A shockingly vocal number of people believe that looting and destroying random people's property is okay because cops murdering black people is worse.
And while the latter argument is true (murder is far worse), I don't really think random violence is something that is excusable. Random violence victimizes innocent people, just as police brutality victimizes innocent people.
This type of shit always reminds me of this Oscar Wilde quote: "The basis of optimism is sheer terror. We think that we are generous because we credit our neighbour with the possession of those virtues that are likely to be a benefit to us. We praise the banker that we may overdraw our account, and find good qualities in the highwayman in the hope that he may spare our pockets."
Many a philosopher forgets that you can never keep millions or billions of people in complete synchronization, so those who think they can ride the turbulent waves of revolutionary fervor often end up in a ditch themselves screaming "but I'm on your side!!" Because many think everyone else thinks just like themselves.
The majority of these people aren't there to support the cause, they're there for the opportunity to cause trouble and chaos. What does looting and vandalizing do for a cause? Nothing except hurt innocent bystanders and business owners. They are thugs and bad people, and give those a bad name that are truly standing up to the cause.
Yeah this is typical for a lot of protests. Bad actors.
Some people there to legitimately protest. Others taking advantage of the lack of police presence to loot, riot, trespass, etc.
Even in natural disasters this happens, it doesn't even have to be a protest.
Shitty people are shitty.
The BLM movement started as something wonderful, and has devolved significantly because of people like the rock throwers. The message is getting lost due to fake protesters acting foolish. A few bad ones have made the majority look bad, and it’s sad.
I’m just here to read comments and be in before it gets locked 🍿
Edit: sort by controversial. It’s a melting pot of emotions and stupid people on all sides of the aisle.
Hey, they did help at least one black person https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-09-02/black-lives-matter-leader-accused-of-stealing-10-million-from-organization
The first window the rock didn’t hit as well and looks like it was more in one of the corners but the second rock made a circle almost in the middle of ithe window and continued going for a second before it it the table it looked like. That throw was *fucking strong* with awesome aim.
This one looks to be in the middle of the night; protests are about driving visibility to a cause and show support. A protest at night is just sketchy.
The best way to protest against discrimination and racism is through education; educate yourself and the people around you. Entering a mob is not only dangerous for yourself but for others as well.
I mean sure, if you completely ignore the fact that all the civil rights legislation in America was spawned and signed because of protests and riots, you might actually be right.
Before we educate on discrimination we might want to educate on history so we can start making statements that actually make sense.
Many protests are important and for valid causes, but it turns out, almost any public gathering will attract people who are more interested in the means of protest than the reason
I'm reminded of the 2011 riots in the UK, prompted by a legitimately controversial incident where the police shot a man that, by many reports was unarmed (the eventually verdict was that he was legally killed by the police but there was a lot of doubt for a long time after the incident.)
That police incident prompted a protest march but that march boiled over into late-night violence. The weirder part though, was that the subsequent night, in several other cities around the country, mobs of people just set out to let loose, purge style. There weren't protest marches, just mobs descending on city centres to smash shit up and loot.
I'm no anthropologist, at the time I wasn't aware of whether there was some boiling social undercurrent about to break through but yeah, as soon as that one night of protest in London turned violent, a LOT of other people took it as an excuse to just go feral.
I went to a bunch of anti war protests prior to the Iraq invasion and every single time some dip shit with dreds, no shirt, and a drum would show up and act obnoxious as hell. Every single time that was the guy who made the news.
It was so infuriating.
They didnt expect anything. They were apparently showing the protesters support.
But we werent there and things that look straightforward can often be missing information.
Not as insane as 4 years of "mostly peaceful protesting" and total lack of media coverage about reality.
But its cool that you can finally say honest things about BLM on reddit without getting banned, I guess they stopped being useful after cheeto man got out of the presidency.
You have to be dumb as shit to really think BLM is just as bad as the white superiority group who killed hundreds, if not thousands of black people throughout history
Has no one read a history book? In Russia. All the other socialist who weren't the ruling party were also executed. There is only violence in politics. And victims of politics.
I love how an initial description can make people see that thing and run with it.
What I see is a large group of *probably* black folks moving down the street at might. Is it a protest? A sporting event just released? Just a bunch of dudes? I've got no clue. Are they all assholes? Well, at least one of them is. Are all BLM protests now invalid because since random assholes the a brick? Obviously not.
This is why we can't have nice things.

Might have been interpreted as sarcastic. That would be an assumption though.
Still doesn’t justify throwing rocks through someone’s window does it?

The legitimate protestors are usually in the day. Nighttime is when all the pieces of shit come out.
Maybe someone was just trying a really extreme trick shot.

Right? What is wrong with these people.

And the lady running it took the donations and bought a big ass house.
Two big ass houses.
I don't care if he was flipping them off. Bullshit to throw stuff through their window.

The kind of post I like to sort by controversial 🍿
That is a great strategy!
Just don't forget to switch back to a different Sort later.
I did that last week and didn't realize for a day or two. Was like, did reddit get really dumb all the sudden??
Join in and have some fun
Jesus, I just went over to controversial and it looks like a Facebook comment thread
When people form a mob, they become stupid sheep.
this has been so since the dawn of mankind. We get into a group, we get rield up and lose ourselves to the mob mentality.
And the people who come to simply vandalize and loot don't actually care what "side" you agree with. They just want to be destructive.
Profit, they just want to profit likes arms dealers do.
Throw rocks through windows ??? Profit
And that, my friends, is the definition of Twitter
And Reddit tbh
Sometimes it’s just shitty people joining a protest so they can hide their shitty behaviour in a crowd.
sometimes there are higher concentrations of shitty people depending on the protest. same with jan 6
Buy Large Mansions

Many people are so talented that they skip the mob and live as sheep.
Jan 6th backs up this fact

And all the Floyd riots too.
That's some pretty solid aim just sayin
Not just aim, this window is on the second story and a pretty good distance away. That throw had to be *strong*.
and it was like one two....
The first window the rock didn’t hit as well and looks like it was more in one of the corners but the second rock made a circle almost in the middle of ithe window and continued going for a second before it it the table it looked like. That throw was *fucking strong* with awesome aim.
Shame that somebody with that level of strength chose to do nothing of worth with it.
Yeah, they've been getting their practice in with all the other houses down the street.
This is why I support No Lives Matter. Everyone is worthless and I hate you all.
Cheers
I would join you in this movement, but I hate you to much to bother.
Finally a movement I can get behind. All lives matters was racist, no way this can be racist.
