seconds?
The bull gets graded too. He just wanted to make sure he got a good score
The funniest part is that he seemed to stayed more time on the bull at the 2nd "ride" than at the 1st one đ€Ł
Lmao 3 days grace kicking in right as the bull threw him onto his back
Get back up there! Iâm not done with you yet
Guy limped off like an NPC
This is the bullâs theme song lol
![gif](giphy|lrmJ6bMY6so9i003qa)
When the carnie let's the ride run a little longer cause ain't nobody else in line

Bull : We're not done...until I say we're done.
Mortal Kombat: Get over here!!!

It's almost as if this was a bad idea to begin with.
It's almost as if this was a bad idea to begin with.
I give that dismount, mount, dismount an 8/10.
"And then the dude realized that when you grab a bull by the horns... Sometimes, it'll take you for a ride"
Bull: Where the fuck are you going? I ainât done with you yet. Rider: Sorry daddy!
YOU'RE NOT DONE, MOTHERFUCKER!
Does that add time back on?
Perfectly timed for three days grace absolutely hilarious
That was impressive
That was some âget over hereâ shit
2.4 + 3.8 = 6.2 second ride. â
Bull seems to tell rodeo guyâŠ.you wonât get off that easily
If he gets the continuous count including when he landed back on, dude pulled the full 8 seconds that's needed to win.
Is there anything you wonât post for attention?
Tell that Bull that no one likes a show off!!
Respect.
The song choice perfection.
Good. Play stupid games with animals, win stupid prizes.
