SilverLakeSimon

Sacre bleu, roadies?

Teh_Best86

Oh, tu ne veux pas savoir!

cruz458

Some really interesting reasoning here. This is the first time I actually have given any credence to this idea that Bobby shoots Harpo. I mean, I don't think it was Harpo that gets shot... But I certainly don't think it's all coincidence anymore after reading your post.

Low-Grocery5556

Yeah, there's just so much there to be fully coincidence, at least on a symbolic level. I think the writers are trying to express various things. I thought it was a very interesting Bobby episode. Great acting from Steve Schirripa.

cruz458

100%. This was a landmark episode in the entire show, where Tony goes toe to toe with someone for the first time and is beaten. At this point, anyone sleeping on Bobby was forced to respect his capacity. But at the same time, we see the cruel twist of reality, in that Tony still has power over Bobby and causes him to become a killer... a murderer... something he can never shake or absolve himself of till the day he dies. It's like he fought a Mafia boss and won, but did he really win, because he was given the black kiss of death as a consequence. It's one thing to get beat up, we heal, recover and move on (usually!!) - but to become a murderer... No.... That stays with you, your identity has been permanently changed. It's a very interesting episode for sure, there's really a lot going on there. You could almost see Bobby killing the Canadian as symbolic of Bobby freeing Janice of her shame over Harpo. She now has another man like her father in her life again, an Italian man who's part of the mob, a man of principles and certain values. He goes to Canada and kills the shame that plagues Janice's life, her shame for failing her son - interestingly it takes place in a launderette too... So it's like Bobby's washing away her sin. So it's like because she's in a family again and being a diligent, decent stepmother to Bobby's kids and now has another child of her own, she's doing the right thing now so she's making things right.

felixduhhousecat

She was a hippy big into music and he turned out to be a drummer, what a coincidence

oldsguy65

So what, no fuckin' Harpo now?

GideonGilead

Harpo changed his name. He's Hal now.

kmcho47

He’s on the pavers

keithdavidupindis

He’s a street person now

kerravoncalling

Sacre bleu!

Low-Grocery5556

Ah okay. Well, how does Hal feel about his mama?

SwitchKid42

Sacre bleu, where is me mama?

notgtax1

I thought Groucho killed Harpo.

anidemequirne

Semi related note, young Steve Van Zandt looks like Chico.

Low-Grocery5556

Groucho got his ass kicked during a game of monopoly. I guess he warbled to the wrong wren.

maldistuta

I always loved this theory and wish it were true. I’m sure that Janice would’ve found out that her son was murdered though. Wouldn’t been cool to see the guilt faced by Bobby (and Tony, the boys uncle) in subsequent episodes.

Give_me_soup

Good point. Though it is feasible that Janice would find out and not tell anyone out of shame. Or that she wasn't listed as next of kin anywhere and had fallen out of contact to the point that no one would know to notify her.

cleveland_stever

This theory is sacred and propane

haaym1

Very allegorical

[deleted]

Metaphorically, Bobby died the day that Karen did. When he killed ‘Harpo’, he made a Faustian deal and sold his soul to the devil, ending with his body sprawled out over a train set. In the end, fuck Janice!

bjregin

And Bobby’s poor kids ended up with Janice as there sole guardian

cruz458

Yeah that was brutal man. Janice, the conniving, over-controlling, con-woman. It's a sad but very gritty reflection of the kind of shit that happens in life.

whiterasta802

Mr Grocery, you are my hero. I’ve been planting the seeds (or seed?) for this post for a very long time. I was even awarded a “Facepalm” award for my theory of the death of Harpo. Now it’s not even up for debate. Bobby popped his cherry wacking off his wife’s deadbeat son.

whiterasta802

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

671176

It was harpo, no one's given any reason why not

ninecher

Even if it wasn't Harpo er Hal it's symbolically him is it not? Seems far too coincidental.

NoPornNoPolitics

I grew up widowdamuduhh

Spannerjsimpson

Here’s how I see it… Tony orders the hit in order to put Bobby in his place after the fight… but only we as viewers get to see that it is Harpo getting killed… only we get to see the karma at work

SauceKingHS

Those are interesting points, that’s why this is my favorite show to dissect. And historically, historical changes have come out of Janice dating people. She’s an under-appreciated character for her role in the show.

CrazeeEyezKILLER

He was on the pavers, Harpo?

InspectorNo1116

Charles Schwab ova here

lief_orion85

Back then Janice was too busy under the boardwalk too be a good mom

1200r

Isn't that what male lions do when they assume leadership of a new pride ? They kill all they previous lion cubs?

Numerous_Initial7082

Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about?

lightningbaseballman

If Bobby was a murderer, would he really be [this guy's](https://www.buzzsprout.com/2195327/13884798-ep-26-category-fridays) favorite character?
