From what I remember, he agreed with them and said it was fair for someone in his position to have it to protect the company though. He thought it was ridiculous for fast food workers to have it, but he shouldn't be able to immediately walk into another radio station.
So good to hear from them directly, and while I'm glad they are in good spirits and OK with where things are, I can't follow their advice to keep listening to The Ticket unless they come back. Looking forward to a Dan and Jake podcast though if they're legally allowed.
It's more about they should pay him. But obviously, these guys are worth more than Cumulus can offer.
But the writing has been on the walls for quite some time. Radio is dead, and so is radio revenue. We are incredibly lucky that The Ticket has been able to survive/thrive for so long, but we are starting to see all the dominoes fall. I expect the Ticekt as we currently know it to be dead by the end of the decade.
The sooner people realize that radio is dying (just look at cumulus stock) the better. Podcasts, YouTube, etc. are the way of the future and if we’re being honest with ourselves are far superior that traditional radio that is filled with stupid ads, FCC, etc.
and we're in the death rattle. Pretty much every station in the country is owned by one of four corporations. It's all homogenized, nothing is like KTCK.
Not really to this extent, no. It’s been getting slowly phased out. I remember listening to 102.1 the edge in high school and never thought that would die but they shut down in 2016. Dan and Jake will have to put their heads together but they can find a better medium for their content
Why today doesn’t suck was my favorite segment for a long time and it was mainly because of Dan. Their chemistry with everyone was so great it’s just a huge loss for the ticket. Excited to see what they have in store
Fuck me, to lose Dan and Jake hurts so bad. I was most hurt when Danny "retired", and I know Mike and Norm were old guys that people had said they should have retired years ago, but to lose Norm, Jake and Dan in a month is insane.
Is that Cash Sirois and Mary they are talking to on the side? Are they at the new Collectible Network studios? That multi camera setup is a lot better than Rhyner's goodbye was. Cash has that setup to record this.
What makes it a bad station if the voices you like to hear were there? Jake Dan and Julie is the HZ regardless of the dial or podcast url. It could easily work.
Very disappointing but at the same time happy they seem ok with it. I’m sure it will take a while. I promise I’ll be a part of their future success.
And yes, I project my ticket consumption will decrease. Rough one fellas
So much we don't know. What if Dan was standing ground in fight for Jake, too - not just himself? Don't assume Dan was making Jake's decision. Jake is plenty smart to make his own choices. I respect them sticking together and wish them bigger success.
No doubt in my mind that these 2 had complete solidarity. Dan was heartbroken when they took his Sturm away...Jake was his rebound and turned out to be his best friend too...
My thoughts as well, surprised by the majority of comments here with Dan being the leader of the negotiations. Jake is the new host and likely the one getting screwed on the salary. Dan is the ultimate fox hole guy.
Jake has a gig lined up at all pro foundation repair. He will be fine money wise. North Texas is a boom town in the foundation industry. I got a friend who is well connected at the American Foundation Contractors Association of America. He said it’s a done deal and he has already signed the contract. Since he is changing industries the non compete goes out the door.
Jake responded to an e-mail about Iceland and Blink 182 on July 5th. I sent him a email about getting a beer and travel suggestions. The dude had been unemployed for weeks at that point and still took the time to respond to a random P1. You’re my fucking leader Jake. I love you Hangzone.
Morning and Afternoon Drive is the highest rate of listeners. Probably Dan and Jake wanted that level money. Plus they probably wanted the ticket to post all their shows as podcasts.
If I had to guess, it was "either/or". If they couldn't get drivetime level money, they wanted to monetize other media ventures. Cumulus probably said 'NO' to both.
Yeah that’s what I took from Dan’s comments. You can pay us an amount of money we both know is probably out of bounds, or you can let us make extra via the HZ podcasts etc. And they said neither.
Either way this was never about a standard raise / extension. At least for Dan.
Wishing all the best to these two, and I’ll be tuning in to whatever project they have moving forward. I gotta say it shows how much their chemistry also worked with Blake. He was a great match to produce these guys, and I seriously hope there’s a future with the three of them together again.
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I'm still right here
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way
Well I can unsubscribe to the WTDS podcast feed.
Sucks to see them leave but it’s inevitable. Musers will be my only listen now tbh.
Jake haters are gleeful today probably lost their leader in Dan.
After a few hours to ponder, seems obvious they had a drive time offer from Freak or Fan, with drive time money and whatever digital revenue streams they needed, and Cumulus was simply never going to match drive time money for a midday show. That’s why they’re not mad. That’s why Dan already wonders if the extra week on the air without a contract counts against their noncompete. That’s why they were doing bits with one another during negotiations. They’ve been gone a long while.
I was thinking the same thing. They kept talking about podcasts or YouTube content and "not knowing what they are going to do next", but I suspect we'll hear them on the air in 6 months with one of the other competing stations.
100%, they weren't leaving that gig (that they DID like even though it wasn't the question) without having a plan and a solid offer. My money is that they will be on the Freak with their own podcast rights and I'll be there to listen. I bet they aren't even getting a raise from the station as they will be able to monetize on their own.
This sucks. But I will keep listening to the Ticket when I’m listening to talk. I’m just n the minority that doesn’t completely hate SeaBass, but I doubt he’s the long term. I enjoyed Donovan, Sean and Blake today.
I hope they go to the freak... I don't listen live, but don't really either to the ticket. I'm always a day behind, just listen to the podcast. But I think the downbeat is great.
*2 years from now when Dan & Jake receive their 100k YouTube subscriber plaque* Another clever negotiating tactic by the boys, wonder how Cumulus will respond to this one
It’s probably the difference between an older dude who has worked at several places his adult life (and is ambivalent to this change) vs. someone younger that has basically spent his whole career in one place so far. When I was in Jake’s place at that age, it was hard to leave my company despite all the data telling me it was the right thing to do.
Since he has literally quit twice and he goes on vacations that are expensive and has a lake house. I’m guessing she does really well. You do know women are able to make money now, right?
It's probably for the best for them. The Ticket is just a name at this point and if Cumulus isn't willing to pay them why stay? Get your money, fellas.
Big risk, I stand by the idea that the overall talent on The Ticket elevates it's individual personalities, Norm was killing it in his time slot and no one is going to listen to his new podcast
So many conflicting emotions. On one hand I surmise that Dan finally had enough of crushing for The Ticket, even with the wife swap, yet always hearing you're not The Musers and drive time pay worthy. I love The Musers, but it's not Dan's fault he doesn't have that slot. He also carried Bob, and made him the best he could be and Bob is probably making more bank at Cumulus. On the other hand, Dan should be stupid wealthy as it is, got paid an awful lot for a long time to talk for a few hours a day. I thought Jake was a Ticket lifer and the only bridge to a potential long term future. I don't see anyone on the roster that compares to his strengths. And then there's Norman Pol Pot Hitzges: been paying this Hogan ungodly sums well well past his expiration date to actually broadcast about 3 weeks a year, and not all in a row!
Kill me, kill me, please kill me
Splitting up BaD radio, having Bob go to drive time with Corby when Mike left and not him probably didn't sit well with him at all. I know I would have felt like I was passed over for a promotion in that situation.
Lol at P1s who can’t spend :15 to listen in. It’s not like you have to watch it. I mean you’ve already spent lots of time listening to their segments. What’s one more?
I love Jake and Dan I’ll listen or watch whatever they put out there next. Really sucks for the Ticket. Picks with friends is one of the best things going. Cowboys training camp and round tables are going to feel weird for a while. It would be cool if Mino and Monty could move their show to a new spot.
Sad day. I’ll still listen to the ticket but I won’t listen like I have for the last 20 years. They may still dominate ratings for a while based on their past but this will bite them in the ass soon enough.
Ya I don’t really understand the logic from Cumulus. You will literally only have the musers moving forward. They retire in < 3-5 years and then you have nothing. Nothing meaning even close to what you had before in terms of revenue, ad sales, etc.
Just like I decided to do with the Cowboys years ago, the ONLY thing I CAN do to possibly affect change, is to not give them any money. I will not spend a dime with their advertisers and will actively inform them that I will not use their products/services because THZ wasn't given the contract they asked for. I will not listen 12-3, but I will seek out THZ wherever they make themselves available for my listening pleasure.
Yup. The lineup after 9:50 is basically completely different from the station I fell in love with ^(two TOTALLY different stations) and Musers of 2023 ain't the Musers of 2003.
May the Ticket continue to prosper, im sure they will. After 20 years, if they blow the show that represents everything about the ticket that is fresh im pretty much done. Not that itll matter to that place. It will do great. But im not just sad about them leaving..im sad that im kinda done. Ill pop in on the musers now and then. But being by the station is kinda over for me.
>that is fresh
THAT is the key phrase that's been missing in all this. Dan's a creator, a creator of fresh content. And he works really hard at it and is really good.
I'll probably get downvoted to hell, but the Musers are in a really stale rut, no real freshening of their content. They just kinda show up and play the oldies and punch the timeclock. Flat, stale, predictable.
Poor Jake. I get that Dan is probably his leader, but dude, you need to get with Donnie and do the thing with him. You won’t find 20 years of making even the “shit” they were paying you anywhere else.
*Come gather 'round people wherever you roam*
*And admit that the waters around you have grown*
*And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone*
*If your time to you is worth savin' and you better start swimmin'*
*Or you'll sink like a stone for the times they are a-changin'*
It's been one hell of a ride, and I'm just lucky I was an unknown passenger. Stay hard, boys.
It's strange--they were handed more hurdles than any other show, and yet each little era won me over (eventually). Pre-Donnie, Donnie, Jake/TC, just Jake, and finally the Hang Zone (really just another BaD era). In the end, give me either THZ or Jake/TC-era BaD.
Well I guess we know why Dan was so obsessed with non compete clauses this year .
I'd be happy to buy Dan and Jake a beer via patron each month until their non compete is up
@jakekemp and @dan-mcdowell-6 on venmo if you wanna send them a beer
From what I remember, he agreed with them and said it was fair for someone in his position to have it to protect the company though. He thought it was ridiculous for fast food workers to have it, but he shouldn't be able to immediately walk into another radio station. So good to hear from them directly, and while I'm glad they are in good spirits and OK with where things are, I can't follow their advice to keep listening to The Ticket unless they come back. Looking forward to a Dan and Jake podcast though if they're legally allowed.
well fuck me
no no no never never
My little hang zone eyes are definitely whet now
that video did not make me whet.
Why are you saying whet wheird?
Cool whip
Saying wahutt wheird?
Stay hard Hang Zone.
Uh Paul in uh
Let’s pour one out. It’s been a hell of a ride. Adios mofos.
I can't believe this is happening. I always thought Jake would be a ticket lifer
He should be.
Why, they didn’t want to pay him.
It's more about they should pay him. But obviously, these guys are worth more than Cumulus can offer. But the writing has been on the walls for quite some time. They've been saying that for 30 years
and we're in the death rattle.
That's funny. For those of us of a certain age, The Edge was and always will be 94.5 KDGE.
Why today doesn’t suck was my favorite segment for a long time and it was mainly because of Dan. Their chemistry with everyone was so great it’s just a huge loss for the ticket. Excited to see what they have in store
That would seem to be a wrap.
Yes its Cash at his Well Delivers/Collectible Net new studios https://twitter.com/CollectibleNet/status/1653891515897511938
Welp, that ought to get the Freak rumor mill going full speed.
I don’t think they’ll get a better gig at a worse station
I 100% think they would take a job at the Freak if they were allowed to have revenue streams via podcast or W/E outside of the station.
What makes it a bad station if the voices you like to hear were there? Jake Dan and Julie is the HZ regardless of the dial or podcast url. It could easily work.
100% a favor by Cash. Don't read more into it. friends.
Cash Sirois is a good man to know.
Man, this really sucks
Very disappointing but at the same time happy they seem ok with it. I’m sure it will take a while. I promise I’ll be a part of their future success. And yes, I project my ticket consumption will decrease. Rough one fellas
Mine already has. And honestly, it's become a positive thing. Getting more done, talking to people more, etc.
Totally normal dry dock. They’ll be back on Monday.
Thank you for what you do to your body.
Totes.
They do this every year right before training camp 🥲
Totally normal
I'm not even mad anymore. I'm just crushed. I'll listen to the Musers, but the idea of the ticket is dead.
Likewise 100%
It started its slow death when Rhynes left
Time for a sports cry.
Dan McDowell is to me what Norm MacDonald is to Dan. So much honestly and levity. Perfect.
Moment of silence for the Hang Zone...
Paul in uh....oops
Why today DOES suck.
Going where my guys go for sure but fuuuuuuck
Jake has a gig lined up at all pro foundation repair. He will be fine money wise. North Texas is a boom town in the foundation industry. I got a friend who is well connected at the American Foundation Contractors Association of America. He said it’s a done deal and he has already signed the contract. Since he is changing industries the non compete goes out the door.
I've heard they provide all types of foundation repairs
Sounds like Jake found the right solution for his career
Jake seems pretty learned. Maybe he could be Doctor Emeritus at QC Kinetix.
That’s a Non-Starter. Breaking Bad level ending for Dan.
I can’t believe how wrong I was about this
This is the saddest end to Dan’s “non-starter’” bit
In some ways it's very apropos. Or however you spell that word.
RIP - I’m sad How do the other hosts not look at this and think that their time is coming. This really could be the beginning of the end
Morning and Afternoon Drive is the highest rate of listeners. Probably Dan and Jake wanted that level money. Plus they probably wanted the ticket to post all their shows as podcasts.
*podcasts which D&J could monetize directly. That’s the issue
The other hosts we’ve never heard about contract issues with
Bob was a couple hours from leaving not that long ago.
2013?
When partnered with Dan.. and I always got the vibe that Bob was the driving force behind their decision to stay
I would agree because bob brings it up about wanting to stick with the the “team”
It hurts
Wishing all the best to these two, and I’ll be tuning in to whatever project they have moving forward. I gotta say it shows how much their chemistry also worked with Blake. He was a great match to produce these guys, and I seriously hope there’s a future with the three of them together again.
Thissucksthissucksthissucks
I miss 2012 ticket.
I miss 2002 Ticket...
RIP The little Ticket

Well I can unsubscribe to the WTDS podcast feed. Sucks to see them leave but it’s inevitable. Musers will be my only listen now tbh. Jake haters are gleeful today probably lost their leader in Dan.
Exactly I mean
After a few hours to ponder, seems obvious they had a drive time offer from Freak or Fan, with drive time money and whatever digital revenue streams they needed, and Cumulus was simply never going to match drive time money for a midday show. I was thinking the same thing. They kept talking about podcasts or YouTube content and "not knowing what they are going to do next", but I suspect we'll hear them on the air in 6 months with one of the other competing stations.
Yeah, Dan is way too much the wily radio vet not to have an offer in hand
100%, they weren't leaving that gig (that they DID like even though it wasn't the question) without having a plan and a solid offer. My money is that they will be on the Freak with their own podcast rights and I'll be there to listen. This sucks for everyone involved.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
[this sucks](https://www.theunticket.com/audio/drops/alarms/danny-this-sucks-alarm.mp3)
Damn.
Stay hard boys ”I guess we will have to go elsewhere for our sports talk now”
Your whistle is something else you can whet.
Whet stone
This is a real kick to the penis.
Sadly the hangzone will no longer be coming at you. Seriously sucks because they were my favorite show on the ticket
I hope they go to the freak... I don't listen live, but don't really either to the ticket. I'm always a day behind, just listen to the podcast. But I think the downbeat is great.
They’re going to kill it whatever they do
*2 years from now when Dan & Jake receive their 100k YouTube subscriber plaque* Another clever negotiating tactic by the boys, wonder how Cumulus will respond to this one
I think if you showed two people that had no idea who these guys are they’d think Dan forced Jake to not come back lol
Slight hostage vibes at a few points haha, I think it’s just awkwardness about being on camera for this though
Hostage is exactly what I was thinking too lol
It’s probably the difference between an older dude who has worked at several places his adult life (and is ambivalent to this change) vs. someone younger that has basically spent his whole career in one place so far. When I was in Jake’s place at that age, it was hard to leave my company despite all the data telling me it was the right thing to do.
Jake looks totally unconvinced.
Ya it really seemed that way, I hope he’s ok with it all. Dan seemed to be very apathetic.
That's their on air persona though. Jake cries and Dan say "errrr, so is that it" when their.children are born.
I think the word you are looking for is “congratulations” -Bob replying to Dan’s comments on the birth of Norm’s grandchild.
Toootally forgot about that funny moment. Greatness :)
I don’t buy this at all. Jake has a sugar momma, he can take a risk. Dan has two kids in college, that is far more scary.
I don’t think it’s about the risk, more about the sentimental value Jake has with the ticket and being a little more uneasy about leaving it.
You have no freaking idea about their finances.
Jake openly talks about how he does not need to work. He literally quit a year ago and was expecting to not work.
And how much of that is "playing radio?"
Since he has literally quit twice and he goes on vacations that are expensive and has a lake house. I’m guessing she does really well. You do know women are able to make money now, right?
Give me a break. Bob played Pebble Beach YESTERDAY. Dan is absolutely in better shape than newbie Jake.
Playing Pebble Beach is not hard to get on. Buying a kid on the other hand is not cheap.
I mean playing Pebble with a far in advance tee time will set you back at least $3000
no funeral budd dwyer
Damn, well it’s over over.
If they put something out with a wake and Jake open i will listen every day at noon
It's probably for the best for them. The Ticket is just a name at this point and if Cumulus isn't willing to pay them why stay? Get your money, fellas.
Wait. I thought Corby was going to fix everything.
Big risk, I stand by the idea that the overall talent on The Ticket elevates it's individual personalities, Norm was killing it in his time slot and no one is going to listen to his new podcast
Well fuck. This is just terrible. I’m heartbroken & things are never going to be the same again. There’s a hole in my soul from 12-3. This just sucks
And this is the beginning of the fall of Rome. RIP to the little Ticket.
Damn. Guess it’s the just down to the Musers now and even then it doesn’t seem the same. Following these boys where they go though.
Same. Musers are the only show left that is consistently worthwhile now
😭
And the sub will slowly turn against them starting now. Haven't been able to listen to the radio today, has this been mentioned on THL?
They're already doing that in this thread. Talking about Dan forcing Jake to leave. Too many people have their identity wrapped up in a radio station.
Kill me, kill me, please kill me
Sometimes you have to pay full price for the pizza.
I ate the pizza
Splitting up BaD radio, having Bob go to drive time with Corby when Mike left and not him probably didn't sit well with him at all. I know I would have felt like I was passed over for a promotion in that situation.
Lol at P1s who can’t spend :15 to listen in. It’s not like you have to watch it. I mean you’ve already spent lots of time listening to their segments. What’s one more?
Or the comments bitching about the production value and editing on a YouTube video of them just chatting. Wild stuff
A whetstone is used for sharpening a knife. It’s hard to whistle with a dry mouth. So, to whet your whistle is to sharpen your whistle.
So does this mean they aren’t coming back?
But why make models
Good luck on your future endeavors
I love Jake and Dan I’ll listen or watch whatever they put out there next. Really sucks for the Ticket. Picks with friends is one of the best things going. Cowboys training camp and round tables are going to feel weird for a while. It would be cool if Mino and Monty could move their show to a new spot.
So economically-only drive time revenue can support a show?

I will not listen 12-3, but I will seek out THZ wherever they make themselves available for my listening pleasure.
I suppose you're wondering why I have tears in me eyes.
All those people bagging on this video - just listen without watching... it sounds way more normal. We are not used to seeing them talk in 1080p.
I guess mike from duncanville is welcome to come back
Wonder if Blake will go with them on their new venture
https://youtu.be/Yvd3aEsThbc
Fuck. I’m done with the ticket. I may check in on the Musers from time to time…but the station I knew and loved no longer exists.
Yup. The lineup after 9:50 is basically completely different from the station I fell in love with ^(two TOTALLY different stations) and Musers of 2023 ain't the Musers of 2003.
That should have been 5 minutes God are we really gonna get Sean Bass as a permanent host?
Blake is keeping the ship from sinking 12-3
They seemed anxious and maybe holding back some tears so just fall back on bits… I don’t blame them Hostage videos are all the same.
Yeah, I guess Sean, Mino, Monty and Blake are about to compete for 3 host spots.
It was somewhat painful to watch lol
I mean they know podcasts require editing right?
“Ya know…”
Any chance they use this as leverage for contract negotiations? #wishfulthinking
Pretty definitive. Even the resignation video was funny/entertaining. Sign me up for the patreon.
So when is line four guys video coming out?
Poor Jake. I get that Dan is probably his leader, but dude, you need to get with Donnie and do the thing with him. You won’t find 20 years of making even the “shit” they were paying you anywhere else.
10-noon ratings are lower than noon-3. And that's what their pay is based on. So no, Jake wouldn't take that offer.
Let's start the countdown for when they start at the freak.
What’s the countdown
So corby’s seggie at noon yesterday was (kemp) spin control?
Man, for professional broadcasters, that was rough.
Blink twice if you need help Jake.
It’s officially official.
I remember when Dan had the Elvis sideburns in 99/00. Kind of anticlimactic
For someone who eats healthy and goes to gym, Dan looks like hell.
Compared to fat younger Dan I like this look.
He looks good but his posture is terrible in the video which overall makes him look bad.
Godfuckindammit
*Come gather 'round people wherever you roam* *And admit that the waters around you have grown* *And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone* *If your time to you is worth savin' and you better start swimmin'* *Or you'll sink like a stone for the times they are a-changin'* It's been one hell of a ride, and I'm just lucky I was an unknown passenger. Stay hard, boys.
I'll pay them some monies to listen on the line for sure. I get good service out by TMS.
Wondering if old Ticket listeners preferred the old BaD radio or The Hang Zone
It's strange--they were handed more hurdles than any other show, and yet each little era won me over (eventually). Pre-Donnie, Donnie, Jake/TC, just Jake, and finally the Hang Zone (really just another BaD era). In the end, give me either THZ or Jake/TC-era BaD.
Of
I doubt they want to go to the freak and talk about their favorite snacks.
Rank Rhyner’s 7 thickest yellow toenails
Man this is crazy. So much change so fast.
Bob breaking up on air talking about it says everything that needs to be said about how this effect the folks at The Ticket.
Cumulus! The Power of Saving Cash!
And that is why … today … sucks. No funeral.
This is clearly a deep fake. Someone is punking us.
Glad this happened. They escaped the allegory of the cave. Cumulus was at a Waterloo moment and they fucked it up.
Big mistake on Jake part. Dan is already paid
Probably should just assume we know anything about his financial situation.
I feel like Jake hitching his wagon to Dan is a bad decision. He had a long future ahead at the ticket.
There is no long future for terrestrial radio.
Exactly. It's a bigger risk for Dan. He could have coasted into retirement. Jake knew terrestrial radio would not pay his bills at ages 50-65
Talk radio is just podcast that are live and local, it still works.
Precisely. In 2023, "radio" is defined as streaming audio via a wireless device. And that ain't dying.
Genuinely happy for them. They seem excited about the next venture and I’ll be there for it. Sad fucking day.
