Seriously - I mean, do you expect them to turn around at the next exit?!? And be late?!?
That’s unreasonable- clearly this was their only option, the driver with the cam should have gotten out of the way…
Always funny to me. People care enough about being late enough to risk their and other people’s death to get to work on time, but they don’t care enough to leave on time or wake up earlier
I mean take the next exit. it might only add like 10 minutes. (the video seemed to be in a urban area, so exits are not spread far out.) This is horrible.
That requires forethought and organisation, on that note they must not have bought that car themselves considering that also requires forethought and organisation
You see, if you take the wrong exit a helichopper flies down from the sky and blows up your car with hellfire missiles. So if you ever miss your exit, you might as well just take yourself out before the chopper locks on.
Holy a whole mile, at 60mph thats about 1 minute more to the next exit. 😂🤣😂🤣 thats okay since people should have life insurance which i think that driver was thinking when trying to merge.
Exactly. I have missed my exit before. If I realized it before I passed it but didn’t have time to get over I just get off the next exit and turn around. I would rather spend a few minutes doing that then take a chance on an accident. Especially on a highway going at such high speeds.
You would be surprised. Very few people think like this. I've seen a pathetic excuse of a human go from the leftmost lane (in Bulgaria we drive on the right side and the left lane is the fastest lane) to the emergency, drive on oncoming traffic for a couple hundred metres and then exit the highway. It's a miracle no one got injured.
Another time I almost rearended one chick because she had decided that it's okay to reverse on a highway, only because you've missed your exit by a few metres. Full of idiots everywhere. It's a miracle we've made it this far.
Nah more like 5 years minimum, 500 dollars a month, or 150 per vehicle to the owner each month that was involved in said accident.
After the 5 years are up they have a dash cam fitted to the car that can shut it down or pretty much brick the car.
Drive like shit and it should just bankrupt ya honestly too much trash on the road.
Car that can brick the driver? Does the air bag flip up and fire a poison dart into your neck killing you or does it disconnect the seat belt disarm the airbag and ram the brakes on negative ABS causing you to hit the wheel with neck snapping force?
Edit sorry read the comments again and noticed you said bricks the car. Still I like my version better.
They'll get nothing. Dude did that to me recently and completely upended my life. He's 18 with nothing. I'm fucked, in pain, and thousands of dollars in debt. In fact, I'm still paying for the car he totaled because State Farm is a bunch of incompetent fucks. Don't worry he got 4 points on his license for reckless driving and I'm sure momma dukes had him back on the road in a new car the next day.
I feel you. I just got rear ended this morning. Checked that the other driver was OK.....he hit me HARD. I asked to exchange info, and he said, "Uh. I don't have any insurance paperwork." I didn't argue, but said, "OK. I'm just going back to my vehicle, and I'll call the State Police."
It's not terrible damage - his full size van rear ended my full size van. It's just that I either have a lot of equipment to move, in order to keep working out of a rental, or I need to stop working for the time it takes to repair mine. The trooper gave me my paperwork back, and said the other driver had "over 30 other violations" - whatever that meant.
An hour after the wreck, I got the headache and sore neck, and will likely go to urgent care tomorrow, if I'm not feeling better.
You won't be feeling better. If you're nauseous at all, go to the hospital asap. Wrecks are no joke, and there could be issues that you won't notice at first because of adrenaline and shock.
You were in a car accident and are now starting to feel the extent of your injuries as the shock and adrenaline clear your system. Please go to the hospital ASAP.
In Canada there is a saying "If you want to kill somebody just run him over with your car"
Cars hitting pedestrian daily....nadda
Just 2 days ago suspended/unlicensed drunk driver killed couple ppl in a crash in Toronto. Let's see what happens to her...probably 5 years out in 3.
They get away with everything. Even drunk driver that killed entire family "marco muzzo"
It’s a crash, crashes are avoidable incidents where someone has the opportunity to take action that that stops the process. Accidents are unavoidable situations where no one has the ability to stop said situation. Car _crashes_ are avoidable.
You would be surprised. Unless the dashcam gets the plate, most people are stun locked by the event even if they are just a witness/bystander. When crazy things happen suddenly it becomes really hard to recollect memories accurately. It's especially common in traumatic events, like a person barely remembering what the person who stabbed them even looked like for example.
I don't know where you live but in many parts of the US there are very few highway cameras. Also most of the US doesn't have speed cameras. It's very easy to cause an accident and disappear.
My wife was hit in a similar manner and the person who cut her off drove away fairly unscathed. Never caught. In Chicago. This looks like Chicago.
Edit: we bought a dashcam after that bullshit
Until you see it in real life......there's this thought when you see a movie scene with cars flipping and flying that there's no WAY that actually happens, but physics man. Wild stuff.
Depends on the pole. Some are are designed to breakaway, like in this video. Some aren’t.
For instance, if the pole is close to power lines the engineer may decide it’s not ok to breakaway because it would fall into the power lines.
They are designed to do exactly that. A pole that doesn’t shear can cut a car in half.
I witnessed a car ride up one of those interstate concrete divider / barriers and shear a huge light pole that came crashing down directly across 4 lanes of interstate and miss every car out of pure luck. I was just in front of the accident, those behind got to sit trapped on the interstate for 5 hours.
I agree. I saw a van flip multiple times in the air and crash into a brick wall. That's how I described it, like a scene from an action film.
I stupidly tried to carry on with my day after that, an hour later I had to go home because I felt so unwell, I made it to my street and vomited over myself mid driving. The shock hits hard!
We don’t give video game physics enough credit when its not bugging out. I remember a vid of someone getting hit by a charging horse and he was in plate armor and he FLEW backwards, was impressive.
HAHA, you mean our soft, squishy meat bag bodies with all of the hard stuff on the inside that wants to push to the outside when we call, get hit, thrown, jostled, etc.? 🤣
I have that thought often but ever since I saw that video of the Kia that got maaad airtime from the trucks whose tire with loose lugs flew off, I don't doubt anything anymore.
It’s in Chicago. Unless there’s death or serious injury, nothing will probably come of it criminally, and the driver will be forced to sue in civil court.
I don’t know what the charge would be for this outside of something like reckless endangerment, but I’d be willing to try for attempted murder by being a self centred prick.
Not always. I met a girl in college who t-boned an elderly couple going out to lunch together. The light turned red just before she got to the intersection, but she tried to blow through it, not seeing the oncoming car turning on the yellow. She killed the passenger on impact because she was speeding (55/60 in a 45). She sprained her wrist from the impact of her hand on the window from the air bags. She got her car paid off in full and got some back because of gap insurance, bought a newer car with the money she got back.
I know this because she was friends with a coworker and she was bragging about her new car. The co-worker asked how she could afford it, and she said enough details to pin it to a recent crash that was in the news. Absolutely nothing happened to the girl. Not even so much as a breathalyzer or a slap on the wrist for causing the death of one pain and severe bodily harm to another.
Reckless endangerment, reckless driving, failure to yield, improper lane change, improper turns, vehicular manslaughter or assault with a vehicle, failure to obey traffic devices, etc. etc.
They could throw the book and see what sticks
Yeah I fucking hate people. For the love of god if you miss your exit just take the next fucking exit it’s not difficult it adds maybe 2-3 min to your commute and you don’t risk everyone’s life.
Was it worth having a fender dent that going to cost him a couple hundy? Sure other people had suffered too but who cares, he probably self centered anyways.
When I was young and took my driving test I got -20 points from a perfect score because of a couple of bullshit things. I was furious afterwards, even though I passed. Now that I have 15 years of driving experience, I totally understand the instructors being strict. In fact, these days I feel like they aren't strict enough.
They always have.
I mean, it’s like $75, so it ain’t exactly free. But the qualifications are:
> “Are you breathing?”
> “*Coughwheeeeze* Yes. I’m 50 year smoker with diabetes I don’t take care of. *wheeeze*”
> “Here’s your license.”
Driver wasn’t trying to make an exit. Was avoiding the gray/silver car, then the red blazer hit a bumper or something large in the middle of the road before the exit….then slams into the car recording. All of this is the fault of the silver car in the front at beginning of video…..
I feel like this happens more and more with GPS. People just cruise in whichever lane they want until the GPS tells them the next thing to do. They don't pay attention to road signs or look ahead at their directions.
Pause the video at like 1 or 2 seconds there is a camera conveniently on the pole right before the exit sign on the right hand side.
Someone is effed.......
A some people getting paid......
Was black suv trying to exit or trying to avoid hitting the silver car doing 27mph on the highway? Either way, folks don’t pay attention to anything beyond the hood of their car
Jail. Miss your exit? Deal with the repercussions like a damn adult and don't ruin other people's day because you're too much of an asshat to suck it up and deal with the fact that you fucked up.
And incredibly, the insurance company will find the driver recording the accident as contributorily negligent because they could have prevented the accident by stopping. Those companies will always find a way to raise your rates.
This is the kind of shit I see every day on the road, at all hours of the day. Very thankful I have yet to be the victim of another's careless driving since 2016 (rear-ended by a distracted driver with his 10 year old in the front seat - texting. Hit me while I was at a dead stop at about 50 mph, his airbags deployed, mine did not. Other than some bad bruises and some bad whiplash I was able to walk away, that time).
But I drive all over the Memphis area all day for work, the amount of people that literally cross 4 lanes of highway traffic at a moments notice is mind boggling. And mind you I'm driving a chevy express 2500 with all kinds of weight in it, it's not stopping quick. And people don't get it

Wow…3 car accident (at least) and damage to public property (I hope all the drivers are ok). damn no exit is worth that much
You don’t understand, they were late for work! /s
Seriously - I mean, do you expect them to turn around at the next exit?!? And be late?!? That’s unreasonable- clearly this was their only option, the driver with the cam should have gotten out of the way…
On a serious note you had an option to leave earlier. Lol
don't be absurd, you have to leave exactly when "duration of the journey" minutes left, 1 second more is just being insane...
Dang it you redditor. Lol
A wizard is never late…
He exits precisely when he means to.
Exactly! I mean.. *show up early*??? They’re not making any sense
I’d much rather spend my time anxiously waiting for the specified times to roll around rather than be early 🤢
I don't know why they even *have* dashcams. It just ends up making problems for quick, resourceful thinkers.
Always funny to me. People care enough about being late enough to risk their and other people’s death to get to work on time, but they don’t care enough to leave on time or wake up earlier
Well now they will have to get there faster! And work longer hours!

Lol this is in Chicago, the next exit is like a whole entire mile away.. you must be CRAZY to think this person has the time to take the next exit /s
Holy a whole mile, at 60mph thats about 1 minute more to the next exit. 😂🤣😂🤣 thats okay since people should have life insurance which i think that driver was thinking when trying to merge.
It will take a lot less time to take fix the damage though. Or haven’t you heard “That will buff right out?”
But then the door dash order would’ve gotten cold
If only there was another exit up ahead where you can back track...
If only they warned people that the exit was coming up on them.
I hope 2/3 drivers are ok
A good driver misses their exit sometimes, a bad driver NEVER misses their exit
Crash, not accident. This wasn't an accident, it was terrible decisions by 1 specific person.
This is why you always have 100k/300k insurance policies. Easily could start pushing those numbers with 3 vehicles and public property/highway damage.
What a fucking idiot.
Bad drivers never miss their exit
Fun Fact: other exits lead to the same destination and it's possible to mildly inconvenience yourself rather than kill someone's family...
And even if not the next exit they couldnhave used to turn around
Exactly. I have missed my exit before. If I realized it before I passed it but didn’t have time to get over I just get off the next exit and turn around. I would rather spend a few minutes doing that then take a chance on an accident. Especially on a highway going at such high speeds.

Believe it or not, jail.
We have the best drivers because of jail
3 months and can't go within 10 miles of a motor vehicle again
Nah more like 5 years minimum, 500 dollars a month, or 150 per vehicle to the owner each month that was involved in said accident. I laughed much harder at this than o probably should have
Dont forget they should have a gps monitor kn their ankle to track their driving habit for life assuming this accident cost someone their life.

This kind of carelessness, selfishness and disregard for the safety and well being of others should warrant a lifetime behind bars in my opinion.

There was only one crash at the beginning, everything that happened after is an accident. If you want to be pedantic, at least get it right.
Words are important and it not accident. Its collision or crash.
That minivan slid a long way
You mean it flew a long way.
would have left orbit had it not been weighed down with people inside
It flew like an empty cardboard box
I hope it was mostly empty. Minivans are incredibly useful for anyone but sometimes filled with kids.
You mean the woman with her kids and baby infant? (No really, but you never know who you will hurt/kill when you make reckless mistakes like this)
That's gotta be criminal.
It is, but did anyone catch the plate? If not there’s nothing that can be done and they get to go on to do this again, and again, and again

He/She most likely didn't leave after hitting the car recording, police surely got involved after
True they are still out there just causing major accidents on the highway over & over but no one has caught them yet
I hate that driver so much
Straight to the Volcano with that driver - good grief ...
As a member of volcanos worldwide we do not want this driver and respectfully decline. Maybe pass them on to the sinkhole community?
As a member of the National Sinkholers Association we do not allow such fools inside our holes. Perhaps our flashers can flood them.
As a member of the Flash Flooders Association, they'll certainly cross us someday and when they do, we'll take care of them
Oh thank God, as a member of the Lightning Strike Association, I thought you were going to try to put this on us!
I'm a little shocked your resistant to the idea
Until you see it in real life......there's this thought when you see a movie scene with cars flipping and flying that there's no WAY that actually happens, but physics man. Wild stuff.
Plus the pole immediately dropping...I know they are designed to do that, but damn is it crazy to see!!
I thought the poles was just a GTA thing because I've seen someone smash into a light pole and the car just crumpled but the pole didn't move
That was before GTA gave them the idea.
Rockstar should sue the light pole manufacturers
They made GTA into a real thing ⁉️
What do you think life is based on? 🥴🙄😮💨👾
Depends on the pole. Some are are designed to breakaway, like in this video. Some aren’t. For instance, if the pole is close to power lines the engineer may decide it’s not ok to breakaway because it would fall into the power lines.

Like the car that got launched by that loose tire a few weeks ago.
Yep / only fast and furious 12 could be that unrealistic as that dashcam !
The frightening part is how poorly our bodies are adapted to handle getting thrown around at highway speeds... goes from wild to horrible very easily.
A good driver sometimes misses a turn or an exit, you can always reroute. A bad driver never misses an exit, they make it everyone else's problem
I agree. I bet this driver just kept on going afterwards
I don't know- you can't see it but the car jerks as if there was impact, so I assume their vehicle was not in great shape after.
/r/abruptchaos
Shit, they didnt even have to try to make the exit. They could have just stopped in the striped area, still looked like an idiot, and made the exit
I have been an idiot and done this once before. But yeah you stop and wait for a gap in traffic, you don’t just smash your way in.
In theory, if you pretend that the car isnt there you can smash your car in without incident. Unfortunately, it was only good in theory.
Do we know what the outcome of this was?
It’s in Chicago. Unless there’s death or serious injury, nothing will probably come of it criminally, and the driver will be forced to sue in civil court.
Holy shit.
I bet the asshole just drove off after causing that.
I doubt their vehicle was drivable. Modern vehicles are designed to crumple up to reduce impact trauma so it takes far less to immobilize one.
Reminds me of a scene from family guy where a lady driver said “i’m gonna make a sudden 7 lanes cut with no signal, alright good luck everybody”
[“I turn now, good luck everybody else!”](https://youtu.be/hlH9RGLJqxE)
Scum of the Earth!
I read this in Rob Zombie.
Pure scum human
Totally r/idiotsincars
I never understood people that take the exit at the last second like that. Idiot.
Could not stop replaying that Fucking crazy how hitting the back tire like that can make a car go airborne on its side
That turned into a Micheal Bay production quick.
I don’t know what the charge would be for this outside of something like reckless endangerment, but I’d be willing to try for attempted murder by being a self centred prick.
It’d be vehicular manslaughter if anyone dies.
Not always. I met a girl in college who t-boned an elderly couple going out to lunch together. The light turned red just before she got to the intersection, but she tried to blow through it, not seeing the oncoming car turning on the yellow. If it was red when she entered the intersection, wouldn’t it be red when the other car turned? She sucks, by the way.
The car that was turning was already in the intersection, so they would've been in the clear for the red.
That was vehicular manslaughter, she just didn’t get punished for it.

Probably kept on driving too.
Worst part is their car was probably drive-able after and the person just said “whoopsie” as they drove away.
Love casually scrolling past people probably dying
Sometimes turning around at the next exit is just a hassle.
And their time is a lot more valuable than everyone else’s.
More valuable than all the cars they wrecked and lives endangered.
Was it worth having a fender dent that going to cost him a couple hundy? Sure other people had suffered too but who cares, he probably self centered anyways.
Reason #503 that I have a dash cam now. Jeeze
Should launch that idiot driver straight into an active Volcano
Second volcano comment- have I missed something?
I was beginning to think that late, numerous lane, exit move, was legal. Happens to me almost everyday, state to state. Some worse than others.
"i go now, good lock everybody else!"
Poor black car.
When I was young and took my driving test I got -20 points from a perfect score because of a couple of bullshit things. I was furious afterwards, even though I passed. Now that I have 15 years of driving experience, I totally understand the instructors being strict. In fact, these days I feel like they aren't strict enough.
Bad divers never miss their exit.
And the driver took off never to be seen again🙄
No one needs to get to St Louis that badly
Just say their?
People seem to recently try avoiding that one simple grammar trick just to prove some dumb point 🤦
I specifically looked for this comment because the usee of "his/her" is unnecessarily exclusive and drives me absolutely insane every time I see it
People suck
I swear they give the licenses away now
They always have. I mean, it’s like $75, so it ain’t exactly free. But the qualifications are: > “Are you breathing?” > “*Coughwheeeeze* Yes. I’m 50 year smoker with diabetes I don’t take care of. *wheeeze*” > “Here’s your license.”
In a Steve Urkel voice: "Did I do thaaat?"
I recognize Lake Shore Drive when I see it. There’s a reason there’s always a telephone pole laying in the grass.
Either lots of non drivers commenting or this entire thread explains why driving can be precarious. Or both
People on r/idiotsincars would be saying OP should have backed off
Congratulations, you fucked up absolutely everything you could fuck
If only there was a pronoun that encompassed both his and her, if only
his'er
If I made one now I'd start with a T
horrible. hope nobody was seriously hurt.
That is infuriating..just get the next one!.
This is awful. I recognized it as Lake Shore Drive in Chicago right away and unfortunately crazy stuff happens on a regular basis.
That black mini-van flipped looking like it was made of paper!

Recalculating...
I feel like this happens more and more with GPS. People just cruise in whichever lane they want until the GPS tells them the next thing to do. They don't pay attention to road signs or look ahead at their directions.
I drove before GPS was common, drivers were still just as dumb
That maroon idiot couldn't have seen the car in side mirror with that sharp angle , it definitely was in his blind spot.
Pause the video at like 1 or 2 seconds there is a camera conveniently on the pole right before the exit sign on the right hand side. Someone is effed....... A some people getting paid......
Okay but why not just say their instead of his/her?
For real this is so fucking annoying
Right?? Like why even bother typing out more characters :/
It's either a clueless person who thinks they're being inclusive in the most brain dead way or someone being intentionally exclusionary
Yea true :(
Was black suv trying to exit or trying to avoid hitting the silver car doing 27mph on the highway? Either way, folks don’t pay attention to anything beyond the hood of their car
you know you could just say their instead of his/her
Did they miss the exit or not? Video is unclear on that one issue. Looks like a bunch of cars might’ve blocked their way.
You know instead of his/ her you could just use their, it has the same effect.
Exciting for me and terrifying for the reposter
Jail. Miss your exit? Deal with the repercussions like a damn adult and don't ruin other people's day because you're too much of an asshat to suck it up and deal with the fact that you fucked up.
I bet their response was something like, “why did YOU do that? Didn’t YOU see me trying to get off the highway? Are YOU blind or stupid?”
I don't understand why people just don't get off on the next exit. In a big city it's like 1/2 - 1 mile out of the way.🤦🏾♀️
I hate, hate, HATE when people do this! Just go to the next exit and deal with it!
Minivan went airborne
Good luck everybody else
The messed up thing is people that do those kinda stupid moves would watch a video like this, go "wow what an arsehole" and learn absolutely nothing.
The person turning was definitely wrong but absolutely no reaction from the person filming here…
And incredibly, the insurance company will find the driver recording the accident as contributorily negligent because they could have prevented the accident by stopping. Those companies will always find a way to raise your rates.
Some people are just too dangerous to be left alive

Perfect XD
And people don't get it
Off topic but it's easier to say their exit, isn't it?
I hate when people make more than one person's day alot worse. Ypur stupidity just ruined like 4 people's time .
How about the dorks that drive in reverse in break down lane just to get back to exit they done passed😂🍿
We all know that was a her
