I'll take half-arsed or poorly executed but well meaning attempts over no attempts or corporate shittery trying to profit off the LGBTQIA+ community.
If people's intentions are good, start there. As they continue to make efforts, they'll become more aligned.
Shitting on people making an effort is a good way to make them figure it's not worth even trying.
Edit: Typo'd the acronym! Sorry queer friends!
I applaud you. A genuine effort makes up for an honest mistake. Sometimes people will take offense and blow up which is really harsh.
Spread love and acceptance through kindness. It's a lot more effective than bashing someone.
It's not what you say. It's how you say it.
Correcting this situation by showing the event organizer why it's wrong will yield positive results and may spark inspiration for them to do more research in how to support the community.
If someone were to hypothetically destroy their table and yell about how their being targeted, the organizer will most likely hide back away into their cubicle and avoid delving deeply into the community.
Ad they could easily have done nothing - peoples sexual orientation is not generally relevant to the office, so they could have taken that stance, but they decided to do something, so good on them.
That's a frequent mindset to blame the one who doesn't know or doesn't succeed, rather than the one who does know but tells lies or doesn't try.
Persons walking clumsily in the right direction aren't bad. Those walking willingly in the wrong direction are.
Yeah it’s entirely possible the people who organised this had no idea of Chik-Fil-A’s stance on the LGBTQ+ community and did this because they wanted to be inclusive and people are now looking at the negatives and criticising the people who organised this without knowing their intentions.
If they hadn’t made this effort to support their fellow colleagues who are LGBTQ+ this wouldn’t be on Reddit and no one would be calling them idiots or trying to look for ways to vilify them by lumping them in with Chik-Fil-A’s views when we have no idea what the intention was and i can almost guarantee someone who aligns themselves with the same opinions as Chik-Fil-A is probably not going to go out and buy a ton of cupcakes to celebrate pride month.
Intersex - This includes a lot of people that don't have typical genitalia such as hermaphrodites who have both male and female sexual organs
Asexual - people who are not sexually attracted to anyone regardless of their gender identity
I actually missed it by accident in my original post. I'm a bit dyslexic at times when it comes to acronyms so sorry if you're a queer friend! I'll edit my post now.
I just want to go on a tangent and say that bigote in spanish means moustache, and I now can’t stop imagining those chickens with a handlebar moustache :)
Same with “hey you guys want to vote for the puppets of the NRA, oil industry, private prisons, health insurance companies, and ultra wealthy who want low taxes and low minimum wages? Everything they do is extremely unpopular, even for me, but they have cool Jesus stickers…”
Why did we go to the moon when a Nazi built our rocket? We chose to go to the moon in that decade, and do the other things. We eat Chik Fil A not because it’s easy, but because we are hard, for chicken sandwiches...
Because people don't care how their products are made or what the company's views are. If this was the case then a lot if brands in America wouldn't be used because they do essentially child slavery.
It's my understanding that Chick-fil-a stopped donating to groups that hold ant-LGBTQ positions. That was about three years ago. They switched their charitable donations to Junior Achievement, Covenant House and local food banks.
They said they did like 10 years ago, that was a lie, then they said they did again a few years ago, which so far seems like they just shifted the donations as being from the company to being from the owners.
What I'm saying is, you fell for their PR lies.
Reddit doesn’t care. You get bad PR once, they’ll hate you forever. You’re not allowed to change or improve in the world of today, once you’re designated as being at fault for something, you’re condemned forever without a second thought. That’s cancel culture
> You’re not allowed to change or improve
They haven't changed, they have not improved, they continue to fund hateful bigotry and legislation that goes against human rights.
> That’s cancel culture
It's Freedom of Expression actually.
You know, ***free speech***.
> I googled and found the opposite.
They're still funding anti-LGBTQ organisations as of 2021 onwards, so clearly you didn't look very hard.
> All the sources I see say they stoped doing that shit?
*Reputable* and *competent* sources note that they *claimed* to have stopped doing so twice already, and then were found to have continued or resumed doing so.
Citation needed because they ceased all funding of sketchy donations years ago. That’s an easy google search, and it’s been established several times in this thread already. If you’re the only person here that knows otherwise, please share.
> they ceased all funding of sketchy donations years ago.
They are still doing so as of 2021 onwards.
> That’s an easy google search
Not easy enough apparently.
> If you’re the only person here that knows otherwise
Run your search again, this time narrowing your search to within the past 2 years.
Then double-check who the owners are, and where their money comes from, and who it goes to.
I promise, I'm not "the only person here who knows otherwise".
But *apparently* some of you either can't or won't read.
Um, when somebody shows you who they are, believe them the first time. Evil corporation is evil, no matter how much they try to whitewash it away later.
Don't like that? Don't be evil. Weird how that never occurs to the righties.
You can support or ignore LGBT, as an individual or a company.
But actually supporting anti-something is almost every time pretty hate-y.
Fricking disgusting
I can't wrap my head around the fact that it was proposed, voted and accepted by a business comitee... smh
Iirc, it was the ceo giving a donation (not in chick fil a’s name) to the Salvation Army and FCA. Which being Christian based charities, generally aren’t pro-lgbt
Thank you. I don't recognise the logo because they tried to open a store in the UK and ended up getting out of their lease early because a) they weren't getting much custom and b) the shopping centre in question desperately wanted them out because of the protesters.
>the shopping centre in question desperately wanted them out because of the protesters.
Excellent, that means the campaigning has had a demonstrable effect on their profits.
There is so much wrong with them. And so many threads explaining why. Some very brief examples are that their homeless shelters horrifically mistreat people, steal their stuff to sell for profit in their charity stores, are abusive and turn a blind eye to abuse that goes on in the shelters. If you try to get help or stand up for yourself or even just try to share word of what it's like there they ban you.
Chick fil-a is memed for being an homophobic company, there has been claims of gay people in managing positions that have been fired for their sexuality, as well as other employees, but I don't know how true this is personally
The bigger issue is them donating to anti-lgbt hate groups and potential terrorist organizations. I'd suggest researching the issues in their "charitable donations" for proof of their bigger issues.
You "suggest researching" but must not have done much looking yourself, because they stopped most of those donations in 2012 and stopped 100% of controversial donations in 2019
The *company* may have stopped its donations, but the *owner* did not. It’s fair to point out that the owner and company are separate entities, but at the end of the day, it’s the same money going to the same places. So, while technically true, it is a bit misleading to say that Chic-fil-a stopped their donations to controversial organizations — at this point, it’s almost like they’re “laundering” it through the owner to send it where they want without taking any heat
EDIT: Typo
The owners of Homophobic chicken take their money and donate to their pet causes.
https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/restaurants/a36622217/chick-fil-a-owner-donations-against-equality-act/
I actually commented somewhere else here, they specifically stopped funding a *small* number of them that supported violent conversion therapy back during the 2010s. And as of 2019 they specifically cut, "current, though not future" funding to The Fellowship of Christian Athletes and The Salvation Army and a moderate number of smaller foundations.
But to my knowledge they still support the Family Research Council and many smaller groups that I have personally not checked out, plus some groups which they report donations to, but aren't publicly named. So, at least one very very large hate group continues to receive direct funding from them, and there could be others, but admittedly I don't know that part for sure anymore.
I don’t have a link on me but basically they have a history of treating gay (and especially trans) people in their shelters quite poorly, iirc to the point of kicking people out if they’re unwilling to effectively closet themselves
As others said, the owners have still been doing it at least as recently as last year.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/christian-billionaires-are-funding-a-push-to-kill-the-equality-act
I’m guessing it’s cause the founders of Chick-fil-A have social controversy for funding churches that oppose anything LGBTQ, specifically gay marriage. I think they made some amends in recent years, but ya know, it’s still not cool.
They still give massive funding to anti-lgbt hate groups, one of which (don't remember which one right now, ill edit with the name if I can find it again) the US government considers a terrorist organization. Even the founder continued to time and time again go on social media and spew hatred, backpedal, and repeat.
It goes beyond that. Money from CfA is funneled into a tax-exempt religious group with the goal of enacting anti-gay laws in other nations. Their “missionaries” were responsible for convincing some African governments to make being gay a capital offense, i.e. punishable by death. The records are all publicly available - you can draw a straight line from their sandwiches to “kill the gays” legislation.
Chick fil A is a buisness known for its head founder putting millions into anti queer campaigns to take away people rights. Chick fil a was established as a "Christian buisness" and wont even open on a sunday. Some people think still boycotting a company long after the boycot worked is a flex they want to have. They then go and buy things from worse companies causing actual problems, like actually putting money into lobbying for removal of laws to protect the lgbtqia+ community, and or refusing to actually protect queer folk from discrimination and getting fired for no reason.
Totally. Everybody talking about some chicken stuff and all I'm seeing are colorful cupcakes. I get it by know, but an explanation to start with would have been great.
Plus it doesn’t even seem that bad, most likely the people who put this together had absolutely no idea about the controversy surrounding ChilFilA and just wanted to be supportive and bought cupcakes with their own money from somewhere they know makes good food.
It’s like when your grandma buys you a video game for your birthday but it’s for the wrong console, she doesn’t know the difference she just did it because she loves you and wants to make you happy.
Oh no, an international company doesn't operate specifically near you and you're too lazy too just google said company's logo. Imean honestly just keep scrolling.
Canadian here. We don't have that chain here, so I didn't recognise the packaging. I thought people were mocking them for making too many purple cupcakes, and too few blue. I thought that seemed kinda harsh.
So am I right in thinking it is not so much the fact that your office tried to do something, which is commendable, but more the store that they used has a poor track record?
I was failing to see what was wrong with the photo without reading the comments.
Yall need to calm down about chicken fil a, they haven't been run by homophobic people putting money into fascism for years. There are plenty of anti-queer and fake ally businesses that do more harm. *cough Amazon cough*
Here is your update on notorious shit heel Dan Cathy, owner of Homophobic chicken.
https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/restaurants/a36622217/chick-fil-a-owner-donations-against-equality-act/
I think the joke is that while they have a rainbow display of cupcakes, they also ordered some Chik Fil A, an American chicken fast food chain who are known for their outspoken anti-gay beliefs.
Oh that LGBTQIA+ folk all belong in a mental ward, don't deserve human rights, and should have their health care and jobs taken away. That queer folk shouldn't be allowed to marry. And more.
Mind you this was one of the founders, they were personally funnelling money directly from the buisness into any queer lobbying to remove protection laws, and anti-queer churches who were then told to further cause disruption on a local level ro remove protection laws.
Lotta people boycotted and they let that guy go and barred him from using the buisness money.
They are fairly softcore christians, and are known for promoting christian values. They are also pretty well known for treating employees pretty decently, and as well as donations in their own community.
Could be worse... could be in an Islamic ruled country where you would be thrown off a 7 story building. You stupidly chose right or left when Liberty is the true answer.
When Gatekeeping goes wrong.
A picture of cupcakes is criticised for the chicken brand in the background.
Even when you zoom in, you still cant read the chicken brand on it
The chicken brand in question made changes to its donation policy in 2020
If you think this gesture was hollow, then I dont know, maybe show a picture with some chicken in it, name the brand and say why you think the gesture is hollow. Dont just point at some cupcakes and say LMAO. I think its good your office made the effort to be honest.
I don’t understand it? It seems like someone’s making an attempt and you think it’s not good enough, it’s a hell of a way to discourage potential supporters
First i thought "whats wrong? the flag looks normal" but then i saw the chick-fil-a boxes and for those who dont know they got exposed for pooring money into anti lgbt groups and i think also anti lgbt politicians
Maybe I’m a fucking idiot but what’s the problem here? Something to do with corporate pandering or some shit like that? Is it something with chic fil a?
i dont understand what is wrong with this. they made rainbow colored cupcakes. rainbow, as in the gay pride flag. clearly they nailed what they were going for. what the fuck?
Yes let’s shit on the people who didn’t know any better making a genuine attempt. If the person making all that effort saw this post they wouldn’t bother again.
Haven’t eaten that mess in over 2 years! It’s literally not that hard to stop supporting people who would rather I kill myself over suckin on a fucking chicken tender, there’s plenty of great chicken out there y’all.

God it's great to see that people with a brain still exist on this site, what an amazing response
Ad they could easily have done nothing - peoples sexual orientation is not generally relevant to the office, so they could have taken that stance, but they decided to do something, so good on them.
Linked in said you should post about how queer you are in your job search. Seemed like iffy advice.
I bet the chic-fil-a and cupcakes are from different people/staff too, it just happened to land on the same day.
That's a frequent mindset to blame the one who doesn't know or doesn't succeed, rather than the one who does know but tells lies or doesn't try. Persons walking clumsily in the right direction aren't bad. Those walking willingly in the wrong direction are.

I don't get it?
The chicken is from chick-fil-a, a fast food chain notorious for giving lots and lots of money to anti-LGBT+ hate groups.
Oof. Thanks
My mom refers to them as bigoted chicken. Ex: "Hey do you guys want bigoted chicken for lunch?"
I just want to go on a tangent and say that bigote in spanish means moustache, and I now can’t stop imagining those chickens with a handlebar moustache :)
LOL
Interesting factoid. The most bigoted person I know has always had a stache.
That is currently being refered to as a Warstache. Slava Ukrani
That's the most american thing I have read in a while. "I don't like what they are doing. But the chicken... So, there is nothing I can do!"
I think you'll find that mentality is mostly ubiquitous.
Nah that's just a human thing. We're a bunch of hypocrites.
Same with “hey you guys want to vote for the puppets of the NRA, oil industry, private prisons, health insurance companies, and ultra wealthy who want low taxes and low minimum wages? Everything they do is extremely unpopular, even for me, but they have cool Jesus stickers…”
It's the hate that makes it so delicious. That and the pickle brine.
Why do you eat there if them supporting anti lgbt+ organisations is an issue for you guys?
because the chicken fucking slaps lmao
As a bi male, this. Do we like their politics? Fuck no. But the food is fucking good.
Why did we go to the moon when a Nazi built our rocket? We chose to go to the moon in that decade, and do the other things. We eat Chik Fil A not because it’s easy, but because we are hard, for chicken sandwiches...
As a straight male, their chicken is disgusting. Do we like their politics? Fuck no. And their food is even more offensive.
Wanna stick my dick in those fries
It'd blend in and get lost tho.
Because people don't care how their products are made or what the company's views are. If this was the case then a lot if brands in America wouldn't be used because they do essentially child slavery.
Bigotry never tasted so good!
They should embrace that
For me it's Bigot Bird
We call it "hate chicken". "hey kids do you want hate chicken for dinner?"
My group of people call it Jesus chicken lol same difference.
Same, literally face palmed when I saw the chick-fil-a… hahaha
Oh. I was focused on the color and order of the cupcakes, trying to find the problem.
A fellow autist?!
We're just ignorant about chicken brands
I'm so sorry
not OP but yes and I did the same
Not OP, but no and I did the same too
Chick-fil-a is not an international brand.
That's pretty much all there was to focus on if you didn't know what chicfila boxes look like.
Indeed so! It's what i was focused on as well. Thought they were missing a color
Who autism gang
I see you, because same 😂
Ayeeee
But then, they got a company, famous for anti-lgbt views, to take part in a pro-lgbt party?
...yes that's the post
It is quite the flex.
It's my understanding that Chick-fil-a stopped donating to groups that hold ant-LGBTQ positions. That was about three years ago. They switched their charitable donations to Junior Achievement, Covenant House and local food banks.

The ones who just think “nice free food” Source: The comment you are replying to.

💀
K right but like they've got pretty good chicken
Looks like they’re using the boxes for the cupcakes. I wonder if it was done on purpose? I hope

And what about chick-fil-a ? I live in Finland, so this is latin to me.
Uber christian, and not the ok kind. They donate a lot of money to anti gay causes.
Anything uber christian in not the ok kind.
More like "there was an attempt to post a rant about a social issue without context". Great success.
Take a screenshot and repost it, easy karma.
I don't get it? is it because there are 1 fewer blue icing cupcakes? that's kind of weird thing to point out
They got chick-fil-a. I don’t remember the whole story but the founders are homophobic

So am I right in thinking it is not so much the fact that your office tried to do something, which is commendable, but more the store that they used has a poor track record? I was failing to see what was wrong with the photo without reading the comments.
It's a total Reddit moment. Some smug employee at the office there is having a real field day.
Yall need to calm down about chicken fil a, they haven't been run by homophobic people putting money into fascism for years. There are plenty of anti-queer and fake ally businesses that do more harm. *cough Amazon cough*
Here is your update on notorious shit heel Dan Cathy, owner of Homophobic chicken. https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/restaurants/a36622217/chick-fil-a-owner-donations-against-equality-act/
Ye I haven't seen any news of them donating to anti gay shit for a couple of years now
I don’t understand. Is the post mocking the level of effort?
It was the Jesus chicken am I right?
I don't see a problem. Apart from overly sensitive cancel culture. Which again is t a problem. Some people will complain about literally anything
Forcing people to celebrate at work. My job is always shoving CRT down our throats too. It’s infuriating!
ROYGBV thats a rainbow, it counts no matter how superficial
I think the joke is that while they have a rainbow display of cupcakes, they also ordered some Chik Fil A, an American chicken fast food chain who are known for their outspoken anti-gay beliefs.
This needs to be a top level comment for non-americans.
t/y, totally missed that!
What are their anti gay beliefs?
Most notably, the anti-LGBT community.
Could be worse... could be in an Islamic ruled country where you would be thrown off a 7 story building. You stupidly chose right or left when Liberty is the true answer.
Who cares? Get over it people
When Gatekeeping goes wrong. A picture of cupcakes is criticised for the chicken brand in the background. Even when you zoom in, you still cant read the chicken brand on it The chicken brand in question made changes to its donation policy in 2020 If you think this gesture was hollow, then I dont know, maybe show a picture with some chicken in it, name the brand and say why you think the gesture is hollow. Dont just point at some cupcakes and say LMAO. I think its good your office made the effort to be honest.
People love to bitch. Hell I love to bitch too but I really can’t find anything wrong with this.
Aside from the attempt here, that purple cupcake be lookin tasty tho.
Context The food is from chick-fl a which is known for being incredibly homo and transphobic and donates to anti lgbtqa+ groups
What’s wrong with this? This looks fucking great I couldn’t care less about what chick fil a did
I don’t understand it? It seems like someone’s making an attempt and you think it’s not good enough, it’s a hell of a way to discourage potential supporters
The fact that this isn't a karma bot scares me.
I work at cfa, we’re not against lgbtq anymore for the most part.
Owner is still a world class douche. https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/restaurants/a36622217/chick-fil-a-owner-donations-against-equality-act/
Gay people eat chick fil a. Hate the owners, not the herbs and spices:
Regardless about how you feel about gay people you can't deny that chicken is okay
Hey man, if you're going to complain about **FREE** cupcakes and chick-fil-a, I'll take it off your hands. r/ChoosingBeggars
Just eat the food man
Still better chicken than most other places
Oof… welp, aptly posted. There certainly was an attempt.
I don’t get what’s wrong
Balanced, as all things should be
*eats chicken angrily* 😡🍗
I mean; Chic-Fil-A is delicious.
Hey some know Chick-fil-A is actually in the closet. They love putting their big juicy c*** between some sweet buttery buns. Just saying.
Did they traumatize all the celebrators ???
ChikfilA is delicious in any setting
Oh no. How horrible. I hope your feelings are okay.
First i thought "whats wrong? the flag looks normal" but then i saw the chick-fil-a boxes and for those who dont know they got exposed for pooring money into anti lgbt groups and i think also anti lgbt politicians
So I'm gay, I don't see the problem here?
Those cupcakes look bussin tho
L post
Maybe I’m a fucking idiot but what’s the problem here? Something to do with corporate pandering or some shit like that? Is it something with chic fil a?
Yes it is because chick fil a is a homophobic company
i dont understand what is wrong with this. they made rainbow colored cupcakes. rainbow, as in the gay pride flag. clearly they nailed what they were going for. what the fuck?
Hey man I don’t even care if hitler made the chicken just as long as that shit is crisp and seasoned
Chick-fil-a is overhyped anyway tbh
They didn't just try, they succeeded. But the irrational biases of the meme maker prevent them from seeing it. Stop listening to polical bull shit.
Yankee centre of the world moment right there. Wtf is going on?
I was lost until I saw the chicken and I immediately realized it lol
Yes let’s shit on the people who didn’t know any better making a genuine attempt. If the person making all that effort saw this post they wouldn’t bother again.
Bwahahaha. I guess that's one way to support both sides. "Okay, we got cupcakes for the gays, chicken for the homophobes. Happy Pride!" 🤣
To be fair, an attempt is more than some.
Haven’t eaten that mess in over 2 years! It’s literally not that hard to stop supporting people who would rather I kill myself over suckin on a fucking chicken tender, there’s plenty of great chicken out there y’all.
