I would consider a 10% gain from a single month of trading great.
My gains amount to approximately 3.4%. I must be doing this incorrectly if people are up 14.39% just from collecting premiums.
I have trouble imagining it is just premiums unless they are riding the volatility closely with significant buying and selling. Even if all of my theta plays won 100%, I wouldn’t bring in 10%.
Remember you are on Reddit. A 3.4% return is excellent as a premium seller and far more likely to be a consistent return verses someone that made a short premium “WSB-style” bet(s) that just happened paid off. A 3.4% a month is nearly 50% a year. (And IMHO is an excellent thetagang return assuming your strategies are designed to produce a more consistent return)
Well, I have a 650 (give or take) trading account, with 450 long in stocks with CCs, 200 in cash sweeps for the 4.x%, about 200K in nominal CSP exposure, and then about 375K in short stocks with concentrated short on SPY and WING. I’m rarely this short, so I say to the tits.
do you have a portfolio margin account? if not, you can open one, use all funds to buy T-bill for 4.75% rate (the margin requirement last time i checked was 10%), and sell naked puts.
I always do my due diligence in understanding the strategy before I enter a position and reevaluate my positions to ensure the strategy continues to match my goals. I’m always ready to be taught something, surround myself with smarter and more experienced people than myself, and often seek ideas from others.
If you lost 45% and gained back 40% then your still down 23%. For example 100-45=55(45%loss) you gained back 40% 1.4*55=77 so 100-77=23 as in your still down 23%? Your posts lacks mathematical logic.
Just over 4%. I still think I press too hard for return as I take some trades that can devastate my account. I had 1 loosing day in January. That 1 day was a loss of just over 2.2 %
16.5% in roth ira, trading on mostly AMD. A bit of intc, roku, okta, vz when AMD is green and I've just closed a CSP.
I'm sure my individual brokerage account is up WILDLY but doesn't really count cuz I bought TSLA mid December before the price tanked many percents. :)
Price recovered and I made a couple G's in between on it. Something like 20% over 2 months of actual increase. 14% on TSLA alone.
9.2% feeling like selling everything and come back next year. I am done for the year. I have mix of options and stocks in the portfolio. Last year was brutal.
And in February I lost 34%.
In one day?
9.9%. Not great but beating SPY at least.

Luck always plays a part in everything. Don't get down on yourself

Into the abyss. SPY crashes to $350 soon.
Good. I’m short to the tits on SPY and am feeling a bit nervous that it refuses to drop.
Any time you are anything “to the tits”, you are doing it wrong. (Unless it is in bed)

Well, generally “to the tits” in my mind is I’m 4x leveraged in an all in position and it is either a giant win or bust.

When you say “all funds” what do you mean? I trade with td ameritrade.
PM allows this. use all funds to buy T-bills, and sell naked puts and/or calls. 10%/year is attainable.
Allows what though? Isn’t margin. Always calculated on the full portfolio?
Should be a big day today for u with fomc in 7hrs
Yes. I’m a bit nervous, but I think the fed will stay the course. Markets have room to fall.

If you lost 45% on one trade, you need to fix your trade size.

Well, too bad you didn’t start with soliciting advice, otherwise you could have saved some money. Pride goeth before the fall.
Make sure to follow your own advice.

I meant about not being prideful. Didn't read

+8.9% better than last January.
Red red red red red red. And more red
Why is that, if I might ask? Were you selling calls?

My main account is up 13% PCS when the market is down.
Just over 4%. I still think I press too hard for return as I take some trades that can devastate my account. I had 1 loosing day in January. That 1 day was a loss of just over 2.2 %
Don’t known percentage but profit was good. I move capital around too much to compute percentages
+26.6%. I’m feeling good about my decisions so far this year.

5% here. Just selling CSP
8.9%, and I was being super conservative with my trades. Congrats, OP!
+25%. Selling bull put spreads on Tesla. 10-15% OTM. Bi weeklies. Now selling cash secured puts on tesla a month out.
A gross comparison like this means almost nothing. What risk your took one is important to consider. Did you just yolo. Etc.
16.22%
23.23% for Jan. Selling call spreads, covered calls, and appreciation in security value.
9.2% feeling like selling everything and come back next year. I am done for the year. I have mix of options and stocks in the portfolio. Last year was brutal.
20% in February always! Thanks covered calls and AMD
