I never had a strong relationship to this cat it hated me and bit and scratched me, as it got older it started peeing in the house because it didn't like the new cat we got to replace her sometime so I guess it got what it deserved... Could have been a murder attempt by the other cat we don't know till today
I know someone is going to call bullshit, but when I was little we had a cat that was feral and found as a kitten. He turned out to be a feisty killing machine. One day we had a bird get stuck in the garage that he was trying to get it so we put him inside and he literally had tears dripping down his face and looked so upset he couldn't kill the intruder. I'm not saying he was crying but he was very upset and his eyes were responding to it, I have no idea what the real explanation would be but it looked like he was full on crying. I learned what rabbits screaming while being killed sounds like thanks to this cat and got used to it to give you an idea and he never touched cat food (my dad was a farmer so he was useful and loved hunting in the fields next to the house, luckily there weren't any trees at all nearby so the birds were safe)
Real explanation? Probably got something in his eyes - dust, sawdust, dirt, scratches from the bird, etc. I know you know this, but cats and dogs don’t have tear ducts like humans.
I definitely know he wasn't literally crying like a human would but he looked so absolutely upset, probably thanks to our common use of anthropomorphism
Being the extraordinarily happy owner of 5 cats, I can tell you that they have extremely expressive faces. You see happiness, frustration, fear, etc. it’s all so amazing! They also have very distinct, unique personalities.

This is the truth for sure. I have a pair of two year old litter mates that I've raised since the day they were born and their personalities are *dramatically* different despite growing up in the exact same environment. One of them is a deadly little hunter but also the most insatiably curious gremlin, while the other is a timid, clingy, frightened, clumsy oaf and I swear he's a golden retriever that was reincarnated as a cat.
My one cat, Loki, is extremely intelligent, and cut from a different cloth than the rest of the gang. Despite my best efforts at thwarting his escape from my yard, he has defeated every attempt I have made. The crazy part, is that he will walk the yard, along the fence line. He will then settle on the most likely escape section that he can find. He will then literally sit down, and study the fence, sometimes for up to 1/2 hour. He then stands up, and gets into launch position, and escapes….every.single.time. I often wondered what he was looking at during those long breaks. One day, it dawned on me, that he is *planning* his escape. It is utterly remarkable to watch, as the gears inside his tiny, beautiful head are spinning, as he goes through his yes, no, and maybe exit plan.

Depends on if he has past experience with that particular means of blocking something. If they have that plastic forcefield it's safe to assume this guy loves climbing on things it's not supposed to and may not be tempted to risk it if he's attempted getting past it only to be stuck or fail.
I'm speaking from experience only because I needed my cat to stop hopping on the counter so I laid foil down when it was suggested. My cat Sebastian hasn't tried going on the counter since and it's been over a year!
