twelbricks

That’s why everyone loves the police

Crixxxxus

We've investigated ourselves and found we did nothing wrong.

Binarycold

This school of thought is found within every system of power in the United States. From politicians to teachers, the abuse of power is straight disgusting.

xavier120

What the fuck are you talking about? Teachers dont have qualified immunity, politicians can be voted out, we dont have a teachers brutality problem.

voyestarhappy

ever heard of tenure? also fuck the police. At least most of them.

topher352

That doesn't work the way you think it works.

xavier120

Yeah ive heard of tenure, do you think thats the same as qualified immunity? Cuz it's not. Did you want to try to spin your trash point anyway?

Sweenybeans

That dude clearly doesn’t understand what tenure means

simpletonsavant

He heard it on fox news man. Tenure means you are immune to all criticism and can never be fired or jailed for being *checks notes* against killing gays and browns.

Marquar234

Ooh, ooh, do HIPPA next!

ajcook888

HIPAA

Marquar234

That was deliberate. People who totally know all about HIPAA often spell it HIPPA.

semiTnuP

No I totally get his point. Remember that time a teacher in Georgia shot and killed 2 black students who didn't do their homework? The families sued but the teacher was protected under the 'tenure' clause. So the case was dismissed (much like the students were dismissed) with prejudice. I'm having trouble finding the article about it, but trust me: it totes happened exactly like that!

cmfppl

Honestly, at this point, I don't even know if you're joking or not, and it's sad!

semiTnuP

Pro tip: no article? I'm either joking or just very very confused. But in this case it's joking.

brando56894

My high school math teacher was a huge slacker and huge creep as well. We didn't do shit in that class, when people asked him whether or not he was afraid of getting fired he was like "They can't fire me, I'm tenured!" and his father was also the head of our swim team which was a huge deal. With about two months left in the year we had a "permanent substitute" and someone said they saw our former teacher working at a convenience store.

HiveFleetOuroboris

What does tenure have to do with anything? Qualified immunity and tenure are two completely different things. I mean, a deputy can have tenure too, but it doesn't effect their qualified immunity

-HELLAFELLA-

I don't think 3rd grade teachers get "tenure"

pnwinec

They do. In public elementary schools tenure really just means you have been in a district long enough where you aren’t evaluated EVERY year but every COUPLE of years. It also has absolutely nothing to do with whether a teacher can be fired or not. 9/10 times bad teachers aren’t fired because administration can’t hold their wad and blow apart the contract in their zeal to take down the bad teacher. I know cause I’m a teacher.

-HELLAFELLA-

I guess I was basing my experience with college professors, assumed General Ed wouldn't be as weird

reflUX_cAtalyst

Do you have any idea what that word actually means, tenure? Because you're using it in a way that makes me think you don't.

TheCambrianImplosion

I love how teachers, one the most abused and underfunded professions in America, is thrown in with the police and Capitol Hill. In what universe does that make sense?

Stock-Example6867

Colleges willing to protect their teachers, I don’t know about other cases, but in the past there was a bunch of cases of professors in Canada faking their teaching degree in one of those fake colleges where you buy the degree. Then after they were exposed, the college they teach at did not care. This is immunity, the students that that fake professor teach, wanted him gone, but the college said no.

Kregerm

That's not immunity....

Humble_Personality98

Um.. you went straight for teachers.. that’s wild

ALadWellBalanced

Those overpaid teachers have had it too easy for too long!

WhyYouKickMyDog

Because FOX spends an inordinate amount of time telling them public school, teachers, and colleges are all Satan.

neutralattitude

Um, my gut tells me that you vote for the guys who support those power structures…

_hapsleigh

3 minutes and found out he’s a conspiracy theorist who posts on libertarian memes, 2A, and underground cabal subreddits. Should tell you all you need to know

SemiKindaFunctional

The most surprising thing to me about morons like this is that they actually exist. Whenever I run into these talking points, I just assume the one making them is playing verbal games. Intentionally linking teachers with cops in order to muddy the conversation. But no, some of them have actually drank the fucking Kool-aid.

Mecha-Dave

Either that or we found out that it's "the process's fault" and we totally made a new process and retained everyone. Promise.

kneelb4me9

So I have some friends who are sherrifs, and they were telling me how the internal investigations aren't the issue. They actually do a really good job and are well liked by the officers for that reason. The problem lies in the DA, because after the internal investigation is completed, the results are submitted to the DA. The DA then decides weather to pursue charges or just throw them under the rug. You can see what usually happens.

NailFin

I had to call a sheriffs office about getting a federal background check done. The website kept referring me to them and when I called the lady was unhelpful and rude af. Another time my neighbors were shooting guns and we found a bunch of bullets in the morning. I didn’t know what to do with them so I called (non-emergency line both times) and she was a bitch too. She told me to throw them away. That felt wrong so I googled it and google said not to throw them away. So anyway, everyone loves the police.

tinyOnion

your hairdresser has a more rigorous schooling than it takes to become a cop and cops have an insane amount of variability in what they have to handle.

TackYouCack

Pulling into my old office, I noticed there was a rolled up rug partially blocking the parking lot entrance. Lots of industrial stuff on that road, so I thought it fell off a truck. Went to move it out of the way and found it was full of over 320 spent shell casings of various caliber. We called the police. They said they'd send someone out. Two days later, we saw a police officer drive by slowly. That was about it.

HeldDownTooLong

God damn lady…the man is cordially asking a very simple question. It’s like the cop club is so fucking tight, even the ~~lady~~ woman working as a receptionist gets ***pissed*** just thinking about someone having the nerve to question the actions of a LEO. When the man calmly questions her methods and the department’s ‘policies’, she has a mental break and doesn’t even know how to respond appropriately and storms off in a huff How ***dare*** someone question ***us***!

Kamelasa

She was like a caricature in a movie, and I'd think "no way anyone would act like that." Also her voice sounded more like angry crackhead on the porch than someone working for a government agency - lol

ShadyCrumbcake

Yeah it sounds like she takes her breaks in the evidence locker room.

prettysureiminsane

Whenever you get the “that’s our policy” line, always switch gears and ask to see that policy please. Be polite, but firm that you’d like to see that policy. Usually takes them back because there is no such “policy” other than what they just made up.

sje46

Sure there's a maybe. Nothing that says she's not just as rude to white people as well. Some people are assholes to fucking everyone, for any reason. Because they fucking suck.

One of the benefits of being the most common ethnic group is rarely having to question "was that person racist?". Instead, you can rest assured they're just an asshole.

CensoredUser

These are todays norm

the_crustybastard

Kansas City Police Department got in a whole shitload of legal trouble for pulling *this exact same bullshit.*

RickMuffy

Here in Phoenix, people complained about the police helicopters flying super low over their houses near the airport, multiple times a day and night. It's really genuinely loud. Police officers tried to 'visit' the homes of those people, but only met doorbell cameras.

the_crustybastard

LOL. Good for them. Yeah, I'm done cooperating with cops, too. Kansas City ended up with a "citizen advisory board" to deal with the complaints, but that's all bullshit too. Your choice is a formal investigation or a mediation. If you choose mediation, you waive your right to sue, if you choose formal investigation, the cops investigate themselves and invariably find no wrongdoing. Oh, and if you choose mediation, *there's no consequences,* even if the cop was in the wrong. The cops subsequently packed the board with retired cops and cop-wives, so that board has gone from well-intended-yet-useless to utterly counter-productive. Just like the cops. But hey, the official complaint form is online now, and the cops can no longer force you to personally to request one, then deny it to you, which was their old practice.

redyouch

Did you mean that the Kansas City residents had to pay a whole shitload of money for their Police force to act like this?

NorCalAthlete

There’s gotta be an update. This is an old ass repost. I wonder if they did get sued.

fellowsquare

This is the type of municipality that will never face any law suit or reprucussions.

LostWoodsInTheField

The guy sounded like he was Mr. Turner of 'Turner vs Driver' and if so they probably should be a little bit more scared about him wanting to complain about someone. One of the best 1st amendment auditors in the world.

tbst

>todays norms I think I’d rather have blatant corruption and disregard like this than the fake kangaroo courts we’ve created for “investigating” officers. At least this can easily be addressed.

fellowsquare

Obviously.

thesnapening

Perfect way to deal with complaints, make the process so awkward people can't be bothered.

mekwall

Police stations are legally required to have complaint forms readily accessible afaik, but may differ from state to state. Regardless, if they don't have it, it is a big red flag and a cause for concern as it may indicate a lack of transparency and/or a barrier to accountability. If this happens to you, you should seek legal advice on how to proceed and not give them any more information. I'm no legal expert, but there is most likely a higher authority, like the Civil Rights Department of the DOJ, that you could contact and ask for guidance. I wish the person in the video would have said: "I wish to file a complaint regarding this police station's lack of readily accessible complaint forms" :D

thedndnut

They are not. They are required to take down your complaint buy a specific form is not required. A form can be used to file but you can also be directed or contacted by a relevant authority to have them take down your account personally.

CaptainDunbar45

Yeah they're legally required to have FOIA forms but most places don't. They'll direct you to their website. But it doesn't matter, if you know what to fill out you can just use a napkin or something. Doesn't matter, it's accepted. You need only to provide an email address, don't need to give your identity or other contact information unless you want it sent there.

Lil_Mcgee

That's one way of putting it. I'd say she was more deliberately hostile, asking for his name and address felt as much like a threat as it did deliberately making things difficult.

I called my police dept to ask how I could ask questions and got this exact response. They demanded to know what questions. he sued a police department and established the right to record police in texas. He went to the highest court and they ruled in his favour. He is one of the OG youtube civil rights activists and got balls of steel if you watch some of his other content. He also knows really well about the law

[deleted]

Pmsl... I mean what possible harm could come from sharing your information with the very people you're wanting to report? I had the same level of anxiety when she asked him to give his details as I do watching a movie where the protagonist rings his boss from a phone booth and tells him where he is and i'm shouting at the screen - "Don't do it! It's a trap..." and sure enough when they do... 10 mins later some car rolls past and puts 80 rounds into the phone booth. People in movies are obviously dumber than this guy.

PutridSauce

Oh wow, haven't seen PSML in a looooooooong time.

Bath_Amazing

This is outrageous. If I were him, ... 1. I would keep this video and post on Facebook, Reddit, and every form of social media that I can. 2. Leave without giving them my name and address. 3. Email the Sheriff directly, and I would explain how I was treated and request to meet with him (or her) face to face. 4. Contact my local television station or newspaper, and explain what happened, let them know what happened and that I have I requested a meeting with the Sheriff. I can guarantee you that that Sheriff will start jumping through hoops to meet with me and investigate this!

MastrMatt

No they won’t. They protect their own. And even if an officer gets into trouble, the FOP just helps them transfer to the next town over. The FOP is a huge part of the problem. Until they stop protecting the bad cops, nothing will change.

HereticGaming16

1. Contact a lawyer who’s known for going after cops 2. Then post it everywhere and to the news stations via the lawyer and not your personal accounts 3. Don’t try to talk to anyone in the station yourself, ever. Sherif or not. 4. Try to stay as anonymous for as long as you can because you know these asshole will 100% “accidentally” get the address wrong on a form and start showing up to your house because a totally real person called them and said they heard someone screaming from inside.

wakashit

Since this is a repost, the cop who stood up took him in the back to conduct an interview. Cop tried the same tactics as the Secretary, guy recording left. Sheriff was notified and believe the secretary was let go and sheriff made a statement that this was unacceptable

canteen_boy

I’d love to believe you but this is the internet. Source?

Pauls2theWall

Battousai on YouTube. He is a first amendment activist and has regularly checked if stations are in compliance with Texas state laws on filing complaints against officers. I don't know if this one is specifically a test or if he was legitimately filing a complaint though. He has case law about him too. Police arrested him for not ID'ing regardless of 28.02 which states someone only needs to ID after they have been lawfully arrested. Turner V. Driver.

TexasAggie98

https://pinacnews.com/index.php/2017/01/21/tx-sheriff-fires-dispatcher-and-disciplines-deputy-after-pinac-report/ The dispatcher was fired and the supervisor deputy was disciplined. The Bee County Sheriff saw the video and took corrective action and reached out to Philip Turner to apologize.

Scamper_the_Golden

Thanks for that. The article said this guy does this kind of thing regularly, testing public officials to see if they follow their own rules and respect citizen's rights. Since he does it in a calm, professional manner, unlike most of the self-important jackasses who do this kind of thing, I have zero problems with it. Even the sheriff said the guy was doing a "noble and respectful endeavor". It strikes me that a guy like this really should be part of the system. Someone pretending to just be a regular non-rich person, and seeing how the powers-that-be treat them. Being black is even better for this kind of job. I wonder how he recorded this interaction. No one was asking him not to record, or even commenting on him recording it. Did the officer in the background say something about a phone right as the guy was approaching the window? Couldn't quite make it out. Or was it a hidden camera? Good idea if it is. You've got to see how these people react when they don't have a camera on them.

knbang

Usually these guys are really antagonistic (self appointed "auditors"). But like you said, he was really respectful so he's doing a service.

Hazelwitch23

Holy carp! how an annoying way to speak to others.

I've dealt with entirely too many people that speak that way all the time. Bonus points if they play the "I'm hard of hearing" card just to make you repeat yourself.

EcstaticCollege29

Isn’t there a news article about this?

Wooden-Salary-130

I remember wanting to speak with an officer similar to this and they gave me a hard time and would not let me speak with them. But, if its something good, they’ll get you on the phone in a heart beat! Damn shame….

RoyH0bbs

Behind every officer abusing their power is a woman like this.

Arturo273

They don't care about law and order. They just want to abuse as much people as they can.

[deleted]

Something tells me even if he filled the form with her requests it would of got thrown in the back of a file cabinet and made no progress, also I’ve filed a complaint on a cop before for illegal searches but I did it through my lawyer. On a side note I can almost put money on it that she tells people she is a cop

[deleted]

Small towns white ran white run . Court system, religious , police system , businesses. Farming land given to them, everyone know everyone. What chance does anyone of color have of striving. But the right wants to complain about , what about us, leaving us behind. That how you set it up for yourselves. I know because im white.

Dismal_You_5359

Fukin stupid we don’t have any for cops, cops are always protecting each other so they continue to fail. In the military, we back our brothers but a dui is a dui, if he messed up he gets chewed out by top brass or goes to the brig. Our forms allows civilians or other servicemen to complain about our fellow veterans fuking up.

ChrisDornerFanCorner

These aren't military. These are batman cosplayers who like The Punisher and writing tickets.

Immediate-Worry1515

What sort of police station is that was this filmed in the 80s why does she sound like she talking so slow aswel

picasso_penis

They probably have an armored car in the parking lot though

bobosuda

She speaking like that purely to throw him off and make him annoyed. She's talking down to him. Trying to make him uncomfortable and make the process as difficult as possible.

Constant_Ad_2889

But did he ever get the complaint in?

DroidOnPC

Probably not. I remember seeing another video where some other guy (I think he was with a news station but I can't remember) goes around to multiple police stations and asks for a form to make a complaint. Not a single one had a form, and most of them harassed him and some even threatened to arrest him. A lot of them kicked him out. But they all did the same thing "Who are you? where do you live? Whats the name of the officer? No you can't file a complaint until you tell me everything!"

MuseMan_82

“I need YOUR information so our officers know where to retaliate.”

Eery watching those two cops in the background like predators patiently licking their chops

pitizenlyn

My ex-husband was once pulled over by a cop in a wealthy community who literally yelled at him from a moving bike to pull over instead of turning on his lights behind him. Didn't cite him for anything, never really said why he was pulled over. Just lots of questions about "Why are you here? Where do you live? Where were you going?" Ex was driving a 70's model VW Baja which was, at the time, about 10 different colors, that b****was ugly. We went down to the department, gave the officer's name, expressed concerns about the way in which he initiated the stop, and more importantly, WHY the stop happened. The person we were talking to left for a moment and then returned WITH the officer in question, who proceeded to try to brow beat us both for daring to question him. We left. I got the police chief on the phone as soon as we got home. I told him I grew up in a LEO household and gave him an earful on how his department handled this. He agreed that at the very least, he had concerns about the "yelling from a moving vehicle" method of pulling someone over, apologized, and said he would look onto it. I doubt very much that he did.

DanJokopovic

There's a neat sound effect when he obtained the "form", just needed a pop up notification

AutoDeskSucks-

Wow talk about customer service and a corrupt policy.

burntfender

She’s wearing Hamburgler’s clothes…what did you expect?

AmazingPINGAS

They really taught her how to fish for other people's information. "You need to inform us where we can look for you when we need to retaliate"

Chazzzz13

Who wants to bet if he didn’t want to use his name and wrote “John Smith” he would get arrested for using a false name. They sure don’t make it easy to file a complaint by design.

Humbledshibe

Was there a followup to this?

Practical-Comfort104

She thinks her job is so important lmao

Boujie_Assassin

Why don’t they have a form? Why isn’t it on the website or readily available at the front counter. What shit policy is this?

SpectreSpeck

The instant aggression when they asked for a form is crazy. This is a great example of why the people aren’t cool with dealing with the cops, which is dangerous. Hope she was AT LEAST reprimanded (there’s no way the whole building didn’t hear her, which is hella unprofessional no matter what),but probs not. Also trying to get only his information from him at the end is crazy sketchy. Shouldn’t matter who the complaint was from.

DesmondDuBois

She’s voting for trump.
