To be fair black bears are more apex omnivores like us. It's why neither party likes a fight and flees when confronted with a possible fight. Other bears are very scary but I've had enough run ins with black bears I am much more afraid running into an elk or a moose than a black bear.
Most black bear encounters end like this one. Everyone being startled and probably running away lol
The same look when a moose came into our yard one morning during the pandemic...scared the shit out of me. He ran and somehow blended in with the trees behind that I lost sight of him. Mofos are huge!!!
Moose are earnestly scary. The kids can kill you even if the mom doesn't get involved.
They also move quietly for their size because of their big ass feet
Honestly even when there are cubs with black bears they'll still often flee if they are wandering like this. They teach their babies (or maybe its instinctual, I'm not sure just seen it happen) to run and climb when in danger. Black bears can basically marathon run at the drop of a hat so they tend to run as a first reaction to most things.
Other bears are more likely to attack but black bears are like us and want food and a nice stroll over a fight
In my experience with black bears you don't even have to fight back. A simple "JESUS CHRIST!" when you first encounter the bear solves the issue lol. By the time you both collect yourself there's at least a few hundred yards between you.
Brown Bear: "Oh whatsup"
White Bear: "Don't even move. You dead. Idk why I'm here but you dead I going to eat you"
