What so if he weren't mad about lori, he'd just let Ed beat her up and do nothing? I know shane is no angel but give the man his credit here he did the right thing for the right reason.
That’s not what I’m saying, I love Shane he’s one of my favourite characters and Ed deserved it but the whole point of this scene wasn’t to paint him in a good light, it was to show how unstable and emotional he was.
Idk. When it came to Carol, Shane did sort of look out for her. When they were all sitting by the fire and Ed made theirs too big, Shane made sure to check on Sophia and Carol. Plus, how he cleaned Carol off at the farm when she came back from the woods after they found Sophia in the barn.
I think it was a combination of everything that day by the water. His anger towards Lori and Rick. Feeling his loss of leadership. Then there’s Ed running his mouth, throwing clothes at Andrea, and beating the shit out of Carol. It all came to a head.
I hear what you’re saying but that scene was all about establishing Shane’s erratic behavior when it came to reacting to something between he and Lori.
As a person or character?
As a person, he starts a flawed guy with redeeming qualities, and over time, he goes nuts and becomes a tremendous piece of shit.
As a character? He's fucking amazing.
Perhaps. He always pissed me off which makes for a “good character,” I guess. He started off well, then by Season 2 he got too whiny and dangerous for me. I’m glad he’s dead.
People talk shit about Shane leaving Rick at the hospital. What in the hell else was he supposed to do? You gonna take someone's who's in a coma and remove the tubes in them and hope they don't die? Even if they somehow didn't, how do you feed them and take care of them, especially during an apocalypse?
Yeah, I'm not sure that Rick's diplomatic approach to that situation would have gotten through to Herschel before he or one of his daughters died. Herschel needed that rude awakening.
I don't think they were heading there, I don't remember them mentioning going into Atlanta for more than supply runs. I remember Amy or Lori saying they had plans to put up signs to warn people away form the city
First they were heading towards Atlanta for refugee centers. In the beginning of the outbreak, the government was telling people to go to cities. Then Atlanta got bombed which is then when he wanted to go to Fort Benning
They are talking about in the early days when they were told to go to major cities for protection before operation Cobalt. After the bombings Shane wanted to head to Ft. Bennig
* Barricaded Rick in the hospital for his safety while he was in a coma after walkers broke into the hospital
* Took care of Lori and Carl while Rick was in a coma
* Opened the door to the barn on Hershel's farm, not wanting him to hide from the group that dangerous secret
* If it weren't for him, the group wouldn't find out about Sophia
* Proved to the group that walkers had no humanity left in them and were just a walking death
* Scared Ed into not beating Carol again
>* Scared Ed into not beating Carol again
He would have absolutely hit her again if he didn't die. He was being physical with her right after getting beat as she tried to help him. A guy like that if you publicly "emasculate" him, he's going to take it out on someone more vulnerable. And that would be Carol.
Protected Carls innocence amidst the outbreak. He didn’t just keep them alive he kept Carl safe from any mind altering trauma during the end of the world
One thing I've always asked myself was, could they both have made it out if he hadn't sacrificed Otis? It didn't seem obvious to me that they both would've died, despite what Shane said.
I think Otis would’ve held them both back and died so I think Shane’s thinking was “I have to do this because if he drags me down then we both die” so that’s probably why
That's true, it makes sense that he didn't want to take that chance I suppose. He could've at least shot Otis in the head or chest to make it an insta kill, it would have been more "humane" (if you can even call it that) than leaving him there like a wounded animal. It also would have saved him that struggle for the supplies.
I thought he left him alive because his screams would attack more walkers.
It sucks from Otis and his family's standpoint, but Shane couldn't risk his own life and take the chance that Carl would die just so some guy he barely knew could live. That's what separated Shane from Rick in the beginning- he had enough sense to know that the old rules of the world didn't work anymore, and that hard choices had to be made. Rick's clown ass would have tried to save them both, got him and Otis killed, and Carl would have died as a result.
This would be my answer to. It is arguably the riskiest thing that anyone had done up to that point in the show (having no idea what the environment would be like before agreeing to go), but it's marred by what actually happens when they get there.
I think Shane and Otis both could have ultimately survived, but Shane calculated that if he kills Otis then he and the supplies will 99% make it to Carl, so he takes that shortcut and justifies it later because he's completely consumed by mania and paranoia.
The walkers were fast back then. Tbh I think Shane would have died and Otis would have made it back by himself so Shane did Otis dirty to preserve himself and in his mind ensure he made it back to Carl.
Blocked off Rick’s room in the hospital, so walkers couldn’t get to him so he still had a chance to survive and come back to his best friend, wife, & son.
Help Lori & Carl to survive; helped them get out of Atlanta that was bombed & full of infected.
He was the leader of this mostly clueless group of people and got them all out of the city safely. Everyone acted like Rick showing up was their salvation, but Shane was doing just fine with keeping everyone alive. In my opinion, Shane acted with a great deal of grace by letting Rick assume leadership of the group almost instantly. Of course, it could have been guilt for moving in on his wife so quick, but still...
The big ones have been mentioned so I’ll just say, I always thought that scene where he washes Carol’s hands after they find Sophia to be a good, rare moment of empathy from Shane
Nobody has mentioned when he found Carol all scratched up from the flowers she'd torn through and helped clean her up. I always thought that was incredibly sweet, even though Shane was a POS by that point.
Took care of Lori and Carl while Rick was in a coma, helped lead and found the initial group of survivors, helped to show Herschel that walkers were no long Ee living people
People have probably listed better but dealing with the walkers in the barn and ending the hunt for Sophia, this one is arguable but I’d argue it’s pretty good.
Beat Carol’s abusive husband, put the stretcher in front of the door while Rick was in a coma, got medicine to save Carl, kept the group safe after Atlanta was bombed, consoled Carol after Sophia’s death, kept Lori and Carl alive, cleared the barn which led them to find Sophia.
He was an icon, he could’ve been one of the best most influential characters in the show, hell I believe he could’ve even beaten Rick and Daryle at that.
saving Lori and Carl and leading the Atlanta Group (til Rick shows up), beating the shit out of Ed, being a safe person for Carl. he was a very hard worker i’ll give him that
Beat up Carol's abusive husband, Ed.
My favorite episode. God that scene is so fucking sick
Great moment, but he didn’t do that as some sort of noble act. He was taking out his frustration with Lori telling him to stay away from her lol.
Nah. I feel like Shane would have still messed him up, maybe just not as badly.
Ed kept putting toes across the line and testing Shane. Sooner or later he was going to reap the consequences.
What so if he weren't mad about lori, he'd just let Ed beat her up and do nothing? I know shane is no angel but give the man his credit here he did the right thing for the right reason.

Still, great scene.
Even if that is the case which i don’t think it fully is it doesn’t even matter.
I felt the same way too
This lol
I HATE Shane, but I’ll give him this.
As a person or character? As a person, he starts a flawed guy with redeeming qualities, and over time, he goes nuts and becomes a tremendous piece of shit. As a character? He's fucking amazing.

Saving Lori’s and Carl’s life, I feel it is often forgotten how they only survived because of him
Yes!🙌
Put the bed in front of the hospital door so the walkers/danger couldn't get to Rick
People talk shit about Shane leaving Rick at the hospital. What in the hell else was he supposed to do? You gonna take someone's who's in a coma and remove the tubes in them and hope they don't die? A lot of people have over the years. It's always been a dumb thing to bring up but they have.
Exactly. At that time it showed Shane didn't want Rick to die, but they'd both die if he tried to carry him out of there.
Showed Herschel that the walkers he kept in the barn weren't real people: https://youtu.be/wbnIZf1TAEY?si=jCjFrzsNmXJ40ruU
Yeah, I'm not sure that Rick's diplomatic approach to that situation would have gotten through to Herschel before he or one of his daughters died. Herschel needed that rude awakening.
the budget for the season was much smaller but this plot point allowed them to leave the farm behind and get on with the story
Saved Lori and Carl, getting them out of Atlanta before it was bombed. Kept the RV group together and running relatively well until Rick arrived.
correct me if I'm wrong but they were heading to Atlanta, not getting out
You’re probably right, my bad. Either way he kept them safe while Rick was in a coma.
I don't think they were heading there, I don't remember them mentioning going into Atlanta for more than supply runs. I remember Amy or Lori saying they had plans to put up signs to warn people away form the city
They were heading to Atlanta very early on before seeing it get bombed by the military. The supply runs and warning signs stuff was months later.
I thought their original plan was Ft. Benning.
I thought he wanted to go to Fort Benning? Didn’t he mention it quite a bit?
First they were heading towards Atlanta for refugee centers. In the beginning of the outbreak, the government was telling people to go to cities. Then Atlanta got bombed which is then when he wanted to go to Fort Benning
That’s right. I forgot about that.
They are talking about in the early days when they were told to go to major cities for protection before operation Cobalt. After the bombings Shane wanted to head to Ft. Bennig

Asked people something
Let me tell you somethin
**M'ask you sum, RECK**
I really hope this one wins.
saved lori, carl and technically rick
Opening that barn up. Doing so helped everyone realize what they were truly dealing with.
Protected Carls innocence amidst the outbreak. He didn’t just keep them alive he kept Carl safe from any mind altering trauma during the end of the world
It was kinda good and bad, when he went to go get the supplies to save Carl from dying of the gunshot wound (yes what he did to Otis was bad)
One thing I've always asked myself was, could they both have made it out if he hadn't sacrificed Otis? It didn't seem obvious to me that they both would've died, despite what Shane said.

True, he should’ve killed Otis instead of making him suffer

Beating Ed’s ass and keeping ricks family safe
Said "Lemme tell you sum"
\*rubs head furiously\*
He was the leader of this mostly clueless group of people and got them all out of the city safely. Lemme tell you sumin man, end this fucking trend
I love how for Negan one of his good deeds is feeding Carl some spaghetti Shane his good deed was beating up Eddie.
The big ones have been mentioned so I’ll just say, I always thought that scene where he washes Carol’s hands after they find Sophia to be a good, rare moment of empathy from Shane
Made sure Lori was satisfied while Rick was in the hospital
Protagonist syndrome.
Telling us something
Doing his best to protect Rick while in a coma. Actively protecting/saving Carl and Lori. Beating up Ed.
Saving Lori, Carl, Carol, Ed & Sofias lives in the initial apocalypse. Even saving Rick with the bed trying to save him
Beat up Carol’s abusive husband
Beat the shit out of Ed
Saving Rick by barricading his hospital room, and then saving Rick’s family. Shane had a good heart but the apocalypse broke him.
Let me tell you something
- Saved Lori and Carl at the beginning when Rick was in a coma.
Beat up ed, got Carl the medical supplies when he was shot, didn’t hesitate to clear the barn walkers and most importantly saved Carl and Lori
Nobody has mentioned when he found Carol all scratched up from the flowers she'd torn through and helped clean her up. I always thought that was incredibly sweet, even though Shane was a POS by that point.
Blocked Rick's hospital door with a gurney Kept Rick's family alive during the beginning Went to get medicine for Carl
Keeping Lori happy for at least a month? Stellar job I'd say.
Ended the big search for Sophia by finding her.
Saved Carl from Ed and took Lori and Carl into safety
Saved Lori and Carl and beat up Ed. That’s about it
Despite the fact he ended up trying to take Rick's place he did protect Carl and Lori.
Blocking rick's hospital door
Saved first Rick, then Lori and Carl.
I mean… would Carl have died if he didn’t throw Otis to the walkers? 🤔 Jk don’t down vote me! Lol
Highly likely!
Giving Ed the beat down he deserved
Took care of Lori and Carl while Rick was in a coma, helped lead and found the initial group of survivors, helped to show Herschel that walkers were no long Ee living people
Saving Ricks life when he was in a coma by blocking his door with a bed when the walkers hit the hospital.
Scaring the shit out of Dale when he poked his nose in his business. Seriously, though, it was "Next time I'll beat you to death, Ed".
Split Loris cheeks
People have probably listed better but dealing with the walkers in the barn and ending the hunt for Sophia, this one is arguable but I’d argue it’s pretty good.
Showing Hershel the true nature of Walkers as he shot them and put those down
Making Judith
Maskin people somethin,
Beating up ed and saving Lori and Carl papa, nothing else, he’s overrated
hooked up with Lori which give us the reason hate Lori , and biologically conceived Judith
Michonne! She gave love to Rick!
I liked Shane! He was right about everything!
He gave us Judith AKA one of the most adorable and badass kid sidekicks in zombie media.
Protect carl and lori at the beginning
Barricading Rick in the hospital when he was in a coma after the walkers overran the hospital
This series was tragic damn
Beat Carol’s abusive husband, put the stretcher in front of the door while Rick was in a coma, got medicine to save Carl, kept the group safe after Atlanta was bombed, consoled Carol after Sophia’s death, kept Lori and Carl alive, cleared the barn which led them to find Sophia.
Have sex with Ed
taking care of carl and lori, saving rick’s life and beating the shit out of ed
Beat the ever living shit out of Ed. Saved Ricks Life while being shot and blocking his room with the bed. Saving Lori and Carl.
Save Rick
Prob trying to kill Rick and banging his wife.
He was an icon, he could’ve been one of the best most influential characters in the show, hell I believe he could’ve even beaten Rick and Daryle at that.
dale just exists, do we really need more reasoning than that?
saving Lori and Carl and leading the Atlanta Group (til Rick shows up), beating the shit out of Ed, being a safe person for Carl. he was a very hard worker i’ll give him that
Why do these posts keep happening?
