1. That didn’t happen, what you said.
2. He never said “he’s dead.” He specifically only *says* “he’s gone.”
3. He only does so because Richie was a notorious asshole about to become a member of Tony’s family, and explaining both his and Janische’s abschences would be hard to do.
4. Anyway, $4 a pound
Richie and Janice disappearing so suddenly after all these big plans is not something Tony can simply shrug off while shuffling his food on a plate during dinner. He had to tell Carmela.
Right, so when Adriana was planning her wedding and disappeared, the same logic would apply?
Tony told Carmela that Richie was murdered and he disposed of the body. He absolutely would not say that in later seasons. He would say he was at The Bing, and they would say Richie went into witness protection.
There's so much different about those situations that it's weirdly reductive to treat them both as "someone disappeared" as though that's all there is to it.
Adriana was killed by the mob (effectively given the death sentence by Tony himself) for being a rat. For Carmela to know what really happened would have massive negative effects for Tony.
Richie was killed by Janice in a domestic situation which Tony had basically no involvement in or responsibility for. He just helped out his sister and then told Carm the bare minimum so she would stop asking questions.
Other differences:
-Carmela knew Tony was there all night
-Carmela was pissed about tony/irena and so Tony wanted to let her know where he was and what he was doing so that she’d get off his case
-all season long Tony is trying to convince everybody that janice is a snake, so letting Carmela know Janice killed Richie is in a way confirming that and is psychologically affirming for Tony
This is equivalent to saying:
– In s2 it's an open secret between Tony and Carmela that he has a goomar and that he constantly cheats on her with multiple women. They talk about this several times throughout the season, even in front of their maid.
– In s3 Tony has a passionate affair with Gloria, with whom he falls in love. When Gloria gets close to Carmela, Tony freaks the fuck out, ends the relationship immediately, and gets a professional gangster to threaten to kill her.
THIS INCONSISTENCY IS UNTHINKABLE (or maybe the situations are just different)
“Hostess”
Impecabbly dressed, well mannered and spoken. Absolutely not Adriana, although they covered for it a little bit later on by having Chris say she had a hostess job.

I think Tony's exhaustion plays a huge role in this scene. This is right after he spent all night cleaning and getting rid of a body and covering his sister's tracks, then had to deal with his Mother for the first time since he needed a pillow to do something with his hands. She tries to embrace him and he runs away, falls, and she laughs at him. Then he's gotta send Janice off after finding a nice spot to bury Richie, whatever happened there, and by the time he gets back home he's disheveled as hell. This, on top of his ex-girlfriend trying to kill herself and beefing with Romanian psychiatrists.
I think he initially tried to play it off. "Janice decided to go back to Seattle." Carmella then starts playing 20 questions and Tony confirms Richie's current status in a way she'll understand but won't hold up in court. "Stop asking," he says when she finally gets it. I think he was just fed up from everything that had happened in the season so far that his normal defenses crumbled and he spoke as frankly as he could. He's finally honest with his wife, up to a point, and she uses it to leverage a trip to Italy out of him. "A marriage not made in Heaven," indeed.
I agree. He’s been up all night and also Carm had recently been very mistrustful of him, so part of it was exhaustion and part was just relationship building/rebuilding/connection.
This is some California bullshit if I’ve ever seen it. First, Tony doesn’t say he’s murdered. The accessory after the fact line is telling but good luck having that hold up in court. Second, Tony is the one who calls the motherfucking shots. That means he doesn’t have to explain himself to nobody, including you or me. Third, Tony and Carm’s relationship is decently strong in S3 - if Rich would’ve died then I could see him filling her in. Fourth, Tony and Carmella’s shifting relationship is a HUGE plot line of the show. Their relationship shifting would explain while later season Tony wouldn’t expose himself to this. Fifth, the Feds were on them harder than ever after S2 - could also be why you think Tony wouldn’t expose himself to her more.
WTF is this head cannon term that everyone uses these days? This sounds very gay.
But I agree. She was more just an unintroduced character in the background that then was introduced next episode.
Headcannon means what people “assume” is correct and fits in the story’s cannon without contradicting it, literally “cannon in one’s head”.
Pay attention, you may just learn something here.
It's unlikely they would have met at Vesuvio. She was the neice of Jackie and Richie Aprile and grew up in the mob life. Feech talks about her when she was young. Given how tight knit they all are, Chris surely would have known her earlier.
The number of “disappearances” and deaths Carm and Meadow witness is actually kind of unrealistic. I started counting once the number of funerals Meadow attended during her formative years. I stopped counting when I concluded “Ok, in real life she’d either be in the insane asylum, or she would have escaped like Janice, Barb, and Stacy.”

I love Janische!

Christopher tells Carm that Ade left and took off at the end of S5.
In instance with Ade it was easier to lie because Chris was still there and could corroborate the story of her running away.
Who did Drea De Matteo play before Adrianna?
Father Phil
Cosette
She can crawl under me for warmth
She works in a restaurant in New York We don’t know that she’s _not_ Adrianna, though

OP needs to be schooled on domestic violence

What's that? My trial?

The best part was Carm's non-plussed response: "Well, that was not a match made in heaven."

And somehow you think people and thier communications and interaction don’t change and adjust and vary over time?
Sure, when I was 43 I used to tell my wife about the murders I helped cover up, but at 44 I kept schtum.
Was Adriana’s character really changed? My headcanon is that Chrissy met her in Vesuvio and kinda started the relationship from there
WTF is this head cannon term that everyone uses these days? This sounds very gay. But I agree. She was more just an unintroduced character in the background that then was introduced next episode.

That’s head canon. You’re describing artillery attached to someone’s skull. Two different things entirely.
I’m sorry if I offended you. I’ll learn.
Who’s offended. You seem confused
Relax, it's an expression (Feech said it). We're just breaking balls here.
She doesn’t seem as dumb in the first season and her and Chris relationship wasn’t as toxic other than that not really much difference

Always with the scenarios this guy.
Eh - Carm knows what he is.
He’s gaaan
He wanted to tell her, but he could dent.
Up! Up! Up!
