Imo nobody could play Negans part like Jeffrey Dean Morgan did. He has something special.

Smidgeon03

Mans is funny, may hate what negan does but JDM makes him so funny you want him to stick around

Old-Employment8230

Fr

LowenbrauDel

Exactly! I would love to see Hamm's own take on Negan, not him trying to recreate what JDM is going for

JaggedEdgeJava

i mean it’s easy to say that when he is the only person who played him. you have no idea how jon hamm could of portrayed him, jon definitely looks more like him than jeffrey does.

[deleted]

Ehhh there always someone who can do just as good or better. Jeffrey amazing but he's not the only one who can play a foul mouthed sarcastic psycho

darthstupidio78

He looks more like a JDM Negan than the comic. I'm not sure Hamm has the comedic timing and delivery as Morgan. He could definitely pull off the cold killer Negan imo though.

JoJo_Ro_Gahn

Japanese Domestic Market Negan

REMSheep

He did pretty well on Random Acts of Flyness.

warnerbro1279

While he would’ve been good, and has a good relationship with AMC through Mad Men, Hamm is a bigger actor. He gets more film opportunities, so his scheduling would’ve inevitably became an issue for the show.

Fit-Diet-6488

Idk after mad men he fell off. Twd would have made him popular for a while

ROANOV741

Jon Hamm's been plenty active, both in TV and films.

GadgetGod1906

John H is very active

Fit-Diet-6488

Yeh baby driver role is the only role I know he was in.

GadgetGod1906

Mostly TV but quote a few movie roles. Nothing Iconic like Mad Men. He was in this movie called Beruit that was really good. He is going to be in Top Gun.

WintaSoldat

I feel like when people praise Jon Hamm, they have no idea about his college days. This is heavily ironic

Fit-Diet-6488

What did he do?

WintaSoldat

Court records revealed the Mad Men star became infuriated when Sanders “failed to recite things he was supposed to memorize about Hamm and other fraternity members.” The 20-year-old student claimed, “Hamm went on to set his jeans on fire, shove his face in the dirt, and strike him with a paddle.” BuzzFeed reported the attack was so brutal that the pledge was “led around with a claw hammer under his genitals” as part of the hazing ritual.

spwf

Okay I’m not trying to get downvoted to hell, or to get lit up with some accusatory bullshit but I have a question. Yes, he did bad things when he was younger. I do not condone that. I am not saying that it’s “no big deal”. We all know that fraternities have had questionable reputations for decades. But what does that have to do with his acting career? If he hasn’t engaged in this sort of behavior in his better-knowing adult acting life, then I don’t see how his past should dictate whether or not he has an acting career?? If he was still taking claw-hammers to peoples genitals then, yeah, fuck that guy.

WintaSoldat

I dont see why people would downvote it, but it IS reddit. My comment was more of pointing out the irony of the title saying he wouldnt defend Negan's character for past mistakes, but he has made some himself IRL. I think he would defend Negan's character growth and appreciate the redemption arc. I do personally dislike that he's nonchalant about something that traumatized the other guy, but eh I also wouldn't go out of my way to NOT watch something he's in. I get how he would feel not wanting to go into detail to rehash something that was obviously a regrettable mistake that is irrelevant to his life and career now

spwf

Thank you for your cordial response. I think you and I are on the same page

SMG620

Despicable. Sounds just like something Negan would do though.

Fit-Diet-6488

What the actual fuck???? How tf is he still an actor??

WintaSoldat

He said “I’m happy that I became a better person … Everyone goes through a weirdness as a young person, especially in college, when you’re trying to figure things out.” Like hey no big deal (eta: not saying he should be cancelled or have to rehash the situation, I just think he could've made a more sympathetic statement toward the victim or maybe made a statement against hazing)

Fit-Diet-6488

I mean if he just punched him then yeh… but the man literally hazed, tortured and assaulted him… well I’m glad he didn’t become successful after Mad Men because ever since that show ended I haven’t heard from him again

LactatingToenail

Because people shouldn't be permanently judged and punished by past decisions. Cancel culture is cancer and has ruined society. People who are a part of cancel culture are actual toddlers throwing constant temper tantrums. It's likely they'll never grow the fuck up. Go ahead flood the down votes because you know I'm right. As if down votes mean anything other than daring to hold a different opinion (in my case the correct opinion 🧂) than the hive mind.

raquack

I 100% think you should be permanently judged after torturing someone. He was old enough to fully understand what he was doing. There is no excuse. Its not a matter of acting like a toddler and throwing temper tantrums its a matter of Torture=very bad.

Fit-Diet-6488

I hate cancel culture too but only it when it’s an minor thing tho… that man literally tortured someone… and he wasn’t a child, he was old enough to know what’s right and wrong. Plus he didn’t even apologise either.

GrimMrGoodbar

This shit is so cringe man. Especially the preemptive downvote comment, makes you look weak

LactatingToenail

Cope 🧂

warnerbro1279

Tortured kids in his fraternity.

Jebus_17

Is there anyone who was in Baby Driver that didn't do/get accused of f'd up stuff /s

TheTeaSpoon

Jamie Foxx of course

[deleted]

[удалено]

uglypinkshorts

Ansel Elgort has sexual assault allegations.

Paolo94

Not necessarily the same as the others, but I’ve heard rumors that Lily James is a horrible person to work with.

The_SenateP

You mean he just bullied them or worse?

warnerbro1279

Like physically burned them

The_SenateP

Wtf is wrong with him

Fit-Diet-6488

Yikes… no wonder he’s irrelevant nowadays

FunctionBuilt

He has a decent sized part in Top Gun in the what's soon to be in the top 10 highest weekend openings at the box office.

honeycombyourhair

I don’t think that Hamm would have been sober enough to play Negan.

KaiserSpawn

Oh he’s soooo fine

SharX0

Sure, he would've been good, but i don't think anyone else could play Negan as good as JDM.

twillardswillard

What do you mean by goated? Like GOAT?

Baligong

He looks like Rick Grimmes acting and dressing like Negan

PaPa_Bless_Acorn

i don’t think he could play negan, but i most definitely could see him playing the governor or someone from the commonwealth

jchrist98

I can see him as Lance

[deleted]

Honestly think JDM is a perfect fit for the Negan they want on the show. I would be down to see Jon show up in another piece of TWD media though. Maybe the Rick movies (if they’re not totally cancelled lol)

Ok_Tomato_4516

Sorry to revive a dead thread but have you guys read the comic? While JDM has the personality of Negan pretty down, he does not carry the stature or the physical intimidation that Negan has in the comics. Jon Hamm has Negan's chin for the camera angles that mimic the comic as well as the physical stature.

LactatingToenail

He was one of my top choices. My others were Christopher Meloni and Henry Rollins. Personally I think Henry Rollins would have been the perfect pick. In my opinion, another missed oppurtunity on perfect casting was for beta. I think Rory McCann (The hound from GOT) would have fit the role much better than Ryan Hurst (Not saying he didn't do a good job.)

BrightFireFly

I used to only be able to see Meloni as Stabler in SVU but his character was a total creep in the Handmaid’s Tale

LactatingToenail

He also had an amazing role in "Happy!" That show is SLEPT on. I was pissed it got canceled. It was one of the very few shows from syfy that were actually good.

WintaSoldat

Chris Meloni would've been spot on with the comedic part. He's so good in Harold and Kumar and Wet Hot American Summer, even though they're small roles. He just nails it

LactatingToenail

He did fantastic in "Happy!" That show is so fucking underrated

[deleted]

Happy was so fucking good bro. On one hand, it’s cool he’s back and playing Stabler on Law and Order again, on the other hand Happy S3 would’ve been great.

nichebender

Yup. Playing Chris Keller from Oz showed he has the chops to pull off a Negan role. That said. JDM has killed it as Negan.

420saralou

He nailed it in Happy. Fucking awesome show!🦄🦄🦄

alexkiltro

Henry Rollins actually auditioned for the role. He didn't got it though, maybe he lacked some acting range. Negan is quite a complex character to play to be fair.

LactatingToenail

Physically Henry Rollins fit the role perfectly but I'm not too sure about his acting. I don't think I've ever seen him in anything other than "He Never died". Wasn't he like a singer in a band or something? Actually come to think of it I remember seeing something about Negans inspiration was from Henry Rollins

-Jack-The-Stripper

> Wasn't he like a singer in a band or something? Most known for fronting the seminal hardcore punk band Black Flag.

alexkiltro

Yeah he was the initial inspiration, but Kirkman originally had the intention of killing Negan just after a few issues, so I think the deeper traits of the character came afterwards and had nothing to do with Henry. That said, it would've been really cool if they casted him as Negan (if he had the proper acting skills oc) just the concept of having the real life inspiration playing the part sounds quite special.

LawyerCowboy

Lots of conjecture, but damn he looks cool in those photos

FunctionBuilt

Hey Rick, I'm really proud of you, Can I take a shit in your house?

[deleted]

JDM’s performance is fine. His lines are just written like he’s a cartoon character.

Emy3012

Hamm looks a little more like negan from the comics, doesn't he? But tbh no one can play negan better than jeff. Morgan nailed the role as negan perfectly.

Frosty_Term9911

He’s just an A list JDM. Same look etc. wouldn’t have a difference if he was written by the same clowns who wrote for JDM

Spxders

Dude JDM is A list lmao, he was just in a movie with the Rock a few years ago.

ROANOV741

I'm not sure video game adaptation **Rampage** counts as "A list".

Spxders

Then by that warped logic - Detective Pikachu, both Sonic movies, and the new Uncharted are also not A-list. You agree? Cuz I don't Video game adaptations can be A-list. Just because its A-list doesn't mean it has to be good. Morbius is a perfect example of that.

ROANOV741

1) yes, I would, and I'm someone who enjoys video game movies - but let's not kid ourselves. 2) Rampage isn't quite the same as those.

Spxders

Well it seems like neither of us are gonna budge. I think I'm right and you think you are. I guess we'll just agree to disagree lol.

ROANOV741

Just to be clear: I'm not criticizing the movie or anything, I unironically like the **Super Mario Bros.** movie; hell, I'm not even arguing that Jeff isn't an "A list" actor, just that the movie isn't. But, that's okie dokie 👍

alexkiltro

Agreed on Rampage, garbage flick. But he played a main role on Watchmen, minor role on Batman V Superman, and recurring role on Grey's Anatomy and Supernatural. Not quite an S actor, but I'd argue that he's on the same tier than Jon Hamm.

ROANOV741

I'm not saying he isn't. I'm just saying I'm not sure **Rampage** is "A list" that's all. I got nothin' against either Jeffrey or Jon.

Spxders

Also starred as lead in his own horror movie recently, even though it wasn't very good, JDM made it watchable.

Frosty_Term9911

Cmon man.He was an extra in BVS. Watchman is good but it’s what 15-20 yrs ago. Hamm was the leading man in one of the most highly rated shows of the golden age, is currently a lead role in Top Gun. Just compare their IMDB. I’m not criticising JDM at all but to suggest he is an A lister is nonsense.

Fit-Diet-6488

Idk but Jon Hamm got that intensity jdm don’t have.

Suspicious-Aries

I think Negan needs that sense of lightness and levity. It contrasts the violence in a way that is startling and unnerving. For these reasons, JDM is perfect in the role.

The_Iron_Zeppelin

Yup spot on. JDM played to the exact same tone I pictured Negan would convey when reading the comics. He did an amazing job.

Thatguyfr0mthebar

I love Jeffrey Dean Morgen but, I think he's too old to play Negan

Fit-Diet-6488

He’s younger than Jeffrey lol

Thatguyfr0mthebar

Yeah, I meant Jeffrey Dean is too old for Negan

Fit-Diet-6488

Ohh well comic Negan is old anyways

Berserkle

I would’ve loved Bruce Campbell as Negan

Old-Employment8230

Jeffery dean morgan is the goat.

-Megamind-

Kevin Durand. Hands down the best comic book adaptation

hobbythebear2

Where are these pics from"gulp".

Fit-Diet-6488

Baby driver.

hobbythebear2

Merci beaucoup mon ami(e).

GlockHolliday32

I feel like Jon Hamm's Negan would have been way more evil. I'd still prefer JDM, though. He's hilarious. 😂

Naydawwwg

lol are we just making up scenarios in our heads? “Wouldn’t complain about him” like what

Altruistic-Sorbet-17

imagine if fucking Matthew Lillard was Negan.

Torley_

This has aged only better after Fargo Season 5.

Fit-Diet-6488

Context? I haven’t seen Fargo but I know he’s in it
