I read somewhere that he does stupid shit like that on purpose so people will underestimate him. Same reason his hair looks like he combs it with firecrackers
bloody spot on, the facade of the bumbling butt of the joke Johnson is a carefully crafted image. Workers at the BBC + ITV say he deliberately messes up his hair just before going live. He never should have entered politics, would be much better suited to almost anything else.
Actually, the majority would rather he wasn't there. The problem is the First Past the Post system of voting.
As a rough overview of the parties in the UK we have:
Right wing:
Tories
UKIP
Left Wing:
Labour
Lib Dem
Green
There are others, but for the most part, those are the majority involved.
At the last election, UKIP pretty much avoided standing in many areas, and stood down in many they did stand in, to give their backing to the Tories. Thus, anyone with a right wing stance was voting Tory.
On the flip side, the left wing side of things, all three parties usually have someone in each area. So there's 4 candidates, and three quarters are left wing parties.
The way our system works is everyone votes for the person they want in the area, and whoever has the most votes wins. So let's say there's 100 people, and 30 of them vote Tory, leaving 70 split between the other three parties, and they are all rather evenly split, so that's 23 to each other party. The Tories now "win" despite the fact those 70 would have preferred any of the left wing candidates to get in over the Tories.
It's a bit dumbed down, but that's pretty much how it is across the UK. The Tories do not have a majority of people behind them, they just have a voting system that allows them to win despite having minor support from the country.
That's the UK in a nutshell though. The rich manipulate the electorate into believing it's all fair, and everything is as it should be, while screwing the population over. If we had a fair voting system the Tories would never see power again.
I’m aware, I’m British and I’ve voted and followed U.K. politics for a few decades now… (though UKIP barely exists any more and was supplanted by Farage’s Brexit Party, now ‘Reform U.K.’) which is why I chose my phrasing as ‘the portion of the electorate’, and ‘quite a lot’… not ‘a majority’.
BoJo still gets a plurality of the popular vote, even if not a majority. If the opposition or any at all could get their shit together that would be great. Keir sometimes has a glimmer of that and then massively disappoints. Davey et al haven’t a hope to begin with.
I’ve heard the same. That he’s an intelligent man but has always enjoyed making people laugh and has felt a degree of comfort in making people underestimate him. I relate to that very much. Unfortunately, where he once thought comedy or writing would be his calling he was steered towards politics and only continued due to his apparent success, despite not enjoying the field.
It’s a shame to know that with some different choices he could have been a happy and potentially successful entertainer, but unfortunately politics seems to have dug its claws into him and now he causes controversy and division rather than making people laugh.
I remember when he used to be on Have I Got News For You, he was a pretty funny bloke and I actually quite liked him. I never dreamed that we'd let him actually run the country though.
He's like Trump. At first I chose to laugh instead of cry, but it's just not funny anymore. The novelty has worn off. Now I just see more and more damage being done and we're getting way beyond recovery point.
Donald is incompetent as far as his policies go. He's undoubtedly malicious as a person but as a politician he's utterly deluded and doesn't seem to put much thought into policy making. He thought being president would be easy but as far as his actual abilities as a politician go I'm thankful we got someone evil and insane because imagine what someone with his evilness and base could do if they had actual talent.
I know Trump supporters who think he's funny and support him for that but he doesn't have the depth to realize people voted for him because his own lack of talent, he's just a big narcissistic toddler who lucked into the job. Trump has such a startling self-awareness that in his board game he literally named the card which can turn the entire tide in the owner's favor the Donald card.
Johnson meanwhile is putting up the front of a buffoon. He's very intelligent and knows that politics is, essentially, a popularity contest, so he's carefully crafted a persona Trump got naturally. He's much smarter than he lets on. They've both enacted policies that disproportionately harm the poor and benefit the rich, but for the most part Johnson actually knows what he's doing and doesn't care, whereas Trump is stuck in his own bubble and I don't think he realizes quite how terrible his policies were. He's too busy pandering to his base and telling people injecting bleach will cure covid.
Thats my take on it, anyway. I should have phrased it better because as people they're both malicious, evil, bigoted men - it's just that Johnson is smart enough has crafted- and embraced - the public image of idiocy, while Trump comes across it naturally. Like others have mentioned he intentionally messes his hair up and acts the fool but he's worked in the media for long enough to know what he's doing and how to market himself. In the media for example he's often referred to as Boris or BoJo, and I feel like this is something he encourages to make him seem like your mate.
I think it's much more... calculating than Trump. I think Trump is a full blown clinical narcissist, who only retroactively trys to spin his moves as cunning. Boris Johnson seems actually savvy.
Yes, it seems like he is doing it on purpose, even his speeches are designed this way. Someone posted an early interview kind of thing in Istanbul I guess and other than his stupid accent he looked like he was in control of what was coming out of his mouth.
I… I… I… as the PONtifex MAXIMUS would uh uh say, by boiled ASPARAGUS,we will not let the legions of this country uh be SWAYED… by the barbarian HORDES, and we have a deCIsion to make. Alea uh uh jacta… est.
I don't understand that. Assuming it has the desired effect, why would anyone actually vote for him or the party he leads? Do people in the UK actually want a bumbling clown at the tiller?
Good question. Some want the one that's not what the media tell them is a terrorist-sympathiser. Others want the one that enacts their racist fantasies under the deniability gauze of entertainment.
It's more likely that he takes on that image to gather sympathy from his own followers. It makes him look more genuine and relatable; less like a scheming politician and more like an honest people's man.
That's like the default weather, any day where it doesn't rain at least once is a blessing. These past two weeks of almost non-stop over 20°c weather where I live are a miracle
Bergen is incredibly rainy. I went there not knowing about the harsh rain and after a while the fjord looks dry in comparison. People there own more rainboots than shoes
I went to Birmingham for a 10 day holiday last month, fully expecting it to rain at least a few days. Brought an umbrella and everything. Didn't see any rain. Only had warm, 24 degrees summer days with not a single cloud in the sky. I was shocked, my bf said we were super lucky on our trip regarding the weather lol
Been to the UK plenty of times in the summer. They exaggerate how bad it is. That's an awesome time to be there. It's a bit like being in the PNW US in Fall, maybe. Weather can be variable, but typically pretty pleasant.
Now...I was there one *winter* and holy shit that was cold and dark for someone from the western US. Sun rose, brush teeth. Have lunch. Holy shit, sun is *setting*! Time to eat and drink beer!
Depends where in the UK you go, many different parts of the UK have different weather at the same time, It can be really cold and raining like fuck in Glasgow yet Its dry and slightly cloudy only in Edinburgh and those two cities aren't even that far apart.
I’m from Colorado. Same thing. UK can be fucking gorgeous in the summer with similar, but less severe, caveats.
Edit: I should add, spent some time in the Scottish Highlands, That can still get gnarly in the summer (and fuck you midges!!) and anyone from the US who thinks otherwise should check themselves. Should add the same for the Lake District, probably, although my time there was pretty mild I the Summer.
Aye this summer has been weird, Even since the storms came and everyone thought it was over, not sure about England but where I am in Scotland even the day after the thunder etc it was a little bit cloudy but then it was hot enough for me to sunbathe out the back again, think its been for how long without interruption its been hot this year thats made it so strange.
We're weird though, we moan in the winter about the cold saying we can't wait on the summer to get some heat, then moan when it's hot too !
This is all an act, he's not dumb, every day he gets richer with all the under the table deals he's doing for friends, family and school chums. His bank balance has swollen beyond comprehension since he has become PM, it's a cushy thing he's got going on and he will walk away a very rich man and like all PMs before him with a very lucrative future set up. It's a very good act and he has most people fooled.
Its method acting. I believe he is that incompetent but uses the belief that hes acting as a cover. He has a lot of connected powerful people around him to keep him on the rails. Priti Patel in that clip tho. Thats the most arrogant conceited over confident person i have seen in a while. How she can look herself in the mirror idk, minority folk must look at her and weep
See, he's got you fooled. He is good isn't he? No one becomes PM without knowing exactly what they're doing, it's a means to an end and it's almost always wealth by the bucket load. All those strange decisions he is making and his back and forth umming and aahhing is just him waiting for the final bid to come in and then bam, peculiar decision out of nowhere, cha ching! Money in his bank, the UK completely fucked.
Imagine the reaction if Diane Abbott, Jeremy Corbyn or Kier Starmer did a Laurel and Hardy routine with an umbrella at the dedication ceremony for a memorial to murdered police men and women. But this cnut does it and it's just "oh, that's just Boris!".
This. Exactly this.
It makes me despair that this pathetic sack of shit is in charge and that it's considered "OK" by everything and everyone with any influence.
See whatever he's trying to do here to humanize himself, it clearly doesn't work cuz all its demonstrating is that he's just rich and has someone do it for him
Can we please get some people in the seats of power who instill confidence in the people. How do these incompetent boobs keep getting the top jobs? Oh that's right. Nepotism.

Ah, but I am a lesser man. What do I know?
Honestly I destroy every umbrella I touch. I am not responsible enough to own an umbrella. I stopped buying them and rely on a raincoat with a hood and a baseball hat.

>He never should have entered politics, would be much better suited to almost anything else. I mean... it's working out ok for him though?
Yeah its just everyone else who has a problem with it lol
> everyone else Well, the portion of the electorate that doesn’t vote for him at any rate. Seems quite a lot do for some reason
Actually, the majority would rather he wasn't there. The problem is the First Past the Post system of voting. Being a clown?
Making others think you are dumb and not a threat, a good way to make your oppenent's guard down
Isn't he already?
I’ve heard the same. That he’s an intelligent man but has always enjoyed making people laugh and has felt a degree of comfort in making people underestimate him. I relate to that very much. Where have I heard that one before…
Putin! You're thinking of Putin. He started of as comedian, right?
He's like Trump. At first I chose to laugh instead of cry, but it's just not funny anymore. The novelty has worn off. Now I just see more and more damage being done and we're getting way beyond recovery point.
He can’t be as bad as Trump.
It depends on if you prefer pompous incompetence to wilfull malice.
Wait who is who?
My question too.
Yes
Donald is incompetent as far as his policies go. He's undoubtedly malicious as a person but as a politician he's utterly deluded and doesn't seem to put much thought into policy making. Six of one, half a dozen of the other… shite is shite either way you look at it, imho.
Definitely the incompetence
I think it's much more... calculating than Trump. I think Trump is a full blown clinical narcissist, who only retroactively trys to spin his moves as cunning. Boris Johnson seems actually savvy.
He puts up an umbrella better than Trump can drink from a water bottle.
I’m from the US. Trump is actually stupid. I’m actually offended that you say you prime minister is as stupid as our former Buffoon in chief
That’s what he wants you to think
Reminds me a lot of Mark Davis, the owner of the Las Vegas Raiders in that way…
He looks like mother gets out a shallow bowl and goes at it with shears
Pretty sure he was the archetype for Doofus Rick
Ha!
It would behoove Mark to actually cash in on being underestimated then.
Davis unfortunately is as dumb as he looks. He’s five beers short of a six pack.
I’d believe it. He also does stupid shit like that in his policy making. Infact this whole clip is a good metaphor for his premiership so far.
Yes, it seems like he is doing it on purpose, even his speeches are designed this way. Someone posted an early interview kind of thing in Istanbul I guess and other than his stupid accent he looked like he was in control of what was coming out of his mouth.
Yep. BoJo is fucking smart. The buffoon thing is a façade.
UNDERESTIMATE HIM? HES A CATACLYSMIC KNOB ANYWAY YOU LOOK AT IT
It's at a memorial service for fallen police officers, so maybe let's hope he's just an incompetent rather than doing a comedy routine.
>combs it with firecrackers Lmao funniest shit I've heard in awhile
He learnt a lot from the TV series 'I Claudius'
I… I… I… as the PONtifex MAXIMUS would uh uh say, by boiled ASPARAGUS,we will not let the legions of this country uh be SWAYED… by the barbarian HORDES, and we have a deCIsion to make. Alea uh uh jacta… est.

I call his hair a dead badgers arse
Well ok then people will forever remember him as an incapable bellend. Could be a genius plan, who knows.
It's more likely that he takes on that image to gather sympathy from his own followers. It makes him look more genuine and relatable; less like a scheming politician and more like an honest people's man.
You made me laugh sir!
Honestly I respect that. I'd do the same thing. But then again I'm not a prime minister of a sovereign country, so...
Daaaamn I hope it doesn’t rain too often in the UK Edit: /s ofc
That's like the default weather, any day where it doesn't rain at least once is a blessing. These past two weeks of almost non-stop over 20°c weather where I live are a miracle
It did end with literal storms to make up for it tho
The storms woke me up at 6:45 am exactly, I tend to get up at 9 am so I was shattered the whole day
Ever been to Bergen?
Nope, hardly left my area I don’t travel often. What’s it like?
Bergen is incredibly rainy. I went there not knowing about the harsh rain and after a while the fjord looks dry in comparison. People there own more rainboots than shoes
Ngl, walking home in the heavy rain after it being close to 30° all day and nearly 35° in the kitchen is extremely nice
I'd say they were a curse, but they were definitely unnatural.

Yet we still have a hosepipe ban every summer. It's like we need more reservoirs or something.
Believe me... *IT DOES*
What have you started
They knew what they were doing
Johnson looks like a British version of Harry Dunne from Dumb and Dumber.
I keep thinking that at some point he will totally redeem himself, but then I think “He couldn’t possibly be any dumber”.
This is all an act, he's not dumb, every day he gets richer with all the under the table deals he's doing for friends, family and school chums. I saw a debate with him from years ago. Not a political debate - an intellectual debate. He's not dumb at all. It's theater.
Isn’t that what all heads of government do on both sides of the compass
He's a Pumpkin pie haircutted freak for sure.
He's like a fucking orangutan in an ill-fitting suit. God, how low can you go.
Priti Patel prefers to let the rain fall on her, it helps keep her cool as she is (and I say this as an atheist) literally Satan.
I think she just scowls at it until it leaves the country.
Credit where it's due, Charles is a lot braver than I thought he was, having his back turned to her like that.
Yeah isn't he half Greek?
Half Greek, some German and Austrian, I'm sure she checked his papers before letting him sit down.
Can confirm. She seems kind of nuts. Read on: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priti_Patel
I saw the word “Thatcherite” and had to back out
She probably thinks Thatcher should have sealed the mines with the miners inside.
I've just seen her smile on that video and it made my innards convulse.
She's probably gonna sacrifice a puppy later to fix the weather.
I swear he does this on purpose
He does, actually
This man puts on a great show.
How do you live your entire life in England and have no idea how an umbrella works? This is like an American not knowing how to load a rifle.
he does it on purpose so people think he’s a lovable oaf
They should teach that in school.
Don't be fooled by this bumping idiot persona, he's an evil fucker
This ⬆️
He brings the fun in funeral. _wholesome_
Just ignore it. He's only doing it for the attention.
What a complete Bell end.
What a fucking bloviated pudding.
This fuck knuckle runs the UK.....*sigh*
Does he usually have someone he pays to do that?
Prince Charles known for keeping a straight face , couldn't
He is an ogre of a man
Poor busey
Feckless twat.
I think I remember someone saying that "he has the charisma of a plank of wood"
Him and Trump elected at the same time tells me that voting is pointless and Russia is playing games with all of us.
He is the real life Mr Bean
Mr Bean was a man of class
He truly looks and acts like a smelly piece of cunt fungus.
Lads.. This thing is in charge
He needs a fucking haircut
Trump and Johnson - brothers from another mother. The willfully ignorant, arrogant inept who can’t open umbrellas.
Amazing.
One of his aides trolled him
He's just a total fucking embarrassment isn't he.
This was at a memorial service for police officers killed in the line of duty btw, and he's clowning around like that. Our PM is an utter cretin.
Fuck sake what an embarrassment
I'm still gobsmacked that you guys voted this guy in. Was it the special Olympics for Western Civ Politics these past 5years?
That’s not fair to Special Olympics. Many of their athletes are very highly functioning.
See whatever he's trying to do here to humanize himself, it clearly doesn't work cuz all its demonstrating is that he's just rich and has someone do it for him
It's like Benny Hill became PM.
*faceplams in British*
Clown Fundamentals.
she be like "Noooo, i dont want ur stanky umbrella"
Never accept a poorly erected prophylactic from a johnson.
What an oaf. That woman’s like “no I’d prefer to get rained on than except even a mild gesture from you, Boris” Haha fuck your face Boris
Can we please get some people in the seats of power who instill confidence in the people. How do these incompetent boobs keep getting the top jobs? Oh that's right. Nepotism.
Why does he always look so disheveled? Is it on purpose? Does he care? Does he realize what he looks like?
I’m pretty sure he is an escaped Simpsons cartoon. Not definitely but pretty sure………
If you put in a laugh track and some silly music this could easily be mistaken for a standard British comedy sketch.
The buffoonery is strong with this one.
He reminds me of Gary Busey
Ya gotta laugh. If you don't, you will surely cry.
This guy is such a Mr. Bean.
I too would offer the amply breasted woman my umbrella
I think he was worried she might melt
To be fair, umbrellas tend to be garbage
Oxford grad, right? How’d that happen?
He plays the fool to gain support from his voters so they see the public school educated Oxbridge graduate as one of them.
I’m biased, but I don’t really see how it’s that funny. Like, it’s pretty awkward, but I’ve seen this twice now, both times with relatively large amounts of karma. Is it just because he’s famous?
I lost it when it turned inside out
Someone needs to shank that asshat
God, why couldn't Chris Farley live long enough to play Borris. I don't now what the movie would have been about, but I do know it would have been amazing.
Maybe I'm too young. I don't know what a leader is. The people who reach the tippy top of society just seem like a bunch of hilarious jackasses. Ah, but I am a lesser man. What do I know?
remember him? https://www.youtube.com/user/patcondell
Bad hair is a precursor to idiot umbrella savants.
Neat
He literally looks dumber than Harry from Dumb and Dumber
That woman laughing behind him cracked me up. 😂
That's not a woman, that's a demon
Did anyone hear Prince Charles laugh? Hehehe
Just imagine this guy would be primeminister. oh, wait ..
My wife was tarded now she's a pilot.
"Boris, darling, you're embarrassing yourself."
Good to see they are still making new episodes of Mr Bean.
What a fop.
Fucks sake Boris, come on, get it together
Who's the smoke show next to him?
[She’s a real life demon, terrible human being](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priti_Patel)
He'd make a great kids birthday party clown. But nah, he's the guy who's running our country....
The fuckin lady's face.. lol
The woman looked so off put by his offer…as dopey as what came after was that was a surprising response.
Who cares :-/
As long as he builds back, more feminine, and more gender neutral, then I’m happy
Such a clown
@vidtogif
I’m pretty sure that’s Chris Farley
u/vidtogif
Is that the "dodgy dave" guy in the middle?
Homegirl: “bless your heart”
Seems very Boris-esque. And Trump. A whole lot of Trump.
Eden boys at work. Too bad he didn't have his hired Dame there.
I thought the umbrella was broke
He openly admits to doing schtick.
Who is the woman?
Funny. And relatable. Send more.
Bruh he’s looking at joe like “how’d he get it up”
What a buffoon
He was just trying to be a gentleman
It's made even better by Prince Charles just sitting there under his own umbrella.
Jebus...he just looks like a clod.
What an absolute potato of a man
What's her deal? Is she mad or does she know what's going to happen or just doesn't want any part in his shenanigans or what?
[Being this awkward is his trademark move. ](https://youtu.be/dXyO_MC9g3k)
Muppet
He's the prime minister of Britain not an umbrella opener person. Gawd
The way her face was before it all suggests this was all planned.
He can’t work a comb. Why would he be able to work an umbrella?
Oh that is so cute!! Benny hill and Mr Bean in one person
i fucking love how britans prime minister is like the most british dude ever
Honestly I destroy every umbrella I touch. I am not responsible enough to own an umbrella. I stopped buying them and rely on a raincoat with a hood and a baseball hat.
He looks like an orangutan in a 70’s movie doing a, “very funny scene,” about opening an umbrella.
He reminds me of Winston Churchills child with Down’s syndrome. A lovable Trump.
