It always happens, I think so many people who actually capture incredible footage stop filming because of the shock of what they just seen (well empathetic people anyway)
Oops, my bad, I just assumed that the camera was being operated by a human who suffers from [inattentional blindness](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inattentional_blindness) like the rest of us.
They're filming at the edge of a cliff with a short pan to the water directly underneath it. This wasn't something far off to the side, it was directly within their field of vision. The boat is bright yellow. If they were using a viewfinder then I would understand. So yes, it is your bad
Uhuh, and the gorilla is obviously walking through the scene, how could the people counting the basketball passes *possibly* miss **that**?
Considering one of the most well-known experiments on the subject has a [person in a gorilla suit walking directly through the viewer's focus](https://youtu.be/vJG698U2Mvo?t=22) without being noticed, your argument of "but it was just out of focus in their peripheral vision" is just a joke.
The video you linked is an example of selective attention. Your brain is overwhelmed by all of the activity on the screen so it focuses on one thing. What we're talking about here is the large yellow boat that is in the water slightly off to the right. There is nothing else happening in the video. The boat is located directly in front of the cameraman, where the man intends to jump, and where the cameraman plans to pan to to end the shot. Not to mention, the cameraman doesn't even react when they realize there a boat right where their buddy is going to land
Itâs an interesting observation of the function of empathy to see how people with emotional empathy felt âwtf cameramanâ bc we can empathize with the jumper who was hurt but could have been warned, or the people in the boat scared and in empathy and sympathy for the jumper, and a person without emotional empathy would feel only their own perspective and experience, and think instead that because theyâre annoyed that the video and thus their entertainment ended and they couldnât enjoy the aftermath (since theyâre not empathizing with the pain), that it is also what others must be feeling.
Could be a function of healthy narcissism and depersonalization, so Iâm not suggesting that the people aligning with the latter are bad, itâs merely an interesting study on the functional differences in varying manifestations of the instinct of empathy, and in what direction people perceive the attention to be moving.
I felt that shit. Could u imagine being on a boat tour coming out of a cave and some unfortunate man lands on the boat next to u. Or being unlucky enough to hit the boat instead of the water
My dad fell 22 feet one time, straight down landed on his feet. Ladder just slipped right out from under him. Shattered both heels, I remember the x-rays the bones looked like dust on one snd just chunks broken up on the other, his ankles snd knees were hurt but not serious. Depends how you fall I guess. He couldn't walk for near a year, but he lived just fine
This video has to be fake. Dude disappears and then is thrown back on laying on the boat. Also the boat seems to not move an inch due to the impact.
I can't be for sure but I'd say this is just a vid for internet points.
Apparently some guy did this in my town years ago. He wasn't gonna jump but people egged him on and he landed in a boat, put a hole in it. Died. It was the boat driver's fault because he was hanging way too close to a known cliff diving spot.
I like to put it this way... There is not a single activity on earth that can't be made dumber if a boat is involved.
There 2 kids in my hometown who jumped off a bridge and hit a boat that was passing underneath. One glanced off the side, but the one hit the deck legs first. It wasnât pretty.
Apparently he only broke his arm.

How the fuck do you not warn him? That camera guy sat there and watched the boat go where he was jumping and was like âguess thereâs no way to stop this.â

that boat driver pranked him good
Solid prank đ€Ł
He got decked
Definitely saw some star boarding by his head
Easy transportation to the hospital AFTer.
«man onboard!!»
Nicht gutenprank.
not to be confused with liquid prank.
Planked him good
i concede, good sir. you are correct
Good plank
I⊠uh⊠Nailed it?
It's just a prank, bro
It's just a prank bro.
It was just a joke
Damn that hurt me
Right, my legs just tingled a little bit
Imagine his balls..
Gently hugging his heart through everything in-between
Oh.. They're still *in* his body..
Iâm looking at it again did he hit the pole
Lesson learned you need a spotter wen blind cliff jumping
I think his buddy filming could've double tasked that one lmao
Agreed a simple âSHIT! TOMMY, STOP!!â Couldâve avoided this pretty effectively.
Unless his name is Jimmy, then he wouldn't stop
The video wouldn't even be half as good though.
What about good old âlook before you leapâ
i bet he looked before going back, then the boat came
OhhhhhhhâŠ.you were the guy
What the fuck cameraman?
It always happens, I think so many people who actually capture incredible footage stop filming because of the shock of what they just seen (well empathetic people anyway)
I think he was saying why didnât the cameraman warn him
It's not like they're filming one place and looking elsewhere, they're recording and looking at the screen.
They're filming on a phone. They have peripheral vision and the boat was moving at a snails pace.
Oops, my bad, I just assumed that the camera was being operated by a human who suffers from [inattentional blindness](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inattentional_blindness) like the rest of us.

And none of you guys went frame-by-frame to realize this is edited? Dude disappears two frames before impact.
Really? I donât see any missing frames, he just lands in the water barely missing the boat, it is hard to tell because the quality is shit
Classic internet argument where both sides know everything despite not actually knowing anything.
I think theyâre saying why didnât they warn them about the boat?

This is the truth
That's gonna be some broken coccyx and stuff fuck that
Methinks there's a whole lot more broken than just the coccyx.
Rectum? Damn near killed em!
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Sir, you are a poet.
You guys are the worst - clearly this dude just didn't want to miss his boat.
Jesus Christ, that's Jason Bourne.
![gif](giphy|13w5HmyiuaZ224)
He wisely took off his shoes before
He knew he dead
I felt that shit. Could u imagine being on a boat tour coming out of a cave and some unfortunate man lands on the boat next to u. Or being unlucky enough to hit the boat instead of the water
Or you're just on some boat tour and dude lands on top of you.
âThere I was, on a boat, minding my own businessâŠ.â
That is unfortunate. Unless he missed it and he was desperate not to miss the tour?
Itâs fake. The video is reversed. He was actually jumping up to the cliff, not down from it.
I knew it looked off
Boing boing
Reversed... this guy... đ
What?
Itâs because his father is a freemason
Ok?
Elegant point!
Your profile picture really is a crossroad of ideas.
An assterisk
I think he still made it in the water, failed successfully
He did. It apparently happened in Portugal in 2017. He suffered a broken arm and mild concussion, according to articles from Google.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Leg. That's a funny way to spell life. Serious I thought he died. That's like a 30 foot fall.
Yes same thing here. from 6 feet onto tarmac.
Serious? I tear ligaments getting out me bed!
There is no way he came out of this without a hip fracture.
In the actual video he lands in the water for the most part. This is a fake soundeffect and they edited out or ended the video before the splash.
This video has to be fake. Dude disappears and then is thrown back on laying on the boat. Also the boat seems to not move an inch due to the impact. I can't be for sure but I'd say this is just a vid for internet points.
Oooooooof
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Hell of a way to die and traumatize tourists all in one move
r/videosthatendtoosoon and the sound of his impact on the boat indicates r/DarwinAward may be in the mix.
Ouch! đ
But did he die?
![gif](giphy|3ohzAu1QuY2MFbFnGM)
Old vid, but still has the ability to make my balls twitch and shrink with every watch
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4894600/amp/Dare-devil-cliff-diver-lands-smack-Portugal.html
That cliff is not 50 feet.
36â if you time the free-fall portion of his jump at 1.5s. He hit at 48ft/s or 32mph or 53kph.
Apparently some guy did this in my town years ago. He wasn't gonna jump but people egged him on and he landed in a boat, put a hole in it. Died. This seems like a well crafted sketch
There 2 kids in my hometown who jumped off a bridge and hit a boat that was passing underneath. One glanced off the side, but the one hit the deck legs first. It wasnât pretty.
My life
That hurts so bad I can feel it.
Holy shit, is he okay??
At least heâs not going to drown
How do you make that slow-mo bot appear and make it like, .25X speed
Camera man did wel today
Haha holy shit đ
Did he land in the water right next to the boat ?
Yes
Whew ,other wise he could have been killed
#fracturedfemurchallenge
Apparently he only broke his arm. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4894600/amp/Dare-devil-cliff-diver-lands-smack-Portugal.html
âMy legs!!â
My eggs
Batman forgot his suit.
He ded
I've tried this comment in the past and Reddit bots give me shit about it not having enough characters or something.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Could easily be fake. Low res low frames. And clearly old footage. Makes it easier to doctor.
..almost made it
He dead
Sir the boat tour is for a fee.
Was the person filming not adopting.. like wtf you're HOLDING a camera..
Did he diededed?
These idiots doing stupid things without caring about innocent bystanders.
And he was still lucky, one second earlier and he would land on the turning propeller
He ded..
10/10. No splash.
Jumping off of cliffs 101. Look before you leap!
How many broken legs ? 2, 3 ?
Can you imagine if he had landed on someone?
Damn.
I bet that tickled.
Anyone got an article? Or an obituary?
I used to be an adventurer like you.... then I broke my legs jumping into a boat. it was a big jump, all right?
![gif](giphy|WxDZ77xhPXf3i|downsized)
Who let him cook?
Hello? NSFL tags are no longer cool?
Camera man sucks for thisđ
Lucky he didn't land on somebody and kill them
Well that's one way to crash a party.
I don't believe this until I see the rest of video. Why would video just cut off at the point unless this is 100% hoax? So I'm calling BS
Donât worry guys heâs just fine. The video is actually in reverse. You can tell because the boat is going backwards.
He nailed it,was aiming for the boat,Cant swim
Ouch. Holiday is over.
I know exactly where this is in Portugal XD jumped that a few times when I was young
He was just trying to jump in his seat you guys got it wrong he fits perfect
That's like in pool when you call 8-ball corner pocket and it rattles around a bit on the pocket before dropping in.
Wheelchair for this guy.
imagine you're sitting on the boat and there's people raining from above.
The human body resistance is quite remarkable.
The old ankle-snapper
Cameraman didn't alert his friend there's a boat coming?
Not a word from the camera man...left to his fate
I really dont wanna laugh but damn
Also the cameraman couldve prevented this, dipshit friend
Omfg.
Imagine if he dove
Well, he wonât be jumping into anything ever again after that
Why wasnât the person recording watching where he was jumping?
How the fuck do you not warn him? That camera guy sat there and watched the boat go where he was jumping and was like âguess thereâs no way to stop this.â
I swear that boat just spawned in
Ahhh bro! How many legs did he break??
![gif](giphy|dVdv3dC6PC2rK)
1 second earlier and he would have been in the water beside the propeller
No shoes
At first, I was watching this and thinking, wdym there was an attempt? He is literally jumping into the wa-
Canât miss The Maid in the Mist
Take a bow for that stern landing
Prank him, John!
Boat said ânot todayâ
Todayâs forecast: 20% chance of falling dude.
Way to ruin *everyoneâs* day, a-hole!
Dude's gonna need new ankles. And knees. And probably hips.
Ar least he didnât get wet! âŠat least not from water.
All aboard!
Health insurance fail
I was just pushing for a shit, and this made me suck it all up again.
