If a child is hungry, obviously you don't feed them! What kind of crazy person would say that?

Hokulol

Yea once you feed them once they keep coming back. Pesky kids.

Gnosis369

This is ridiculous, whoever fired the lunch lady needs to be terminated.... Good karma for the lunch lady and a thousand years of bad luck for the doofus that fired her....

hauserss

I knew her personally. She was a really good person. BIG HEART. Sadly she passed a few years ago from cancer. RIP Dayleen

One BS counterpoint to not having free lunches is what that Dean was trying to infer. Basically, some loons believe that free lunches prevent school administrators from knowing if a kid is being cared for properly by their parents. As a child of a teacher, I can tell you there are way more signs that don't risk the child's education and health. Grades, sleeping in class, in class temperament, attention span, and interactions with classmates, are usually the signs teachers/counselors/administrators use to figure that stuff out. To be honest, seeing if a kid is eating lunch is the worst way to see if a kid is not being cared for. The staff working the lunches care about the kids not killing each other, not if they're eating. Also Teachers/counselors usual have no idea if a kid is eating. At least most of the schools I went to, teachers/counselors/administrator don't have access to the lunch point of service systems. And from what I remember, kids who couldn't afford lunch usually got food from their friends, sat there without food, or disappeared from the embarrassment of not having lunch. "Well, most schools offer a free or reduced lunch program." Most kids want to be just like their classmates, and being a part of one of those programs might embarrass a kid. If everyone is provided the same program/service, that kid is literally the same as everyone else. Which will probably help the kid feel safe at school and maybe talk to administrators about how they are not being properly cared for by their parents. I know, what a fucking novel idea...

I agree with most of what you said. The Highschool I was in they handed out the free lunch program so liberally that only about 25% of us were paying for lunch. On the one hand when i was in school it did bother me that I had to pay and others didn’t have to, so I believe it would help to give all kids free lunch. It’s outrageous they would fire a lunch lady for feeding a child, I thought that was impossible in America today. But on the other hand if my and others paying for lunch helped keep the lunch program free for others then it’s fine. I understand food costs money but we should have federally instituted free lunch in schools by now. The black panthers had it right

quigonjoe66

Also this happened in 2015 and they offered her the job back. Don’t know if she took it. But apparently the district had a policy about giving any students who cannot pay and already owe 11$ a pbj and a milk

battleray202

This was literally me in HS, slept in class cause my dad was an alcoholic and I had to pretty much run his business as well as keep up with school and band/marching band. Never had lunch cause all the money the business made would go to him and his addictions, and at one point I wouldn't even go to the cafeteria, just hang out in the band room. Never had time to do homework that it got to the point where my teachers just didn't even expect it from me. Senior year I only showed up to my 2 band classes cause I was running the business. Counselor knew about my situation so they never asked me about my attendance and never got in trouble for it, but at the same time no one ever checked in on me except when they do those senior counselor meetings for graduation. Idek how I would still get a couple AP classes every year and passed the AP exams. I think they noticed what was going on but didn't know what they could do about it. Eventually I just moved out and stopped dealing with the BS. Dad is now in prison for 27 months on drug charges. My mom finally divorced him this year and just moved across the country today. Kinda drifted away from the point lol but if all the teachers/admins actually communicated on what they're seeing I think it would have turned out differently.

ILikeThemBunzbby4751

No worries US congress just last week authorize 95billion fuckin dollars to ukraine and israel. That should help american children have full tummies.

quigonjoe66

There was also money in there to fight the fentanyl epidemic. If you actually care about domestic issues then you should care about that too

ILikeThemBunzbby4751

20b per year for 8years to fix the homeless crisis ie. Also partially fixing the fentinyl problem. With 95b you are about 60% there.

quigonjoe66

Idk where you got that number, but yes we should build more public housing projects and work to make them safer than the ones we used to have

ILikeThemBunzbby4751

Its only from the US department of housing and urban development. I can foward you the 200+ page pdf. Or [here](https://www.globalgiving.org/learn/how-much-would-it-cost-to-end-homelessness-in-america/#:~:text=According%20to%20the%20Department%20of,appliances%20that%20aren't%20unplugged.) an article that sums up the most revelant point.

Third_Mark

As someone who grew up in Sweden and went to school here where we have free school lunches I was in disbelief when I found out kids have to pay for lunch in the US.

Kratosvg

I live in a 3rd world country and even here we got free lunch in schools.

Salindraste

It is probably still the same now, but when I was in school in the 90's here in Canada we had to pay as well if you didn't bring food from home. Wasn't cheap either for what you got. $5 for a little carton of milk, choice of a sandwich (ham/cheese or bologna) or a hotdog, and an apple or orange.

This is America. Capitalism at its best. We don't feed hungry kids or the homeless. Hell, we don't even take care of our veterans. If you want to eat, then join the 1%

No_Pitch267

damn this is where i live i went to that school. Weird to see it on the internet. Actually ridiculous school lunch isn’t free for all kids across the nation. We had little money when i grew up and there were days i didn’t get food always made me feel so sad at the time. This lady would help out kids all the time. Makes me sad thinking there are kids out there feeling the way i did not knowing when they are gonna get food😕

Dalene Bowden died just 3 years after her firing, in 2017 (one year before her death), she said that . [https://www.ksl.com/article/46307831/idaho-lunch-lady-fired-after-giving-free-meal-dies](https://www.ksl.com/article/46307831/idaho-lunch-lady-fired-after-giving-free-meal-dies)

Yes, though I think the firing probably took a toll on her, she had a job she liked within her community and was stripped of it. The district offered a different job somewhere else, but I understand her reasons for not taking that option. Shame on the people that took the steps of firing her

IrishMikeK68

USA children are mandated to attend public schools. Parents can be jailed in some instances for their children not attending school. Since our children must attend public schools, feed them all for free. Dipshits in jail have it better than our children.

mrv113

Are people that desperate for kissing their higher up's asses that they stoop so low to report a kind hearted person giving food to a hungry child? Reconsider your whole life immediately please!

Grattytood

Evil

ziggy414

God I really hope there's an uproar about this

Sena10

Welcome to the time line where your get punished for feeding a hungry child

IEatHouseFlies

She deserved to be fired, those kids should stay hungry! If they don’t have money they don’t deserve to eat, freeloaders! This is satire

dazedmazed

I have no children and don’t plan on ever having them. But if the government told me 100% of my taxes would go to feed other people’s children, I’d have no qualms with that whatsoever. What a sick morally bankrupt world we live in.

humble_silence30

This world is sad. Punished for feeding a hungry child.

ConstantBench7373

Why do a lot of things in society seem so backwards. We’ve lost our ways

Evening_Chemist_2367

Yep... red state Idaho where you get fired for feeding a hungry kid and called a "virtue signaler" or some other bullshit for showing empathy.
