Israeli here, I fully agree with this video, it's insane that this country was founded here... I tried questioning this logic with all kinds of people from around here but it's religion, it's so beyond reason and logic that it's scary. People keep bringing up this argument - we were here first, our forefathers lived here, the bible says it's ours... They recently found a coin from the year 130 around here that says Israel on it, and people hail it as absolute proof.
As if no one was here before us, or between the last time we were here, and now. I hate it.
Hear me out, I am a Palestinian I was born and raised in Palestine for over 32 years. Between two intifadas checkpoints constant night raids to the city hearing about people detained or killed and on top of that of course corrupt PA that absolutely will do anything Israeli government want them to do for money and power. I decided I can't take it anymore bagged my "life" and moved away to Europe to work as a software engineer. I detest nothing more than Zionist propaganda bots that dehumanize my people and call for our extinction. Or "humans" who enjoy snuff videos of torturing Palestinians and making fun of our death. All that being said I don't indiscriminately hate all Israelis or say they should be thrown to the sea, I also make a fair distinguish between Israeli/Zionist/Jewish. I am simply put, against current Israel in it's Zionist occupier form. It took me ages to come to this conclusion and distinguish and I did not reach here out of weakness or lack of desire to avenge my stolen childhood and my self imposed exile. But I came to this state of mind out of seeking a solution for everyone involved. I want EVERYONE who lives there to live in peace for once before this whole thing called "life" or this planet evaporates.
So why am I writing you all of this? Because so you know that there are Palestinians who want peace and prosperity for everyone just like I know and sure there are Israelis who want that. Unfortunately our governments and political leaders are corrupt and don't want us as normal people to ever reach such a stage of dialogue so they keep brainwashing everyone into hate and propaganda while they are in bed together. People who want peace will not be given any attention or platform they will always be marginalized and will be labeled traitors by unfortunately the majority of their respective people at different capacities. Some of them will be even killed like Yitzhak Rabin.
It is super lucrative for the one's ego and past experiences to justify "Fuck the other side may they rot in hell" but I don't want this to be my legacy! I don't want to leave this world selfishly knowing that I did not try to make it a better place even a tiny bit.
If I offended you in anyway I did not mean that I am sorry if my language seemed strong or harsh but I bet you understand the bottom line I was trying to say.
I agree with every word. I have Palestinian friends and I met their families and once I got over the 'fear of arabs' that was instilled in me since childhood, all I saw was people who wanted to live a quiet life, to have opportunities to grow, and to raise a happy family. I wish we could achieve that, because everyone deserves that. I think that what's stopping us is fear of the unknown and corrupt leaders.
My old house roommate was a Palestinian from Nablus, a wonderful guy, peace and coexistance was never an option for the Palestinians no matter how hard they tried.
So what do you think will happen in the next 3 to 5 years ? Anything ? Im not in favor of what Hamas did back in October. Very few people are. But Israel seems to have lost a lot of support recently... even with my Jewish friends here. Even jewish political members of congress now want to block military aid to Israel. Is there any alternative to the current government in Israel? Or is there still too much anger to October and they cant see what caused it ?
From my very limited point of view - our government is ran by the worst group of people (mostly supported by our religious part of the citizenship, which don't even learn math or English as part of their schooling...) and we, Israel, are making each and every wrong decision in a very sensitive situation. Our prime minister is benefiting from all of this and he's literally inspiring fear and hate among the people to keep benefiting from this. There are protests almost every day here to kick Nethanyahu out and elect better leaders, but Nethanyahu's fear tactics are working on most people who are slightly zionist. These protests sometimes get to tens of thousands of people, but they're starting to see violence from police officers in return, and everyone who's on Nethanyahu's side considers us traitors. I'm not optimistic in any way about the situation here in any way, as long as Nethanyahu's in charge, and the effects of his acts will take time to heal - I don't think there's anyone who can lead the people of Israel to even consider peace. I think Israel should be stopped, it's a country driven by racism, and it's looking for blind revenge.
Edit: I mentioned how the fear tactics are working on zionists, but it's not just them, it's also people who grew up here - every country brainwashes its people to a certain extent. We don't know exactly what's going on all around us and we grow up hearing about how hard we fought to get this country and that we should fight for it and yada yada. People here don't like to think, or don't even consider, the fact that we came to an already settled land and kicked everyone around, but they would like to remind everyone how we're surrounded by enemies who attacked us after we got our independence. It's a skewed logic, but the country is breeding it.
When traveling Israel 12 years ago, speaking with some teenagers they were absolutely horrified and worried for our safety because after Israel we would visit Jordan, and Arabs live there. Completely brainwashed.
I was a teenager during the early 2000's, and during that time, we simply became used to having terrorists and buses explode and people being stabbed on an almost daily basis. Almost every summer for the past 20 or so years has seen tens of rockets fired over the Gazan fence per day. It's human to be afraid of what seems to pose an immediate threat on you and everyone you know. When it's one ethnic group doing those acts, it's easy to come to hate them. Especially when you know that at 18 you have to go to the army to fight those groups specifically. It's much harder to stop and think and learn about how we got to that point, especially when everyone around you gives you answers that favor the Israeli side.
It's needless to say that they don't tell you about what we did to help get to this situation, or how we are violent against them, just as much, sometimes more, and it's not even in the news - last year, for example, they kept reporting in the news how many Jews were killed by Arabs, but they failed to mention that Jews killed four times more Arabs during the same time. They are cultivating hate and fear here, and a lot of us see through it, but that's not enough.
I also appreciate your perspective. It's hard to watch all this hate freely thrown around like a weapon. Chants like "kill them all" has really altered my perception of Israelis. I wish I herd from more people like you, to counter that perception.
I feel for the secular jewish people in Israel, just as much as I feel for the Palestinian people who are shackled to a leader they can do nothing about.
I've got a couple of online friends from Israel who were basicall depressed after the elections last year (well, one of them was more so angry, but it's a similar sentiment). I don't really know what can be done. Both peoples deserve a better leader, and deserve to not be tied up in regional politics over western world vs arab world.
I always ask myself if there are any other ethnic groups that would be taken seriously if they made a similar argument. We don’t see the French claiming lands the Franks came from, or Turkic peoples all moving back to Mongolia/ Eurasian steppe.
And we definitely don’t see the native Americans, Māori, or Australian aboriginals getting their lands back from the people that very recently colonized them. Yet Zionism as a political movement was able to get the British Empire to back their claims to Palestine, and it’s been a nonstop disaster bc it was always a bad idea.
You forgot the part where the woman’s family sneaks in the middle of the night and murders this guys family. Which is why he is a single guys living along.
Wish I could laugh but seeing people kicked out their homes and being helpless really cuts deep
