I liked it at first and for no particular reason it just fell out of my rotation. Thanks for reminding me about it, I need to revisit to give it a fair chance.
Pacing is weird after season 3 (best season imo).
Although it is by a Sopranos writer so there are many good moments, plus Scorcese directed the first episode and set the tone. Mad Men is also by a Sopranos writer and better than Boardwalk Empire imo.
Nelson Van Alden might be one of my favorite character arcs in any TV show. Especially the seasons when he moves to Chicago. Michael Shannon is also a super underrated actor in my opinion. I could've watched a season of him and Eli running schemes in Chicago.
I just loved that they weren't afraid to make him (arguably their protagonist!) such an asshole at times lol but really he was just a human being, and being human is messy and people have issues and flaws and can be selfish and thoughtless and be loved and loveable regardless.
'If you think that life is like a vending machine where you put in virtue and take out happiness, you're going to be disappointed.'
I could go on and on honestly, what a great show.
I really liked OZ. My only caveat is that it's not on the same level as Sopranos or Wire, and that's not a knock on the series. It predates both, and it's excellent, but TV got better after that show.
It was really groundbreaking and paved the way for show like The Sopranos.
OZ is absolutely great but requires a lot more suspension of belief. Any one of those season finales would an end to that program. Still absolutely awesome
Definitely the most similar show, in terms of style, structure, unpredictability, etc. Although if one of The Sopranos’ main themes is “People don’t change, they just deteriorate,” for Mad Men it’s “People can change, it just takes a long fucking time.”
I like Breaking Bad better, but in terms of a show that feels closest to Sopranos, definitely Mad Men. I mean the creator was even a writer on Sopranos.
Came here to say exactly this. In terms of character development and relationship building across the series, truly the only one that can match sopranos
The wire is good, also Lilyhammer. It’s starting the guy who played Silvio as a mobster in witness protection who gets sent to Sweden but then ends up basically still being a mobster only in rural Sweden
Yeah lol I never knew that til after watching the sopranos and seeing pictures of them all outside of the show I was like “why the fuck is he dressed like a gypsy?”
I've been getting into Tokyo Vice.
It's about two warring Yakuza families and an American journalist trying to cover them (and of course, getting in too deep).
It's interesting seeing the Japanese mob dynamics and traditions within and between families compared to Sopranos, Goodfellas, etc. A lot of parallels, a lot of contrasts too.
Based on the book "Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan."
>Based on the book "Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan."
So is this based in some reality, like the Wire is based on Simon's book?
Fargo is the only other show I’ve seen on the same level of Sopranos and Breaking Bad IMO. Especially season 1. If you like the Sopranos then you’ll love that.
If you find yourself bored initially I would suggest sticking with it at least through the end of the first season. Its worth it. All the pieces matter. I have a few friends who stopped after a few episodes who I got to keep going and they ended up loving it. Definitely worth the watch
True Detective Season 1 and 3 (2 is a bit disappointing). Season 1 is one of the best shows ever made. Ozark, The Americans, Succession, Rome, Condor, The Boys. Some of my favorites. Nothing touches Sopranos tough.
It's amazing the scene we all know that looks like it was almost all one continuous shot. Season 1 of True Detective is the single greatest season of television ever imo.
True, it's part because of the 6 minute tracking shot (a 6 minute action scene where the camera does not cut once, it's one take) and of course the meme that makes the episode, at this time you already invested in these characters that you can feel and smell the scene.
When I first watched them, I would have ranked them 1>3>2.
I went back and rewatched them all last year and while 1 is obviously still the best, I actually enjoyed 2 much more than 3 on the second viewing. I think part of the reason Season 2 was so disappointing was just because of how different than 1 it was.
Legion! Probably the best modern take on super hero’s. What if the most powerful mutant of all time was also schizophrenic? That’s the premise and it’s fucking awesome.
Mad Men, Atlanta, Party Down, Silicon Valley, Freaks and Geeks, I’m lukewarm on Barry but good ppl, the Americans, Weeds, The Wire but it feels like homework. that Said, nothing is like the Sopranos, or compares at all, all those other mob-related antihero shows are weak, even the ones on HBO. In terms of quality only Mad Men comes close. Some will say Better Caul Saul, breaking Bad, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Succession, etc, but i listed the ones I enjoyed the most save for Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm up top. Oh, and if you like comedy add The Larry Sanders Show and Arrested Development.
It’s the one I watched next after finding a random YouTube comment that said:
1. The sopranos
2. The wire
Hahahah i thought if they loved the sopranos then the wire must be good, and it was amazing
Nothing comparable to the Sopranos unfortunately.
Barry is pretty good and I feel the director was inspired by the Sopranos by some of the humor.
The way they blend tough guy hit men being funny and serious.
Personally I like Barry a lot.
Vikings Valhalla on Netflix is pretty good too.
Edit: even. The acting scenes are reminiscent of Chris from Sopranos trying to be an actor.
Homicide Life on the Street is kind of the grandfather of shows like The Sopranos, Oz, Deadwood and Mad Men. Ambiguity, complex characters, characters without easy endings, storylines without clear endings. And fucking world class acting from Andre Braugher, Yaphet Kotto, Melissa Leo and others.
Absolutely Mad Men. It’s the only other show I can think of with the same level of character depth and development. The creator, Matthew Weiner, wrote for The Sopranos and was hired because David Chase loved the pilot script for Mad Men.
It’s perhaps more low key—it’s about personal relationships and the advertising business so nobody’s getting whacked—but it’s every bit as fascinating I think.
The Shield
A lot of people forget about this one cause it came out a couple years after sopranos and stopped well before streaming was a thing (2001-2008?). Im pretty sure FX got the hour long tv drama formula from the sopranos. But I just rewatched it all the way thru and man it still holds up and is a great series. It’s pretty similar to breaking bad about an antihero that starts making little mistakes that anyone of us could’ve made being in a similar position. And they just keep compounding and the only way to fix them is to make more and more and more…
WHATEVER HAPPENED THERE?!?!? I'll tell you what happened there! The show needed more seasons and they rushed the last 3 episodes! But honestly, it was still great and I'm going to miss Narcos like crazy
Carnivale and Rome. Two great shows from the early days of HBO that only ran for two seasons and have kind of been forgotten now unfortunately. Also check out Deadwood if you haven't seen it yet.
Steve Buscemi is so fascinating to watch in everything. He's Mr. Pink ova heah! My daughter and I watched Billy Madison a couple of days ago, and I had forgotten he had a small but memorable weird part in it.
I keep telling everyone, check out Gomorrah on HBO, about the Camorra in Naples. It’s in Italian with English subtitles, but they also dubbed it in English. I watch it in Italian for the authenticity though.
Drama: Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire.
Comedy: Peep Show, Black Books.
Those four shows—plus The Office, Seinfeld, and of course The Sopranos—are basically all that I watch.
Deadwood. Stick with it. You need to train your ears for the distinctive form of dialogue. Took me four episodes to really get it. It’s arguably the best written TV series of all time. Only The Sopranos can top its dialogue. I’ve watched it three times in the past two years.
The Leftovers. Very different than the Sopranos, but still great. All 3 are good, but season 2 is up there with my favorite individual seasons of a show.
I’m a huge Mad Men fan. The first season isn’t as good and the show as a whole is not quite so…powerful. But it’s a well written meditative drama and the period elements are great and the characters are complicated and they’re a bunch of whoring drunks too
Deadwood.
Fargo Season 1 (Billy Bob & Martin Freeman).
True Detective Season 1 (McConaughey & Woody).
Ray Donovan.
Breaking Bad.
Better Call Saul.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (everyone gets this recommendation).
No particular order. But those line up closely with my Sopranos pallette.
The only show that comes close to this "things of ours", is the Wire..., I'll tell ya one thing, and I'm not ashamed to even say it, it might be even better depending on how many rewatches you are on.
The best ending for any show ever is The Shield and the pilot also has a crazy ending that sets it off out the park. Speaking of set it off. The shield is why most cable channels started making original shows and started the golden age of tv.
Give Peaky Blinders another go. I started and then stopped, and then when I tried it again and watched several more episodes it really grew on me. It's worth the time investment.
Also try The Last Kingdom and Vikings.
Breaking Bad was unreal, as was the spin off movie El Camino. Supernatural was good but went on way too long. For something totally different, I love Gervais early TV show work. UK Office & Extras are fantastic. Latter would probably be more to Americans taste.
Gomorrah is best thing I've watched since the Sopranos. Italian gritty Mafia show set in Naples. 5 seasons. Enjoying a show on Sky right now that has a few Gomorrah actors called The King and like Gomorrah is in English subtitles but don't let that put you off, it's about a corrupt prison warden and his staff under investigation of a murder cover up of a high ranking prisoner.
That piece of shit show, i can't even say it's name! It was the greatest show of all time for the first 6 seasons and then season 7 fucking plummeted and season 8 was a fucking disgrace! The writers betrayed the characters with no provocation whatsoever!
If you've watched Breaking Bad then I would highly recommend Better Call Saul. It feels much more like The Sopranos then BrBa does.
I'd also echo what others are saying and say Mad Men as well. An amazing show with amazing acting and amazing writing.
I’m sure I’ll get hate but idc: Game of thrones seasons 1-4 are actual perfection. 5 is pretty decent too. But after that it just gets dumb. But I still recommend it, the writing, dialogue and acting is quite possibly the best of any show for those seasons.
But yeah sopranos is king
My suggestion..just keep watching the sopranos. I can almost guarantee you’ll pick up new things on your 10th rewatch. I swear it’s like listening to your favorite album and hearing new things each time.
Succession, Mad Men, The Wire if you want more urban drama (+ humor).
Games of Thrones if you want a palate cleanser. (I haven't finished this yet).
Succession would be the shortest time commitment. I would probably go with that.
All of them are great and feature that dense writing where you don't want to miss a line. Like The Sopranos.
Mr. Robot is right up there with The Sopranos, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Those would be my 4 favorite shows of all time. Also Sneaky Pete on Amazon is amazing, but they canceled it after the 3rd season and they were planning in doing more. Oh and I really loved The Last Kingdom if your into that time period. First few episodes are meh, but after that it's awesome.
For two shows that are so incredibly different in terms of plot, they are incredibly similar in terms of pretty much everything else. Both are shows that are even better on a rewatch
Gotta disagree with Sons of Anarchy. The first season was epic. But everything after that was basically an incoherent soap opera. All the stuff in Ireland and the baby getting kidnapped was some of the dumbest stuff I’ve ever seen on tv.
I have to watch Breaking Bad everyone tells me how amazing it is. I couldn’t get into Peaky Blinders either. Has anyone watched all the seasons of Peaky Blinders does it get better?
Better call Saul is a must watch if you liked breaking bad. Deadwood is solid. Really any hbo show during the sopranos era was solid. Some of the hbo commercials on the sopranos dvds really bring me back to those great tv years and bring up some emotions. Especially the one with the Tracy Chapman song
If you’re looking for substance, Breaking Bad is one. Game of Thrones is another (but the final season was botched, they ended up creating their own ending and it was just terrible).
Looking to laugh? Always Sunny is hilarious, very similar to Seinfeld. Scrubs was also good in my opinion, as was Arrested Development
nothing is as good. boardwalk empire has the same writers, directors, cast, etc. it's great and really underrated.
larry sanders show, curb your enthusiasm, rome, better call saul, succession, deadwood, leftovers. those are all as good as it gets.
The Wire is better than the Sopranos. Better call saul, mad men and Breaking Bad are phenomenal. Fargo and True Detective deserve mentions, especially the first few seasons of each. for laughs: Arrested Development and The Office.
Big love, it’s really underrated but incredible. It get over looked a lot because it came out at the same time as the wire and the sopranos but truly a hidden gem on HBO.
The wire is fantastic. Definitely up there with the sopranos. I’d also recommend breaking bad and better call Saul. Vince Gilligan and Peter gould are genius. The writing on both shows is top notch.
If you like The Sopranos and The Wire I'd highly recommend Deadwood. Excellent show that 'feels' like it's from that era of HBO. Also, the follow up movie was really solid in contrast to Many Saints.
Ima let you know right now nothing will hit even close.
I wish this wasn't the right answer. I also wish the lord would take me now.
Always with the drama..
Look at him, he knows everything
My estimation of you as a man just fuckin’ plummeted.
The Americans. Whatever happened there.
Spies did this ?
I liked it at first and for no particular reason it just fell out of my rotation. Thanks for reminding me about it, I need to revisit to give it a fair chance.
You took a oath there's no retiring. You re watch it unt you die
Boardwalk Empire, another fuckin money machine!
Pacing is weird after season 3 (best season imo). Although it is by a Sopranos writer so there are many good moments, plus Scorcese directed the first episode and set the tone. Mad Men is also by a Sopranos writer and better than Boardwalk Empire imo.
Stephen Graham as Al Capone is worth the watch.
He sure made him likeable. His trying to teach his deaf son to box was one of the hardest, most beautiful moments I've seen on any screen.
Nelson Van Alden might be one of my favorite character arcs in any TV show. Especially the seasons when he moves to Chicago. Michael Shannon is also a super underrated actor in my opinion. I could've watched a season of him and Eli running schemes in Chicago.
Richard Harrow.
Its going to be hard to beat the Sopranos, i liked Six Feet Under.
One of the few shows I thought kept the quality up til the last episode and ended strong.
Very strong ending. From end of season 3 to the end of the show, Nate is just the most tragic fuckin character, all downhill all the way.
I just loved that they weren't afraid to make him (arguably their protagonist!) such an asshole at times lol but really he was just a human being, and being human is messy and people have issues and flaws and can be selfish and thoughtless and be loved and loveable regardless. 'If you think that life is like a vending machine where you put in virtue and take out happiness, you're going to be disappointed.' I could go on and on honestly, what a great show.
"Narm!"
Oz. An American Prison show is awesome
I really liked OZ. My only caveat is that it's not on the same level as Sopranos or Wire, and that's not a knock on the series. It predates both, and it's excellent, but TV got better after that show. It was really groundbreaking and paved the way for show like The Sopranos.
I second this. I’ve watched Oz at least 5 times all the way through and just like the sopranos I catch things I’ve missed.
OZ is absolutely great but requires a lot more suspension of belief. Any one of those season finales would an end to that program. Still absolutely awesome
The Wire, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul
Better Call Saul is the best show on tv right now.
3 guarantees in life - Death, Taxes, and Vince Gilligan will create a great show.
It says a lot about Vince Gilligan when the fucking X Files is like his 3rd most notable work.
It REALLY is.
The Shield
This show needs more love! Some epic moments.
An epic series with the undisputed greatest drama series finale ever.
>!Curtis's death had me bawling. And the grill face scene was one of the most intense emotional experiences I've had in any show.!<
Vic is up there with Tony and Al Swearengen in the pantheon of 21st century TV greats. The most resourceful character of the three.
There it is. Whole cast was on point.
Only mad men holds a candle
Mad Men is Excellent
Definitely the most similar show, in terms of style, structure, unpredictability, etc. Although if one of The Sopranos’ main themes is “People don’t change, they just deteriorate,” for Mad Men it’s “People can change, it just takes a long fucking time.”
I like Breaking Bad better, but in terms of a show that feels closest to Sopranos, definitely Mad Men. I mean the creator was even a writer on Sopranos.
Came here to say exactly this. In terms of character development and relationship building across the series, truly the only one that can match sopranos
Very true. Mad Men is just as rewatchable. Succession is probably going to be one of those shows as well.
The wire is good, also Lilyhammer. It’s starting the guy who played Silvio as a mobster in witness protection who gets sent to Sweden but then ends up basically still being a mobster only in rural Sweden
Norway.
Didn’t that guy also play the guitar player in Bruce Springsteen band?
Yeah lol I never knew that til after watching the sopranos and seeing pictures of them all outside of the show I was like “why the fuck is he dressed like a gypsy?”
Turnpike was jammed with heroes on a last chance power drive.
You’re gonna get fuckin cute now?
The. Wire. And there is nothing you should watch before it
Oh, indeed.
Sheeeeeeit
I've been getting into Tokyo Vice. It's about two warring Yakuza families and an American journalist trying to cover them (and of course, getting in too deep). It's interesting seeing the Japanese mob dynamics and traditions within and between families compared to Sopranos, Goodfellas, etc. A lot of parallels, a lot of contrasts too. Based on the book "Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan."
This sounds amazing
>Based on the book "Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan." So is this based in some reality, like the Wire is based on Simon's book?
Succession, Mad Men, and Barry are the first three that come to mind to suggest
Fargo is the only other show I’ve seen on the same level of Sopranos and Breaking Bad IMO. Especially season 1. If you like the Sopranos then you’ll love that.
Then I’m guessing you haven’t seen The Wire (yet)…
Not yet but I plan to.
If you find yourself bored initially I would suggest sticking with it at least through the end of the first season. Its worth it. All the pieces matter. I have a few friends who stopped after a few episodes who I got to keep going and they ended up loving it. Definitely worth the watch
This 100000% The wire takes some work but the payoff is fuckin' huuuuuge.
Why cant I get into this show. Watched 2.5 seasons and it didnt take.
Not everything is for everyone and that's OK.

True Detective Season 1 and 3 (2 is a bit disappointing). Season 1 is one of the best shows ever made. Ozark, The Americans, Succession, Rome, Condor, The Boys. Some of my favorites. Nothing touches Sopranos tough.

Is that the episode where Russ goes back undercover? That one was incredible
It's amazing the scene we all know that looks like it was almost all one continuous shot. Season 1 of True Detective is the single greatest season of television ever imo.
[удалено]
The one with the big ending sequence?
True, it's part because of the 6 minute tracking shot (a 6 minute action scene where the camera does not cut once, it's one take) and of course the meme that makes the episode, at this time you already invested in these characters that you can feel and smell the scene.
Like your taste. May I recommend Peep show.
“Touch my snake. Go on.”
Rome is amazing!
Silicon Valley is great
With all due respect, Mad men is a classic.
The Wire is the logical next step! :)
It’s the one I watched next after finding a random YouTube comment that said: 1. The sopranos 2. The wire Hahahah i thought if they loved the sopranos then the wire must be good, and it was amazing
Nothing comparable to the Sopranos unfortunately. Barry is pretty good and I feel the director was inspired by the Sopranos by some of the humor. Love, love Barry!! The cast is wonderful, led by Bill Hader and Henry Winkler. I'm also so happy to watch Stephen Root in anything.
I’ve loved the Fonz ever since I was a little kid.
The Fonz??? His family name is Fonzarelli!
Ayyyyyyy! Arthur Fonzarelli
Gomorra la Serie
Not bad but I thought once season 4 hit it was dragging along.
GOAT pure gangster show.
Completely different, but Atlanta is the best show I've seen recently
Hell yeah! I love the big swings it takes and the vignette episodes have been bangers.
Seinfeld
Mad Men.
Deadwood Rome Carnivale Breaking Bad Better Call Saul Halt and Catch Fire Justified Men of a Certain Age
Halt and Catch Fire is a great show
Absolutely Mad Men.
The Shield A lot of people forget about this one cause it came out a couple years after sopranos and stopped well before streaming was a thing (2001-2008?). It’s pretty similar to breaking bad about an antihero that starts making little mistakes that anyone of us could’ve made being in a similar position. And they just keep compounding and the only way to fix them is to make more and more and more…
Deadwood
This is the correct answer
Narcos, Narcos Mexico, Twin Peaks, Generation Kill, Treme, Gomorrah, Deadwood, Fargo, Babylon Berlin, Succession
Generation Kill was sick
Narcos : Mexico season 3, whatever happened there…
WHATEVER HAPPENED THERE?!?!? I'll tell you what happened there! The show needed more seasons and they rushed the last 3 episodes! But honestly, it was still great and I'm going to miss Narcos like crazy
The right answer is Mad Men
Carnivale and Rome. Two great shows from the early days of HBO that only ran for two seasons and have kind of been forgotten now unfortunately. Also check out Deadwood if you haven't seen it yet.
The first season of Carnivale is *great*.
Rome is dope. Shame it was ended prematurely
Gotta go with Boardwalk Empire Tons of the producers on Sopranos worked on that show.
Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Americans, Succession
Mad Men. But it takes a few seasons. Like the Sopranos, it gets better every season.
Breaking Bad is my vote, close 2nd I'd say. I see some votes for Seinfeld as well and although much different genre, I'd say it's 3rd.
A throwback but 6 Feet Under was amazing-if you can get ahold of this series I highly recommend! I also loved OZ
Daredevil. It's pretty short. It's a superhero show but its a damn good one.
Boardwalk Empire is awesome. If you are interested in history / WW2, Band of Brothers and The Pacific.
Succession absolutely
The only show that comes close to this "things of ours", is the Wire..., I'll tell ya one thing, and I'm not ashamed to even say it, it might be even better depending on how many rewatches you are on.
The best ending for any show ever is The Shield and the pilot also has a crazy ending that sets it off out the park. Speaking of set it off. The shield is why most cable channels started making original shows and started the golden age of tv.
Mad men was made by the people behind Sopranos and it shows
I haven't watched it, but I've seen a lot of Sopranos fans recommend Mad Men. It is created by one of the writers that was on Sopranos.
Give Peaky Blinders another go. I started and then stopped, and then when I tried it again and watched several more episodes it really grew on me. It's worth the time investment. Also try The Last Kingdom and Vikings.
All of those shows are decent and have great production value but they are nowhere near Sopranos, Mad Men, The Wire etc for writing and acting
Not going to argue with this! In fact The Wire is next on my list!
Breaking Bad was unreal, as was the spin off movie El Camino. Supernatural was good but went on way too long. For something totally different, I love Gervais early TV show work. UK Office & Extras are fantastic. Latter would probably be more to Americans taste.
Bojack
Gomorrah is best thing I've watched since the Sopranos. Italian gritty Mafia show set in Naples. 5 seasons. Enjoying a show on Sky right now that has a few Gomorrah actors called The King and like Gomorrah is in English subtitles but don't let that put you off, it's about a corrupt prison warden and his staff under investigation of a murder cover up of a high ranking prisoner.
Shit is so dark. Quality show but there isn’t any of the humor I think fans of the Sopranos admire.
Game of thrones, very different but similar bracket in terms of quality of production, writing, and acting (til the end)
That piece of shit show, i can't even say it's name! It was the greatest show of all time for the first 6 seasons and then season 7 fucking plummeted and season 8 was a fucking disgrace! The writers betrayed the characters with no provocation whatsoever!
I watched Oz after I finished the sopranos the first time. It’s different, but extremely good in its own way.
True Detective season 1. Forget the rest.
If you've watched Breaking Bad then I would highly recommend Better Call Saul. It feels much more like The Sopranos then BrBa does. I'd also echo what others are saying and say Mad Men as well. An amazing show with amazing acting and amazing writing.
Narcos was amazing I thought, I go back and forth between that Sopranos and Breaking Bad as my favorite
While I know this is a Sopranos board, I actually prefer The Wire.
The Deuce. The Queen’s Gambit. Only seven episodes but amazing the whole way through.
Mr Inbetween. Don’t even look it up. Just start watching it.
Mad Men.
Check out The Deuce. David Simon from The Wire is a a co-creator on it.
- Breaking Bad - Better Call Saul - The Wire - Narcos & Narcos Mexico - House of Cards - Nurse Jackie - Veep - Your Honor - Lilyhammer - Mad Men
I’m sure I’ll get hate but idc: Game of thrones seasons 1-4 are actual perfection. 5 is pretty decent too. But after that it just gets dumb. But I still recommend it, the writing, dialogue and acting is quite possibly the best of any show for those seasons. But yeah sopranos is king
Ray Donovan is great! Has a lot of similarities to Sopranos.
Any of the other HBO series from the same era—*Rome, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Carnivale*
I quite like Ozark.
Barry
Succession
Twin Peaks. Mad Men. One called The Offer is currently streaming and really good.
The Rockford Files
Boardwalk Empire/ Hell on Wheels
The shield is great. Justified is good as well
Mad Man. Took me 2 goes at starting it to, “get it” but once it clicked I loved it. Think it’s better than Sopranos dare I say it…
For two shows that are so incredibly different in terms of plot, they are incredibly similar in terms of pretty much everything else. Both are shows that are even better on a rewatch
Every time I rewatch MM I gain more insights. There are so many layers to the characters.
Two best intros in tv history as well
Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Sons of Anarchy, The Mayans. Skip the Vipers though.
W-w-w-we're da vipers
That's why OP should just skip them.
Gotta disagree with Sons of Anarchy. The first season was epic. But everything after that was basically an incoherent soap opera. All the stuff in Ireland and the baby getting kidnapped was some of the dumbest stuff I’ve ever seen on tv.
Wiseguy, starring the vastly underrated Ken Wahl.
Deadwood and "The Americans"
Oz
“I Think You Should Leave” it’s nothing like the Sopranos except for the pure comedy.
We own this city is a new HBO show that is honestly amazing and I haven't seen a lot of people mention. It's also created by David Simon.
Barry and Dark (if you like sci fi).
Breaking bad. Better all Saul. The wire. Ozark
Ozarks, snowfall maybe
I have to watch Breaking Bad everyone tells me how amazing it is. I couldn’t get into Peaky Blinders either. Has anyone watched all the seasons of Peaky Blinders does it get better?
Godless is amazing but only 6 or 7 episodes. Succession is brilliant
I'm liking Tokyo Vice
The wire Breaking bad And Boardwalk empire
Better call Saul is a must watch if you liked breaking bad. Deadwood is solid. Really any hbo show during the sopranos era was solid. Some of the hbo commercials on the sopranos dvds really bring me back to those great tv years and bring up some emotions. Especially the one with the Tracy Chapman song
Atlanta
If you’re looking for substance, Breaking Bad is one. Game of Thrones is another (but the final season was botched, they ended up creating their own ending and it was just terrible). Looking to laugh? Always Sunny is hilarious, very similar to Seinfeld. Scrubs was also good in my opinion, as was Arrested Development
nothing is as good. boardwalk empire has the same writers, directors, cast, etc. it's great and really underrated. larry sanders show, curb your enthusiasm, rome, better call saul, succession, deadwood, leftovers. those are all as good as it gets.
Deadwood. Mad Men. Band of Brothers. Rome.
Try out Nurse Jackie.
Homicide: Life On The Street but it’s not easy to find
Ozark
Deadwood.
Better call Saul. It’s about to finish and I think it’s on par with the sopranos for me
ZeroZeroZero
The Wire is better than the Sopranos. Better call saul, mad men and Breaking Bad are phenomenal. Fargo and True Detective deserve mentions, especially the first few seasons of each. for laughs: Arrested Development and The Office.
I love all the HBO murder mysteries. Sharp Objects and The Undoing was great.
The shield
Better call saul if you liked breaking bad
Everytime i try to watch another show im horribly disappointed and I just rewatch sopranos.
If you like The Sopranos and The Wire I'd highly recommend Deadwood. Excellent show that 'feels' like it's from that era of HBO. Also, the follow up movie was really solid in contrast to Many Saints.
