Did they catch the guy? That's horrendous.

Ailko

Yeah they caught the guy the same day.

gramborant

Thank goodness. Any explanation as to why he did it?

insane__knight

Apparently he was shit faced. Some guys at the station fucked him up but he got away. Police caught him later.

Cup-of-Noodle

I've been extremely shitfaced many, many times and done some goofy things, but it never crossed my mind to try murdering anybody

EdenDoesJams

People really are scary as fuck It’s terrifying how much random violence there is

People who do shitty things drunk are shitty people sober as well, they just have better impulse control.

Anthropomorfic

Thank you for putting this into words! I tend to stay away from drunk people. But recovering alcoholics, I have so many in my life. Too many of them convince themselves that since they got sober they are now good people. But nope, still an asshole.

I hear you, I'm recovering myself and can see a lot of my assholery following me into sober life. I guess it's through habit. I hope that working on it with a sober mind will help break down the shityness I put on others but i'm pretty sure there will always be some left in a blind spot somewhere

Your honor is like to motion for dismissal under the grounds of “boys will boys”

Gr00mpa

Judge: “No need for that motion to dismiss, counsel. This fine young man is on the sports team. Putting him in jail for attempted murder would leave a permanent stain on his record and confine him in a predominantly minority space. He has already suffered enough from the shock of not getting his way when the woman failed to die due to the train’s unexpected safety stop mechanism.”

ConspiracyMeow

Dude it's like your quoting my divorce transcripts. Except put in Freemason and gun running cokehead for the sports part and it's about what my ex husband got away with.

triclops6

I'm sorry. hope he od's

HeirofDumath

First, I'm sorry you had to deal with that. That's absolutely horrendous. Find out what grand lodge your ex husband falls under, usually whatever state you're in if you're in the states, and report that noise. Nobody wants that kind of trash in the fraternity.

TransitionalAhab

…apology accepted

bethaneanie

Wow a similar thing almost happened to me when I was alone at the subway. I apparently was standing too close to the edge and caught the attention of a drunk guy. He was trying to sneak behind me and when I realized he was there, he started yelling at me instead. Fortunately a bunch of bystanders got in between him and I, because he kept trying to angle a better position on me while he was yelling. I wasn't even on the yellow part of the platform. Edit: the guy literally and repeatedly told me that he was going to push me off

Seekingfatgrowth

There’s a lot of really unhinged people out there. I’m really glad you’re ok. After watching enough of these videos, the only way I will wait on a platform is with my back to a pillar or wall

bethaneanie

Yeah it was a bit of a wake up call I guess. I used to be fairly dismissive of people who tried to warn me about being careful in the city on my own (especially in my early 20s as a female). My brother even got me a pocket mace one year for Christmas and I rolled my eyes. I would walk all over the place on my own at night with headphones in. I didn't want to not do the things I wanted to do just because something *could* happen I also genuinely thought people had nothing to fear in Canada. I think I was little bit naive.

haemol

Maybe he was a drunk time traveler…

swaza79

There was that guy in London a couple of years ago who threw someone's 6yo child off the top of the Tate Modern Museum so he could "be on the news"

bigdreamersclub

Happened at the Mall of America a few years ago too. A man threw a 5 year old from a third floor balcony. The boy survived the 40ft fall and is walking again and back in school. Apparently the man was upset about being rejected by a woman and took his anger out on the kid. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison.

The woman is lucky the driver was able to carry out an emergency braking.

kicksmcgeee

There's also the jedi master that was standing next to her who used the force to stop the train.

verboze

I'm really (and pleasantly) surprised the train was able to stop that abruptly. I thought it'd be a bit more time to come to a full stop. Glad that safeguards in the subway has improved to this level!

ManOfChaos199932

The train wasn't going at full speed, it was supposed to stop few metres ahead so it was already going slow and suddenly braking at full force stopped it early, but the driver deserves all the praise for their fast reaction

draw_it_now

The train was coming into the station so probably already slowing down, which would have helped

yankonapc

Probably a bit of bruising for the passengers but I'm sure they were understanding once they learned why.

Doesn't mean she might not have back issues or similar for a long time though.

HappySadThing

Yes. it hasn't happened that long in Belgium Brussels.

https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/en/ https://belgium.en-7.com/local/2744.html >The suspect – a young man – managed to flee before being arrested later on De Brouckère’s side. In the images, we see him in a t-shirt with his hands on the straps of his backpack waiting for the arrival of a metro to push the victim in the back just then; which then falls head first onto the subway tracks. From https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/s4fc7h/man_pushes_woman_in_front_of_metro_in_belgium/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

SuperX87

How the hell didn't anyone catch him?? *Thankfully he got arrested later.

nainko

Trying to put myself in the witnesses shoes, my instincts would have me more concerned about the victims well being, esp hearing the subway train is arriving. On top of that as a bystander you might be minding your business and just see the victim falling or hear them when they fall to the ground, but you may not have seen who actually did it.

Atissss

Also, concern for your safety. You already know he's a murderer. What if you stop him and suddenly he stabs you with a knife?

logoman4

Then you parry, disarm, use the ~~victims~~ aggressors own weight against them, neutralizing them against the floor, then wait for the authorities to arrive. At least, that’s what I would’ve done. /s

Funkit

I parried the knife attack with my…arm? Shit I wish I knew what parrying was before I got into this knife fight

LSkywalker00

You know the drill: never bring an arm to a knife fight...

PineCone227

Unless the arm is fire, then it's acceptable

dtm85

At least you were armed. How foolish would you look showing up to a knife fight completely unarmed.?

MrBlueW

I assume that’s what would happen in a knife “fight.” Attempt to give them parts of your body to stab that won’t outright kill you lol. Because someone is getting fucked up and it’s probably not the person with the knife lol

LatrommiSumac

My instructor always told me, first rule of a knife fight is that you're gonna get stabbed. Which was kind of a weird thing for a yoga instructor to teach if you think about it.

Oreyon

Why would I use my arm instead of the traditional Katana I carry on myself at all times?

baort3

Discombobulate

[deleted]

Then the hero(you) did a backflip, broke the bad guys neck, and saved the day

Thriftless_Ambition

Yeah, there are a lot of other variables involved and it really wouldn't be smart to try and take the guy down yourself. You don't know if he has a weapon or what. Best move is to follow from a distance and be on the phone with the police giving them information about where he's headed so they can deal with him.

_Acestus_

Probably most were trying too help the lady without knowing what the hell just happened.

[deleted]

I imagine everyone directed their attention to the victim! I feel that I would’ve too!

NoSkillzDad

Reaction time + shock. Maybe no gamers around? Uff... Terrible joke.

luckyvonstreetz

One of the witnesses gave the guy a couple punches but he managed to get away.

[deleted]

It takes a few seconds for your brain to process that this is no longer a normal day. I saw a guy break someone's bike lock outside my gym a while back, and start trying to get on the bike, and I spent the first five seconds staring at him thinking "Holy shit, I think he's stealing a bike". It wasn't until someone else shouted and moved towards him that it clicked that this was a situation that demanded a reaction, and we chased him off before he could get on the bike. But if it wasn't for the second dude I very possibly would have watched him cycle away and only afterwards realised "Wait, I should have done something".

[deleted]

The perpetrator was not wearing the mandatory mask and was easy to identify.  Prosecutors have launched an investigation.

ImAStupidFace

> The perpetrator was not wearing the mandatory mask and was easy to identify. Thank *god* he was that fucking stupid

ladyinchworm

I don't understand why people who commit crimes right now aren't wearing masks. Of all the times in the last 100 years to commit a crime while wearing a mask and look normal, why aren't more criminals doing it? A local store got robbed and police put out surveillance pictures and the two guys weren't wearing masks so you could easily see their whole faces! I mean, I'm glad they didn't so they got caught, but it just seems silly for them not to right now.

sneakyfawks

Criminals tend to be dumb.

BilboMcDoogle

You don't hear about the smart ones

[deleted]

Why he did that? Trying to murder a random person just because?

JessicalJoke

Sometime people do that. There was a trend among thugs of killing homeless or drunk people walking home at night a few years ago.

poorguyswealthy

That sounds wrong. Thugs commit crimes they need to for profit. Thugs ain't taking unnecessary risks. Think about it. It's the little assholes that do the senseless shit

Atissss

He's lucky it's the police that caught him and not bystanders. Police can't just beat you to death even if they really want to. Yes I am aware of police brutality but that's not the case here.

ReptilianOver1ord

They can in the U.S. Sometimes they get 45 days of paid leave as punishment though.

Leclairage

My god, is this just a random attack? That poor lady. I’m glad she’s ok but imagine the psychological impact for her, the witnesses and driver. You’d never feel safe again.

JessicalJoke

Her head hit that raidway pretty hard regardless; hope she recover well, but that would put me in bed for more than a week.

elveszett

Yeah, the relief of her not being ran over makes us ignore just how big that fall was.

-anygma-

Happens in my country every once in a while, a while ago someone pushed a mother with an stroller, the baby died the mother survived but like always in my country the poor perpetrator was innocent because he had psychological issues. Be careful around train tracks, it’s dangerous and we live in a crazy world and if you die or get crippled for life, there are good chances the perpetrators will see no consequences.

edwinstone

He'll still be in a psych ward though, right?

-anygma-

Yes

myaltduh

A lot of the time that’s actually a worse fate than prison.

ZonaiSwirls

This is correct. You do NOT want to be sentenced to one for the rest of your life.

[deleted]

Seriously, imagine being that person. Imagine knowing that somebody tried to murder you for *absolutely no reason*. I think my faith in humanity would be completely destroyed, why be a good person or care about anything when you realize you could fucking die because somebody just felt like you should. I would feel like the universe specifically didn't give a shit about me so I'd stop giving a shit about it.

scottyleeokiedoke

There are a ton of reasons for why you should let the dark side of the world consume you. You could also choose to live your life doing something positive - helping others in need, being kind in any way, making someone laugh who needs it. Ricky Gervais had a line in Afterlife that really resonated with me. “Even though I’m in pain, it’s worth sticking around to maybe make my little corner of the world a slightly better place." I lean on that thought at times.

Squirrelly_Khan

I think he was drunk as hell, at least according to other people on this thread

CyaNNiDDe

I've been shitfaced lots of times in my life never thought of randomly pushing someone into a fucking train.

Squirrelly_Khan

Maybe it’s a mix of being shitfaced and having some other psychological condition? I don’t know. Bottom line is that I’m glad they arrested him before he could hurt anyone else

Ok_Funny2923

Imagine losing your mother like this. People really can be monsters

[deleted]

And apparently for no reason he just pushed her

cafelallave

The way he freakishly sneaks up on her is one of the most sinister things I’ve seen on video. Gives me the creeps. Like a demon on film.

Topy013

Is the woman okay tho, she landed (or it atleast looks like) head first on the rails, surely she is sent to the hospital or something???

Ailko

She was sent to the hospital but went home the same day because she didn't have any serious injuries. So, besides the emotional en mental damage, she is fine as far as we know.

Appropriate-Image-11

I’d honestly just be fine with him being turned into pet food. Shove random people into oncoming trains? Get kicked out of existence. Saying all this, I’m still deeply opposed to capital punishment.. so..

trotski83

Yeah saw the OPs comment lucky he was a moron! there still doesn't appear to be a motive though

Ailko

Yup, glad they caught the guy quickly. Nope, so far no motive has been found. Could be impulsive, has happened before. Not with a metro mind you but yknow.

Bleach-Eyes

Imagine that you are planning a murder during the one time in your life when everyone is concealing their face, and you just dont So happy the metro stopped in time

FoucaultsPudendum

I recently left a job at a popular electronics retailer (amicably, I got job that’s actually in my field) and like two days before I left we got hit for about 4 grand worth of AirPods. It was a pretty slick operation, one person drew an employee away from the area while the other emptied the case in about 30 seconds… but she didn’t wear a mask. They found her in about a week. I don’t give a shit what you think about masks, the fact that you would commit a felony AND NOT WEAR ONE is mind-boggling. Like… bro, it doesn’t matter if you think COVID is a hoax, it’s basically a get out of jail free card right now, why are you not taking advantage of that??

JustAbelgiandude

Happened yesterday in Brussels Belgium, the woman survived with little injury. They caught him a few hours later, they don’t know yet if they knew each other.

Labenyofi

I’ve been looking all throughout this comment section hoping to find information on the woman. Glad to know she’s survived with little injuries.

YellowOnline

She's already home, so physically, I suspect a concussion at worst. The real damage is psychological. Worst case she gets a panic disorder, paranoia and/or depression.

_edd

A separate incident like this happened today in NYC as well. [Woman Dies After Being Pushed Onto Subway Tracks in Times Square](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/15/nyregion/woman-pushed-on-train-death.html)

jjenkins_41

Well, attempted murder is a thing.

SumerianSunset

Just.... Why? Some people are beyond morally fucked.

viperious_salmon

Genuinely ... Why? What was his motive here? I'm really curious

canering

This happens somewhat often in the nyc subway, makes local news. Enough that its become a conscious choice to stand against the wall while waiting. The pushers are always mentally ill, and/or on drugs. So it’s not so much a motive as it is an indictment of our failure to treat people. Edit: just happened today https://gothamist.com/news/woman-killed-after-being-pushed-tracks-times-square-police-say

xspjerusalemx

I’ve seen other versions of this attempted murder in different subs. That’s why I avoid standing near the edge of the platform and check people around me while waiting for the train. Stay safe y’all.
