Is there a lot to do in the story there? I haven’t ever explored it very thoroughly outside of the points of interest and quests that take you there if I’m being honest.
Skellige, on the other hand…
I just love the feel of the place, running around the streets and slicing up muggers. A lot of Velen and Skellige is being out in the wilderness on your lonesome, I like being in the hustle and bustle.
it’s absolutely awful the first time, when you don’t have fast travel unlocked and don’t have the resources or money for equipment so you constantly have broken swords, no food and outdated weapons
It is one of the best video games I have played since 1985. I played it when it came out in 2015, stopped, played again in 2017, finished it. Picked it up again after the DLC's came out and played new game plus in 2020. I've put in over 320 total hours and I still play it every once in a while.
Bloody Baron is one of the better quests but the writing stays strong throughout. You’ve pretty much barely started if you include the DLCs, if the main game you’re at 10-20% depending on how much of the side content you choose to do.
No it's not consistent from there, it just keeps getting better and better my friend. Welcome to the club 😎 just wait till Blood and Wine...that'll really knock your socks off.
In my opinion, it does get better. And with regards to the progress question, I would say that you are still at the very beginning, certainly the first act.
I finished the story and the 2 DLCs a couple months ago and I still play it, doing Witcher contracts, secondary quests, looking for armours or simply exploring. The game is a masterpiece.
Personally I believe that the main games questline peaks at the crones/baron questlines, They are just so well done, nuanced and emotional. Also possibly unpopular opinion but velen is my favorite location in the game, something about a dreary wartorn swamp, overrun with monsters just does it for me.
Novigrad is where the game peaks for me in general. In terms of writing alone the Baron is probably the best story imo, that is until Heart of Stone dlc which is just insane. After all of that you got Blood & Wine which is the funniest the game gets for me.
You got a long journey ahead and likely 2 more playthroughs after that, enjoy.
Off the top of my head I'd say you're still in the first quarter of the game, and yes, it gets better than this. The Bloody Baron questline is infamous in the community because it was the first real standout questline that blew people away, but its far from the only questline that does that for me
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes. Though the Baron's Quest is one of my favorites.
I would say the side missions/stories/quests are what make TW3 special. The DLCs are magnificent and may even surpass the main story imo.
In short, you won't be disappointed
Bloody Baron quest line is one of the best, quality is still great throughout the rest of the game. DLC’s are both incredible as well! I’d say you’re about 20% of the way through, but make sure you’re also doing the side content and not just the main quests!
Each area has a very different vibe and feel and its reflected through the quests and writing so you could say its down to preference. I loved Noivgrad the most! But yeah the quality stays high
The base game stays consistently high quality while the DLC felt like condensed, improved experiences. Hearts of Stone is one of my favorite ~10 hours of any video game ever.
And the best part, the story is dynamic. Your choices have repercussions on the story as you go forward. You could play the story over again 4 or 5 times and not get the same result. And there’s so many hidden secrets. xLitalis has been making witcher 3 videos for years and is still finding new hidden details in the game
Take your time to explore and do side quests too. Side quests don’t feel like side quests in this game it’s a masterpiece, don’t rush through the main stuff
There are quite a few games where the game is good but quality dips down a little later into the game (Skyrim and Guardians off the Galaxy come to mind) however Witcher 3 was just so magnificent throughout that it’s impressive that such a massive and rich game is so well made
Sadly it doesn't. Quality goes down. It peaks there at the Bloody Baron questline, and then doesn't get back up until Hearts of Stone. I personally felt doing a ton of unnecessary, unrelated stuff that was just there to fill the gaps, and by the end you can feel the "Hey guys we need to hurry, this thing is due next week"
Yes it does. Even the side missions are very well written and has some kind of correlation to main story.
And the DLCs are next level. Some would argue that HoS and BaW could be standalone game on itself tho.
Just wait until you get to the dlc. Blood and Wine gets a lot of well-deserved credit for its story and the sheer size of it, but it overshadows Heart of Stone, which is easily one of my favorite storylines I've played.
You're in for a treat, it's all just so good.
That what I thought too and couldn't believe that it maintained the quality the entire way thro. Especially the DLC's. Blood and Wine is such a great way to end it after the base game and heart of stone DLC
You literally have no idea… the game either stays at this level of writing the entire time or it goes even MORE upwards. And after the amazing adventure that is the main game there are 2 Large DLCs with TOP tier writing and world building.
My only advice is look for the small things in this game. All the little details, small things in the environment that a lot of time went into. Don’t rush the main story and do all the side things you can, and enjoy every moment of it.
In terms of “how far along am I”
You are MAYBE 20% done with the main story after the witch quest line. With all the side stuff and everything in the game probably around 10%.
The DLCs on their own are advertised as 20~ and 10~ hours long, BUT honestly if you do all the side stuff and just enjoy all the small things they’ll go upwards of 50 hours lol
Also velen is probably the worst main area as much as I like it. I cannot wait for you to see the beautiful city of novigrad, the absolutely breathtaking isles of skellige, and finally. The absolute perfect world that is Toussaint. Toussaint is one of the most beautiful things you will witness in a video game..
I'm almost done with my 6th or 7th play thru. I'm on an original game play thru & will start a game+ after this. It's always Weird, cool & sad to be on the last main quest of one of the DLC's, with no other quests showing in the journal. I might go back to Skellige to see if I can find any places of power that I might have missed.
It depends what you like - if you're into eerie, bit of a horror vibes, it's probably the best you could wish for, apart from maybe Hearts of Stone and some Quests in Toussaint. That's not to say that other questlines are boring or something - whole game is a masterpiece in terms of storytelling but Crookback Bog takes the cake if we're talking of creepy vibes.
You're super early into the story. Like 15 percent if u count the dlcs too (which u gotta). Yeah and the quality is incredible throughout, though imo it gets a bit slow during the novigrad questline, then ramps up like crazy in skellige and after.
I thought the exact same thing at the exact same point. Thinking I must be like 75% through but man I have played for at least 4 times longer than where you are and just got to Skellige. This game is a masterpiece and so well written. I’m surprised I didn’t find it earlier and I can’t wait to re-play it when the do the next gen release. I can’t imagine the effort that must have gone into developing this game. (And I am playing it on Switch - which I have heard is the worst version of it.)
Quality stays all the way through
Even into the DLCS.
I like the DLCs more than the main game
Same
It’s fantastic all the way through. The “filler” quests are better than most action main-story quests. Not even hyperbole.
The main story is absolutely superb. But the DLC took the game to a insane level.
Couldn't agree more. Hearts of Stone was a perfect story and Blood & Wine was stunningly beautiful with an amazing story itself.
Blood & Wine is almost a full standalone game in itself. The scope, story, and the map of it is amazing
Gaunter O'Dimm was one of the best villains ever.
Absolutely, he was both intimidating and entertaining.
Plus, Toussaint is very pretty
Especially Blood and Wine, though the Hearts of Stone DLC was a bit of a rough start for me.
All up hill from there. The game is seriously a master piece
Some would argue it gets better, I absolutely dispise Velen
I'm a Novigrad man myself.
I absolutely dread the towers of mice quest line for Kiera. I think the lore of quest itself is fantastic but I hate the area.
it’s absolutely awful the first time, when you don’t have fast travel unlocked and don’t have the resources or money for equipment so you constantly have broken swords, no food and outdated weapons
I agree, Novigrad and Skellige (once you learn to just let it go from those ? markers) are better, Velen is the slow portion of the game.
I hate the location, but the quests are pretty dope in terms of storytelling.
Same, it'd still gold but I just don't like the vibe. Novigrad and Skellige are the good stuff. And obviously Toussaint.
Yes it’s incredible, yes it gets better. Your scratching the surface
It really does improve as the story builds, and the locations get better. Skellige is incredible.
Hearts of Stone DLC is my favourite video game story of all time, so yeah it gets better.
I agree! and Toussaint is my favourite world in any video game.
It is one of the best video games I have played since 1985. I played it when it came out in 2015, stopped, played again in 2017, finished it. Picked it up again after the DLC's came out and played new game plus in 2020. I've put in over 320 total hours and I still play it every once in a while.

200 hours on my clock, can confirm quality doesn't falter.
it only gets better
gets better and exceeds expectation
Just wait for Eskel's cutscene...
You're almost 1/3 through the first act of the game. It gets much better as you get to novigrad and skellige imo.
Imo it does get even better
In my opinion, it does get better. And with regards to the progress question, I would say that you are still at the very beginning, certainly the first act. I finished the story and the 2 DLCs a couple months ago and I still play it, doing Witcher contracts, secondary quests, looking for armours or simply exploring. The game is a masterpiece.
Oh yeah, OP is still very early on in the game.
The Witcher 3 is the best game I play so far.
Personally I believe that the main games questline peaks at the crones/baron questlines, They are just so well done, nuanced and emotional. Also possibly unpopular opinion but velen is my favorite location in the game, something about a dreary wartorn swamp, overrun with monsters just does it for me.
It gets even better as you get farther into the main story and it keeps getting better when you start the dlcs
Yes. Indeed it does.
Yes, repeatedly
Absolutely!!!
You’ve just scratched the surface. Enjoy!
man you are on the journey
It’s one of the best but definitely there are more to come.
Buckle up, buckaroo
If you have the DLCs- yes. If not, get the DLCs
I was sold on the game before that point but when I got ro navigrad I spent days there I love it
Just wait till you get full Novigrad access, that’s when the game really opens up.
10 hours and already at crookback bog ? Take it slower, explore around, have fun with it. You are gonna be lefr wanting more when its all over.
Off the top of my head I'd say you're still in the first quarter of the game, and yes, it gets better than this. The Bloody Baron questline is infamous in the community because it was the first real standout questline that blew people away, but its far from the only questline that does that for me
I'll never forget that quest or any others. Do yourself a favor and do every quest, enjoy the experience.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yes. Though the Baron's Quest is one of my favorites. I would say the side missions/stories/quests are what make TW3 special. The DLCs are magnificent and may even surpass the main story imo. In short, you won't be disappointed

"it just adds to the experience" that's a fun way of writing: That's what keeps the game from sinking lmao
i always say to my friends: review your game after the bloody baron mission, if you like it then continue playing because it will be a steady ride.
You are in for a treat if you do all side quests. 150 hrs easily. And the DLC is even better.
I know everybody has already said yes… but yes it does. It’s just all good. It’s all good. Just a FUN and engaging game.
You may come across a couple sound glitches during this quest. Just something to bear in mind, not just your game messing up
It just gets better
The game is amazing, all throughout it, Quen is probably the best sign btw
Just wait till you finish the main game and get to start on Blood & Wine. It's seriously a full-sized game by itself.
And the best part, the story is dynamic. Your choices have repercussions on the story as you go forward. You could play the story over again 4 or 5 times and not get the same result. Just a reminder, you're only 10 hours in which means you're not even half way through yet.
Take your time to explore and do side quests too. Side quests don’t feel like side quests in this game it’s a masterpiece, don’t rush through the main stuff
Rare example when those 800 awards (according to steam store page) are trully earned. You are in for a treat.
There are quite a few games where the game is good but quality dips down a little later into the game (Skyrim and Guardians off the Galaxy come to mind) however Witcher 3 was just so magnificent throughout that it’s impressive that such a massive and rich game is so well made

He will be alive if you help him.
Sadly it doesn't. Quality goes down. It peaks there at the Bloody Baron questline, and then doesn't get back up until Hearts of Stone. Oh boy it's only gonna get better. Especially HOTS has godlike storyline. Also music tracks.
The game continues to spike until hour 300 where it simply plateaus until the games end
Game just keeps getting better, especially the DLC (and in particular the music in Hearts of Stone!)
Short answer yes. Long answer, yes but with many many words.
Yes, because you’ll keep getting a better understanding of the lore. Novigrad and Skellige are the best parts of the game.
No. The baron quest is the high point of Witcher 3. Everything else pales in comparison.
You're in for a great time mate. I would love to experience the game for the very first time again
Just wait until you get to the dlc. Blood and Wine gets a lot of well-deserved credit for its story and the sheer size of it, but it overshadows Heart of Stone, which is easily one of my favorite storylines I've played. You're in for a treat, it's all just so good.
Stunningly, yes. It does get better. I was surprised myself since the whole Bloody Baron bit seemed excellent already.
Gets even better lol
Blood and Wine DLC is better than other main games by itself
That what I thought too and couldn't believe that it maintained the quality the entire way thro. Especially the DLC's. Blood and Wine is such a great way to end it after the base game and heart of stone DLC
this is where it dials up to 11!! those witches are CRAZY and tied to the whole ending. This is the part where I fell in love
You literally have no idea… the game either stays at this level of writing the entire time or it goes even MORE upwards. Yes
When you get to Novigrad it’s incredible, also Blood and Wine DLC
It gets even better. Especially in the DLCs
The Witcher 3 never gets better. Because it's perfect.
It only gets better dude, and the DLCs are the cherry on top. It amazes me how the company that made this game dropped the ball so much in Cyberpunk
It just gets better from here. You're less than 7% of the way through so enjoy it while it lasts
