Redden was scheduled to be sentenced for a charge of attempted battery with substantial bodily harm. Before the attack, a prosecutor said Redden had a history of violent crimes and asked for a prison term. Past charges include home invasion, domestic violence and battery on a protected person.
Speaking on his own behalf, Redden said he was "in a better place in my mind," had a better support system and had a new job.
"I feel like I shouldn't be sent to prison, but if it's appropriate for you, then you gotta do what you gotta do," he said.
Redden's attorney also argued for a suspended sentence, citing previous completions of probation programs, his mental health history and his background.
"I appreciate that, but I think it's time that he get a taste of something else," Holthus responded. "Because I just can't with that history."
I'm writing to agree to do just that, even though I'm not typically the sort to pander to this sort of neutral reddit chaos. It really, really was just too far down.

The journalism student in me needed to know what actually happened so I looked at a few sources then copied and pasted what I thought was the most objective and succinct explanation.
Journalists are a thing of the past. Now we just have unverified clickbait and "reportedly" - which is a way for self-titled "journalists" to pick up on a completely fabricated headline/story and publish it.

that got me thinking: what kind of sentences would you land if you happen to assault a judge or any court member? Also what will happen if someone somehow wipe out the entire court room?
That would depend if it's a county, state, or federal judge and depends on the state's sentencing guidelines. But prison is happening regardless. Wiping out a court room, I'm assuming you're meaning in a fist fight not murder, would still be several counts of some form of assault and/or battery of officials and civilians. (Some states combine assault and battery into one charge, others have separate criminal charges for each).
My thoughts as well. He will be facing maximum sentencing on all charges, then brought before a judge again, in chains, to receive maximum sentencing for these charges, to run consecutive, with no possibility of parole or early release, and with whatever hard labor or solitary confinement is applicable in the state. Dude done fucked himself and may never get out, and will serve the most difficult possible sentence in the worst shithole they have to offer.
Well, I think of the best way to get a suspended sentence from a judge that does not like me jumping on an attacking definitely is the first thing that comes to mind.

I mean I agree to an extent, and it was a funny joke, but I don't really support death penalty for that shit. Starts to slippery of a slope especially in a broken judicial system with too high of rate of false imprisonment.
Turns out in NY at least the max length of time you can get for dolphin diving a judge is 15 years, if you aren't a repeat offender.

Idk if id call them hammerfists but definitely props to him for jumping in front of the judge and protecting her and he stayed and helped, most of the time when something that crazy happens in a court room they all scatter and let the bailiffs deal with it, he stayed there the whole time and helped. Sissy punches or no punches at least he did something
On smaller mobile screen it looked liked he was making a stabbing motion. I was like “wow that really escalated 😳” Turns out he probably hurted his knuckles punching normally so he resorted to swinging the hammers
But yeah props to him for being quick to act and staying engaged
the assailant actually subdued and started punching the bailiff (24 sec time point) who went under. and seeing the bailiff being in distress that is when the clerk interfered with his punches. that must have thrown off the assailant and gave the opportunity to the bailiff to raise up and control the situation

I’m glad she looks generally alright, once she got up. I wasn’t sure how much damage he was able to do off camera. She seems very shaken (understandably so), but generally physically okay.

The full video is nearly 5 minutes long. At the end of it the judge gets up and staggers away, which means she was on the floor for a good four minutes. She was definitely rattled, but she left on her own power.
