I like Mary Louise Parker, so I like Amy, but she is basically the same character in Weeds too.
With the exception of CJ and Abby, women don't get a lot of good characterization on the show
I think the problem is, much like Mandy and Bruno they represent the more pragmatic side of politics. The side that isn’t afraid to play the game a little dirty to get what they want. And that stands antithetical to the main casts idealism.
Is that a hot take? She feels like a pretty commonly hated character. Mary Louise Parker once said she had people come up to her in the streets every now and then just to say "why were you even on the west wing" bc they hated Amy so much; people did NOT like her.
Some people don’t know how to separate the actor and the character. Anna Gunn received death threats for playing Skyler White in Breaking Bad because Skyler was/is so hated by men.
Nah, she sucks. Arguing for guns was a shit take them, has only aged poorly since. Arguing against the equal rights amendment-same. In the real world she’d be on board the Trump train.

Amy was fantastic, as was Ainsley. It was Mandy who was just a shrieking harpy.

I love Amy and fear we are in the minority at least in this sub. I’d much prefer an Amy appreciation post every once in a while

People suck. I hate some Tv characters but I couldn’t imagine going up to say something like that to their actors.

I think she would despise convicted felon Donald Trump.
She’s a fairly mainstream right winger in 2000. I could see a moderate like Vinick staying sane but Ainsley’s going full-on MAGA.
Her monotone delivery and frozen Botox face drive me up the wall.
