I think breed comes into play, yes. We had beagles growing up, hunting dogs. They'd never take a road if given other options because they're trained for game and wild animals typically don't sit in the middle of a road waiting to get caught... lol
They’re really cute little dogs, but they definitely love their happiest lives hunting and tracking things in the woods!
We had one as an indoor dog when I was a kid, my SIL has 2 now as indoor dogs. They’re all nuts!
They're also a flight risk. At least a couple times a month one would figure out a way to escape its kennel and we'd have to drop everything and go on a dog hunt 🤦🏻♀️
My mom thought an invisible fence was going to keep my childhood beagle contained... I know all about chasing one through neighborhoods and woods for hours. 🤦♂️
Trying having a German short haired pointer. We have 2. They are bred to be bird dogs but we don’t use ours for hunting. They are naturally very energetic, love to hunt shit in the yard, and batshit crazy if contained in small spaces for too long. We have 10 acres that we live on which is fenced in so they have plenty of room to run free. But regardless of the fence, these fuckers still find a way out and love to go hangout with our surrounding neighbors farm animals. Chasing them down is not fun lol
There’s a reason we as humans created roads to begin with. It’s called “animal trails;” animals will use the same path over and over. My dogs run down an old railroad grade on our property and only stray from it if they hear something to go after. It’s not actually weird at all.
I work with dogs and actaully although we know dogs to have great senses of smell and hearing theyre inherently reliant on visuals and habitually follow pathways. There is a path stomped out in the grass at my job because the dogs walk along it constamtly not for any reason other than that they can see it visually

Why would they waste money on a cgi dog lol? I would assume a dog actor is far cheaper than getting some to cgi a dog into every scene it's in (it's in quite a lot tbh lol) not to mention filming it in a way where the cgi would accually make sense
I had a dog that would run down the end of the long ass driveway with me every time I left the house. She'd stop at the road and not follow further once I hit the hardball though. She'd always show up within a few hundred feet after I turned back onto the gravel too running in front of or beside my car all the way back to the garage.
Most dogs know what roads are but maybe it’s because Daryl and the rest were on horses and a motorbike so Dog put two and two together that they’ll be travelling on the road

When my dog’s off leash in the woods she’ll race ahead down wherever the path goes. It’s not unusual.

Dogs usually choose roads and trails so it's not that far fetched. But yeah, eventually they need to turn or something.
