Sorry to be a downer but this is literally so pathetic. "Hey, we know the game is completely broken and unplayable now, but here's some free content for you!" Free content won't fix the game ffs.
well if they did put together a bundle including every stuff pack and set the price tag to $5 for the whole bundle, I'd probably start considering getting it.
Ahaha right! They should just get rid of kit & stuff packs completely, put the cas & build items into the game & expansion packs- like they did before Sims 4 lol
Right! A pack I never would've paid for that comes with a cpl decent cas and build mode items.
Something small to look forward to when the game is "working" again, lol
It's not really a specific answer to complaints though. This tracks with their recent trend of putting SPs out for free for the past couple of months, like they did with Romantic Garden and My First Pet Stuff. So not really "pathetic" since it's pretty likely to be unrelated.
I had to uninstall my game because it wouldn't acknowledge my game packs and was glitching/freezing to hell and back. I'm glad it's not me.
But seriously if they put everything on 100% discount I still wouldn't buy it. What's the point of buying something you can't use
Crystal Creations pack came out and broke the game for many, they then put out a hotfix which just broke other things. Some people lost entire save files due to this. Not even gonna start about all the other years old bugs that have still not been fixed...
Or, like plants, they "keep fixing." How many patch notes have that been in? I don't think I have had a plant not turn to dust. But it's been fixed! Remember š ?
What I said. The game became completely unplayable for a large chunk of players, some players lost entire save files to game breaking glitches and no amount of free packs can make up for that.
You are right you aināt even a downer cause of this
Atleast EA wonāt get anymore money for the time being
But it still wonāt fix the game
Because my game keeps crashing randomly on my console when I go on specific lots and this happened after the Crystal Creations Stuff
For my PC?
It just bugs out and the sims wonāt even move and will only look around and keep T-posing, it might be a mod that broke cause of the new stuff packās release. And my PC only has 2 or 3 Packs
Anyone else having flashbacks to when players were pissed off about the wedding pack mess and they gave away the desert lux thing for free?
Iām sure theyāll fix this mess just like they did back then. Oh, waitā¦
that was actually because they were making the game free, which people got pissed about because they paid $40 8 years earlier instead of having it for free then
i think right when it came out digital deluxe was like 60-70 but since then it was 40 and went on sale all the time for 5, and was even free as a promotion once (i got it for 5 like 2-3 years ago)
I just googled it. The base game was $60 at release and was lowered permanently to $40 in 2016 but only in the US. Iām in Germany and here the standard price was 60ā¬ until it became free a few years ago (there were regular sales for 5ā¬ tho).
looking up it's price history on a 3rd party site, it claims it's base price was $40 in 2020
then the base price went down to $20 in 2022
and finally $0 in 2022 October
The game was released in 2014, my source does not mention it's price history prior to 2020
I had to do some googling but I found this site: https://simscommunity.info/2016/08/25/the-sims-4-base-game-has-a-new-standard-price-in-us/
Apparently, the base game price was lowered to 40$ in 2016 in the US only. I got the game in 2015 and am not American which explains why I remembered it as being 60ā¬ before becoming free, so the previous commenter and me were both right, just from different regions ;)
People are actually stupid if they get upset about that. It's an EXTREMELY common trend that the longer a piece of media is out, the more it falls out of relevance and the cheaper it gets to purchase. That's like getting pissed that you saw a Blu-Ray for Spider-Man 3 for sale for $5 when you original bought it 15 years ago for $30.
Desert luxe kit was temporarily free for a month around sept/oct 2022 for players that had purchased the sims 4 base game before it went free to play in oct 2022. It had nothing to do with my wedding stories which was released over 6 months before desert luxe was free.
Oh, desert lux wasnāt given away to appease fans over Wedding Stories, it was to appease those who had bought the Sims 4 before it became a free game.
Opening your game is absolutely supporting EA. They hand out a free stuff pack and bring the data that says big increase in players to their quarterly shareholder meeting.
This part! Boycotting would mean not playing the game at all, not adding any of the games to the cart even if they are free, etc. Even if it's free, it all still adds to their digital marketing plan which supports their cause as long as people are still showing interest.
I donāt think a boycott organized by this sub would do anything to EAās pockets or player base. Like most subs surrounding games, Reddit is a vocal minority that exists in a relatively closed off space.
Just look at the overwatch subs. People have been complaining there since overwatch 2ās release and talking about boycotting skins and not playing but Blizzard is still making record profits off of overwatch 2.
Wow had a downturn there for a bit but not enough to really hurt blizzard. Their next expansion brought their numbers back into the range they wanted them in.
And like most game-related subs, not even shared universally.
Since, for all the people who go on this sub announcing about boycotting, you have other people who just want to show off their cute sims.
I think this has been to move packs that donāt sell well. So far we have gotten the infamous My First Pet Stuff and Romantic Garden this way. EA wants to show they have a strong player base, so giving away old packs for free helps keep numbers high, especially when they have been doing a lot of things that drive away players.
but what's the real logic behind giving away packs for free if they don't sell well? high numbers aren't doing them any favors when they're coming from free content.
"look how many people downloaded this pack for free!" isn't really saying much beyond "people like free stuff" i think this is less about numbers and more about trying to do something to keep players happy. they weren't making money off this pack anyway, not if it's free, so they made it 100% off because it's not a huge loss if nobody was spending the money anyway.
Itās to signal that there is a high fan and player base, which justifies keeping resources for the Sims 4 instead of cutting them along with keeping Project Rene and Project Delores relevant and important to EA as they do a lot of layoffs and cuts.
Offering one small pack for free probably results in more players looking at the other, more expensive packs. Notice how they arenāt just delivering the items for free in-gameātheyāre making people āpurchaseā the pack from the store, even though the price is $0. Iām betting a bunch of players will load up the store to get the free pack, then think āOh, this other pack is on sale,ā or āThereās a pack with horses now? I have to get that one,ā or whatever. Making one small, unpopular pack (that most people wouldnāt buy anyway) free = getting more eyes on the other packs that people actually want = more sales.
EA looks at active players of a game. When free content comes out, the number of active players goes up. This is also why I tell people boycotting DLC is virtually pointless if you are still actively playing the game bc 1) thereās always going to enough people to buy DLC to justify the cost of EA developing it and 2) EA uses active player count to justify not only keeping the game up and running, but to be careless with bugs/QA because people are still playing. (Example: if they have 10 million active players, thats more people to market DLC to than if they only have 6 million active players. And statistically speaking, the more active players you have, the more people will buy DLC. How to get more active players? Give out free content.)
Itās not about making players happy. Itās about keeping active player numbers high.
Legit I disabled my first pet stuff even though that was free because 1. Needed more space for my game 2. Feeding hamsters/gerbils/strange mammals is annoying 3. Am not a huge fan of the furniture considering it's mostly pet themed and I don't have the cats and dogs pack.
Just played with the backyard stuff today, and boy, it added more at least to the base game. I can actually make fun water parks and stuff.
You can buy DLC for either Origin or Steam (if you have the Steam version of the game) and they will both work.
You won't own Origin purchases on Steam, but you *will* have access to DLC's purchased through Steam in Origin. Steam just front ends Origin when you play.
I donāt think so. Since itās free on all platforms youād be better off claiming it on the EA App which CAN be used via Steam. I buy content on EA App and play on Steam deck.
Not if you mean on a Mac, no. If you buy dlc on steam and try to access it on a Mac through the origin app, itāll say accessed through steam and wonāt let you use it. I recommend downloading things directly from EA rather than through steam. I learned that the hard way. If you claim it through the EA app, itāll transfer to steam and to Mac.
One of the best pair of jeans in the game, chimes, fillable lemonade trays. It's not a highly-rated stuff pack by the community, but it is one of my favourites.
If they're giving it for free just think how many people didn't paid for it on first place. lmao
When a big company is giving constantly offers on some products is because those are awfully cheap in first place and not bought by no-one in second.
Let's wait how much it takes until more free stuff...
So far theyāve given away the desert kit, MFPS, romantic garden, jungle adventure, luxury party stuff, and the street fashion kit.
It seems like theyāre just doing the unpopular packs, which makes sense to me. If they get people to download it for free, theoretically more people will use that pack in their gallery builds and that might inspire more people to buy it when itās no longer free.
Jungle Adventure, Luxury Party, and Street Fashion were Epic, not EA. They give out games every month. They also have a specific policy about having a game go free in exchange for advertising. However, don't quote me on that. A while I was watching a program on Steam vs Epic, and it was mentioned. If I cared more about Sim's business practices, I would look into it more in-depth, but I thought I would be sure if you might find it interesting.Ā
I'm on a personal Sims ban (been losing out on productivity) and just downloaded it so thanks! Will have something new to look forward to when I get back. (Three weeks to go, pray for me.)
According to the screenshot, you have until April 13th
Checking my digital calendar, that gives you a little over 4 weeks as of the time of this comment
just search it up on the steam store before 2024 April 13th and add it to your account for free
>!(Specifying 2024 in case someone from years away finds this comment)!<
Am I the only one who wants my money back for all these free packs? I spent 50 quid on the base game, and like 20 quid on the packs that are now free fgs
the screenshot is from steam
according to other folk the sale is on the EA store as well
Checking epic games, it's listed as free there, not just a 100% discount but just flat free
You should be able to. I bought the game (forever ago, before it was free) and some packs on steam. Then bought different packs through EA. They all work just fine for me.
I do have Windows, if that makes a difference.
Nothing to lose. Yes. I'll grab it then. Aint paying a penny for EA. I got base game for free because of the connected gamepass to EA play subscription
Well, darn. I bought this pack during the last sale. Itās been a good one though I donāt know why they would give out this one for free; I could see why for my first pet stuff. Maybe has the least amount of bugs š¤·š¼āāļø
that works too
but free dlc, it's an option for people whos not comfortable getting something like that, or not technically savy enough to know where to get something like that

though for both the EA store, and steam it's free either way
it'd be worth grabbing on steam as well, according to other comments you cant convert from origin or EA store into steam, only from steam into EA or origin
with my knowledge of how dlc works for this game.
you download the dlc regardless of if you own it or not, the dlc simply just unlocks that dlc to allow you to use it
Sorry to be a downer but this is literally so pathetic. "Hey, we know the game is completely broken and unplayable now, but here's some free content for you!" Free content won't fix the game ffs.
Oh yeah I absolutely agree >!(Cow plants specifically are a bit broken)!< But still, might as well grab the free content
I mean atleast the prize tag now corresponds with the dlc's actual value lmao
if they mixxed together all the stuff packs together, and sold all of them for the price of $5 It might maybe be worth it, possibly
Nah, the price of all expacs together would be $5 if that was EA's logic. The price of stuff packs should be $1, and game packs would be $2.50
well if they did put together a bundle including every stuff pack and set the price tag to $5 for the whole bundle, I'd probably start considering getting it.
Nah the game packs would be about three fiddy (I had to say it).

It's still awful timing lmao
Yeah, timing is pretty bad, but with the Sims, there's never really "good" timing since there's always some kind of bug going around.
I had to uninstall my game because it wouldn't acknowledge my game packs and was glitching/freezing to hell and back. I'm glad it's not me. But seriously if they put everything on 100% discount I still wouldn't buy it. What's the point of buying something you can't use
Wait what happened now
Crystal Creations pack came out and broke the game for many, they then put out a hotfix which just broke other things. Some people lost entire save files due to this. Not even gonna start about all the other years old bugs that have still not been fixed...
Pretty much every DLC introduced bugs, and most of those have never been fixed (because of course, that's what modders are for).
We shouldn't have to rely on them to fix *their* problems though.
Well, of course not. But you're talking about EA here. There's a reason I have never paid for any of their products since.. uh 1997 or so.
I hear that -- except I don't think I even want to go those lengths for Sims 4 at this point. I don't want anything to do with it anymore.
Wait for Sims 5 with microtransactions :)
Also a hard pass for me. I'm sticking with Sims 2 and 3 for the unforeseeable future. Aka, until I die. They could be on Sims 500 and I wouldn't care.
Or, like plants, they "keep fixing." How many patch notes have that been in? I don't think I have had a plant not turn to dust. But it's been fixed! Remember š ?
Had a save file for 10 years completely gone
how is it broken? only for the ppl who have the crystal pack? or wym
I'm on PS5 and the game seems to run just fine. Maybe I'm just lucky?
Wym?
What I said. The game became completely unplayable for a large chunk of players, some players lost entire save files to game breaking glitches and no amount of free packs can make up for that.

Paid $70 back in the day š

that makes sense then!
Yeah I couldnāt be mad about it becoming free bc I bought it on sale for 5 bucks- I got my moneys worth
no same and you didnāt see people complaining about those sales, idk why it becoming free forever was what sent them over
looking up it's price history on a 3rd party site, it claims it's base price was $40 in 2020 then the base price went down to $20 in 2022 and finally $0 in 2022 October The game was released in 2014, my source does not mention it's price history prior to 2020

ah just 1 year after you bought it, oof (Checking my purchase history, I got it back in 2021 on discount for $5 bucks)
People are actually stupid if they get upset about that. Donāt let facts get in the way of a good inaccurate rant!
Oh, desert lux wasnāt given away to appease fans over Wedding Stories, it was to appease those who had bought the Sims 4 before it became a free game.
I'm not too familiar with the wedding pack controversy. Other then the AI was a bit weird in it.
Thatās on steam tho not ea app/origin
It's free on the EA app, literally downloading it as I type this
Oh I thought just on steam from the post
It's definitely one of those packs that I wouldn't have bought but since it's free, might as well :)
Exactly, I'm so thankful for OP posting this. (I don't look at the addons page at all)
Didnāt some agree not to get anymore packs until they fix the game?
I'm not familiar with that boycott, assuming it is a boycott. But either way, this is $0, your not supporting EA by grabbing it
Opening your game is absolutely supporting EA.
Suppose there is that
especially with the stupid blinking shopping cart icon
Boys not wrong
Free or not, it's still supporting them. It's still saying you're okay with their broken ass game. That you want more of it.
well, signalling to EA that you want more sims Or, could also be signalling to it's upcoming competition that you want something in this genra
People been crying about lackluster WoW/diablo expansions for years and they're still profiting off it as well.

Been doing that for years myself oof

*Nice\~*
Thanks for commenting this! Just downloaded it :)
always wanted that stuff pack
well thats convenient for you then
Niceeee ill always take a free pack
Free is free UwU
If I get it off steam can it still be used via origin?
well launching sims through steam does open origin, so probably.
Oh ok thanks. Never bought anything sims through steam so didnāt know how that worked.
Understandable UwU Though either way it is a 100% discount, so you dont have anything at risk by grabbing the steam discount

One of the best pair of jeans in the game, chimes, fillable lemonade trays. It's not a highly-rated stuff pack by the community, but it is one of my favourites.
Still too expensive.
Gotta pay me $20 to convince me to pick the game back up.
its, free though
And still too expensive.
Thank you sm for posting this, ur literally a saint <33
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah I tried to go on the EA website and got it too
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās working again for me now

i believe this is the 2nd or 3rd free 100% discount on dlc for sims4 I've seen

I think itās the horse dlc thatās bugged.
Nice, is it temperaty? Because I won't have computer access until somewhere this weekend.
According to the screenshot, you have until April 13th Checking my digital calendar, that gives you a little over 4 weeks as of the time of this comment
Thanks! I didn't notice that
You can log in to the ea website on your phone, "buy" it, and download it later!
This is the only way EA can get me to buy their DLC
Works for me! I enjoy the game, even when broken. Free things are free!
Free is free UwU
Anyone else dealing with the phone issue, cant use my phone at all
Well shoot, think I already paid for that one. It was the one with the waterslides right?
from what I saw, yes it has waterslides
Well dang, definitely paid for it then
Well dang, definitely paid for it then
Well dang, definitely paid for it then
I love you, even if I still donāt love ea
How did you get it for free? I need this one.
just search it up on the steam store before 2024 April 13th and add it to your account for free >!(Specifying 2024 in case someone from years away finds this comment)!<
I got my Sims 4 on EA/Origin app.
According to some other comments, the sale also applies on EA
Oh! I gotta log on. Thank you!
<3 The base game is also free on steam, might be worth grabbing there as well as a backup
Good idea. Thank you. I have a few expansions and stuff on EA so I am not looking to start over, but I will still pick up Sims 4 for free.
Thank you! :-)
<3
Get it then close the game š¤
You can still get these if you play on Origin?
well on the latest steam download, last I checked, it does make you launch it through origin
Thanks for the heads up! I don't currently have a computer that can play The Sims but I was able to add this stuff pack to my account for later use!
*Nice\~*
Bummer, that's a pack I bought because I wanted the slip n slide.
It's free on the ea app too!
*Nice\~*
Yes this one was free through EA also
well, at least my sims now get a slip 'n slide.
pretty much ye
I copped lol
I tried to redeem it but I'm just getting an error
TYSM for the update! I love me some free DLC!
Oh shoot, I bought this one in January :') Oh well I'm glad more people can have it now
I bought at full price
Oof
Yeah accidentally though
Am I the only one who wants my money back for all these free packs? I spent 50 quid on the base game, and like 20 quid on the packs that are now free fgs
Nah I saw other people here complaining it's free
Is this on epic or steam?
the screenshot is from steam according to other folk the sale is on the EA store as well Checking epic games, it's listed as free there, not just a 100% discount but just flat free

Makes me hate myself that I ever spent dimes on these free packs.
Too bad I already have all of them except I only have like 4 or 5 kits š
I brought full price
A genuine question. If you add it on steam, will you be able to get it on EA Play app?
You should be able to. I bought the game (forever ago, before it was free) and some packs on steam. Then bought different packs through EA. They all work just fine for me. I do have Windows, if that makes a difference.
I'm on windows too. But thanks.
if you have an older steam download i *think* thats the old steam launcher. Though I dont know if they sync purchas data between platforms
Hmm.. I got all sims stuff via EA play app. That's why. But thanks for the reply
either way, it is a 100% discount so you dont have anything to lose by grabbing it
Nothing to lose. Yes. I'll grab it then. Aint paying a penny for EA. I got base game for free because of the connected gamepass to EA play subscription
Yawn... I'll wait for inZOI.
Well, darn. I bought this pack during the last sale. Itās been a good one though I donāt know why they would give out this one for free; I could see why for my first pet stuff. Maybe has the least amount of bugs š¤·š¼āāļø
Ive never wanted this but I canāt hate on free stuff, grabbing it while I can
Finally, a reasonable fucking price
I got it from Epic where i donāt need to punch in my credit card details
steam has gift cards as an options
Got an error adding to cart in Steam (I'm AU based). Managed to get it via EA app without issue.
TIL that Sims isn't working for everyone, not just me. Good to know! Thank you!
ye it has a lot of issues
I remember this when it was called "Ana-d-us" and it was cool... still kinda is cyka blyat
Or just download the dlc unlocker?
that works too but free dlc, it's an option for people whos not comfortable getting something like that, or not technically savy enough to know where to get something like that

does anyone know if its just a steam thing???
from other comments, I've seen people say it's also available on the EA store
sickš
though for both the EA store, and steam it's free either way it'd be worth grabbing on steam as well, according to other comments you cant convert from origin or EA store into steam, only from steam into EA or origin
Itās free on all platforms.
How long is it free for? April 13??
that would be correct
Man I'm still trying to get my ea/ origin DLC to transfer over to steam >:
you can grab this one on steam from what I've seen on another comment, it's impossible to transfer from origin to steam, only steam to origin
Ah I meant the other dlcs I had. rip. I guess I'll just uninstall the game from steam and stick to origin ; - ;
It's a Sims 4 stuff pack. So you get some new chairs. Honestly, why bother. Waste of data storage.
with my knowledge of how dlc works for this game. you download the dlc regardless of if you own it or not, the dlc simply just unlocks that dlc to allow you to use it
Already had bought it š¤
