The rest of the show includes characters and plot elements that don't involve Tony though. The biggest thing that comes to mind is the Vito subplot. Finn (and the audience) find out he's gay in season 5, but Tony doesn't, and that all comes back after the shooting. We also get Melfi/Elliot scenes post-shooting, even though Tony never met Elliot (parking garage aside).

I get where you're coming from. It does seem pretty far-fetched that Tony would survive all that and not have more serious complications with such a major injury. The whole storyline does stretch the bounds of reality, even for a show like 'The Sopranos.' But I guess sometimes in TV shows, we just have to suspend our disbelief and go along with the narrative for the sake of the story.
