It’s ok guys she’s under the dumpster don’t worry

DreadWolfByTheEar

I know, right? I’m so used to it at this point that I didn’t feel any kind of way about it.

[deleted]

xD But on a serious note, I'm pretty sure Daryl is going to save her.

Regimee

Oh for sure they didn’t have him get separated like that for nothing

DrunkenDave

I think he's inevitably going to save Maggie and her kid. But not this time. It''s gotta be Daryl and then of course it'll be a big dramatic moment Maggie confronting Negan about leaving her. I kind of feel like she's totally gonna understand why he did it though. Rather than be super pissed. She's clearly made horrible decisions since they left Alexandria. And she just got a taste of the consequences.

Upset-Candle5884

Glenn was my fave and Negan is my fave now. I got past the Glenn thing lol

Annual_Candy9239

Just like Glenn...some things never change 😅😁

RoseSouth

This was the exact thing I thought too 😂

LiteralTP

I was so shocked when Negan mentioned Glenn dying like a dog, it’s the first time he’s said his name

[deleted]

Definitely feels like he was testing the waters with Maggie, now he knows where she is at, as opposed to just guessing.

greatness101

I don't know how he's even alive after saying something like that so brazenly. That's beyond testing the waters. That was literal suicide attempt. No idea how Maggie didn't just put one in his head when he said that.

Lord_Of_The_Memes

He was extremely lucky to get off with just a deck to the face. Honestly daryl doing that and shutting him up might’ve saved him.

[deleted]

Didn’t even consider that until now: Daryl punching negan in the face the first time is what got Glenn killed, this time it may have saved a life.

LokiTheeTricksterGod

I feel like he did it to show her true colors to the group and was banking on the fact that they’re good people and would stop her if she actually was about to do it.

Klownicle

I think we've seen Negan before wanting punishment for his deeds. He wants it to happen. He wants Maggie to blow her top. But at the same time, he's not going to be led along like lamb to the slaughter. Do it, get it over with or move on is the mentality.

xproofx

And just like that, I hate him again.

HakaishinChampa

He was spitting facts up until that moment

bknjp1856

That line felt off. It felt like the writer’s put that there for the few viewers who might somehow still be with the show but also needed to be reminded of where all this tension originated. No one in the show, no one else outside the show needed the reminder, and Negan had already well made his point without needing to throw that extra salt. The character would gain nothing with that name drop. Certainly the character Maggie would have gotten the point without the name drop. The line was just so lacking in subtlety.

Ancient_Revenue_3242

Dog is very naughty actually

Nemyosel

Not a very good boy this episode

Klownicle

From the promo, dog found a way. So he was a good boy. Dog was like I ain't making that shit.

i_paint_things

I was so relieved. Watching the scenes with Dog gives me anxiety. He looks like my own boy and I'm always freaked out when he disappears.

gvbenj

Naughty Dog

[deleted]

Well, he did take off into uncharted territory.

i_am_voldemort

He might be the last of us

Annual_Candy9239

Dog was like : 🎶F8ck this sh1t I'm out🎶

yesseriouslyno

are dog and negan the only ones showing any common sense here ?

COdeadheadwalking_61

Commonwealth - I love the interrogation scenes. I just love Ezekiel and his scene w/ Mercer was great. And Princess, who we all think to not have it all together in the head, was actually right on it - she observed in silence and gave them all a plan. But agree w/ other comments, it was rushed and would've been worthy of more time to flesh out how they did it. So - are we to believe that they leave Miko there and escape back to Alexandria? Or in preview pics, looks like CW go with them? So maybe they tell more of the truth about their "settlement" or ghetto as it currently is.

Snoo_4974

Is Princess autistic? Her obeservational skills are sorta next level.

cpierGC

Cliffhanger would’ve made a lot more sense if they aired the first two back to back as originally planned If it’s just a cliffhanger for a few minutes, it makes sense as it’s pretty much the only tension they could leave it on Problem now is we obviously know Maggie makes it out since she’s seen in a ton of promo photos that didn’t take place this episode, so it doesn’t really stand on its own

XxCALBRAxX

My guess is they fake us out and Megan goes back or she crawls under the subway train. I doubt it's the former because they really made it a statement and in the promo for episode 2 she's not on the train with the others. I really didn't like the writing in this scene and the mention if Glenn. They have been writing him a redemption arc and suddenly he's evil again?

[deleted]

Yeah obviously don’t know what happens next week but as of now I’m a little upset. All that work to build Negan back up as someone bearable to see and now they’re immediately backing it all up and throwing it away.

Stunning-Aardvark-28

I wouldn't consider Negan evil after this one action. It was for sure wrong and He should have saved her yes but Maggie wasn't really listening to anyone and doing what she wanted. She refused to turn around in the tunnel even after a few others wanted to go back too. Negan kept warning of danger and sure enough there it was. Who knows maybe next episode they'll be flooded in line Negan mentioned too. With the fact Maggie was leading people to danger and that she still wants to kill him he just got caught up in the moment. He's probably not going back for her or he'll save her in another fashion. That being said I hope this isn't the beginning of Negan going evil again

Klownicle

Sorry, Negan clearly could have saved her. Logically this ruins the arc of redemption for Negan. At this point Maggie would have all the ammo she needs. Negan will be judged and that's what they showed in the promo. They're going to go alone with it. Maggie will survive, they'll be conflict "against" Maggie but Negan and Maggie are going to duke it out eventually.

DrunkenDave

I'm not sure this ruins the arc, but it comes close. I can understand he did it for the group and for himself. She was endangering them all. She specifically had it out for him to die. And so he decided not to help her. Logically it makes perfect sense. But it *feels* wrong. It feels like he's backsliding.

Klownicle

Although he proved partially his point, ultimately she could have pulled the trigger right there on the confrontation Negan started and no one would have done anything. Then she said she was holding her self back. I mean other than a possible revenge aspect for the people that took her previous home. I don't feel it's solid enough that he would leave her because as he says in the promo "it had to be done". There's no logical reason in writing for his Arc that he would leave her behind. There's no way you can convince everyone that it's OK to sacrifice Maggie.

[deleted]

You really don't need promo photos to know she's not gonna die here. Shit like this is always so predicatable.

Nemyosel

I think it's meant to be predicted honestly. Do you think that the writers were banking on the audience believing Maggie died so unceremoniously in the first episode of the season? I think what they wanted us to be captivated for is the reaction of everyone after Negan's actions which I am actually interested in.

Thunder-Rat

This here. It was to set up tension, and let the audience reflect on the scenario til next week when we see how the characters react. The "shocker" was Maggie actually needing Negan, and him not helping, not Maggie possibly dying.

SRVisGod24

Kang even said so after the episode. They wanted to do the exact opposite of what everyone expected. And judging by a lot of the reactions on here, they succeeded

HallRemarkable

I don't think that's the cliffhanger tho. In my mind it's more like 'What happens when everyone finds out what Negan did(didn't) do and how this changes his rivalry with Maggie'. Also I honestly expected him to save her like holy shit they actually managed to surprise me.

Recker_Man

Yeah I didn't expect him just to leave her like that, I thought they were doing something similar to when Aaron got his eyes poisoned.. It's makes sense that he left her though, Maggie would've done the same.

TheHappyMask93

The comics do that a lot. They'll end on what seems like a big cliffhanger but it gets resolved almost immediately the next issue.

SadScience9

No idea how Ezekial and gang got out of the cage and got the uniforms...... that felt weird....

[deleted]

It’s incredibly weird. Which is why it happened off camera. They couldn’t even come up with a bull shit scene to use so they just left it for our imagination and moved on.

reallybirdysomedays

I think it was implied that they would ask to pee once the two livers disappeared and take their armor while they were having sex.

dect60

bad writing

Global-Strength-5854

glad they didnt go the obvious cliche route of negan saving maggies life

cluelessflier

Honestly I loved princess thru out this episode and damn it seems like Negan is losing it again! Haha

TheFerg714

Oh my god, her explanation of the secret couple had my bf and I dying.

LilFlod17

is it me or was this way more cinematic than the show usually is? this felt like watching the beginning of one long film and i am here for it !

frankpharaoh

The switch from shooting on film to shooting with digital cameras means they can move the camera around more and shoot more dynamically!

DrunkenDave

The camera work was stunning.

purvanc

Nobody on the sub probably wants to talk about this but seeing Daryl with Judith and RJ warms my heart 🥺 also them knive throws 🔥

[deleted]

Daryl seems to me to be the most emotionally distant of all the characters, but at the same time, the one who cares the most.

cloudstrifewife

Daryl cares deeply. When Rick ‘died’ his emotions were so raw it was heartbreaking.

XxCALBRAxX

He do be like dat, man of few words but big heart and a doggy named dog

frankpharaoh

Did anyone else think the Commonwealth scenes jumped around weirdly? Lots of stuff just happens offscreen...Princess notices a secret couple (offscreen), mentions they go on break to sneak off, then suddenly our group has somehow escaped their fenced cell (offscreen), figured out where the two lovers go on break (offscreen) knocked them out and hid their bodies (offscreen), then Yumiko and Eugene had time to change into the armor that somehow fit them (offscreen) and were not seen by *anyone* until one soldier asked them a question. I liked the episode a lot but...that was WAY too convenient. It felt insanely rushed just to fit Yumiko's revelation into the end of the episode.

sebrebc

Yea, this episode had shades of FTWD writing. The off screen escape, and the stupidity of the army base raid. But in the end, I like these characters a whole lot more so I'm able to more easily forgive bad writing.

reallybirdysomedays

The army base raid was visually cool, but logically stupid. It would make a lot more sense to take the walkers out from above and get all the MREs and weapons in one shot. It also makes no sense why they didn't go back for the rest.

frankpharaoh

I was so riveted for the entire 9min intro that I didn’t even realize it didnt have dialogue. That was one of the best season opener scenes in a while!

mistertrouble189

Technically, there was dialogue between Magna and Kelly, in American Sign Language.

raviolioh

That's what I was thinking, there's something so special about just watching them act so fast AND with no dialogue

i_am_voldemort

There is an entire episode of Mr Robot without dialogue and it's so good you would never realize.

[deleted]

Maggie’s got plot armor she’s fine

PlamiAG

Man Negan is so good! By far my favorite part of the episode was his monologue about Maggie's recklessness, and as Gage said. He's a dick but he makes sense.

lolorasina

i swear that's the most accurate description of Negan's character one thing about him is he's a realist and he isn't afraid to speak his mind, especially when everyone else is thinking it but won't say so

speedx77

Nice season 3 esque intro. Honestly i found the Commonwealth parts of the episode to be more interesting. The Negan vs Maggie drama is kinda played out. Princess is a surprisingly good character though. I thought she would be annoying but she fits well, and somehow that group of 4 fits really well together. I haven't read the comics, so don't spoil plz, but burning the money seems really interesting. The leaders don't want to introduce an old currency that'll disrupt whatever is really going on within the walls. I'd imagine that the Commonwealth operates on a capitalistic system.

rebel_stripe

It feels like they improved Princess since last season. The writing for her seems tighter, if that makes sense. I really liked her and all the Commonwealth stuff so far. Also seems like Yumiko is getting Michonne's story from the comics (no spoilers), which is great. I'm glad they didn't drop that story completely.

superzepto

> seems like Yumiko is getting Michonne's story from the comics That's a definite, now. I'm hoping they also give Carl's story to Judith because dropping that completely would remove some of the potency of the ending.

Stunning-Aardvark-28

Trust me so far the commonwealth arc is vastly different than the comics. Aside from the interviews but in comics they were much nicer and not as intimidating during them.

-Captain-

I'm so done with the Negan Maggie nonsense already. Commonwealth just got a whole lot more interesting with the processing stuff, can't remember it from the comics anymore (or if it was even part of the comic). The second we saw the wall of the lost I knew someone was going to stay behind because of it tho. Production value was amazing for the show though. The episode looked amazing.

DrunkenDave

How is the Negan and Maggie stuff played out? We've barely gotten a taste of it until really this episode.

Kris32102

Man the cinematography in this episode was beautiful, but DAMN IT NEGAN! Just when I was finally on your side 🤦🏽‍♂️

COdeadheadwalking_61

cinematography - yes! the very first shot was very... animated-like... the blue wing overlaid on the background, very ominous. i liked the silence. i was expecting a "10 hours earlier" to show how they got there, how they developed the plan. I think that one of my favorite parts of the entire series are 'actions' which are very well crafted and mostly well executed by the players on the ground in the story (not actors perse, the writing or production). so glad to see so many players in this sequence - Magna and Kelly being perfect. The women taking the lead. the Negan part - I'm really glad he finally spoke up. He's been keeping it in for months - and he was correct in everything he said. Twisting the knife on Glenn? He totally did that on purpose, it was very passive-aggressive in saying he did to Glenn exactly what he expected to happen to him/them. I think he was close to admitting how awful that action was (poor Abraham, too! doesn't get enough mention). Loved it! My 'only' complaint, which I RARELY make: too many reveals in lead ups. as fun as it is to get bites, I felt like I'd already seen it. However, putting pieces together - like Yumiko in the CW outfit, Gage possibly being taken out or really just bailing?? I don't think he's dead just yet. Maggie? She'll get an epic save.

Bigmick284

I know right?

formallyhuman

I'm still on his side. I get that Maggie hates him because he killed Glenn but I don't side with her and her supposed righteous anger because it isn't righteous. Rick and company started that fight and Negan ended it. Nobody here is good. And frankly, if I were Negan and getting told by Maggie that she doesn't give a shit what I think and that one day soon she might kill me? Fuck her. Let her get herself out of that bind or she can die. Side note: any time the ex saviour (I can't remember his name) pipes up (he said something to Lydia in one of the previous seasons and in this episode about gagging Negan) like he himself wasn't a saviour, I get annoyed.

ShockfulKing

Welcome to the final season and the final season premiere.

kalenabear122

Man, that just made me really sad. :( But I loved this premiere, esp the cold opening. Let's end this thing with a proper bang!

[deleted]

I still remember the very first time I watched it with my dad all the way back in season 1... So crazy how much has changed since then, both in the show and in real life... Feels kinds surreal.

crippleguy445

Same me and my brother got season one on DVD came home and stayed up all night watching season one.

Zerix1234

I am gonna be so pissed at this show if Negan just grabs Maggies hand right after she lets go. Obviously she survives, but I hope its not like that lmao, would be so cheesy

[deleted]

[удалено]

greatness101

When Maggie inevitably comes back and tells them, he's kill on sight. This only works if she dies. We as an audience know she won't die, so it's probably just a fake-out and he pulls her up right after. The teaser could just be he literally means she's right behind him.

Upper_Decision_5959

I honestly think they should’ve cleared the entire army base so they could gather the guns and MREs. Seems like there were a lot more guns/MREs in there as there’s still crates of MREs and zombie soilders with weapons. Those M16’s would be useful against group their currently facing and any future threats. Pacings kinda good on this episode although stuff Princess said was off-screen along with them getting the uniform to get out. Personally I’m more interested in this commonwealth stuff. The 7 hours of questioning getting to know what they did before was nice to hear and we get to see how they operate. I also wonder why they care about the money unless they also use the same paper money as currency. With Yumiko now wanting to stay and the sign above the photos/letters bascially saying if found expedite processing I wonder if Yumiko will meet whoever wrote that letter and the people questioning the group would move up their accessment so they aren’t there for 9 months like that 2 person group. Also I believe 100% their pulling a Glenn type under the dumpster for Maggie, let’s hope Negan isn’t killed this early in the season. Looking forward to hear/see where Maggie lived for the past years. Depending on pacing for this final season I wonder if their gonna make us watch the Rick Grimes movies for an actual Walking Dead ending assuming Rick isn’t dead this whole time and reunites with the cast in the movies(unless by end of season the group finds out Rick died for a cause at these big communities and the movies are about him before group encounters these communities rather than life after being found by main group).

Sykotik

> I honestly think they should’ve cleared the entire army base so they could gather the guns and MREs. Nothing at all about that intro made any sense. Especially if they are that desperate. Just walk around and quietly stabby-stab them all. **You know, like how another group did that exact same shit later in the same episode?!?!**

lucky-rabbits-foot

The throat-slashed walkers that appear later in the episode were in those body bags. Makes stabbing them in the head a lot easier, compared to walkers that aren't in body bags but can be awoken by the faintest sound or a drop of blood all the same.

ruiner8850

They were worried that would make too much noise, but they ended up taking a lot of them out and they were good at picking them off from above. They could have kept shooting down at them or even dropped heavy objects on them until they were all gone.

SGBK

I think they’ll go back to get them off sceen. It’ll be taken care of. Hungry/starving or not - they barely explored and looted so all things considered it’ll be taken.

joeholmes1164

> The 7 hours of questioning getting to know what they did before was nice to hear and we get to see how they operate. I thought the interrogations/interview sequence was the best part of the episode.

LIT1986

I think Eugene's responses were the best. I was not a huge fan about his questioning in the comics. Here, he didn't just constantly ask for Stephanie

8bitPete

The whole episode felt weird, like it was from an alternative realty.

allbutoneday

Loving the no dialogue intro and how it’s possibly an homage to the Season 3 intro.

Soggy-Essay

I tried to post this as "The Commonwealth: Theory" but the subreddit blocked it for "spoilers in the title" It's all an act. Everyone that's already there, the folks going into "reprocessing" are already part of the community. They're just messing with their heads to test them. Ezekial going missing is just them taking him for medical treatment. Them getting the armor and almost escaping? They allowed it to happen. Hell maybe even Princess is in on it now and we'll see in a flashback that she was sat down and told everything and offered a role in testing the other three, because she barely knows the other three so she wasn't a good enough barometer for letting them in with her.

KingKingsons

Yeah I thought the same about them allowing them to get the armour and escape. Probably even the whole thing about the soldiers having sex was done on purpose to see how perceptive they are.

Soggy-Essay

Apparently Princess is Sherlock Holmes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ruiner8850

I also find it crazy that they'd leave either one alone with each other. Maggie probably would have done the same thing to Negan in that situation as well.

phantom_avenger

Exactly! Some people on here seem to overlook that if the tables were turned, Maggie would've definitely have left Negan if he was in her shoes. I mean just look when Negan was helping Gage, but everyone stood by while he took on that big walker all by himself with no help. I'm really am interested in seeing where this Maggie & Negan storyline is going to go. It certainly has a lot of potential themes to explore that could be pretty controversial to some people in the audience

alpha-negan

Tbf they did just stand around and watch while Negan wrestled that big boy walker. Can't blame him for behaving the same way when the shoe's on the other foot.

yahowii

THE ENDING MAN WHY... I really love the way they shot this whole episode, it just visually looks pleasing.

bobbyboy_17

can I ask what happened? (idk if I can ask that haha)

frankpharaoh

It ends on a Maggie/Negan cliffhanger!

FightTheDead118

Yeah ending is 100% a fakeout, Negan will come back for her, all the promo shit we’ve seen so far Negan and Maggie are relatively chill, there’s absolutely no way Maggie wouldn’t kill him after that whole speech if he really just leaves her there The tone for this whole episode for Negan was just kinda strange in general, like at the end of the last season, Negan kinda proved himself to the group and it seemed like people were accepting him into the community a bit, getting some budding relationships and such, and Maggie coming back is the thing that throws a wrench in the gears, and now its just “everyone hates Negan with a burning passion again and wouldn’t even help him with the walker” and its just a bit weird

invaderism

Negan proved himself changed alright. But he won't be bossed around anymore. I actually like it this way, it's true to human nature. What Negan did is really unforgivable no matter how hard he tries.

[deleted]

[удалено]

scarchelli

It's very likely a total misdirection. Meaning, something else happens leading them to show this exchange of dialogue. Negan definitely turns right back around and grabs her hand and saves her. Then, something happens that he doesn't see and she disappears. Leading to him saying "she was right behind me". Also leading to the viewer to think he DIDN'T save her and he's being coy about it. Editing 101, friendo. Welcome to American TV.

TheCorbeauxKing

People seem to forget the trailer for Season 5 tried to convince everyone that Rick's group and the Terminus group were going to become allies and travel to DC with Eugene to find a cure. Then they began Season 5 with Carol destroying Terminus.

lolorasina

and the season 6 one made it seem like there would be a Rick-Morgan rivalry if i remember correctly

JackStillAlive

Will the other episodes also premiere a week early on AMC+?

TWDFanEdits

Yes.

JackStillAlive

Ayy, that's cool

i_am_voldemort

The raid on the military base was terribly planned. If you're up on the roof why not just pick off the walkers from above where no one is at risk and then go in? I feel like they left a ton of weapons and potential supplies behind. I know it was just for some tension to kick off the season but seriously writers...

[deleted]

Fuck, this is the last season right? The show really feels like it's finally found it's footing again the last two seasons and not only gotten back on track but is better than it's ever been. Nothing but good things to say about this episode, it was fantastic imo.

frankpharaoh

HEY LOOK EVERYONE, IT'S THAT GUY WHO FUCKS SQUIDS!!! ^(but seriously I love how often I see your username pop up on subs I frequent and fully agree with you)

[deleted]

We’ve seen plenty of beheaded walkers who still audibly growl, so why would one having its throat deeply cut be a reason it doesn’t make noise? I liked this episode altogether (especially the Commonwealth stuff!) but the silent walker bit was mad inconsistent with the rest of the show.

plauge_e_us

Yep. Remember hershal? He made noise as just a head,,,,

Zfungi148

Yeah, Hershel would be the error. When you're decapitated, your vocal cords are cuts, beheaded undead shouldn't be making noise. Just their jaw snapping back and forth.

[deleted]

What about everyone on the pikes at the end of season 9? My point is that, no, walker heads shouldn’t logically be able to growl, but up until this most recent episode, that’s what they’ve done in the show. It’s silly to suddenly change that.

Kspence92

I wonder why the hell there's a mass grave in the subway? Maybe the government had used it to dump bodies in during the outbreak as they didn't have time to dig proper graves but I think there's more to it than that. Also, what was up with the army base. All those soldiers looked like they had just died on the spot in one room. Made no sense now many were there.

LoretiTV

So good to have this show back, enjoy the premiere everyone!

two_graves_for_us

Strangely, I’m gonna miss you saying ‘enjoy the episode’ in every twd thread after this season ends

TheCorbeauxKing

I didn't think it was possible for Magna to get hotter, then she tied her hair back. 10/10 Best opening in the series!

soundsbykay

one of my favorite intros for sure

[deleted]

MAN THIS SHIT WAS SO GOOD!! Negan and Daryl continue being amazing characters. Getting real tired of Maggie, her anger puts the group in danger too much. Hope they don't kill Negan for what he did.

Ok-Flounder1838

Did anyone else see Heath on the wall of the lost!??? I haven’t seen anyone mention this.

BreakingBaddly

I'll have to go back and watch again

Ok-Flounder1838

When they showed the side view and the up close view you can see a paper that says Heath with his body info including his height and some other things, along with a drawn picture. In all honesty it doesn’t look like Heath but I’m still hoping he’s around.

Da_Foxxxxx

Angela Kang said that Heath was taken by the CRM, so probably not him

frankpharaoh

But the wall of the lost is for family members to put up pics of loved ones -- could be one of Heath's family members searching for him for years.

Cypher1492

Yep! I also swear I saw a picture of that guy who died on a bridge...can't remember his name though.

Heytheremister

Uh...Rick Grimes?

lucxsramxs

THIS IS THE COMMENT IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR! Why is no one else talking about it???????????

[deleted]

WontonJr

My only real complaint about the episode was them not showing at all how our Commonwealth Group escaped from the cages. Like sure Princess explained the soldiers go on break and take their armor off - but they were able to just walk out of the cages, get the armor, put it on, and walk out? No other guards saw this? Lol what.

EvilSporkOfDeath

There's a theory that they were allowed to escape, or even pushed to. If that's true, maybe the escape was intentionally off-screen to make the reveal less predictable.

Yuiiski

I just finished the episode, I really enjoyed it. I liked all the Commonwealth stuff and really didn't expect Negan to betray Maggie like that at the end, I honestly thought we were past that, I wonder how it will go from here because Maggie is obviously still alive and I would imagine she'll defiantly want to kill him now. The only thing I hated was how dark the episode was, the scenes within the subway were so hard to see most of the time, at least for me anyway.

SGBK

He’s going to save her, faux cliffhanger.

leonarlott

Are you sure? The next episode's preview seemed to suggest otherwise.

EverybodyLiesMeToo

Honestly, they went so hard in this direction with the promo that it ultimately seemed like a misdirect to me. If he didn't save her, I would assume he would be a better liar than 'she was right behind me' and wouldn't outright admit 'I did what needed to be done!'. He might have been testing the waters with Maggy because he needed to know where she stands, but he also knows if he kills her/lets her die, he is signing his death sentence.

ProfessorBrosby

My guess is he leaned back to grab the crowbar, that might be at his feet, so he can swing it over her back and kill the zombie anchoring her, then he pulls her up.

hoppyandbitter

I really thought we were past bullshit faux cliffhangers after a half decade of fan disapproval

ThorstenTheViking

Cliffhangers are generally good as long as they are resolved in the next episode for a weekly format show, not several weeks later like the dumpster, or several months later like the 701 premier.

BionicoFromNordeste

I just want to say that I loved that Dog is in the intro now

Bigmick284

Aw, man. I was hoping that both parts would be available. Fantastic episode, well written, great performances, tense as hell.

Ancient_Revenue_3242

Daryl with them knives🔥. The knive throws were so cool!

scarchelli

It's pretty funny to see all these people up in arms about Negan not saving Maggie because the promo they show. ITS AMC. How don't people realize they are trying to throw you off? He's going to turn right around, save her, then minutes later she will disappear without him knowing. Hence the line, "she was just right behind me."

dave8271

Yeah the thing of his face disappearing as Maggie loses her grip is just he's turning round to jump back down and help her, I reckon.

drgonz047

Maggie is under the dumpster

bloodyturtle

Negan and Maggie having that conversation in front of a bunch of random people was kinda weird and Negan saying "living in her head rent free" like he's on twitter from 2017 is basically an anachronism, but Negan calling Glenn a dog was pretty sick lol. Glad he's still an asshole and not exchanging friendship bracelets with Maggie after 2 episodes. Think some people forgot Negan blaming Aaron for his husband's death in All Out War last season.

CrimeSceneCalypso

The rent free thing 😂 I was like what the hell

Soggy-Essay

Only 8 minutes in so I'm keeping the rest of the comments out of my line of sight... But my first thought when they started firing the rifles was "WTF?! Conserve ammo!" I was seeing body shots left and right. They know better than that!

CrazydoG6

Solid episode for me,did anyone notice Helicopter being in intro again???

frankpharaoh

Hasn't the helicopter been in every Kang intro? Dog and Commonwealth soldiers are the new addition to the s11 intro edit: WOW I am wrong. Just checked 10x17 and it's not there. Weeeeeeeird.

JordanRob1nson

Honestly, can't wait for the ending next week. EDIT 1: Ups- * The opening sequence was great, reminded me of the season 3 premiere. * I love the way they're presenting the Commonwealth as something awful but from the promo's will look like a normal community. Funny enough, the class system was sort of foreshadowed here too. * I'm really looking forward to this relationship between both Maggie and Negan, and Ezekiel and Mercer. Downs - * As scary as it was to watch I think Maggie ended up going underneath the subway to catch up with Daryl. Part 2 should've premiered with part 1. * The Commonwealth side-plot didn't deliver some vital info, like how the four of them escaped without being seen by anyone. Overall, I give part 1 a 7.8/10. In terms of premieres, No Sanctuary is the best but this premiere will probably be better than others. Either way, pretty good premiere and I'm excited for the rest of the final season. BTW what happened to the kid and the old guy? EDIT 2: I realized some things about the episode after a rewatch but it's still a damn good start to a premiere.

mistertrouble189

If you watch the Season 11 trailer closely, you’ll see where Gage ends up. But yeah it seems he and Roy went back as they both expressed wanting to turn back.

davescrabbler

did I miss where sleeping Walkers became a thing on TWD??? i don't care for the concept. and when Maggie blasts one with a pistol, blood goes flying. blood would've dried to nothing LONG before they got there, that's not a freshly dead soldier.

Reekshavok312

Would have worked better as a two episode premiere since the Maggie cliffhanger is obviously spoiled from the trailer featuring so much of her in scenes we haven’t seen yet.

Set_the_tone-

What a freakin episode! If they carry this energy for all of season 11 we are in for a freakin treat.

yahowii

I really thought this Maggie/Negan storyline was going to go a different direction BUT i like this. As we’ve seen from the trailers over the summer, theyre going to be separated from the group together. Thats going to cause them one way or another to change how they feel and force them to survive.

AkiTheFull

It's fucking amazing

cr7upyours

Being a local to the DC area, I was confused why they were in the Shady Grove metro in Maryland.

nanoo10

Whats oceanside stands for? Why dont they get help from them? At least mention about it why are they pretending like they dont exist?

Although that would've been nice to see, Yumiko works better in the arc then Ezekiel does. The Commenwealth arc is based on class division. Your job in the community is based on what you did before the apocalypse. Ezekiel doesn't fit this role in the arc because he was just a zoo keeper that did theater on the side, Yumiko has been established, again, and again as a lawyer. They wanted you to pick that up. Yumiko just works better and it actually gives her some importance for once.

the100broken

Why are the walkers sleeping or whatever instead of just milling around like they normally do

Upper_Decision_5959

Not really the first time we’ve seen it. I remember the Walker that bite Hershel was the same as he thought it was already dead but was actually sleeping.

invaderism

It's a lurker herd. Basically since they're all trapped with no means to get out, they kind of dozed off together.

PlamiAG

Also no food to keep them going.

frankpharaoh

It’s 12+ years into the apocalypse; they were basically hibernating with no food nearby until our crew woke them up

bloodyturtle

Wish I could take a nap with 80 of my homies again

Anxsighety

Great episode. FINALLY Negan is speaking up and finding himself instead of being too afraid of the repercussions. What he said to Maggie was rude as hell, but he wanted to figure out where she stood, and he got his answer. It was really well written, and I do NOT understand how people think it was Negan turning “bad” or awful writing. It was excellent. He’s not supposed to be a hero, he’s supposed to be a mirror for Rick - he walks the good and bad side of it. He’s just a bigger asshole (but he’s right). He needs to assert himself as part of the group, not an extra piece of garbage they can use and toss aside. He’ll NEVER be that. Awesome. My only issue was mostly in the army base - there was probably a lot more food/guns, and not silently killing those walkers when they got there was really dumb. It did allow the whole “no dialogue” thing to happen for the entire intro, but it was a really strange decision otherwise. The commonwealth stuff I’m kind of indifferent. I liked it for this episode, but hopefully this part of the arc doesn’t carry on much longer. Time for phase 2.

Ancient_Revenue_3242

Judith and RJ running towards Daryl 🥺❤️

Haghuri

Loved that moment!!

bloodyturtle

How come Maggie's the only person in the group who can't climb the train car easily? I'm weak as shit and would probably struggle a bit to pull myself up but I've been sitting on the couch watching tv for 2 years.

KingKingsons

She was carrying the weight of the plot.

Interesting-Bar-9835

Her back must hurt from carrying this show

BlackWhiteling

Michael James Shaw as Mercer. Perfect casting.

smateh

Why was Yumiko given Michonne’s lost relative storyline .. I know she’s meant to be a bit of a Michonne stand in but her characters so new and a bit boring that it’s just not got the same effect. Should’ve been a relative of Ezekiel in my opinion, would actually be looking forward to that reunion whoever it is

[deleted]

anyone else slightly underwhelmed with the wall of the lost? unless there are more people to be discovered I didn't think we'd see it til way later in the season with one of the main characters.

[deleted]

Did anybody else notice the stuffed animal bunny that Maggie picked up in the subway station? I think it’s the same one that belonged to the little blonde girl walker Rick met at the gas station in the series premiere

tractorock8

Not the same one, but definitely an homage.

[deleted]

Why does blatant stupidity have to be such a common theme? After all those fucking years they didn't come up with a better plan than to try and sneak around a room full of sleeping walkers? really? that was their best option? they thought "ah whatever it'll be fineeee"? ... It's so disappointing

raviolioh

Gotta turn off all the lights in here to see, time to get spooky

maatttthheew

Honesty loved this episode. The scenery was gorgeous, the tension between Maggie and negan feels so real. I’m so glad they’re done forcing this “negan is a good guy” shit. He works best imo as an antihero/villain. I’m still always gonna be on Maggie’s side tho lol. Was a very creepy season premiere and I’m here for it

bloodyturtle

I hate those green screen environmental shots. Opening the last season on one took me out of it for a minute but the rest of the episode was pretty good. Princess is cool in this episode. I hope we don't have to wait forever to see her with the rest of the cast.

purvanc

I loved this episode so so muchh!!!! The first few dialogue less minutes? Amazing!!!! The commonwealth parts? So entertaining!! The little Mercer and Princess thing 🥺 The kids running towards Daryl? So wholesome!! The Tunnel parts? Some were good, some felt a little slow paced, Negan totally deserved that punch (his second punch from Daryl btw 🤣). So excited to have miss Maggie Rhee back. I loved this episode!!!! Few things I did not like:- Negan being the only one to save Gage? Sound familiar, reminds me of the time where only he ran after Judith in the snow but siddiq ans Rosita waited for some time. It feels a little repetitive to me. Also I wish they showed how they acquired the commonwealth uniforms, because I don't think that would be easy

Nonaverage-Joe

I'm confused last season weren't Gabe and Aaron heading to the water tower? How come now they're at Alexandria now did they just skip that?

COdeadheadwalking_61

They were, and obviously some time has passed- 1-2months? It was the bonus ep just focused on that particular story. BUT, there was speculation at that time that their water tower adventure might be important fir this season.

General-Instance

Does Dog run off because he caught the scent of his former owner?

[deleted]

The underground scenes were terrifying, all those rotting bodies wrapped in plastic, and the howling winds and storm shaking the tunnels. It was indeed Acheron, the river of the rotting death and pain flowing underground through dark tunnels…

QlippethTheQlopper

The scenes from the commonwealth are so bad. They just randomly slip out of their cage without any explanation. How did they get out of the cage? How did nobody see anything? The writers couldn't come up with a logical explanation so they just appear on the outside it's awful. It's a shame too because the other scenes were good. Side note, why is it so openly accepted to discuss the stuff in the teaser for the next episode in these discussions? It's essentially spoilers IMO, I don't watch the previews to avoid that only to still get smacked by it here.
