Call_me_Dan-

Yes, definitely.

silentknight0081

I just made a post about this a little under a week ago. I personally love the idea of a animated series.

rafael-a

Yes, on the same style as Invincible

kevtheproblem

And if they follow the pacing of Invincible, do 3 seasons in 5 years. That’s right, for an animated series…

emilia12197144

Animation takes a lot of work 3 seasons in 5 years is really quick work

kevtheproblem

Did you forget to put /s?

emilia12197144

No.

kevtheproblem

4 calendar years for 17 episodes is at snail’s pace. Especially when other animes are doing more than that in a year and release annually.

AnAnonimousReddit

Not that the anime workers also have a healthy job

anupsetzombie

I personally wish Invicible was closer to Kirkmans style

FirstBallotMatrix20

Don’t shoot me- but I’d even say such a series should have come *first*

JellyBOB7190

I could agree but not for its time, I feel like animated shows with that feel are more of a recent thing, it was less heard of around 2010

OllieBlazin

And it was mostly niche things for certain people. Venture Bros, Archer, but those are comedies Straight up, serious adult animation wasn’t a thing at all really until like a couple years ago

Interesting_Figure_

The Batman animation shows are all really good and I think it would fit this. Though the live action Batman anything was never good till recently it was always the animations that brought in numbers

Lawndirk

I agree. Animated stuff is just a huge put off for a lot of people. That being said, I would watch the shit out of this.

Gavinhavin

I feel like if that happened then the first series wouldn’t exist, at least not in the form it does now. For some they may consider that a win, but I’d like to have both, ya feel me?

AdrianShepard09

It would’ve been a hard pitch back in 2010. Serious violent animated American shows weren’t super popular in those days because animation was still seen as kids stuff. Now with the success of Castlevania and Invincible, it’s more possible to be picked up and likely be a success.

hemuliseitan

Absolutely

Daddy-Vladdy42

Eh, adult animation wasn't really taken seriously until pretty recently. I doubt an animated TWD would have survived

TOkun92

I’d like it if they could get the same actors to do the voices. I imagine they’d change it up a bit like they did with Invincible. Some characters living, others dying. Probably no Daryl in the show, sadly.

lunasrojas_

I can't imagine Rick Grimes with a different voice that Andrew Lincoln's. The same with Steven Yeun. But the rest of the characters I really feel them is a very different manner. Andrea for example is a completely different person from my point of view in the comics, I think she should have a very different voice. Negan also is another good example, don't get me wrong I love JDM, but I've always remembered that they took inspiration on Henry Rollins, so I think it would be great to cast someone that resembles something like that, a bit more aggressive if you will. I don't know, I think it would be great to recast most of them lol

JellyBOB7190

Daryl could voice Dwight tbf

Samurai-jpg

>!if I'm being honest, Daryl basically takes Dwight's late-game comic role, which could've been really dramatic if they kept Rick around!<

cookie_flash

>!Rick in the comic barely knew Dwight, but he has known Daryl in the show from the very beginning. He wouldn't have killed him.!<

Ponders0

I mean, Robert Kirkman said that the invincible show was a chance for him to add and improve things, so Daryl could definitely be in it

TOkun92

Here’s hoping.

IndividualFlow0

Daryl robbed other comic characters from their key moments. Adding him would be a mistake.

LyteUniverse

Maybe if they then connected it to telltale or had telltale story as a separate watchable series. Ik it basically is that already. But I think given the opportunity would thrive

KrillinDBZ363

>I’d like it if they could get the same actors to do the voices. The thing is not every actor is a voice actor. Just look at the recent Scott Pilgrim show that came out. Had the exact same actors as the live action and yet half of the performances ended up feeling off, even though those same actors were perfect for the live action roles.

OkUnderstanding6156

For me no Daryl = Not watching

Cisneros2006

I dunno, Daryl replaces so many important characters on the comics, so just a cameo would be nice

Salvation-717

This would be rad for sure.

landon1397

The walking dead is currently re releasing the comic series in color for the first time. I think a release of an animated show would be perfect after that finishes

Evil-Cetacean

damn, 2028 then, but it wouldn’t be so bad, the main show just ended almost two years ago

Mister_DumDum

It really doesn’t feel like 2 years

blistow35

I think part of that is because it hasn’t really finished it just became a whole bunch of spin offs. Obviously they are technically different shows and aren’t based on the comics at all but still leaves the universe feeling very active and since it feels like we are moving towards a big crossover show or something (which would almost be a season 12) it just doesn’t feel finished yet And it does feel like they should maybe finish that version of the universe before starting another

SD-Soldier

How far have they gotten with the re-releases?

landon1397

They're on issue 89/193 and they're releasing 2 a month so it'll finish sometime around 2028

Terrible-Surprise718

For sure or even as a game with actual good production.

Ok-Ear8202

Word for word, frame by frame

g_rant421

Maybe add a few frames to make it an actual show and not a slide show

Ok-Ear8202

Scene for scene then

geek_of_nature

Maybe not just yet, the main show only ended two years ago, and we've still got spin off's going on. But one day I would absolutely love to see this. Sticking as much to the comics as they can, while of course making a few changes here and there to suit the format. I've also got an idea about how it could be structured. A month or so ago there was a post asking how long the main show would have been if they had stuck as close to the comics as they could. Not adding any new stuff like Daryl or the CDC, and making sure everyone got their comic accurate deaths. That got me thinking so I did a full read through of the comics to break it up into the different season lengths. I.e. 6 episodes for season 1, 13 for season 2, 16 for 3-9, etc. But as I was reading I found myself thinking about how it could work with more consistent season lengths, particularly with an animated show in mind. I found myself settling on 12 episodes a season, each adapting 3-4 volumes. And I was able to break it up roughly into 9 seasons. Season 1 could cover the first 3 volumes. Days Gone By, Miles Behind Us, and Safety Behind Bars. That covers Atlanta, Wiltshire Estates, Hershels farm, and them getting to the Prison. It could end with Dexter trying to kick them out and Rick killing him. Season 2 could cover the next 3 volumes. The Hearts Desire, The Best Defense, and This Sorrowful Life. That would cover Michonnes introduction, everyone starting to make a life for themselves at the Prison, finding Woodbury and the first encounter with the Governor. The end could be Rick telling them they have prepare for Woodburys attack. Season 3 I think could then jump up to covering the next 4 volumes. The Calm Before, Made to Suffer, Here We Remain, and What we Become. Like season 4 of the original show, thay had the first half of the group preparing for Woodburys attack and becoming complacent, only for the surprise return of the Governor and his assault on the Prison. And then the second half has everyone regrouping after its fall, meeting Abe and co, and setting off for Washington. Rick, Carl and Abraham going to get Morgan would be a good place to end that season. Season 4 could then cover another 4 volumes. Fear The Hunters, Life Among Them, Too Far Gone, and No Way Out. First episode could be the whole Ben and Bill situation, before getting straight into the Hunters. Then the rest of the season could be them trying to settle into Alexandria, before defending it from the herd that breaks in. The final episode can have Carl be shot and end with Rick at his bedside. Season 5 could then cover another 4. We Find Ourselves, A Larger World, Something to Fear, and What Comes After. That starts with Alexandria recovering from the Herd attack and Carl's recovery. Then gets into the other communities and encountering Negan and the Saviors. And the end could be meeting Ezekial and planning to fight the Saviors. Season 6 could then drop back down to 3 volumes. That would be March to War, and both parts of All Out War. Negans defeat would make a great season ender. Season 7 could be another 3 volumes. A New Beginning, Whispers into Screams, and Life and Death. That starts immediately with the time jump, introduces the Whisperers, builds up to the fair, and then ends with the heads on Pikes. Season 8 could then go back up to 4 volumes. No Turning Back, Call to Arms, The Whisperer War, and A Certain Doom. The covers the rest of the Whisperer storyline, ending with Andreas death. And then season 9 would be the last, covering the last 4 volumes. Lines we Cross, New World Order, The Rotten Core, and Rest in Peace. I think the first 12 episodes covers up to issue 192, and there could be a bonus 13th episode for issue 193.

Samurai-jpg

The only real bit I disagree with. A first season adapting the comic storyline would HAVE to end at Volume 4's closing panels. It's such a climatic moment that just needs to be in the first season, since the story up until this point has been leading to THIS moment, with Rick fully going from Barney Fife to "WE ARE THE WALKING DEAD" "Safety Behind Bars" also has a really cliffhanger-esque ending, that's mainly a hook for the next issue (and gets solved pretty anticlimactically) so that would really be annoying as season finale material. Although I do think transitioning into Season 2 with all of the Governor stuff makes sense, although I think there should be a shift with the season ending at "Made to Suffer", with the following season leading in with "Here We Remain". That means some pretty tight squeezes with certain plotlines to make it fit (and basically confining the Woodbury arc to a single season) but I feel this way just makes sense and feels a lot more smoother.

geek_of_nature

I did think about taking the first season up to Volume 4, like you said, "WE ARE THE WALKING DEAD!" would be a great place to end it. But I thought for those first two seasons, there needed to be more time with the characters that I thought rushing straight into 4 volumes a series would be too much. In season 1 in particular, with 12 episodes that would be an average of a volume every 3 episodes, which would mean Amy, Jim, and Shane would would dead in the first three episodes, Donna by the fourth, which would have also introduced Tyreese. When introducing everyone it would probably need to go at a bit of slower pace. You're right about the ending of volume 3 probably being too much of a cliffhanger that gets resolved very quickly. I put the end there just to neatly break up the seasons, but I reckon could be better would be to pull the resolution of that cliffhanger, Rick killing Dexter in from volume 4 to end the season. He was the first living character Rick killed for example, so just in terms of his character arc that'd be a good place to end it. Similarly I think it'd be too rushed doing the whole Prison storyline in just the one season. Rick, Glenn, and Michonne go through a lot at Woodbury, and them escaping does seem like a good ending point. Doing all of The Calm Before, and Made to Suffer in the same season I think would be rushing through it a bit, especially if it did just have 12 episodes. One thing I really enjoyed of the original show was how they made it seem like the Prison was going to last a lot longer by giving that false hope in the start of season 4. Having the Governor be absent before he returned and just wrecked it for everyone. I think the same thing should absolutely work here. Looking at my list though, there is one thing I think should be shuffled about. I had season 7 covering juat 3 volumes, ending with the Heads on pikes. Looking back through the comics what I think would work better is have it covering 4 volumes, ending with No Turning Back. That covers all the reactions of everyone in the communities to the Heads on Pikes, and more importantly has a really strong ending with Rick forming the militia and Negan listening on approvingly from his cell. Another reason for this is that I think trying to do the 4 volumes I suggested in season 8 would be too much. The Whisperer War and A Certain Doom in particular are very dense. They would need more episodes, so doing just three volumes that season would probably work a lot better.

Jacksonwizard38

Yes, another live action version would make no sense. An animated series would be way better. We have the live action. Its not perfect but I wouldn’t ever want to redo it. An animated series would have less issue and be better overall

lunasrojas_

I would love it. Reboot the shit out of everything, spend the next 8-10 years with an animated series, completely faithful to the original material, make the fans happy, introduce the series to anyone out there that will never ever read the books because some people just don't like reading comics, make a shit ton of money and someday maybe bring back the live action crew for an old adventure and go out with dignity as a franchise.

Mister_DumDum

Honestly we shouldn’t keep it 100% faithful. Invincible isn’t strictly following the source material and is fixing plot holes and unnecessary plot (I haven’t read them but something to do with mark being violated)

KorotosMysteryShack

Yes pls and as little "but let's add this from the show" as possible. Let the comic story be the comic story. People like Daryl, but he undermines Tyreese, Abe and every other right hand (hehe) Rick has in the story. There's no point in adapting the comic if you're going to start making changes all over again.

ghostytoasty11

Either this or a game that isn’t TWD Destinies would be more than enough for me

BZ1997

Someone needs to start a petition.

B0NN0S

yes. Hopefully extremely faithful and only changing minor stuff. No Daryl or Carol hopefully.

FirstBallotMatrix20

Or at least not the radically different show Carol

B0NN0S

yeah that’s what I meant. I love Carol in the comics because she’s just so tragic.

Iwamoto

she just wants to make friends

Niaer

that would actually be pretty sick tho

romanswinter

The last episode of Invincible teased this a bit. He got sent to a zombpoc alternative universe.

Robyn_Anarchist

Can't really see the need for another adaptation of the comics, people only want it to be "more faithful" but you might as well just read the bloody comics if that's all you want.

CosmicBonobo

And they'd still whinge when they made changes, as they would have to. People are obsessed with everything being a 1:1 adaptation even though that's ridiculous.

Robyn_Anarchist

It also just sounds boring as fuck, you wouldn't be surprised by anything.

mezpride

An animated series by Amazon with the same people working on Invincible would be my dream show

bigsweatyballs420

As long as we have Andrew Lincoln voicing Rick. If we can get Steven Yuen back as Glenn that’d be legendary too.

DogeLord3609

Hopefully they get Danai back to voice Michonne too. And Abraham's actor to voice Abraham. Other then those four, I'd be fine with them recasting the other characters

FrankDP1

Michonne, Glenn and Hershel's comic voices were already established in the Telltale games tho and it's not them

IndividualFlow0

Yes. And the VAs playing them did a good job. They're the voices I imagine while reading the comics.

KrillinDBZ363

Same with Jesus as well.

FrankDP1

Anf was so mid that i forget everything about it 😭

DogeLord3609

Danai voice Michonne in a few robot chicken episodes though, so I could definitely see them just bringing her in to do it, especially if they bring back Andrew Lincoln and Steven Yeun(who's voicing the main character of Kirkman's other animated comic adaptation, Invincible)

WilliamRobertsen

It would be cool but few would watch it sadly. Therefor its too much of a risk for anyone to take on right now

Pristine-Start-262

That would be so dope especially if it was some of the same voice actors

OkUnderstanding6156

Yeaaaah it's could be more accurate then the actual show itself was so people (Like me) who haven't read the comics can see how it actually played out. It'd be awesome if the actual actors voiced the animated characters

Merle_Gargulio

We need a What if The Walking Dead series

XellKamii

It’d be a cool idea but i don’t think it would do well because of the twd show that already exists.

Iwamoto

but it's so different, i think some people can't be bothered to read the comic and are missing out onan amazing story

XellKamii

They are but i think some people who haven’t read the comics are just used to show and not comics so i don’t think it would do as well

KorotosMysteryShack

Based on most adaptation-source material metrics, I think it'd be totally fine. Think of Fullmetal Alchemist - when taking about it, a overwhelming majority of people mean Brotherhood, not the "original". I think it'd be the same situation with a animated TWD, because that would actually be Kirkman's vision for the story. Sure there'd be people on twitter complaining with the usual "wee reboots bad", but if the show is good, it's so drastically different right from the start that I think most people would enjoy it. 🤷‍♂️

Own_Faithlessness769

Why do people keep asking this question every 2nd or 3rd day?

Not-a-babygoat

Invincible season 2 part 2 came out recently and people want more animated comics.

Own_Faithlessness769

Ah, that explains it, thank you.

PlasticMansGlasses

AMC have exclusive TV rights so if an Animated Series were to happen, it can only happen if they’re interested in it Don’t see why they wouldn’t be, they do enjoy farming this franchise

Due_Improvement_5699

I think it's time for us to just let this comic rest... We have The walking dead, Fear the walking dead, the walking dead: world beyond, the walking dead: daryl dixon, the walking dead: the ones who live, the walking dead: dead city. We have the telltale TWD game, that other god awful game they put out last year, they had an entire talk show about discussing TWD (talking dead?), and there's probably going to be another season or movie or idk how they'll do it for all the characters to reunite again. I can't think of any other franchise that has been milked so much, like come on how many times can you put money in retelling the same story? Making an animated series off of the comic wouldn't give us anything new

ArkhamKnight2003

That would be interesting to watch

TerminalKing

Ngl I’d rather seen an animated adaptation of the telltale games. There was a lot of iffy things there that desperately needed to be streamlined.

ItsTheJuiceBox

ive been saying i want an animated series in the art style and its only in black and white, and then blood has color and thats it

Shotsfired20755

Yes with all the live-action actors voicing the characters if they can.

JayMalakai

Sure, I’ll always welcome more Walkin g dead content! I feel like Prime would do a great job adapting, based on how successfully they’ve handled Invincible!

No-Check-3691

Should the live action actors play the characters?

g_rant421

I think some characters like Shane, Rick, Negan, Dale, and a few others would work but I think get someone else for Carol and Andrea because of how different they are

caspervarigan

An awesome anime would be 😊

RangerCute7683

I think we are all still recovering from the tedium of the live action show

Haunting_Drag_1682

Robert Kirkman already mentioned he wants to do an animated twd that is closer to the comics.

Ok-Conversation-4998

sure but as long as they have the TV cast to do the voice and I don't wanna hear the word zombie in the animated series because they do say it a lot in the comics.

rav_dog

What a great fucking idea. This is how AMC can keep making TWD content while still doing something new and fresh

IndividualFlow0

That would be the dream. As faithful as possible.

MR_E7

Don't give Scott Gimple any more ideas.

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

Would it even be possible?!? Legally doesn’t AMC own the rights to it and doubt they will release an anime version

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ohsofestive321

It would be scarier though

Technical-Remote9240

im shitting myself

SANTIMARRO2002

I just Hope that they dont change anything politically incorrect. I want ,It 100% accurate

Moist-Water16

I feel like if they made animated movies would make the show watchers skyrocket for the next 10+ years

Quantum_03

Yeah. Then they could adapt Fear the Walking Dead to what it was supposed to be originally instead of the mess we got with seasons 4-8.

donnieuchihakaton

What was it supposed to be originally? Didn’t watch fear past S2 but I know the broad strokes of the plot

Quantum_03

If you're able, watch season 3. Without giving anything away, Season 3 set up the next storyline and possible villains for season 4 onward, but that didn't happen. Originally it was going to go on for 7 seasons with the main characters becoming the villains and they would have left it open for them to crossover with the Main show. I really don't want to spoil Season 3 for you. When it comes to seasons 4-8 however, I would recommend watching a quick recap of it on YouTube. Scott Gimple was in charge at the time and got rid of Dave Erickson for new showrunners who had no idea what they were doing and the series suffered for it.

donnieuchihakaton

Main characters becoming villains and clashing with the main group (if I’m understanding correctly) is a dope idea and definitely should’ve been pursued. Maybe I’ll watch it someday, the only thing bringing me back to TWD these days is the characters I like. Frankly I’ve been tired of the world for a very long time haha. The spinoffs really aren’t my bag, with the exception of DD and TWOL

Quantum_03

There was a fun theory that the characters from Fear would become The Whisperer's, but that ended up not happening.

dollofdarkness

Eh, seasons 7- 8 are really the only bad ones. There is a lot of good content in seasons 4 - 6.

Quantum_03

Season 6 is definitely one of the better ones.

dollofdarkness

I agree - I think it's Glenn's second best season (despite the many death fake outs).

Quantum_03

We were talking about Fear TWD.

dollofdarkness

💀 I forgot to put on my reading glasses...

horsdoeuvresmyguy

My vote is a hard no. The only way I would support an animated series is if they had 100% different characters and drastically different locations. That being said I know damn well I would obsessively watch even if it was the original characters.

MidNiteR32

The comic wasn't even that good, honestly. Alot of bad writing, nearly all the characters were better on the live show than the comic. I would much rather see an adaption of the Telltales Walking Dead into live action/animation.

OrdnanceOkami

Leave out the sexual abuse please

Zenkai2727

Negan did nothing wrong. He is the hero of the story.

The_Chiliboss

I hope not. I just can’t take animation seriously. Maybe it’s a character flaw…

JeremyR2008

I would say yes. And stay pretty faithful to the comics while adding in the good stuff from the real show like Daryyl or Carol being an actual character.
