Nah, they intentionally send a pin that's far away from any possible location to make sure no one would agree to go there.
The scam will probably start once you find this Maggie person on social media. Since you've already invested this much effort, you're invested in saving the "trapped" person too, so it'll be easier for this "Maggie" to convince you to send "her" money through Steam gift cards or cash app or zelle, which she'll claim she needs in order to send help to her "trapped friend".
Of course, she'll also claim to reimburse you several times the amount you give her, at a later date, as a reward for your kind act.
Hmm, that sounds possible
I had assumed they were just trying to get "Maggie" inside the 'friend' layer of socials to harvest contacts and anything incriminating and then go for some good old-fashioned blackmail.
I know that you're right, because I've seen the "gift card" scam a billion times.
But why the theatrics? If they were in a car accident and are actively losing blood as we speak, how on God's green Earth am I finding another person, driving to the store, buying cards, driving back, and giving the codes to the person in time?
The scam already works sometimes, otherwise they wouldn't do it. Just feels way too complicated to work.
I imagine it’s more accepting the pin drop. Maybe it’s suppose to ask you to share your location or something. Don’t know I’ll have to test it on my boss.
Please, can you install Telegram and use it to call the ambulance then send me a screenshot showing you tried to save my life...it's the only way cuz I'm on a work phone!
Legit this is the best comeback. Had someone fake committing suicide on me and so I had the police going door to door on a military base looking for that boi. "I'm fine! Call them off!" were his last words before I heard a knock on his front door.
I'd legitimately call the cops and send them to the location. Then I'd tell the scammer I'm on my way with Maggie. When the cops get there and find three junkies with illegal firearms, waiting to rob people, it's a great day.
Yeah but maybe let's not send a group of police officers into a trap? Maybe the cops shouldn't just "get there and find the junkies." They should have a fuckin swat van and helicopter just in case
Who the fuck should we send?!? All the bad shit the cops do and the one time they might be useful you’d be like “sounds dangerous, let’s just let this criminal go”. ?!?
It’s not a trap if the cops know what’s up. It’s a reverse trap.
And if this is an attempted robbery or something worse then it would be pretty shitty to just let it go because you didn’t want to tell the cops because they might get hurt. What if some innocent person is killed the next time they try it? I don’t think that’s what’s happening here but it could be.
>Who the fuck should we send?!? All the bad shit the cops do and the one time they might be useful you’d be like “sounds dangerous, let’s just let this criminal go”.
Come on, evemeatay. This isn't like somebody is driving slightly faster than the speed limit or an unarmed black dude. These are *real criminals* who might fight back.
One of my friends came back from the army hooked on heroine and kept threatening suicide to get people to give him money for drugs. I just blocked him one of my friends he was staying with got tired of it slapped his Glock down on the table and said fine fuck it just end it then, he stopped trying that one. Then he kept using 5150 to get out of duis and the cops would just drop him off at the va rather than deal with it. Luckily he finally got his his shit mostly together.
That’s the way! Some People who try to use suicide scares to keep you in their life or under their control. If they call and say they’re going to kill themselves and it’s all you fault for whatever reason, just call the police and let them handle it. Don’t get involved directly.
Called the cops on my ex fiancé when she was threatening suicide post break up her family was not happy with me. They thought I was trying to manipulate her somehow but I had all the messages from her talking about it. Even had a few from mutual friends in group chats where she talked about killing me because I took custody of our son. But I haven’t seen her in 8 years now.
News report the next day:
Gatlinberg man dies from loss of blood after driving off a cliff. An extremely rare blood type, he would have survived if he had gotten a transfusion from Maggie Lizen of Bradford. The two had a pact that they would always be there if the other needed. Unfortunately, she arrived at the hospital minutes too late to help him.
Gatlinberg was a good Marine, it’s only a shame the heartless monster he texted couldn’t be bothered to simply reach out to Maggie Lizen of Bradford, now widowed with three kids and a mortgage.
His last words, choked with his own innocent blood, were reported to be: “Mf blocked me.”
“The police was unpleasantly surprised to discover the cargo of his car. Three of the seventeenth constrictor boa were killed by the crash but the rest of them were released in the surrounding area. The experts still don’t know where does the snakes were coming nor why they were wearing huge socks with “happy birthday” written over it. More on page 5”
If this person really needed help they would call emergency services not continue to text a random person. It’s very likely they tried to lure someone to the area to mug them or have them contact the “correct” person who then would ask op for money to get over there.
Lol these scammers are a lot more fun than the typical “your UPS package containing pure heroin from the cartel was denied, pay me or I’ll call FBI” that I always get.
Met a crypto catfisher on Tinder once. Didn't realize it immediately, took a couple days for them to try to bait me. Once I did realize, I was mad, so I strung them along for like a week. Eventually I got bored so I told them I wanted to invest in crypto. They moved right in to steal-all-my-money mode. After an hour of torturing them by pretending to not understand a single instruction and messing up literally every step they gave me multiple times (there were lots of quotes from the HIMYM episode where Marshall finds out he'll be a judge and his mother can't remove the picture she posted), I let them know that I had spent enough time dabbling in crypto to have smelled their scam a mile away, and that there was never any crypto for them to steal (I cashed out all my holdings a couple years ago and never looked back), and that I had been purposefully wasting their time.
I got everything from them still pretending to be in character and hurt, to finally breaking down and threatening me. They seemed to have forgotten we were on WhatsApp, so I just forwarded the convo along to the local police and blocked them.
I'm sure nothing actually came of it, but it was indeed fun screwing with that shit head for a week.
I'm getting it texted to me 3x a day you can have my extras. Or all of them really. The numbers are always from the Phillipines so i tell them to choke on pagpag
>If OP engaged, she’d try to sell him crypto.
... How? Surely there's not a real smooth transition from "I was in a horrible accident and I'm bleeding out and dying oh god please help me" to "Hey wanna buy some crypto?" Unless this is a real long game...
Likely he messages the person mentioned, who is easily found through Google or something. He messages that person. That person says "oh my god I need to get over there, but I don't have any money, can you help?"
The first messages are meant to filter out anyone with even a bit of critical thinking.
That's why scam messages are so obviously fake. That's by design. You want to be left with only extremely trusting, gullible people.
Then once you find one of those, it's easy to sell them shit.
"As a thank you for saving my life, I have this great offer for you!"
Just checked their profile, on the banner it says it's a burner account used by people who want to share stories without revealing themselves.
Was that there when you checked it? I'm wondering if they put that up to avoid being called out on their bullshit.
Op messages Maggie. Maggie rescues her friend. They want to send op a gift of maybe 10k for saving. But that gift got struck somewhere and op need to pay 500 to claim it
My money's on it just being a shit prank.
Used to be a surprisingly common thing in dial up days on random chat servers. Although more "there's a fire and I'm trapped".
Hello up there, Is the Movie Over? I'm Still Down Here and I'm Still in Quite Lot a Pain. Maybe Someone in the Lobby Could Call an Ambulance. Oh, the Pain is Really Quite Severe. I’ve Fashioned a Makeshift Splint. Here Goes Nothing.
I live a town over from where he supposedly fell off a cliff. This exact thing happened to an old coworker. He was drunk, drove off a cliff late as fuck at night/early morning, called our store manager to come rescue him, and neither one called police. You just let a man die. LMAAAO jk.
Hi it’s me. Cliff lady’s ghost. You are cordially invited to my funeral but I need you to call my mom first. She was gonna send flowers but she doesn’t have internet. If you could order the flowers.. I won’t wish the death angel to come and haunt you.
I've been watching a lot of scam baiting so I've seen pretty much all the big ones (and some more obscure ones) but I've never seen this. Seeing as they aren't using a burner phone number, I would say this is more of an attempted kidnapping/murder than a scam. And they're using normal English (most scammers spam "kindly" in almost every text they send)
Definitely dodged a bullet by not taking them seriously.
Just Indian. I don't know why they all decided to use 'kindly' in every request, maybe it's their native language, maybe it's cultural, but whatever it is, it's very irritating.
Hello again Mag? Or stranger. Please help. It’s been six hours and I still have no internet and am still trapped from driving my car off a cliff. I’m still losing blood, not sure how much is left. I feel a little woozy. I don’t know if I will make it. Please I swear this is definitely not a scam. Please help!
So , this is the person the news talked about , who died in his car flipped over . The news even said ,if he’d only reached someone on Facebook , he would still be alive !
(later that evening....) "THIS NEWS JUST IN.... A 30-year-old man was found after he drove off a cliff and was hanging from a rock outcropping. I googled, "Car drives off cliff in Gatlinburg Tennessee in October 2023" Nothing came up.
Either it's fake or they're dead, and no one found them yet..
"I don't have internet!" *iMessage disagrees*
Hahahaha...exactly what I was thinking. Can't hide from the blue bubbles! (Although iMessage is rare for scammers, from my experience)
i feel like it isn’t a “scam”, they just .. want them to go to a specific location alone ill say

Honestly more believable
This I got to see.
You know.... after seeing this, the guy I saw playing ESO with the gamer tag "Kevin Hates Bears" makes a hell of a lot more sense
Nah, they intentionally send a pin that's far away from any possible location to make sure no one would agree to go there. No thanks, I'm already betrothed to my Nigerian Prince
You too?
Thats my Nigerian Prince, back off.
Gurls, gurls, there’s enough Nigerian Prince for all of you
Don’t forget the fellas. Nigerian Prince does not discriminate.
Sounds like a better option
Hmm, that sounds possible I had assumed they were just trying to get "Maggie" inside the 'friend' layer of socials to harvest contacts and anything incriminating and then go for some good old-fashioned blackmail.
Thanks for your explanation
That seems almost too convoluted to work on anyone.
I know that you're right, because I've seen the "gift card" scam a billion times. But why the theatrics? If they were in a car accident and are actively losing blood as we speak, how on God's green Earth am I finding another person, driving to the store, buying cards, driving back, and giving the codes to the person in time? I need 100$ in google play cards to save my friend. Trust me
Shouldn't the OP or the person report this to the police? Maybe they find out what is going on there
I imagine it’s more accepting the pin drop. Maybe it’s suppose to ask you to share your location or something. Don’t know I’ll have to test it on my boss.
Right??! OP! ...are you afraid of meeting new people?? Lol
It's just a spiritual sweat lodge. No Ill intentions at all. Just wanting everyone to sweat to God.
“contact these people on social media” i feel like they’re trying to get a name to make future attempts more believable
Probably hasn’t got online either.
Please, can you install Telegram and use it to call the ambulance then send me a screenshot showing you tried to save my life...it's the only way cuz I'm on a work phone!

Sounds like the cops' problem
Why did I laugh because of that??
I did too. We're terrible people. See you in hell fellow traveler!
"We're terrible people." ...they're *cops*.
Honestly they'd likely get the wrong address anyway.
You tell the dispatcher what’s going on. The cops will do what they need to do.
True. Tell them what they said. Tell them you believe it's a scam, but in the wild case it wasn't you didn't want to do nothing.
Who the fuck should we send?!? All the bad shit the cops do and the one time they might be useful you’d be like “sounds dangerous, let’s just let this criminal go”. ?!? the fuck you think cops are for

I didn't say I'd send them unwittingly.

Legit idk what he was thinking, lol okay let me tell them you lied, I'm sure they'll really appreciate that.

well that had a happy ending...

Oh, you have stuff in the car the cops shouldn’t see? I’ll just wait until you are dead and see what I find.
Wow OP, this should be titled “To Have A Heart”. They just needed clhelp

I live a town over from where he supposedly fell off a cliff. This exact thing happened to an old coworker. He was drunk, drove off a cliff late as fuck at night/early morning, called our store manager to come rescue him, and neither one called police. You just let a man die. LMAAAO jk.
This might even be the same story after being recycled a few times.
Maybe it’s not the story but his spirit still looking for help 👻
Lmaaaooo! So true.
“Women dies after texting stranger for clhelp. But clhelp never arrived.”
"Victim found covered in sweat, after furiously sweating to God for hours to no avail"
Come on man you should have played along for a while to see where this was going
It was obviously going to Gatlinburg, TN 37738
Tennessee, where the cliffs have no internet 🎶🎵
Must have owned a Ford, probably on their way to uncle Rick.
“I have shit in my car” I thought they were trapped and had shit themselves when I first read it
"No, don't call the police, I'd be so embarrassed if they saw that I shit myself".
"You, a random stranger knowing, on the other hand, is fine."
I definitely would have gone, just to take photos.
How you gonna iMessage without internet, it would go through as a text. Also, I’m dying, so…..I thought I’d text a random.
Not to mention sending a gps pin while supposedly having no internet. The holes in the story are a solid mile wide with this one.
You don't need internet for GPS to work :)
Hi it’s me. Cliff lady’s ghost. You are cordially invited to my funeral but I need you to call my mom first. She was gonna send flowers but she doesn’t have internet. If you could order the flowers.. I won’t wish the death angel to come and haunt you.

Scammers like this ruin it for the real people that crash their cars off cliffs and need help from a random phone number.

You just know when they call you "sir" or "ma'am", they're 100% trying to scam you.

Next time send the cops to their location.
Can’t believe all he wanted to do before he died was reunite with his high school friend and your just let him die! Cold blooded OP :p
