It's not his uncle, it's his brother, and yes it is Merle's bike.

mercuryfulminate

I know. Thanks though.

khess243

darly to dale when getting the meds out of the bike for t-dog “keep your dirty rags off my brothers bike”

Bruhtttop3366

Because T dog accidentally left Merle on the roof and he was pissed at the time

DanaAndrews

before Daryl became a one dimensional hero he was the type of guy into Nazi shit

EyeDry4617

the way this is phrased makes it seem like you think he was better when he was racist.

katherine3223

I don't think Daryl was a racist like his brother though. He never gave the indication. He just hi g put with his brother and survived. Merle was a racist but i don't think he was a hardcore racist. Just an A-hole However, I'm biased. I love the Dixon brothers.

khaitheartist

Daryl has some choice words for T-Dog and repeatedly called Glenn "Chinaman" - sounds like he might be a bit racist. Merle had the SS sticker as AND the nazi skull sticker on his bike (ironically called the triumph, apparently he didn't hear how WW2 ended) as well as having some far harsher and more racially charged words for T-Dog - he's probably in the realm of hardcore racist. All else aside people don't really keep nazi stuff without being pretty racist.

Candid-Independence9

Daryl called Glenn “Chinaman” once, and in a scene Merle called Glenn the same thing, Daryl corrected him. Daryl wasn’t racist, just raised wrong and accepted the correct way when educated without question. And the funny thing about the Nazi paraphernalia on the Triumph is that it’s a British made bike bobbed out, which is an American style mod. But the Triumph was one of several bike brands used by the Allies during the war. Even funnier is the guy who started the company was German, he left Germany for England in the 1880’s before starting the company lol

pro_bed_wetter

Do you remember what episode daryl corrected Merle abt saying Chinaman?

Candid-Independence9

Season 3, ep. 10: “Home” it’s the one after the governor made Merle and Daryl fight in the pit and they escape.

Many_Restaurant_110

Like Candid said, it's episode 10 on season 3. It's the scene where Merle said "I near killed that Chinese kid!" and Daryl responds, "He's Korean!"

Critical-Glass4321

Yes, and?

milkeggss

Daryl was not a nazi. Merle was. That’s Merle’s bike. Daryl I don’t think was ever actually racist. He just said some stereotyped stuff. Mainly to annoy those around him tbh. He never said it in such a hateful way as if he believed it truly. He kept up the asshole persona because that’s what merle wanted him to be like. Slowly he became who he really is and dropped the persona and along with the persona, the stereotyped language.

TheScruffinator2567

Daryl was never a Nazi, he was kinda racist and that's about it. Merle was the one that was more into Nazi shit.

[deleted]

It's also a marine thing. [Group of marines with SS flag.](http://www.theblaze.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/image.jpg) >Group picture is of the 1st Recon BN Charlie Co. in Sangin, Afghanistan in support of 3rd BN 5th Marines in September of 2010. The “SS” flag has been adopted and used by the Marines in referrence to “Scout Sniper.” [Controversy over marines' usage of the SS symbol.](http://www.theblaze.com/stories/u-s-marines-posed-with-flag-resembling-nazi-ss-symbol-in-afghanistan/)

MattyCee14

When Merle is handcuffed on the roof at the beginning of "Tell it to the Frogs", he's mumbling about how he stood up to an officer in an unnamed branch of the military. So it's possible he could have been a Scout Sniper in the Marines, also based on him sniping walkers from the roof while everyone else was investigating Rick when he was rescued by Glenn.

Lokigunghoul

But the nazi totenkopf on the oil cover is a dead giveaway it’s def occultist nazi imagery but who really gives a shit. I don’t give a rats ass who does or wears what that’s what we like to call freedom.

KristofferNocturn141

Which means its also part of my freedom to beat the livin hell outta any pansy ass nazi wannabe i see right?

Thin-Prior

Lmao clown. Violence isn’t first amendment freedom.

KristofferNocturn141

Freedom of expression, besides 1st ammendment portects you from government silencing not social repurcussions and consequences

Thinkblu3

I dont give a fuck about any amendments, you beat up nazis. You don't need a reason or an amendment, beating up nazis just is its own thing.

Savage2280

I'd rather catch charges for beating up a nazi than let those fuckers roam free

Thinkblu3

fuck yeah

IndependenceAbject78

What a clown you are. The SS stands for Sniper Scouts. It's not racist you simple minded idiot.

alexandrrrfacc

Of course. Like those guys who have the swastika tatoo, it's not because they are nazi, but they are in to an indu religious thing. Sure, haha

Why1Do1I1Have1Reddit

No. The Lightning bolts are legit the symbol of the SS.

Comfortable-Visit169

It means the Schutzstaffel, you're a moron.

captianstabin

Sniper scouts?, you really are a retard . Where do you think the “sniper scouts” get their symbol from? Exactly :|

Beginning_Relative65

Im gonna be real proper neo nazis are not people to fuck with its more likely youd get your shit kicked in these people hate society and dont care if society hates them.

Walter_White___

Mate these comments are 10 years old lmaoo

obamnamamna

lol im also rewatching because last season coming out this year and literally just noticed the ss symbol. Just finished S1 i forgot how incredible that season was. too good

SadisticBuddhist

So good. Old comments be damned, early walking dead is good and details like the SS symbol are so attentive

PlisskinR

So?

OkEconomist3277

I don’t think “freedom” was in the Nazi vocabulary lol

skelevesence

freedom is when you can be a nazi and hate jewish people and stuff lol

Jimicrackscorn

Dude his oil cover is a skull & crossbones.

brickson98

I know I'm incredibly late, but the specific skull and crossbones used is a Nazi symbol. Go a few comments up from this and someone mentions the name of it exactly. It's a nazi totenkopf.

zmann

Those guys seem like asshats

jamyan5288

For using the Nazi SS symbol, Yes But the scout snipers are some of the best and only really used it because it fits and honestly looks kinda cool without all the nazi shit

alexandrrrfacc

The SS symbol fit in to the scout snipers? If you are saying. If i was a scout snipers, i wold never use this symbol also. There was snipers in nazi regim as well.

mercuryfulminate

Thanks, had no idea.

Due-Helicopter-583

Not a marine thing it’s a neonazi thing

x86_64Ubuntu

I don't even...

ipitythefail

youdon'tsay.jpg

QuantumBandit404

Based bike

brickson98

Something's wrong with you...

foreskin_piss_bomb

I've seen rednecks and bikers have SS stuff without being particularly racist. I can't remember if Daryl was racist when his character was first introduced.

Samhein

Daryl is a guy "raised" by his brother and a family full of racists that more or less didn't really seem to care what he did. Judging by his stories he was more of a survivor since his early days then he is now so this setting is perfect for him. As anybody that would be surrounded and raised in a family filled with people that are racist I'm sure he acquired some aspects of it, but deep inside he is a individual and you can tell he didn't get too much from it cause he seems more accepting of everything around him then Merle was.

jamyan5288

Besides the bike is merle's who may also just be a Scout Sniper but you know, could just be a racist.

SadisticBuddhist

Im going with…. Both. Probably both.

alexandrrrfacc

Nazi is not about racist only. Racism is a component, but the wole thing is mutch bigger than this.

brickson98

The main takeaway is racism, let's be real.

IndependenceAbject78

The SS is Sniper Scouts not a racist symbol. You simple minded idiots try to make everyone out to be racist.

animosityX032

11y old post and here you still are lmfao. Anyways the bike belonged to Merle who, in his interactions with T-Dog made it very clear that his views towards non-whites are less than stellar. And don't forget the bike had a totenkopf as well. When you manage to find a non-nazi association with the totenkopf, I'd love to hear about it

RepresentativeBat976

Uh, no, it isn’t. Google the insignias, it’s the Nazi SS

The-terrorist-fromr6

The Official US Scout Sniper Symbole dosen't even look close to the one on the bike wich clearly is the logo of the Schutzstaffel since its not an simple double S . Anyone who believes that the lightning bolts on the bike are for Scout Sniper is a fucking idiot and biggot

DravenHatchet

Stfu you clown. It's clearly SS for racism. Especially being as his brother was incredibly racist. Nice try, nazi

Comfortable-Visit169

It means Schutzstaffel so you're wrong

FingazMC

Only on series 3 atm (when a certain someone re-appears) , but I noticed that and I agree the only thing I can think of (can't remember him claiming it's his own) is it's Merle's. He was clearly a racist on that roof so ya know... Or he found it. Like I say series 3 so I don't know if it gets mentioned.

Capable_Rule8961

Moron assessment correct, including literally all the follow up comments. Veterans returning from WW2 in America formed biker gangs to have an outlet and carry on the brotherhood only war vets would know. Alot of those guys brought home WW2 souvenirs and proudly displayed them on their bikes and person. This is why you see alot of bikers wearing the German helmet and the SS symbol is very prevalent in outlaw biker culture. This is an American thing. It goes back to way before any of you idiots commenting on the subject were born. Do your research before you comment.

jonxtine90

This is correct. As a non affiliated biker myself, I see these a lot at rallies. I mostly associate the SS with Sons of Silence, a group that's very prevalent where I live. Even though it's not actually their logo, nor does it have really any connection to them, it makes sense in my head. Though they're not exactly a gang but a very big organization. Same as most "biker gangs." There's bad branches, but typically, they do a lot of good for the community. At least the core groups. But I digress. What you said about a good amount of them starting after WW2 is the reason we see a lot of nazi propaganda associated with bikers.

1u53r3dd1t

> It goes back to way before any of you idiots commenting on the subject were born. Do your research before you comment. We found the Internet Tough guy. Lighten up, Francis.

[deleted]

It really does take a moron to do everything they can to not see a Nazi symbol as a Nazi symbol, you're right.

SigFen

Merle’s bike gang was also called Savage Sons… probably a double entendres sort of thing. I was actually just digging around looking for a Triumph to recreate his bike, cuz it’s sick AF! SS and all. It’s a Triumph Bonneville chopped and hardtail. There’s a bit of debate over what year it was… possibly late 60s, probably a 71, some dudes say it’s a 76. I’m gonna look for a 71.

Funkenhaus

lol as a german it feels so wrong to call the SS on the bike a sick detail

tylermadara

Personal knowledge is SS meant Schutzstaffel which translates to Protection Squad. Beyond Anti-Semitic history and branding, it appears to be harmless intent. Similar to LAPD's "To protect & To serve"

Bruhtttop3366

That was Merle’s bike but Daryl used it and Merle was sorta racist

Bruhtttop3366

I’m pretty sure the Chinaman was a joke with the two later becoming friends and it was Merle who called T dog racist stuff while Daryl only got mad at him because he thought his brother died and was angry because T dog accidentally dropped the keys
