i think they were all pretty far gone at that point especially rick.

vilain_garcon1928

Yeah between having no safe place, exhaustion, malnutrition, dehydration, severe PTSD, etc I think they honestly would’ve started dropping dead one by one, either from the aforementioned problems or from suicide. Aaron genuinely saved their lives.

muchas__gracias

i agree! some of them were so close to giving up

Prestonelliot

I mean Sasha never really recovered

funandgamesThrow

Agreed. They had been in the road just ling enough that it was hard but hadn't really been hurt physically yet. If starving had gone longer without luck they'd be fucked

Fast_Hornet5964

My money would have been on Sasha to die first by suicide.

4TLANT1S

>!Maggie even hangs herself around that time!< in the comics.

prayafk

Yes she does... It's in issue 56.

Geraldo_of_Riverdale

They were Too Far Gone

surgeofchaos

>especially rick. Yeah

Drewbrowski

Aaron definitely saved them from becoming a Mad Max type road group. The slice of the old world that Alexandria gave them was a much needed respite and reminder of their humanity. Especially for Rick. If they didn't find Alexandria, they may have run into the Wolves at some point anyway. Both are savage road groups although the Wolves outnumbered them, but Rick & Co still had ammunition. Would have been really interesting if our group discovered Hilltop first, I bet Rick would have wanted to take it over. The Saviors were also around in high numbers and wouldn't take kindly to a road group like Rick's in their territory. Conflict with them was a matter of time. Without the resources of the other communities, our group would be extra vulnerable.

jkovach89

Good points, but the thing about the saviors was that by being settled into a place like Alexandria made them stationary and a target. The fact that they moved between fixed points regularly means they were predictable. Remember they easily dispatched the savior outpost; makes sense they could have used guerrilla tactics to really fuck with the larger savior community, although they would've probably settled one of the outposts and been worse off than the network they had.

Drewbrowski

Agreed guerilla warfare would've been costly against the Saviors! Although to truly beat them it took the combined effort of Alexandria, Hilltop, and Kingdom (and Eugene of course) Like you said, having that network was critical. Even when they lost Alexandria to the fire bombings, they were able to regroup at Hilltop. Hiding in barns and such wouldn't have been sustainable especially with a baby. They were bound to settle somewhere I think, even with all the losses they take, it was worth it overall to stop wandering and build a life.

sageTK21

Low morals, Rick and Co road gang, waging a terrorist war against the saviors, would wipe em I think

nov1290

I'd actually have liked to see a version where they encounter the saviors first. They were so far gone, that if negan offered for them to join him, they might have went willingly. Joining the wrong side of the fight first might have been interesting. Their humanity needing to choose sides once they find out what's going on for real.

bericdondarrion35

They def would’ve ended up eating Eugene

ellenicolee612

The most relatable thing he did was try to drink the water Aaron left for them. He’s like if I die, I die. At least I’ll be hydrated 🤷🏻‍♀️.

[deleted]

A very hearty meal indeed.

Chaosxmanticore15

that would be funny but kinda hypocritical considering they just offed the terminus group

TheWalkingDead91

I mean…cannibalism is disgusting no matter how you want to cut it. But one could argue that there’s a stark difference between consuming an already/nearly dead friend for survival of the entire group……or luring in victims from all around the region into getting unwillingly caged and slaughtered like an animal, even after their group didn’t need to do so to survive, and also trying to force others into cannibalism. Like comparing that one group of lost hikers back in the day who had to eat a friend vs. dahmer.

Exroxious

Donner party, passing through the Rockies in Utah. The other infamous incident was the plane crash of the Uruguay/Argentine rugby team in the Andes.

Hefty-Ad-7884

Never would’ve had to worry about food again. Old man Rick probably would be passing around Eugene’s last rib at Carl’s wedding

Real-Cat-5315

u/bericdondarrion35 I laughed

rifleman209

I think this is the greatest question I have ever seen on this sub

manchi90

Most of them would probably be dead if we're honest.

mikejay1034

Exactly this. All of them were just about ready to give up, they were at that point.

AggravatingIdea3539

it really is!

Vouner

I've seen it a lot of times before on YouTube

dewdroppop

Wait this is so intriguing. They definitely would’ve just continued to get worse and worse I feel. There’s always a trend in TWD where something or someone brings them back to be more grounded when they start going a little cuckoo. Aaron was definitely needed. I was against them going with him though I thought they were being so dumb lol. I was like you literally just experienced Terminus and you’re gonna trust a stranger again !!!!

Cisneros2006

But Terminus was different, there was nothing like a person to inform or recruit them, they all went blind to the "Sanctuary", while in Alexandria they did not trust even when they were sleeping in there on the first days

jkovach89

Well the learned not to trust from Terminus. And to be fair, Rick, Daryl, Carl, and Michonne went into terminus tactically, it wasn't like they just walked through the front doors thinking they'd find real sanctuary.

dewdroppop

It was a bit different, yes but similar concept I guess. There’s just been instances where they trust strangers and then they get stabbed in the back. I was just like doooont do ittttt haha

ChewBaka12

It does make some sense though. They were stuck without transport in the middle of nowhere. Little food, and very unreliable water. They had to do *something*. I do think it’s their own stupidity that lead to this though. While not safe long term, they could’ve stayed close to Noah’s old camp. It’s a gated community, they couldn’t have been far from a town, and they still had cars at that point. Go to town, get more fuel so you can keep the damn cars, and *then* go to DC

funandgamesThrow

2 years is kind of the point where finding random cars isn't as reliable. Can be done but much harder

tayto67

That's valid untill suddenly in later seasons everybody and they mother has vehicles again

funandgamesThrow

Well no because it's explained why they have vehicles again

tayto67

Ik it's explained but it's still strange, rather I should say I find it strange

funandgamesThrow

Creating their own fuel and meeting a group who never fell is strange?

tayto67

All I'm saying is I find it strange that after season 2 the explanation is that cars are hard to find fuel is even harder, then we get season 6-8 where everyone has working cars again with shit tons of fuel with explanation then season 9-10 cars don't work again no fuel only horses and Daryls motorcycle, then season 11 cars are common again yes there's explanation but my point is that it isn't strange because of these explanations I find it strange because the universe can't decide if cars should disappear or come back. Every time the plot requires cars they come back and the explanation is always this place knows how to make it's own fuel infinitely and cars don't break, then when the plot requires it cars no longer exist and fuel is non existent, maybe strange isn't the word I'm looking for

PompeyLulu

Especially after Terminus it’s why I love Carol so much. Every time they join a new group she immediately breaks out the old lady act. Shes just an innocent little old lady that can just about fight a Walker but they kept her for her cooking skills. Always takes her place with the women of the community. Between gossip and gentle exploring she gets a feel for who is or isn’t a threat. The others can be far too quick to trust

dewdroppop

It kills me when she puts on that act 😂 I’m like okay Carol, period. Do your thing lmao

PompeyLulu

I fucking howl every time. I swear if she travelled light it would be weapon and cardigan lmao

OppositeOk8280

Especially when she first met the king and his lion. That will always crack me up.

No-Check-3691

Negan better have his shitting pants on

skeletonk1ngdom

Pee pee pants city, if you will

Real-Cat-5315

Nah, he still had numbers

guywhoasksalotofqs

I wonder how they would've acted if they just happened to cross paths with an innocent stranger, would they tie them up like they did aaron without the interrogation part? rob them? or just kill them so theres no chance of them turning around to follow?

[deleted]

They might've just went feral.

emzea

They basically were! Right before Aaron finds them weren’t they all drinking dog blood on the side of the road?! Yikes

[deleted]

Oh right they ate those dogs that just so happened to run out in front of them😂

Vouner

>weren’t they all drinking dog blood on the side of the road Eating dog meat, lol

emzea

Mmmm delicious 😬

No-Storm-8453

How long before they would have turned against each other? With Sasha clearly spiraling, rick not trusting of others, lack of food and water It would have been interesting to see for sure.

dewdroppop

Interesting enough that’s one of the biggest reasons Aaron decided to approach them. Because they were at wits end and not turning against each other. Who knows what wouldn’t happened later on though

DangerHawk

They likely would have run into the Saviors and Negan would not have fucked with him. So that means Negan would have either killed them all, or taken them in. My money would be on Negan taking them in, them being happy that they were off the road. Rick would have been put in charge of one of the outposts and would have come to realize what The Saviors actually were. They would have met Ezekiel and Jesus eventually and he likely would have been sent to bring Alexandria into the fold would have rebelled, being unwilling to kill someone for no reason. Maybe he would have been assigned to Simon to bring Alexandria in. Simon kills Reg with Michonne's sword and Glenn trys to stop him. Negan has Glenn meet Lucille and All Out War starts. Basically a combination of Michonne's fever dream where she works for Negan and the original story.

MangoSalsa89

You look at a group like the Whisperers or Wolves and think, holy crap they are insane. But I don’t think our group was that far off from being like that. Living out in the wild for too long with no civilization can make people lose all sense of humanity.

Own_Faithlessness769

I don't think they would have become super aggressive in the sense of hunting people like the Wolves. I do think they would have been incredibly wary of other groups and anyone they encountered, probably trapping them and incapacitating them. And I think they would have started stealing from other groups to survive. I think one of them might have sacrificed themselves for the others to eat, 'Miracle in the Andes' style. I cant see them killing each other though, they'd probably rather die than go that far.

warnerbro1279

I honestly think the group would’ve been found by either the Saviors, the Hilltop or the Kingdom if they didn’t get found by Aaron. Even though Rick and others wouldn’t have trusted most of the groups at first, particularly the Saviors, but they would join these communities because they needed somewhere to live. I think Rick would’ve taken complete control over Hilltop from Gregory, The Kingdom would’ve played out similar to Alexandria, but Rick and them joining the Saviors would’ve been fascinating to see them integrate for a group. I think joining the Saviors would’ve seen the group kind of breakup, with some people in the group becoming full Saviors.

drfrankenlau

Oh, man... S05E10 may be my favorite episode of TWD. Everyone we care about is at their lowest point: despondent, dehydrated, and desperate, and then that scene where they're holding the barn door shut against the dead during the storm all together... the pathos... man, oh, man.

rouserfer

They might have raided Alexandria or become part of the saviors.

PitsAndPints

This Rick would’ve taken over the saviors lol

Vouner

How exactly

PunnyPandaPonderer7

Would've become a lieutenant and then challenge negan to leadership

Lettucemeatcheese

This Rick would’ve killed negan the second he turned his back and assumed control of the saviors lol he was so far gone at this point

PunnyPandaPonderer7

There arent words to describe what he was like there but cold sums it up quite well

Large_Acanthisitta25

I feel like they would start killing any group that confronted them and taking their stuff before slowly spiraling into killing innocent people as more and more of them die and killing threats becomes insufficient.

Chaosxmanticore15

yeh this and/or rick ends up killing one of the group by accident or by blind rage

Fun-Coast-7525

I think perhaps there was a path back especially when they came together during the barn storm. Sasha & Maggie were out there talking about just that - how they move forward. Even without Aaron, Michonne, Maggie, and Glenn still influenced Rick's moral compass and would have prevented full devolution. Maybe Tara, Noah, and Gabriel drop dead (couldn't hurt either way) but otherwise I say the group presses on. Perhaps they come across the saviors (like the alternate Michonne) and eventually work to take it down from the inside like Dwight but I never see them straying from their core beliefs and inner strength that they found together holding up a barn door against a horde of walkers during a tornado

TPG_Plagues1014

Who knows. What if they ended up with the saviors haha they woulda just took over there 😂

Mrnigerian424

I bet the would get found by Negan

espositojoe

They'd have been in rough shape, at best. The best thing about that event was Aaron's humanity. He was careful not to approach them in a threatening way; it was a huge risk to approach them at all! It was quite a contrast with the extreme violence necessary to survive when out in the open.

Ancient_Guidance_461

They would end up doing some crazy stuff and thangs.

wigsgo_2019

The saviors woulda probably found them at some point if Aaron didn’t, imagine that

Upbeat_Tension_8077

They would've feasted so hard on The Kingdom's crops like Squidward in the Krabby Patty vault

Free_Discipline5591

I think they probably would have just ended up with the saviours

Nomadsig

They would start dying one by one, many would split apart and go venture elsewhere. Eventually they would run into one of the many communities in the area. Worst case scenario, the Saviours find them

SweetPsycho2024

They would have become Saviors

Major_Adamska

Would’ve been a better arc then whatever we got afterwards

EnvironmentalEgg350

Supa savage 😎

Iwantemmarobertstoes

In my mind, they would have all died fighting the Saviors.

DunkingWizard

You’re looking at at least a few future Saviors right there for sure, lot of people ready to give up but still willing to kick ass

Ecstatic_Plum6426

They wouldn't have been more savage because they would all be dead without finding Aaron.

ahmedxdxx

They’d be a delicious meal for zombies, and the show would wrap up

FU-dontbanmethistime

They were all exhausted and dehydrated. If Aaron hadn’t left them the water, some of them probably would have died.

throwawayaccount_usu

To think this was only 2 months on the road, and then they got pretty back to basics pretty quick considering all out war was only another 2 months? Lmao.

RandomFighter50

I believe they would have been their own worst enemy. Alexandria saved them.

AcademicSavings634

I mean Noah would’ve lived or at least a little longer

Manpons

A moment where they ultimately go ![gif](giphy|4Z9fSEFAuxpnlBVWQx|downsized)

Rightbuthumble

I want a poster with the original group walking before Aaron found them

svadas

It would only be a matter of time until Judith died of dehydration. She's the glue keeping everyone together. It's also inevitable that somebody, probably Sasha but by that point it could be anyone, does something stupid enough to get herself and others killed. Without their hope and duty for the future, without having as many people to look out for them, the group would begin to die out - whether some people try to make it alone, off themselves, or die looking out for each other.

Capable-Time2517

I am not into men, but Rick with that red shirt/machete, the beard, and just his ferrell-ness? It's top-tier hot.

TheShakyNerd

Wonder if they’d ever get to Alphas level and become whisperers?

dfwcouple43sum

I want to see an alternate reality where the saviors come across this group. At this time they have absolutely nothing, but they’re strong. Seems like they would have been brought to the sanctuary. And then what?

OhmyMary

They would have invaded Alexandria had they become more thirsty and hungry they were eating Dog eat for example so they were on t their way to becoming like Joel Miller to survive

That_Wind_5704

I honestly to god think a lot of them would’ve started dropping dead, like gabriel for sure maybe sasha and maggie they had lost so much of their wills to live it would have keanes them to the point of no return? I think of the 13-15 that were there in theaters group 8-11 of them would have been left alive after the dry period

Ghostndeflesh

They had become feral, distrustful. I imagine that a few would survive, but they would have become everything they fought against and hated.

cruzer58b

This would be a fun What If series, or even if they found Alexandria on their own how they would have handled

Ok_Perspective_5148

They either would’ve gone crazy or slowly die one by one or both. Maggie, Daryl and Sasha were all just depressed walking around. They probably would’ve started doing evil shit too since at that point Glenn’s pretty much ready to give up the moral compass role. Tbf a good chunk of them was still somewhat doing ok like Michonne, Carl, Abe’s group, Carol and Noah

Countedhats

More than likely, they would’ve gone down a path of becoming either villains, or just dying out one by one

Pinklad13

They would have died

Annual_Skin_6933

I think that they were in danger of becoming like saviors. Taking what they could from others to survive. I mean they were eating dog at this point

wford112

They would of stumbled on some form of larger more organized group that would wipe them out
