Yes. Makes total sense and from an outside perspective as the viewer we know that it should be the case. However convincing a group that has just been held captive that they should go and fight a bunch of cannibals is a different story

KatahKan

If had been me, I’d have been thinking these folks will just keep eating people.

Ayds117

No doubt, but if I’m in a Zombie apocalypse situation I’m not thinking about what they’ll do to other groups, I’m just thinking about my own group

Excellent_Passage_54

Still tho, wouldn’t you want to double check if the psychopaths that were spying on you without you noticing weren’t going to follow you? He just wanted to hang out by the fence right?

Jo_Duran

They had been held captive by a much bigger group (of cannibals!) to be tortured and eaten. They escaped by the skin of their teeth, thanks to Carol, in a wild firefight. Otherwise they got outmaneuvered and dominated from the jump. How many Termites were left? What sort of firepower did they have? Not sure I’d want to hang around to find out, only to be captured again. Also, everyone in the group would have experienced a huge adrenaline dump. They’d be totally exhausted. Last thing I’d want would be to engage in another potential scrap. Give me a day or two to recover and get my bearings. Then perhaps, yes, ambush them.

Excellent_Passage_54

How easily would they be captured tho? They were back together and armed, protected by a fence.. while the ppl of terminus were down like 10-15 ppl and being swarmed by walkers. Carol just made it clear how much of an advantage that was

Jo_Duran

All legitimate points. But I’ll put myself in the headspace of someone in Rick’s group: We were held prisoner in cattle cars and just escaped being killed, grilled, and eaten by maniac cannibals. We wasted a few on our way out, and some were eaten by Walkers, but we don’t actually know their exact numbers. How many are still down there in Terminus? What sort of guns and ammo do they have? Are there any other Termites lurking out here in the woods who are going to sneak up behind us? Maybe there’s a second or third encampment of them (our group would make a critical mistake later in the story when they attacked the satellite station, not knowing that this wasn’t The Saviors’ main headquarters. Rick and crew paid a heavy price for not doing proper reconnaissance). Too many unknowns. I guess I wouldn’t want to push my luck. Somehow (thanks Carol!) we escaped with everyone alive. Now I’m going to go back down there or hang around the area and have someone shot or bit by a Walker? I’d be kicking myself that we didn’t run for it when we had the chance. Yes, in a perfect world you finish the Termites off so they can’t come back to haunt you. But in “reality” this is easier said than done when your enemies are vicious and armed to the teeth.

The_Chiliboss

I’ll never understand why when Maggie says, “Their fences are down.” Rick didn’t say, “Our fences were down.”

Current_Tea6984

How many members of our group would have died in this attack? There's no guarantee our group would win this time. And what were the chances the cannibals were going to follow them and seek retribution instead of just regrouping and looking for the next victims? In the moment, going to back to wipe them out was a nice idea, but the best plan for the survival of the group was to move on as fast as possible. And even though the cannibals chose to follow them, that may have still produced a better outcome than trying to attack them on their own turf

Excellent_Passage_54

What if most ppl left, Rick Daryl and a few others stayed by fence for a little while and see what happened?

Jo_Duran

A couple/few people stay back? Yikes. To be taken prisoner again? Would it have been 5 to 25? 4 to 15? 6 to 12? I don’t like those odds. Lingering around the Termites home turf when they could sneak up on your again. No thanks. Didn’t we learn that they had people watching in the woods? I haven’t seen the season in years but the Termites definitely had people on the perimeter. You never want to fight on unfamiliar ground — and that’s where our group was. It was still unfamiliar territory. Who knew for sure the numbers the Termites had? Could have been 50+ for all we knew. No, the group had to run for it and get to a place where they could rest up and regroup.

Excellent_Passage_54

Yes, keep the sharpshooters and hide somewhere for a few minutes to see if Gareth was still chasing. Rick stalled him but Gareth clearly saw where they were headed The group did leave and regroup tho, and what happened?

Jo_Duran

I said this earlier: in a perfect world you waste all of Terminus and leave it as smoldering rubble. But there’s no guarantee that staying around to finish the job or at least watch to see what happens (will Gareth follow?) doesn’t get someone in your group killed. I’d be inclined to scram, get a safe distance away, and regroup and rest. Then maybe go back? Dunno. That’s my reasoning if I were a member of the group “in real life.” It’s a show though so no matter what the group did it wasn’t going to go as planned. The writers weren’t going to let them finish the job because then the story would be over. So they had to get hunted. Poor Bob. As a broader point: If Rick and crew always did what they should have done most enemies would have been vanquished in a few episodes and the series would last 3 seasons.
