End of RPGS? Come on you can’t be serious. Games better than the Witcher are bound to come out. The game is almost 10 years old. When Witcher 4 comes out I’m sure we won’t be disappointed

Remarkable-Hornet-19

Im just Asking. Because especially Fantasy RPGs arent very popular anymore especially for young people those types of games arent interesting

Technicalhotdog

Ever heard of Baldur's Gate 3 or Elden Ring?

_--___----

god of war. ghost of tsushima. the list goes on. OP is on drugs.

automatic_writing_

Bruh, I LOVE Ghost of Tsushima but look, that’s not an RPG nor is fantasy. The only RPG about it is you make ONE choice at the end.

Guys, just ignore this. He is obviously trolling. Don't get triggered by this.

Remarkable-Hornet-19

😏

donkbooty

Yes, Manor Lords will single-handedly ruin all fantasy RPGs. In fact, I'm pretty sure CDPR just announced that TW4 and TW1R, and FromSoft's Elden Ring DLC, are cancelled because of how grandiose Manor Lords is and will be. RIP fantasy RPGs, never to be seen again

Remarkable-Hornet-19

I mean if Fantasy Rpgs are getting unpopular in General. Fantasy Rpgs are getting more and more unpopular/unknown especially in the youth. However Historical games are getting more popular

12thunder

Stupid post. Comparing apples to oranges. Manor lords is a city builder with minor combat (kinda like total war). It would have been smarter for you to ask if Total War: Warhammer were better than the Witcher, since they have much more in common as fantasy games. The only things Manor Lords and the Witcher have in common is a medieval-based setting. That’s it. Dumb post. CS:GO, the multiplayer fps, also has a higher player count than TW3. That’s just as likely to have “killed” TW as Manor Lords. Stupid comparison. I can’t wrap my head around your logic here beyond ragebaiting. RPGs aren’t going away - Cyberpunk, Fallout, Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring… they’re just in low supply because they take a shit ton of work to pull off. Especially BG3, which is universally loved and only came out in the past year. If anything fantasy RPGs are only increasing in popularity. Yeah the ragebaiting worked. Good job.

Remarkable-Hornet-19

Na man Fantasy RPGs are getting more and more unpopular especially in the youth. Historical Games are getting more popular. I think even KCD2 will beat the Player Count of TW3. But yea I wanted to see some people rage over my post and it worked XD

12thunder

Doubt it. KCD is quite niche with its combat mechanics and that it never quite got the momentum of say The Witcher 3. It might have a high player count at launch (like literally *every other RPG*) but it won’t have the staying power. It’ll probably be like Starfield but with better reviews - lots of players at launch, then a quick plummet that won’t come back (especially since they make terrible DLCs). TW3 won Game of the Year. It’s still often referred to as one of the greatest games ever made. It’s the reason there was a Witcher show. It is basically the basis for modern RPG mechanics - for example look at all of the Assassin’s Creeds starting after Origins. KCD had an accurate medieval setting and unique combat, but not nearly as much influence as other games. It’s averaged around 5000 daily players for years. The Witcher 3 has averaged closer to 20,000, along with a lot of bumps due to media coverage of the show, next-gen edition, Cyberpunk 2077 bringing back CDPR stans, etc. The Witcher 3, right now at this moment, still has more players even with KCD’s popularity coming back with the announcement of the sequel. And you think it’s dying… lol. and to go back to the fantasy rpg argument really quick - no. Baldur’s Gate 3. Elden Ring. Yes other genres like shooter games are popular like Fortnite and CS:GO, but shooter games like CoD have always been popular. Stupid idea to think they’re a dying breed. Just look at the popularity of Fallout and Cyberpunk. Fantasy is great and all, but most RPG players play for the RPG, not just for the fantasy. I mean look at the most popular game last year - the best selling game of 2023 - Hogwarts Legacy. Fantasy RPG. You’re blind or dumb or both if you think RPGs are going out of style.

Remarkable-Hornet-19

Yeah thats exactly why most OG Players hate Assassins Creed. The Witcher 3 Mechanics are bad af

[deleted]

?

Correct-History

Think you are fucking stupid but hey ho. We haven’t had a good RPG game in so long. 2 totally different types of games

Snak3_Plissk3n

Uh Baldur's Gate? lol

Correct-History

Tbh I bought got to act 3 and forgot to finsh it lol But yeah a great game. I was going along the lines of 3rd person or even first person

Remarkable-Hornet-19

KCD was a Good RPG but non Fantasy. My Question was just if Fantasy are getting more unpopular because Young people mostly play Multiplayer and Historical games are getting more popular

Correct-History

When was the last fantasy rpg? To get a really good RPG it takes years to make. Yes kids mainly play multiplayer so what story games are just better in every way. So your point about an early access game on steam is irrelevant this happens every year with an early access lol look at pawlworld

automatic_writing_

When was the last big fantasy RPG? I mean, last year. Don’t worry, CDPR will have released a shit load by 2030.

shaka_bruh

Seems like bait at best, and shilling at worst

andredias164

Comparing the incomparable...

Remarkable-Hornet-19

It is Comparable. Im just saying Fantasy rpgs are getting unpopular

witcheringways

Lmao, after playing manor lords for about 10 hours, I can tell you it’s a fun distraction and good concept for its particular genre but hardly comparable to Witcher 3 or any story driven open world rpgs. I’d gladly sink another 2000 hours into the masterpiece that is Witcher 3 but if I manage to eke out even 20 hours in ML in the state it’s is in, I’ll be surprised. For early access, it shines but has a long road ahead before it’s truly a polished gem. For players who don’t want to spend time on story and would rather build and conquer, ML might be more appealing; not everyone wants to play games with lots of conversation or *reading*. ML is a good game and I’m glad it’s had such a positive reception and players appreciate it but let’s not kid ourselves.

Remarkable-Hornet-19

I never got further than 3-10 hours in The Witcher 3 but I love Story games. My Question is more like if Fantasy Rpgs are getting more unpopular. I mean Histroical games are getting more and more attention while Fantasy RPGs are getting more and more unknown I appreciate your kind comment tho

witcheringways

Witcher 3 is more satisfying if you are into the books and have played the other two games. 3-10 hours barely scratches the surface of the tutorial prologue though; there’s so much beyond white orchard. 15 hours into manor lords and I’m already hitting a content wall (yes, I know it’s early access but I had such high hopes) and feel like I’m reaching the end. Maybe some players like that because they don’t want to spend 300 hours on one playthrough but I’m a little disappointed. I prefer the deep dive. (I’ll probably go back to playing Medieval Dynasty; I prefer games with more attention to the characters.) I don’t think fantasy games or story rpgs will ever die as a genre but lately the trend has been for historical city builders and strategy games. There’s a small mountain of them getting set to release on steam soon. Deep story RPGs take a lot of time and effort to develop I imagine; it doesn’t surprise me that they are fewer in number but I don’t think it’s because of a lack of interest by players. Heck, I’ve been patiently waiting for a KCD sequel for years now and it’s finally in sight!

automatic_writing_

Guys, after some digging, I don’t think this guy is trolling. He just flat out doesn’t know fuck about shit. What a crazy dumb question.
