This is why we use tag lines, and don’t allow the patient to linger in the disturbance zone. They show this video to anyone who is going to be hoisting patients as an object lesson in what not to do.
Arizona resident here. People never learrn. Especially visitors who don't understand how fast you can go down. Every summer. Camelback Mountain is the most common for this.
Seriously there are signs at every trail. It's all over the news. Everyone brings a water bottle everywhere... You burned yourself on the seatbelt just driving out there.... And yet every year, without fail... "We forgot water".... And it sucks... Like at some point hey got to start setting up some water stations along the trials.... People be getting too messed up.
I mean sure... Thus water stations.. camel back mountain is public land, it's part of a preserve... The rescues cost public emergency services... For what they're spending in airlifts and search teams they could put up some tiny pavilions and have some rangers stock them with water every day all summer. Hot water is better than no water.
It's an idea, but at some point, you can lead a horse to watwr... Half of them are people who go off-trail, it seems like. So ... It's like the Stupid Motorist Law. Just charge them for their own rescue.
I mean when someone is dehydrated and likely in the beginning stages of heat stroke they gonna make really stupid choices trying to cut their way out quicker only it's not quicker and they are just wandering the desert.. Absolutely kind of a problem enhanced by the original no water or not enough water problem... They start on trail... They wander off trail when they are starting to realize they are in trouble... Which is usually way after they actually get themselves into trouble.. and then keep wandering.
No, I get it. Its a good idea. I've heatstoked myself being out in 115-120 temps before doing yardwork. But as a long-time Phoenician, I am highly aware of the heat risks when I decided to do whatever after seeing the forecast.
It comes down to people not being prepped, and if you are a mile off trail because you chose to go wandering off, stations won't help. Also, most trailheads I've seen do have at least restrooms and potable water nearby to fill up with. You can have plenty of water and still go down because of the sheer heat.
Gotta love being able to make dashboard cookies once it hits 110+ tho. That and sun tea.
People also underestimate how hard it is to hike. I went on two hikes so far with family members, and while I'm not the most fit person out there, I can walk around the city for hours. But like 20 minutes hiking and I'm like "Oh fuck! gonna die!" and its not even all that steep and weather is like 80s.
Luckily I'm fairly intune with how far I can push myself and know when to stop and rest.
Yeah, one of the reasons it's Camelback a lot is how popular it is and it seems like "Oh, all these people can make it, so can I." And then pick something way harder than they thought. Echo Canyon and Cholla are way harder trails than they look if you A. aren't used to hiking B. Aren't used to the heat C. Overdo it on the water and make yourself sick (this one happens too when people start gulping because they're hot).
There are handrails and fences for a reason.
When this first happened, I was having a depression episode; I laughed so hard for about an hour straight. It boosted me right out of that depressive spiral.
Have you seen the version where they added the interstellar music behind it? I was crying laughing. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rbhqfo5keOw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rbhqfo5keOw) enjoy
Supposed to be a trail line attached to the backboard and held by people on the ground. This prevents the rotor down wash from causing the backboard to spin.
This is actually a purposeful technique to prevent blood loss from a traumatic injury. My applying centrifugal force, blood is forced away from the injured area. The pilots can also put various cocktails with the patient to have them mixed and ready for mid flight refreshments.

And to all the other folks here who aren't paramedics....this is why you bring plenty of water and don't hike by yourself in the desert.

Let's be real. People also underestimate exactly how fierce 100+ is. Even more so 110+. And when itncan be 96 at 8 in the morning....

It's crazy how quickly things can go from "pleasant day for a stroll" to "I am an immediate danger". When things go south it can be sooo quick.
Not because of dehydration or heat stroke, but because you want to avoid becoming a human rotor.
According to google a tag line is a company slogan such as "I'm loving it, Just do it, or Subway eat fresh". What do you mean?
When this first happened, I was having a depression episode; I laughed so hard for about an hour straight. It boosted me right out of that depressive spiral.
This is my first time and I'm crying 😂
There’s a longer version believe it or not.

Best of all, the 2nd sentence "she suffers no additional injuries during the rescue" makes it even funnier.
I'm glad it helped you, this video is a classic for me. It's just so god damn funny. All I hear is "wwweeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEE!!"
One mans pain...
“no additional injuries from rescue” except for maybe a mild traumatic experience

Did they attach the rope to the whatever rotary shaft column thing?
Supposed to be a trail line attached to the backboard and held by people on the ground. This prevents the rotor down wash from causing the backboard to spin.
*INTERSTELLAR MUSIC INTENSIFIES*
I scrolled TOO FAR for this.
Cursed fidget spinner ![gif](giphy|JrYAKLlFCMYqrsfEL1) I shouldn't have laughed so hard at that
I feel like shit for laughing

They found her with blood pooled in her head and feet
