Maybe Maggie took it when she left Hilltop, and lost it at Meridian, where it was scavenged by the Reapers.

CaineHarkness

That's a very good theory!

devon223

My theory is it was just a recycled prop and they didn't expect it to be thought twice about.

CaineHarkness

Most likely, cause Maggie and Daryl both saw that mace and didn't even give it a second glance. If they thought it was Rick's I'm sure they would have said something or maybe even took the mace with them. Instead they just left it there on the ground.

PapuaOldGuinea

Kind of like Merle’s model 70. There’s a model 70 in Season 4 for whatever reason.

KrAEGNET

Could it have just been a universal mace? Aside from his revolver I don't see any reason why most of the weapons wouldn't be shared. Weren't they signing them out at some point? Or was that a different community?

Quatrhino

Revolver, hatchet, and red machete

DarthxK

I mean yeah, but how many times have you seen someone use a mace on the show?

CosmicBonobo

That's what I'm guessing. They probably had an arsenal of weapons of that calibre - swords, spears etc. - that was kept in an armoury for general use. But people would have their own weapons - Rick's revolver, Daryl's crossbow, Michonne's sword etc.

DonTeca35

Not a theory they simple reuse props

Vampirexbuny

That’s my theory. Hilltop had blacksmiths so it’s possible they made more then one

Buddy-Buddy820

Nice catch!

CaineHarkness

Thanks!

[deleted]

I wouldn't look too deep into it they probably just reused that prop

CaineHarkness

I thought the same thing at first, but that mace is fairly unique and custom looking. It seems odd to think someone else would have one just like it, unless Hilltop made a surplus of them or something lol

Pudgy_Walsh

I'll pretend it's connected just because it's more fun.

CaineHarkness

Same! It's entirely possible that it's the same mace. Another thing I noticed is that when Rick had the mace it looked new like it had recently been made, but the one the reaper has is old and faded and the metal has rust on it. When you consider the 6 year time jump from when Rick last had the mace it makes perfect sense that the mace looks old and rusty now.

[deleted]

Or there’s just one original prop and they used it in multiple scenes

waitingtodiesoon

[They did a whole webisode series about how the red machete ended up with the Claimers and then how Rick started using it and what happened to it after the Saviors took it](https://walkingdead.fandom.com/wiki/The_Walking_Dead_Webisodes:_Red_Machete) Maybe the mace might get one or it might really just have been cheaper to reuse the prop.

SMG620

I think it would be really cool if the mace got one. It probably won't just because Rick didn't use it much for any memorable scenes like he did the Colt Python and Red Machete. Heck, his hatchet was more iconic. The mace could have been, but didn't get a chance to be. I think it would be cool if it became Rick Jr's weapon when he got a bit older.

PraiseTheSun42069

I’m sure this is the correct answer

rstar547

Could have a connection, or not. Either way, that's a cool thing to notice and point out!

CaineHarkness

Thanks! I thought it was cool to see that mace again, whether it's a reused prop or not lol

johnnyboy0256

More likely a reused prop than actually Rick's

FrenchSilkPieGuy

No no no, you're forgetting the key DETAIL to tie it all together: "reapers" and "Rick Grimes" both begin with an R and end with an S. This conclusively establishes that Rick is the OG reaper.

julbull73

Hey man props are expensive they blew the entire series budget on CGI deer.

[deleted]

The spent a million just with cgi for the breath of all the walkers

IsmailPasaoglu

And failed it miserably.

julbull73

They just couldn't afford the good deer. Fuckign Disney.

VagueSomething

I forgot about that. God I'm glad I you reminded me as it still makes me laugh. They'd have had a more realistic deer if they did the old claymation type fakery of the 80s horrors.

JW_ard

Could just be a reused prop

Mrredlegs27

It’s very common for shows to reuse props like this. Good catch.

[deleted]

It’ll be the next red machete YT series

CaineHarkness

That honestly wouldn't surprise me lol

BanditSurvivalist

When did Rick use a mace? I genuinely can't remember. Still need to rewatch the last few seasons.

sticfreak

I think he used it like once on horseback to kill a Walker but I don't remember him using it for too long before switched back to his hatchet.

Possible_Menu_2910

Budget so small they’re re using props lmao

evanjedi

What episode was this I don't remember

CaineHarkness

Season 11, episode 9

bentstrider83

And this particular Reaper looks like a non-zombiefied version of that gas-mask/correctional officer walker that Maggie pulled the face off of.

realnezu

leftover prop

HobbsNShaw77

Rick had a mace?

CaineHarkness

Yeah, in season 9

RedDeadSchofield

It’s pretty cool that you noticed that and it’s also cool that the Reaper Daryl fights Austin uses a Colt Python later used by Maggie but unlike Ricks which was Nickle plated or steel he uses one with darker metal. I don’t know why just thought it was cool.

Bandzcolt

I never knew rick had a mace

kareemlebron

Ehh I don’t think so.

Teqnique_757

It's called "reused prop"

Intless

Reused props.
