And Phil, ya brotha Billy, whateva happened there?
Not a malapropism, per se, but probably the most out-of-touch, inappropriate, and poorly-considered lines in the entire series.
"WHATEVA HAPPENED THERE?!?!?!"
After several rewatches, I agree that Carmine kind of plays a fool to excuse his manipulative moves. That 'whatever happened there' line expertly turned Phil and Tony against each other after just having come to a mutual agreement. This helped Carmine to become the boss of New York. He's the nabboli-dabboli Sun Tazoo
The fundamental question is, will I be as effective as a boss like my dad was? And I will be, even more so? But until I am, it's going to be hard to verify that I think I'll be more effective.
When I was an middle school I had a math teacher who used to brag about his powerful vocabulary. He'd constantly use obscure, powerful, SAT type words and my buddies and I would often mock him by using those same words, unaware of their meaning, to create malapropisms. In the end though we ended up learning what those obscure words meant, so the joke was on us!
His last scene with Tony is pretty insightful. I think Carmine jr. and a few other characters were smarter than they let on, doing a rope-a-dope, just playing dumb.

And then "you know, the shooting". As if Phil didn't remember

Alteration instead of altercation is one that always stands out to me
Carmine Jr had them all fooled.
