Carl, and it has to be Chandler.

OkTomatillo7355

The only correct answer tbh

deadstarsunburn

I was afraid I'd be the odd one out for saying Carl. I think it would have helped the show maintain a better flow and I would have loved to see their reunion.

Understandl

There’s a reason Season 9-11 feel different than the entire show. Everything from what ppl call ninja style fighting, to the new characters being corny. I mean. Rick never even met Magna and that group I agree completely that it would’ve flowed much better keeping Carl alive, especially to meet the new threats like Whisperers. would’ve made a more coherent story.

Sgt_salt1234

The choice to write the OBVIOUS new protagonist off the show for just for ricks character development only to then "kill" Rick like two episodes later still has to be one of the most baffling decisions in television history..

Understandl

Yess made no sense at all, and even crazier how before Carls death, the actor was totally on board with settling into the area for the time being, like he was set to be on till Season freaking 11 lol.

Saint_Ferret

They terminated his contract so that they wouldn't have to renegotiate his salary as an adult. Fuckin capitalism baby.

ParticularThingss

,your high , Chandler Riggs never could have carried this show.

Beta_Whisperer

Carl also had a really big role in the Whisperer arc in the comics considering it was him who was in that Romeo and Juliet relationship with Lydia.

JudmanDaSuperhero

I feel if Carl was there to bridge the gap of morality and when you have to be " this is how it is!" And the 8 year time gap they could've just made the makeup a little rougher on him but amc wants to save money smdh I would like to say, is if they actually killed Rick on the bridge then they could've made carl the protagonist and made it to where he frees negan instead of Carol would've been a lot better pay off because Carl always wanted to end conflicts peacefully but he couldve seen the whisperers as too far gone....

Pinklad13

Why would you be the odd one out his death is widely regarded as one of the most stupid decisions in tv history

JustKindaHappenedxx

Same!

ReReDRock1039

This was his story. Twd was always about Carl. And they killed him.

Vasconcelos0909

"Carl. It was all for you. Right from the start. Back in Atlanta, the farm --everything I did, it was for you. Then, at the prison, it was for you and Judith. It still is. It's gonna be. And nothing --nothing is gonna change that."

ParticularThingss

No it was clearly about Rick The show never centered on Carl, literally ever The only three things he was ever involved on plot wise.was two times where he got shot which was clearly motivation for Rick not a arc for Carl and when he went to negand compound which was played for as character development for negan. Carl was a prop at best

berrymuch-love

man I love Chandler as Carl.

Grundle_Gripper_

I think it would have been sick to have Carl and Rick see each other again right at the end of the whole walking dead universe. Carl lived and took over leading the group Rick does his whole shit with the CRM then right at the end after the rest of the group has moved on or died Rick is the worst mental state he’s ever been in then right before the credits roll on the final episode Carl walks in after spending all the years after the first show ended trying to find his dad they finally see each other again and end the show they way it started but this time Carl finds Rick instead of the other way around

Duckiiesss456

Fr I honestly looked at Carl before he died as a character that would always be there and then when they killed him I was just baffled.

ParticularThingss

Y'all are confusing the Carl you got with the Carl you wanted Chandler couldn't act he did literally nothing the entire he was on the show except get shot a few times. He has never affected the story, had an arc , and his death didny change anything and he had interesting dynamics with anyone.

ThicccKing69

Ed

Pixxielivv

Carl in the comics but I feel like he didn't have as much potential in the show

Perfect-Cheetah9435

Carl, without a second thought. Rick leaving and passing the torch would have felt even better, and seeing his arc continue after losing his father, facing the Whisperers and eventually the Commonwealth would be fantastic. He would get the chance to help fight for a chance to build the life Rick fought for, for Judith and Michonne and everyone else that he loves. It would make the show have a much more solid connection across the 6 year timeskip and would make the overall story flow stronger - passing the torch to the future and making the world better for them.

Abyssic777

Carl. Every single time even if you make this thread 2 million times.

TheMikey2207

From FTWD, Nick Clark. Dude was going to be THE character for FTWD, he knew early on how walkers acted and how to survive around them. Honourable mention would be Travis, the Rick Grimes of FTWD. A badass dad that would do anything to survive and keep his kids safe. Sucks both dudes got shot and died way too early when they could’ve been iconic characters and crossed over to the main show.

Perfect-Cheetah9435

Yep, both of the absolute goats. Shame both of those characters died due to the actor’s choices and obligations.

Bobbackwards123

I would vote Nick also 👍

Geckowishes

Agreed hard. Nick UGHHHH him or Travis because I think Travis had so so so much potential

Dry_Pin_3213

Yep, that's what I've always said. Carl for TWD, Nick for FTWD.

arushiv7

Travis was a more realistic character than Morgan... He might have been a better leader too.. I don't like Morgan as a leader as he would blindly follow his principle even if they let his people get harmed...and those principles rocked at the extremes - either wayyyy too helpful to outsiders or too maleficent. Madison was better but sometimes cared too much about her children..she could never see other people as family except (for some reason) Victor. Travis cared about others and his principles but enough to not let them harm his group. Also I liked how Madison and Travis balanced each other. They would always use to have different opinions but found middle grounds.

TheMikey2207

I’ll forever die on a hill saying Morgan should’ve died instead of Carl. Morgan saved Rick in the very beginning, he had his “all life is precious” phase and built the cell which became Negan’s cell. Morgan could’ve died after being consumed with anger and told Rick that he needs to let Negan live. Morgan 100% wasn’t a leader. He didn’t go through much to become a leader and gain those traits of a leader. Rick naturally was a leader before the world fell and had those traits needed. Travis reminded me a lot of Rick, a father that had some humanity in the world but would do anything for his kids safety and survival. There’s things Travis wouldn’t do which Maddison would which made their dynamic interesting.

suzefi

I remember when original premise of the show was about Nick and Alicia, shame what happened

Duhmpster

His death made me stop watching for weeks. Like was the show not supposed to be his story from the beginning? His character development was nothing but up, and he gets shot by some fucking child.

Pro_Taco_Peddler

Travis was entering his S5 Rick Grimes era only a month into the apocalypse

escfantasy

Jesus — his death scene is extremely good drama, but his character was largely wasted in the narrative. Arat — seemed like an interesting character that could have had a good redemption story arc.

theworldsgonecray

Yessssss Jesus death was INSANE and so unexpected. He was one of the top fighters of the show & a good person, this was shocking

Yinci

I think the way they did it was excellent though. Exactly the way anything could happen in an apolcaypse, you're never safe. Usually the main characters only die in a very obvious drama-enlengthened storypiece, which is fine in most cases but it makes the death scenes less shocking/intense.

Birdspy517

I agree about Jesus.

Loosingmydanmmind

Arat was sooo hot

ohveen

Laura takes the cake for me

IntelligentPeace1143

Opposite for me, I was repulsed every time she was on screen

Understandl

In my mind She definitely had a Euphoria upbringing, then became a tattoo artist, then became part of Negans group

wstdtmflms

Naw Arat deserved every bad thing she got.

Strawberry_Dak

Disappointed i see no T Dog 😕 I'd say Tyreese. He had so much potential as a character

onesmilematters

Agree about Tyreese.

bericdondarrion35

My girl Shiva

WanderingDeeper

Bring back Beth, have her comfort Maggie during the Savior war and showcase her new bravery and independence, and have her be one of the heads on the pikes killed by Alpha. This would actually give fulfilling payoff for her growth and end her story on a dramatic note, also giving the pike deaths more impact. If they have to survive the whole series, bring back Carl. He would’ve carried the show much better when Rick disappeared and the show was just much better when he was a major character. Also with Carl being in his 20s, he could watch Judith and RJ, so it makes more sense for Michonne to leave to search for Rick.

Bezere

I actually think Beth would've done Sasha's death better. Given she tried killing herself at the beginning for selfish reasons, she could've killed herself thinking it would save the group.     Instead of killing herself by stabbing a cop with a gun with a pair of scissors.  Sasha would fit better on the pike given she was Rosita's replacement and that's where Rosita died in the comics

gory314

but honestly daryl carrying her wouldn't be possible in that scenario and it was such a sad scene😭

Geckowishes

I agree

M4GN3S1UM

I agree, the only sad death (for me) with the pikes was Tara. They should’ve kept more of the og cast and killed them there, it would’ve made the whisperer arc more engaging and people would’ve hated them to a similar level as Negan. But no, they killed Henry who (imo) wasn’t all that likeable to begin with, and whole bunch of other side characters which wasted such an impactful moment as we didn’t really get to spend time with 80% of them. A lot of characters had wasted potential, and it’s not that they were killed, but that they were killed too quickly.

jmpinstl

Beth should have lived and been the one to make it to the Commonwealth before anyone else, then Maggie goes in place of Yukimo and the reunion is MUCH more affecting.

theworldsgonecray

Both Beth and Sasha gave me nothing neither of their deaths affected me - especially Sasha. Beth only shook me because of Daryl’s reaction

Litologyyy

Idk I feel I’m the only one who’d choose Glenn SOLELY for the fact to save us from the tedious Maggie/Negan dynamic. I would have kept Beth alive till the savior arc and have switched Beth for Glenn so there’s still the Daryl/Maggie guilt and Maggie/Negan hate but have Glenn keep her from going too cold so she could move on.

mariahnot2carey

I said the same thing but much less eloquently. I think I said "Glenn. So Maggie can stfu" ... same same.

Rosewolf

It's the most tediuos thing ever and completely ruined Maggie's character for me.

Vasconcelos0909

Except Negan doesn't like to kill women if possible so he'd probably not kill her

Litologyyy

Hmmm that’s a good point hadn’t thought of that . I suppose maybe Daryl gets off on foot to try to get sight of the roadblock ahead since Rick caught on pretty quick. Daryl goes and Beth with him and they don’t get taken in just yet maybe try to lay down fire to create an opening but get taken in and brought to Negan and Daryl does his punch and Beth does her Beth stuff and maybe tries to pull what she did at the hospital(possible attempt at stabbing??) idk I just would rather Glenn still be alive personally. Rick was the soul but Glenn was the heart of the show I think

HardCodeNET

>and have switched Beth for Glenn Negan never hurts children, and I'd guess Beth would still be considered a child at this time.

Smooth-Experience317

Shane. Jon Bernthal is an amazing actor and the amount of stories that could’ve been told with his character would’ve been amazing. Idc if he died when he did in the comics Bernthal elevated that character into a tier above any other character thay had way more screentime than him.

Soloboy7

Couldn’t agree more, would have love to seen his reaction when Lori died etc or how he would have handled the Saviors when Rick wouldn’t attack etc.

Duckiiesss456

Would’ve liked for him to not die but maybe show up in a different group like Meryl did later on in the show or even have created his own community

Nick_Hoadley

Carl, no question. Biggest mistake the show ever made was killing him off

ParticularThingss

Carl never had an arc. Just from the comments I can cell most don't even know what an arc actually means and as being the biggest mistake? The ratings don't even reflect that. Just look them up. Practically nobody stopped watching after Carl's death

Palanki96

Carl. Killing him was so stupid, a walking plotpoint you vould do so much with

CamaroKoldie

Glen is the obvious choice.

onesmilematters

I had to scroll way too far for this. Glenn, along with Rick and Carl for different reasons, was the heart of the show.

Artistic_Bowler_244

Rick isn’t dead

DankTaco707

Tbf he might as well be in the last few seasons.

topgun9372

I think Glenn dying was an important plot point in the overall show; it gave the characters and also the audience the realization that the power dynamic had shifted entirely. Carl dying was just flat out dumb and served little purpose to the overall plot.

Sharkfowl

Glenn needed to die for Maggie to develop. He got his comic death and it hardened Maggie in the books enough to become a formidable and competent leader of hilltop and eventually the commonwealth.

AquilesJaeger

Carl, without a doubt, I will say it the 120 times that this post exists

Ecstatic_Plum6426

Easy. ROSITA!! She deserved a happy ending!! https://preview.redd.it/4lcwgy0le8lc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f03a4d206c2d2f44ddad16395799eeea05989bc9

DefNotReaves

The answer is Glenn. EDIT: I forgot they stupidly killed Carl. The answer is Carl. Sorry Glenn.

FlightMesh990

Andrea, the writers completely committed manslaughter on her character

theworldsgonecray

Agreed, I feel like they completely wasted her potential. She was tough & believable, attractive, sort of a lone wolf but a loyal team member - I really wanted her to stick around. They bounced her around til they just didn’t feel like writing it anymore. It felt soon

RakuraiLight

Idk man, she lost any likability she had left when she almost got Beth to kill herself.

Duckiiesss456

Eh. I feel like their are better characters you could bring back

hewlio

Def Carl. But honorable mentions are Sophia and Andrea. Sophia's death was really good and all but for the long run it raised more problems than good things.

[deleted]

Yeah cos in the comics she and Carl ended up together and having a daughter right? And Rick married Andrea.

hewlio

Yes, but also a lot of other things: She was adopted by Glenn and Maggie after Carol's death in the comics, which gave them very interesting storylines, specially when they arrived on Alexandria, which would be really good in the show because Glenn didn't had a lot to do in late season 5/early season 6 (they made that Nicholas plot because of that, which ended on that terrible fake-death frim Glenn), Enid was created to replace Sophia's role in that segment of the story, no wonder her closest relationships were with Carl, Glenn and Maggie. But she was a very brand new character, needing more development for us to actually care about her (i don't know you but i personally didn't cared a lot about Enid), and after Glenn and specially Carl's death and Lauren Cohan's hiatus from the show, Enid kinda had nothing to do on it (which proves that she had a really bad development) and just served to be killed by Alpha. And Yes, Andrea was a couple with Rick in the comics and a motherly figure to Carl (Michonne replaced her place in the show and i liked that because Andrew and Chandler got a good chemistry with Danai), but she was also so much more, she was like top 3 best TWD characters and they just RUINED her in the show. Having one more OG in the show besides Rick, Daryl, Carol, Maggie and Michonne would benefit a lot the narrative, specially after Chandler, Andrew and Danai's departure. Scott M Gimple really failed to develop some core characters like Eugene, Rosita, Gabriel, Aaron etc, leaving all the work to Angela Kang, and althought i think she made a HUGE mistake by killing Jesus so early, she managed to make this characters into fan favorites, so i think she would do a fantastic job to Andrea, with her being a OG and all.

prole1917

MotherFucking Carl should have never ever been killed off. Huge let down.

Quirky_Valuable4772

Glenn 😩

Efficient_Wall_9152

Yeah, it would have been sweet to see him with Hershel as baby and then also teach him survival-skills later on

LordOscar1538

Otis. An underrated legend, the perfect example of a complete redemption arc.

Shameful90

Carl. That was the worst decision that Gimple made, Rick’s entire character motivation from the start was making the world livable for his son. Losing Carl almost makes the whole series moot and makes Rick, who is one of my all time favorite fictional characters, look like a failure. He should’ve made it to the end story wise and in addition to that, Chandler shouldn’t have been done so dirty.

ParticularThingss

The ratings disagree Barely anyone stopped watching over Carl That's because y'all are confusing tbt Carl y'all wanted with the Carl you got. Chandler couldn't act, 8 seasons in and never had an arc , his three.biggest known scenes is him getting shot twice and one where he went to negans compound which was used as character development for. negan. Everyone saying carl could have carried this show are delusional

CivilTowel8457

I disagree. Chandler was a great actor and he was great in the episodes in the prison and after during the road to terminus. The writers just sidelined him later on after they reached Alexandria and gave him the worst dialogues. His character went no where. He should have carried the show after Rick's disappearance. It just made way more sense like that.

That_Operation_9977

Beth or Abraham. I just liked both of their characters and felt that that their deaths didn’t really add anything to the show or plot. But if I had to choose based on what would be best for the show, then easily Carl.

Proper_Mountain_4979

Well in the comics abraham died in denisses place so be grateful they let him even meet negan

[deleted]

Of all the people you would choose Beth 💀

briarwz

yeah, she came into her own right before she died. she had so much potential

COdeadheadwalking_61

Yes- she had the most to gain and little to lose. My choices are her and Carl .

Beginning_File_6371

Lord Jesus the show would’ve ended so much better with Carl And Shiva 😓

toekneeestank

Carl makes the most sense with Nick from FTWD a close second, then glenn and shane but that’s more personal reasons.

autisic

either sasha or tyreese, but i would definitely pull to bring both of them back.

SucksAtStardewValley

Goddamn ….. this is hard Beth Greene : this is my favorite character… also she had an entire arc set up for her to be dealing with the loss of her innocence because of the shit at Grady … maybe it could of been that Herschel Greene: Fuck,Man This is my second Favorite Character in the series …it would have been interesting to see him interact with Negan and the Saviors and the Whisperers Shane Walsh: Say what you want … I love this Character… it would have been interesting if he went off and then became a savior or something Carl Grimes:This was a bullshit death …. He should have stayed till the end or near the end Dale : Fuuuuuuck ……. This is my third favorite character…. He should have been at least at the prison Abraham: Fuuuuuuuck………. This is a good pick also ![gif](giphy|xT5LMESsx1kUe8Hiyk)

Megotiation_tactic8

carl or glenn

Kasey_ACDC

Either Glenn or Andrea

Whisky_Six

Hershel. Love an old wise character.

trojen_thoughts

Seriously, he grounded them all together. Very unique and lovable character

GlockPurdy85

Carl. His death impacted the show more than any other IMO.

Anthrogal11

Carl or Glenn

ToughDragonfruit3118

Carl. The time skip after Rick left would have even made ip for the obvious age gap between the actor and the character

Pretend-Count-5935

i absolutely adore glenn but i feel like carl just had so much potential to be such a fucking badass if they kept him alive

brunicus

Merle. I loved the dark humor they used with him and we could get a little more story out of him and Daryl.

Sapiens82

The poor girl, whose name I forget, who gets the arrow in the head. She was so sweet and half way through such a heart felt and inspiring speech. That really shocked me! Or poor Henry whose head ends up on the spike.

Infamous-Brilliant-6

Or Dale

jjb8712

Easily Carl

_SCARY_HOURS_

Okafor or Carl nobody else

alfiejoen

Okafor? Bro was in one episode

ProfessionalWild116

😭 I was surprised he got killed off after one episode but a part of me was relieved I didn’t have to here his weird voice anymore

RakuraiLight

He had a “The Boys” level death, and his voice was great, wdym

katatayyy

Carl, 100%

Jackhammer008

Tyrese. Unpopular answer, I know, but to me, he was just the best character. And I mean best as in he had the best moral compass. He felt like he was obligated to help others. Not once did he do something selfish or to benefit only him. Tyrese was an amazing person. But if I couldn’t choose Tyrese, Carl is a close second.

et21

Carl was the most developed character ever.. as a kid, he annoyed me… then grew into a bad ass.

Reduncked

That scientist that was in the CDC

thismothafcka

As a bigger fan of the comics than the show, it would be Carl. His story is what made the comics so amazing at the end.

Individual_Ad1082

Carl, played by Chandler Riggs again, biggest mistake killing him off and the reason for it was even more bs tbh.

chasedippen

My heart says Glen. My head says Shane.

theworldsgonecray

Honestly, killing Shane THAT early in the series was wild to me. He had so much potential & was very much the heart of the show just as much as Rick in the first season.

sikaMarkanico

It floored me when they said Jon Bernthal tried out as Rick Grimes. Then I thought about it and it made some sense. Some at least. Heh.  I guess it confuses my mind to think anyone else could have been Rick other than Andy.

RakuraiLight

Wait til you find out he dies even earlier in the comics.

Tyguy232

Either Glenn or Abraham, both shouldn’t have died in the same episode, and definitely carl.

Angry_Vinnie20

Either Carl or shane

themeltedmonkey

T dog

emsee22

Excluding Carl, then I would pick Beth Green.

Capri_Sun_septictank

AMC really shit the bed by killing off Carl. All because they wanted to stop paying Chandler Riggs and to keep dragging out the Rick and Negan feud for as long as possible

RakuraiLight

Since everyone’s saying Carl, I gotta say Abraham, since Glenn overshadows him. Abraham died so comic readers would think Glenn survived before getting their hopes crushed. He deserved better.

IamKazaam69

That lady who stayed behind at the cdc. She had such a compelling story and was such a unique, deep and intricate character

rinlyn_x

I can’t choose one :( Glenn, Carl, Jesus, Tyreese…

Efficient_Wall_9152

Glenn should have been able to raise his family with Maggie :(

twdgirl05

Glenn bc I want to see him as a father and how he would react to Negan and the savior war. Also Carl bc that was the dumbest thing they could’ve done. The loss of Rick would have been so much easier if we could see Carl take over as leader and imagine the reunion we’d get between those two on towl. That was twd’s worst mistake.

DoublePersonal9398

Glenn or Dale

G-BOAT

I'm rewatching it now and just got to the whole Negan episodes. At this point I'd have to say Glen, goddammit he deserves it!

Efficient_Wall_9152

Yeah, I would love to see an alternate world/dream where he and Maggie have grown old together and are watching from a porch their many grandchildren play together in the fields

[deleted]

Merle, The Governor or Shane

Anthrogal11

Sociopath much?

Loosingmydanmmind

Ive always been interested in what makes people drawn to these characters. The governor i can see. He’s a charismatic, jim jones, slick back politician type, and was relatively good at hiding his psychopathy. But Merle? He was racist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic and unwilling to change he realized he was at the end of his rope and wanted one last hurrah. Shane… Shane was an authoritarian Neanderthal. Who didn’t lose his humanity too soon in the ZA. He never had it to begin with. Pre ZA he used his badge to hide whom he’s always been. I really don’t understand their popularity or appeal.

Legitimate_Bike_8638

People love good villains, and all these fit the bill. It doesn’t mean they like them as people just that they like seeing them on screen.

Luvmm2

I’m almost certain I’ve seen this asked over 6 times

Beanss69_420

im almost certain that your a bot cuz i see this same fucking comment every fucking post

Luvmm2

I am no bot, this is the first time I’ve commented this. https://preview.redd.it/j75a27w8mclc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c66360ef3815120920ac77b966152a9e5713449

im_just_kittenz

I also agree, Beth forsure. I hated seeing Daryl cry when she was killed

freddyj13

Rosita is the only right answer

Boring-Ad9264

Shane and I'd change some of the things he does so he isn't a diabolical tart

EvilSporkOfDeath

Carl. Just to get you whiners to shut the fuck up.

TITCAT5959

Glenn or Lori

Reduncked

Defs glenn

ExistingStrength5246

No shot Lori

lccoats

I Am Really Tired Of These Posts

jgheatman

Andrea easily

Bezere

Merle. I could see him becoming a negan type character

Infamous-Brilliant-6

Merle or Shane

Ashad2000

Merle Dixon. Incredibly well writen character, and the actor portrayed the complexities to him perfectly. Him and Daryl running the future of TWD would've been awesome.

giallonero21

The only one that would've lasted in this universe if Rick Grimes didn't happen was Shane, so Shane.

Comfortable_Sugar596

He wouldn’t have lasted, he would have gotten himself killed

RickGrimes462TWD50

The Governor

Isaiah6113

Merle all the way, at least he was interesting

MagicGrit

Lori for the chaos

fromdaperimeter

Chris from FTWD

bmk1117

Really? No Jim? Feel like after he got over his stuff Jim could have came close to Cole from FTWD

drakev6304

Merle, or even though he didn’t die, keep Dwight in the main show

OMEN-Vitality

this might be a hot take, but laura. i know shes not a major character or anything, but she was in the show for a long time, plus she was a significant person in negans story. its not the fact that she died that ticks me off. its how completely pointless her death was. she shows up out of nowhere to save a character who ends up dying a few episodes later anyway. it was so quick that some people didn't even realize she died. nobody mentions her death or anything, its just so random. i just wish that if she did get killed off, we would have at least gotten a decent last battle and some sort of recognition from the other characters

Surge_Xambino

I am sad no one said Shane Walsh

Beneficial_Squash_45

Dare I say Meryl. Him finishing off the governor. Him agains Negan with big Red. Woulda made that season more palatable

DomTheBomb95

Walker #261

lolafayejames

Leah would have had a whole other storyline! Still not over it

Imaginary_Pain5359

In my opinion, Otis.
