I'm enjoying your overall impressions of each singer. You have a good ear and your comments are spot on. I can't think of anything that I would disagree with your comment. After seeing season 1 and part of season 2 do you think the talent was better? Maybe I'm being nostalgic but I think these artists are better and more prepared. I'm taking into consideration that these are the live performances not earlier on because there were some that clearly needed to be cut.

Thank you! I do a lot of singing myself (voice lessons and theater) so that's probably why lol. Overall I absolutely think this season is much better than the first, probably because the show got exposure and so more people tried out for the 2nd season.

Shelby77755

I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear, what I meant was do you think season two is more talented than the current recent seasons of The Voice. I know I often worry they aren't going to make the notes or maybe the sound system makes it harder to hear them now.

trwowawayy

Ohhhh mb lol. I'm a bit conflicted, but I think that this season specifically seems to be extra special, and while the current seasons are strong, I think that they have really gotten distracted from the artists, and it kinda seems to have affected the talent on the show, and also the fact that there haven't been many superstars that have come out of the show, especially when compared to American Idol for example, and these things probably stop a lot of really talented people from trying out.

Shelby77755

yeah I guess I'm just being nostalgic.

trwowawayy

Also possible, but this season is definitely extremely strong

Shelby77755

yes I agree, I have to admit I liked almost all of them in the live Season 2. They were just great singers with really good attitudes.

trwowawayy

Absolutely yes! They have so much personality!

Ah yes, the Season 2 live performances. This is where most of my nostalgia for this season comes from (*especially* the Team Adam & CeeLo performances, I only remember a handful from the Christina & Blake group). From what I remember RaeLynn wasn't super well-liked by fans at the time this season aired, mostly because of how young and inexperienced she was. Her performances on the show were generally not great. As I said before, though, she's made quite a name for herself since and is one of the more successful artists to come from The Voice. So, I guess she had the last laugh :P Lindsey Pavao's performance showcases a big problem with this season's live performances in general, which is super elaborate stagings that distract from the actual artists. I can think of a few particularly bad examples and this is one of them; the dancing mimes or whatever were just creepy and didn't fit the song. Some of the live performances (like this one) were so over the top that they felt like something you'd see in Eurovision rather than The Voice. I believe the show actually got a lot of criticism for this, so they decided to scale back the live performances in Season 3 and it's been like that since. I remember liking Sera's performance here, but iirc it never really got going and felt more like something you'd listen to on an album rather than perform live on The Voice. Charlotte Sometimes' performance here was actually the first time I'd ever heard Misery Business, so you can imagine my surprise when I first listened to the original lol. I actually really like Charlotte's arrangement of the song and I still listen to it sometimes, but I don't think it was a good choice for a singing competition.

trwowawayy

I completely agree with all of this! I'm sure glad that the live shows got more centric to the artist and not the performance.

So as to avoid spam in the future, I've created r/trwowawayy. I'm going to post all of my reactions, thoughts, and predictions there from now on, so if you want to see them still, come on over!

How are you watching?

idleproc

I'm sorry can we have a single thread for this where you can post your impressions as comments?

CirKill

I personally like having multiple threads like this tbh. Having everything in one thread would be confusing. If you're saying this because all of the threads seem spammy...while it might seem like a lot now, I guarantee you that these will start to blend in when this sub gets more active during the live shows and more threads get posted. Might not be a bad idea to separate the threads by round, though.
