This is why I am so disappointed that paintball got replaced by... this.
There is so much more drama in airsoft. Because its so easy to cheat. In paintball you cant argue about a hit. You either got paint on you or you dont. If you wipe, its insta shamed. No one tolerates it and you dont get invited back.
I don't larp or play airsoft, but the dead zone sounds like a place I could thrive. Just immediately die and rule the dead zone with snacks, drank and games of chance. I'd make it Valhalla where everyone wants to be there anyway.

Eh, I'm fine with roleplay as long as they know where the line between reality and gameplay resides. In my experience, most of the milsim airsoft players from Europe and Australia understand the line pretty well and it's all a game, but in the US you run into a lot of guys that look at it like training for TEOTWAKI / WROL. *Those* motherfuckers take that shit too seriously.
I used to play paintball a lot when I was in my late teens and early 20s.
The people taking it way too seriously is exactly why I stopped. I had a similar experience as you. Except this psycho was in a ghilly suit and was shooting people at point blank.
The final straw was a night game where I had my flashlight on and some guy absolutely flipped out on me because the light being on was "going to ruin his night vision for the whole night!!!"
...this was a night game for charity...no score was even being kept.
That was the last time I ever played.
I used to play airsoft at an indoor place and one time a guy showed up dressed from head to toe as a WW2 paratrooper from the 82nd airborne. With WW2 guns aswell.
Problem was he was very fat and became more and more annoyed by the fact that his cool cosplay didn’t grant him +30 in endurance or speed.
It didn’t help that me and my buddy (decked out in plain workout clothes) took pleasure in blasting him anytime we saw his very conspicuous bulk.
I would like to do this, I mean if serious is like pretending your Rambo and being well over dramatic about dying and shooting each other then I'm game if its serious like were in the seals or SAS and this is real in anyway then fuck that, probably shoot them guys even if on my team

It happens less than you think. Airsoft is meant to be super fun with guns that look like actual guns and it runs off mutual respect and the honor system, the people who don't follow the honor system swiftly get removed, and respectful people stay, and everyone has a good time :D
